It was aimed to identify students’ pronunciation errors in reading aloud by finding out how far the students’ pronunciation errors in reading aloud and kind of words which are pronounced by the students through reading aloud. Qualitative method was used to find out the fact and the evidence of students’ pronunciation errors in reading aloud. The observation and the interview were conducted to explore the student’s experience and their problems in pronouncing English.The findings revealed that there were satisfactory results proved that the students made pronunciation errors in six part of speech; Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Adverbs, Prepositions and Conjunction. It was found that 26 pronunciation errors in noun (26.8%), 49 pronunciation errors in verb (50.5%), 6 pronunciation errors in adjective (6.2%), 12 pronunciation errors in adverb (12.4%), 3 pronunciation errors in preposition (3.1%) and 1 pronunciation error in conjunction (1.03%) from 7 students who had read the same narrative text. The reasons why the students made errors in pronouncing the words were the students have difficulties in pronouncing and spelling the words with affixes and prefixes in consonants, vowels, and diphtongs. They are: upon, aunt, lived, died,answered, knocked, cottage, dwarf, enough.

This research attempted to find out the translation techniques and grammatical errors in students’ Indonesian-English text translation. The objectives of this research were to describe the choice of translation techniques and grammatical errors of the students’ translation of a narrative text. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The translation techniques analysis was done by using Molina and Albir's (2002) classification of translation techniques while grammatical errors of the students’ translation were analyzed using the guide for correcting writing errors by Betty Azar (1941). The translation technique analysis was done by comparing the students’ translation work with the source text of a narrative entitled Lari Kepagian then grammatical errors analysis was done to find out their errors in the use of grammatical rules. The result of the study found that there were 3012 data of translation techniques and 429 grammatical errors. The data showed that the most used translation techniques were literal translation technique (30.1%) and modulation technique (22.6%) and the most grammatical errors made was capitalization (18.2%) and verb tense (16.6%). The most used translation technique that resulted in most grammatical errors was modulation technique (17%) in the translation done by 24 students. The researchers conducted research on Jane Austen literary works since she was a prominent female novelist with mostly discussed novels. The aim of this research was investigating how Jane Austen portrayed [woman] in the18th century through literary works. Six major novels were used as data. Hence qualitative method was employed. The novels were converted using AntConc. Then, the researchers identified the 50 highest collocations of [woman] based on three main categories in part of speech namely adjective, noun, and verb. The results reveal that Jane Austen portrays [woman] in the 18th century with positive and negative aspects; internal and external qualities that reflected through adjectives. Jane Austen often uses concrete and abstract nouns related to domestic property collocated with the word [woman]. Furthermore, the verbs that collocate with [woman] in Jane Austen’s literary works are productive verbs. The researchers find that the adjectives, nouns, and verbs that attach to [woman] in Jane Austen novels are related to the domestic sphere and their quality of being strong, logical, and intellectual.

One of the curriculum’s expectations at the fourth semester of english department in Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan (IPTS) is students are able to write narrative text. But in fact, students’ writing narrative text ability is still low, so researcher conduct a research in that field. The purposes of this research are to find out: 1) the extent of students’ writing narrative text ability, and 2) the significant effect of using character oriented local wisdom based learning model on students’ writing narrative text ability at the fourth semester students of english department in IPTS. The method of research is mix method by combining quantitative and qualitative method. The researcher collected the data by using interview and composition writing test. The sample was taken by using total sampling technique, it was 25 students. The data were then analyzed by using descriptive and inferential analysis, it was t-test formula by Arikunto. The findings of the research are the mean score of students’ writing ability before using character oriented local wisdom based learning model was 53.54 which categorized bad, then after using character oriented local wisdom based learning model was 82.50 which categorized good. The hypothesis testing showed that t-test was higher than t-table, it means that the hypothesis is accepted. It clearly seen that there is a significant effect of character oriented local wisdom based learning model on students’ writing narrative text ability at the fourth semester students of english department in IPTS.

This study aims to describe: (1) forms of basic word interference and derivatives of Acehnese language in Indonesian narrative essays, (2) forms of Acehnese sentence pattern interference in narrative essays, (3) their use as teaching language in learning to write narrative texts. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were students of class VII-A and students of class VII-Byang totaling 65 people. The results showed there were grammatical interference and their use as teaching materials in learning to write narrative texts. As for the morphological interference form in the base word there are 15 data and in the word derivative (affixation) there are 37 data consisting of: prefix (prefix) meu- 6 data, data peu- 2, data te-6, data si-5, and financial - 1 data. Inserts (infix) consist of -eun- 2 data, -eum- 3 data and -eul- 1 data. The suffix consists of –an 2 data, and -kon 2 data. The prefix and suffix consist of data 2 and data 2 data. While for the form of repetition (reduplication) there are 3 data. Form of interference at the level of syntax (sentence patterns) there are 9 data consisting of S-P 3 data, S-P-O 1 data, S-P-Pel 1 data, S-P-O-Pel 1 data, S-P-O-K 1 data, and S-P-K 2 data. For its use as teaching material in learning to write narrative text, the writer makes a hand out.

Background: Reading is one of the crucial components of language learning. However, to understand the whole text in an interesting method, the teacher should provide learning media for students to enjoy while in a serious situation when reading a text. The Audiobook is a tool to read stories or text accompanied by audio recording. Objective: To find out the implementation and response of students in reading narrative texts while listening to audiobooks in their learning activities Methods: Using a qualitative method, with research data collection using observation and interview methods Results: This shows that the application of Storynory audiobooks is easy to apply in the classroom, students can understand narrative texts when using audiobooks. Responses from students and teachers indicate that they enjoy and are satisfied with learning using audiobooks. Conclusion: The application of Storynory audiobooks in teaching narrative text reading shows good responses from students and teachers, they enjoy and easily understand the text, and Storynory audiobooks can help students with their pronunciation of words. did not know before, students enjoy the learning process by using audiobook media. They can repeat the pronunciations they hear in the audio, meaning that audiobooks can introduce and improve students' vocabulary or unfamiliar words in the text.

Moral decline in the nation's next generation is now increasingly worrying. This can be seen from the increasing number of juvenile delinquency that occurs. Examples are cases of drug abuse, free sex, bullying, and various criminal acts committed by minors. To prevent this from getting worse, it is necessary to take decisive action and inculcate character values ​​that must be carried out by various parties, one of which is the teacher. Literature is one of the media that can be used to instill character values ​​in students. This study will analyze the character values ​​contained in the narrative text in the Indonesian Student Book Revised 2017 Edition for class VII. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data in this study came from the narrative text in the Indonesian Language Student Book Revised 2017 Edition for Class VII. Data collection with documentation technique by reading and taking notes. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that there were six forms of social care character values ​​with indicators a) the ability to be willing to give help to others, b) the students' awareness to be willing to sacrifice, and c) the ability to share the suffering of others. There are five forms of character value appreciating achievement with indicators a) appreciating the achievements of others, b) studying diligently for high achievement, and c) being grateful for the achievements achieved by contributing to the benefit of the nation, state, and religion.

Abstract:In this research discussed about how the students the ability writing narrative text of the personal narrative tex in the story. This study aims to answer the problems: have the students mastered to write narrative text. What aspect writing of narrative text is still difficult for them to master to write. To what level is their ability on writing narrative text categorized. In this study, the writer use descriptive qualitative method and the way to get the data, the writer use the writing test. The populations of this study is the second grand students of SMK Negeri Nibaaf in the school year 2019/2020 consisting of class XII TRRH 21 students, but only 10 students were choosen as sample of this study. The result of finding show that the second ability in composing narrative writing with the instrument given is categorized good. It is SMK Negeri Nibaaf have abilities in composing a good narrative writing. It can be seen from the averange score of content is 4,1 vocabulary is 3,6 and language use is 3,8. After analized the data and got the result, the are some conclusion are all the students have mastered narrative writing. on the basic of the averange score good, vocabulary is difficult part of aspect of narrative writing. the students level of mastery is categorized good. It is based on the data that there are 4 of 10 on this level of mastery. Therefore, the second students of SMK Negeri Nibaaf have mastered in writing.Keywords: Ability, writing, narrative.

Bilinguals occasionally produce language intrusion errors (inadvertent translations of the intended word), especially when attempting to produce function word targets, and often when reading aloud mixed-language paragraphs. We investigate whether these errors are due to a failure of attention during speech planning, or failure of monitoring speech output by classifying errors based on whether and when they were corrected, and investigating eye movement behaviour surrounding them. Prior research on this topic has primarily tested alphabetic languages (e.g., Spanish–English bilinguals) in which part of speech is confounded with word length, which is related to word skipping (i.e., decreased attention). Therefore, we tested 29 Chinese–English bilinguals whose languages differ in orthography, visually cueing language membership, and for whom part of speech (in Chinese) is less confounded with word length. Despite the strong orthographic cue, Chinese–English bilinguals produced intrusion errors with similar effects as previously reported (e.g., especially with function word targets written in the dominant language). Gaze durations did differ by whether errors were made and corrected or not, but these patterns were similar for function and content words and therefore cannot explain part of speech effects. However, bilinguals regressed to words produced as errors more often than to correctly produced words, but regressions facilitated correction of errors only for content, not for function words. These data suggest that the vulnerability of function words to language intrusion errors primarily reflects automatic retrieval and failures of speech monitoring mechanisms from stopping function versus content word errors after they are planned for production.

<p>ABSTRAK <br />Mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia pada Kurikulum 2013 bertujuan agar siswa mampu mendengarkan, membaca,<br />memirsa, berbicara, dan menulis. Kompetensi dasar dikembangkan berdasarkan tiga hal yang saling berhubungan. <br />Ketiga hal tersebut adalah bahasa, sastra, dan literasi. Makalah ini bertujuan mengapresiasi karya sastra Indonesia<br />berupa teks folklor Ande-Ande Lumut dengan menggunakan metode sosiodrama. Manfaat menggunakan metode<br />sosiodrama, diantaranya: (1) mempertinggi perhatian siswa melalui adegan-adegan; (2) membuat siswa mengerti<br />persoalan sosial psikologis dan ikut merasakan perasaan dan pikiran orang lain; dan (3) membuat siswa dapat<br />menempatkan diri pada tempat orang lain dan memperdalam pengertian mereka tentang orang lain. Penulisan<br />makalah ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik kepustakaan. Hasil dari penulisan makalah ini<br />diharapkan dapat menjadi salah satu rujukan bagi para guru atau praktisi pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia, utamanya<br />pembelajaran teks folklor Indonesia dalam menghayati nilai-nilai budaya yang terkandung di dalamnya. <br />Kata Kunci: Nilai Budaya, Folklor, Sosiodrama <br /> <br />ABSTRACT <br />In general, the 2013 Indonesian Language curriculum aims to enable students to listen, read, view, speak and write.<br />Basic competencies are developed based on three things that are interconnected and mutually supportive in<br />developing students' knowledge, understanding, and having the competence to listen, read, view, speak, and write.<br />These three things are language, literature and literacy.The purpose of this paper is to appreciate Indonesian<br />folklore Ande-Ande Lumut by using the sociodrama method. Some important benefits using this method are (1)<br />heightening students' attention through scenes, which does not always occur in the lecture or discussion method, (2)<br />making students understand psychological social problems and participate to feel the feelings and thoughts of<br />others, and (3) making students put themselves in other people's places and deepen their understanding of others.<br />The writing of this paper uses a descriptive-qualitative method with library study. The results of writing this paper<br />are expected to become one of the references for teachers or practitioners in the field of Indonesian language<br />education, especially learning folklore texts in living the cultural values contained in them. <br />Key words: Cultural Values, Folklore, Sociodrama</p><p> </p>

Reading skill plays an important role in English learning process, especially when student have to deal with TOEFL Exam which includes reading and writing skill. The writer observed that the process of comprehending a reading text was still a serious problem for the students. The writer applied a qualitative method in this research with descriptive approach. The subject of the study was the first semester students class E of Universitas Prima Indonesia Medan. The instrument of data collecting was multiple choice test. The mean score of the students’ in comprehending narrative text was 77. It shown that their comprehension narrative text was average to good. There was 12 students (48%) was classified as Excellent, 12 students (48%) was classified as Good and there was 1 students (4%) was classified as Average whereas no student (0%) was  classified as poor to comprehending narrative text. Therefore, the writer hopes that the other English lecturer should always try to create an interesting text and media for their teaching.
