Self-forgiveness – A neglected area within the pastorate: The scientific study of the theme of forgiveness in general, has only begun to gain momentum during the 1970s – it is thus a relatively new concept within the helping professions. Since the sub-discipline of positive psychology has also gained momentum over the past number of years, it has largely contributed to a more realistic approach to the concept of forgiveness. However, within this broad context of the development of research on the theme of forgiveness, the specific aspect of self-forgiveness did not come to fruition from the very onset and was even occasionally described as the ’stepchild’ of research on forgiveness. In this article, we focus on four of the most prominent pastoral-psychological models of self-forgiveness. Aspects that are discussed in this regard are some important definitions, the relationship between interpersonal and intrapersonal forgiveness, characteristics indicating a lack of forgiveness, factors that necessitate self-forgiveness and barriers to self-forgiveness. The basic point of departure in this article is that of a literature study regarding the theme of self-forgiveness. Particular attention is given to the approaches within the abovementioned four models, while data from other relevant sources are also incorporated. Finally, from the various models as well as supplementary literature, several strategic moments regarding the facilitation of self-forgiveness are identified. The importance and topicality of the theme of self-forgiveness, which has been ignored for quite a long period, becomes very evident from this research – for the helping professions and for the pastorate specifically.

This article describes compassion as perceived within the relationship between nurses and older persons with a chronic disease. The aim of the study is to understand the benefit of compassion for nursing practice within the context of long-term care. The design of the study involves a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with nurses and patients in three different care-settings. Results show the nature of compassion in seven dimensions: attentiveness, listening, confronting, involvement, helping, presence and understanding. Analysis of the data also shows in what way opinions of participants relate to issues raised in a previous literature study, for example the difference between pity and compassion. The conclusion states that compassion is a valuable process which motivates patients as well as nurses to cooperate in achieving relevant outcomes of care. The discussion involves some methodological issues. For one thing, further confirmation of the dimensions found is recommended.

ABSTRACTDemocracy in the perspective of Islamic education so far has no concrete definition, the difference between western democracy and islamic democracy, as well as the implementation of democracy that is not in accordance with Islamic teachings, then the problem that will arise is how democracy according to Islamic teachings? How is democracy in Islamic government? And to what extent is the relationship between democracy and Islamic religious education? In the age before Islam entered the people of ethnic groups and nationalities and the existing ties were blood ties. But after the teachings of Islam enter the bonds that apply are religious ties. This is in accordance with the word of Allah Surah Al-Hujrat: 13, Sura Al-Imron: 26 and 159 and Sura As-Shura: 38.Democracy according to Islam is often synonymous with the word musyawarah (shura), largely functioning as a form of government. Even though the reality is actually wider, it functions to all aspects of Islamic life. The democratic system in determining leadership and procedures for appointing leaders according to the Islamic concept as well as the thoughts of scholars on the concept of democracy shows that there are significant differences between western democracy and Islamic democracy, among the differences are western democracy, the highest power belongs only to the people, whereas in Islamic democracy The highest power is in the hands of God (Allah) and the Shari'ah of the past and the people are only as kholifah (representatives) of Allah to manage and manage the State while still relying on the Al-Quran and Sunnah. also Islamic lawThe relationship between democracy and Islamic religious education is very close because in education there is one of the principles of education, namely the understanding of democracy and Islam always puts forward the principle of deliberation in deciding everything. Keywords: Islamic and western democracy, Islamic Government System and Islamic Religious Education

This study seeks to analyze the relationship between ulama and umara' and their implications for Islamic da'wah. The research was conducted by exploring historical and empirical sources related to the relationship between the ulama and umara' past and present which is reflected in the various political thoughts and policies of the ulama and umara'. The data was collected through observation and literature study while the data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results of the study show that historically the relationship between ulama and umara' occurred dynamically. During the past Islamic empires, the relationship between ulama and umara' was collaborative and even integrative. While in later times the relationship between ulama and umara' tended to be secularistic-pragmatic. The implication of this integrative relationship is that Islamic da'wah can develop rapidly so that Islam becomes the religion of the majority of the Indonesian people. Meanwhile, pragmatic secularistic relations made da'wah stagnant due to the weak involvement of umara' in the process of IslamizationPenelitian ini berupaya untuk menganalisis relasi ulama dan umara’ dan implikasiinya bagi dakwah Islam.

This paper investigates the relationship between exports and economic growth in Pakistan by utilizing the analytical framework put forward by Feder (1983). The hypothesis that marginal factor productivities are not equal in export and non-export sectors of the Pakistan economy is tested by using time series from 1973 to 2005. The estimation results indicate that marginal factor productivities are significantly higher in the export sector. Moreover, the difference seems to derive, in part, from inter-sectoral positive externalities generated by the export sector. In broad terms, therefore, the results of this study are supportive of the export oriented, outward-looking approach to trade relations adopted by policymakers over the past decade.

Historical correctness and historical fiction: a responseIn this article the relationship between history and fiction is examined in response to the historian, Fransjohan Pretorius’s criticism of recent Afrikaans fiction about the Anglo-Boer War in Tydskrif vir Letterkunde 52.2 (2015). The intricate relationship between history and fiction is examined by pointing, on the one hand to the problematic of the relationship between history and the past and on the one hand, to the difference between fiction and history. The function of aesthetic illusion, verisimilitude and conceptions of reference is investigated theoretically before turning to the specific novels that Pretorius discusses. The article shows that historical fiction cannot be restricted to novelized versions of accepted history, but that historical fiction also reminds the reader that the past is always culturally mediated and that the primary aim of novels is not to represent the past but to examine aspects of human existence. A comparison between fiction and history can therefore not be used as a norm to assess novels.

This article examines the relationship of the Church to politics in post-secularism popularized by Jurgen Habermas. The research method used in this research is literature study. This research finds that, Post-secularism offered by Habermas provides space for the Church to translate the wealth contained in religion into a public message. In the view of post-secularism the Church has an important role to fill in the empty spaces that cannot be achieved by rationality. Habermas's thoughts on post-secularism also serve as a bridge to harmonize faith and rationality, as well as to explain dual citizenship as an unrelated Christian political view.
