This study examines the impact of a program of functional exercise with elastic resistance band (centered on joint multi-resistance elastic band; experimental group, EG) versus an entertainment content (recreational exercise program compared to a recreational exercise program; control group, CG). It also examines the physical fitness in older active people who are over 60 years. Fifty-four volunteers who are residents of the community have an age range (70.57 ± 5.46 years). Before and after the intervention, physical fitness was determined through the Senior Fitness Test (strength, flexibility, aerobic endurance, and agility-dynamic balance) and the Manual Dynamometry Test. In the comparison INTER groups, the EG in flexibility improves p < 0.05 and in dynamic agility-balance p < 0.01. INTRA groups, EG and CG in leg and arm strength, presented improvements p < 0.001 and in manual isometry p < 0.05. Based on the flexibility of legs and arms, the EG presents improvements p < 0.05. Also, the CG only in right arm flexibility presents improvement p < 0.05. In agility-dynamic equilibrium, only the EG presents improvement p < 0.01. In expected aerobic performance, only the CG presented improvement p < 0.05. Strength improvement and increased manual grip maintain functional autonomy in both groups. Coupled with the improved agility-dynamic balance and flexibility of the EG, it gives the adult more independence which reduces the risk of falls in this population. In our findings, the EG significantly improved all fitness variables to a greater extent than CG. We recommend an increase in the intensity and frequency of physical activity programs and the inclusion of functional exercises with elastic bands aimed at this population.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of two exercise types (Gyrokinesis exercise and Elastic band exercise) in the 8 week exercise training on the physical fitness of elderly women.METHODS The subjects of this study were 57 elderly women between 65 and 80 years old, who had no abnormality in the Physical Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q test) and were able to do physical activity on the orthopedic standpoints. The subjects were divided into three groups: Gyrokinesis Exercise Group (GKEG: n=19), Elastic Band Exercise Group (EBEG: n=20), and Control Group (CG: n=18). The subjects performed a Gyrokinesis Exercise in GKEG and an Elastic Band Exercise in EBEG for 50 minutes a day (10 minutes for warm-up, 30 minutes for main exercise, 10 minutes for cool-down), and 3 times a week for a total of 8 weeks. The subjects of CG did not participate in any particular exercise program but only everyday life. The dependent variables were Physical Fitness: Upper Muscular Endurance, 30-Second Arm Curl. Lower Flexibility, Dynamic Balance, Endurance. one-way ANOVA with repeated measurements was used to test the hypothesis in this study. A post hoc was conducted only when there was an interaction effect between groups and measurements. The difference of the post-test between groups were analyzed through Scheffe method after one-way ANOVA. The statistical significance level of this study was α=.05.RESULTS Gyrokinesis and Elastic Band Exercises were both effective on the physical fitness of elderly women: Upper Muscular Endurance, 30-Second Arm Curl, Lower Flexibility, Dynamic Balance, and Endurance. However, there were no differences in exercise effects after 8 week exercise training between the Gyrokinesis Exercise Group and the Elastic Band Exercise Group.CONCLUSIONS It is concluded that Gyrokinesis and Elastic Band exercise programs should be encouraged to improve physical fitness of elderly women and we need a follow-up study with longer term exercise training programs to find the differences in exercise effects between Gyrokinesis Exercise and Elastic Band Exercise.

Seniors are a constantly growing group of people in many societies. It is necessary to develop physiotherapeutic programs to improve their mobility. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of the physiotherapeutic program conducted unstable ground on selected indicators of motor functions of elderly women. Sixty women (60–80 years) participated in the research. Group A (N = 20) underwent a 12-week physiotherapeutic program on stable ground, group B (N = 20) followed an exercise program on unstable ground, and group C (N = 20) (control group) had no therapeutic intervention. The effects of the therapy were assessed by using a FreeMed platform (foot load analysis) and a Biosway balance system. The results were compared using ANOVA (the one-way analysis), the Kruskal–Wallis test and also the post hoc tests (Tukey’s test and the multiple comparison test). In group A, a statistically significant change was observed in the static test and balance assessment, in group B this was observed in the static and dynamic foot tests and balance assessment, in group C, no statistical significance was achieved. The authors’ physiotherapeutic program had a statistically significant effect on changes in the balance and selected indicators of the motor functions of the examined people. Comparing the results before and after the therapy more improvement changes were noted in women training on an unstable ground compared to women training on a stable ground.

Bu çalışma 8-10 yaş arası erkek çocuklarda yüzme egzersiz ve bosu çalışmalarının dinamik dengeye etkisini incelemek amacıyla yapıldı. Yaşları ortalaması 8,9333±,78492 yıl olan 30 katılımcı veli ve antrenörlerinden gönüllü katılımları ile ilgili aydınlanmış̧ onamları alınarak çalışmaya dahil edildi. Bunların 20' si egzersiz grubu diğer 10'u da kontrol grubudur. Egzersiz grubunun en az 1 yıl yüzme eğitimi almış olmalarına ve haftada 3 gün düzenli olarak yüzme antrenmanı yapıyor olmalarına dikkat edildi. Egzersiz grubu rastgele yöntemle 2 gruba ayrıldı. Birinci gruba yüzme ve bosu çalışmaları, ikinci gruba ise sadece yüzme egzersizleri yaptırıldı. Bu çalışma 10 hafta süreyle uygulandı. Katılımcıların antropometrik ölçümler ile dinamik denge ölçümleri planlanan antrenman programı öncesi ve sonrası olmak üzere iki defa alındı. Çalışma Van Olimpik yüzme havuzunda uygulandı. Verilerin analizinde SPSS 21 paket programı kullanıldı.  Analizler sonucunda yüzme eğitimi alan grubun A (Anterior), PM (Posteromedial) ve PL (Posterolateral) ön test - son test ölçüm  değerleri arasında anlamlı (p<0,01) fark olduğu saptandı. Yine yüzme ve bosu eğitimi alan grubun PM ve PL ön test - son test ölçüm  değerleri arasında anlamlı (p<0,01) fark olduğu belirlendi. Seçilmiş değişkenlerin ön test- son test ölçüm değerleri arasındaki farkların gruplar arasında anlamlı (p<0,05)  bir farklılığın olmadığı görüldü.   ​Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.   Özet This study was carried out to investigate the effect of swimming exercise and bosu studies on dynamic equilibrium in 8-10 years old boys. They were included in the study by taking their enlightened consent about their voluntary participation from 30 participants parents and coaches with an average age of 8,9333 ±, 78492 years. 20 of them were exercise group and 10 of them were control group. The exercise group had at least 1 year of swimming training and swimming training 3 days a week was paid attention to be doing regularly. The exercise group was randomly divided into two groups. The first group had swimming and bosu exercises and the second group had only swimming exercises. This study was performed for 10 weeks. The participants' anthropometric measurements and dynamic balance measurements were taken twice before and after the planned training program. The work was carried out at the Olympic swimming pool in Van. SPSS 21 package program was used to analyze the data. As a result of the analyzes, it was found that there was a significant difference (p<0.01) between the A (Anterior), PM (Poateromedial) and PL (Poaterolateral) pre-test and post-test measurements of the swimming group. It was determined that there was a significant difference (p <0.01) between the PM and PL pretest - posttest measurements of the group receiving swimming and bosu training. There was no significant difference (p <0.05) between the pre-test and post-test values ​​of the selected variables.

The purpose of this research is to improve physical fitness which is one of the goals of physical education in Indonesia while also improving the nutritional status of Surabaya vocational high school students. This research uses the treatment of physical activity 3 times a week in 2 months as a task in physical education to improve physical fitness and nutrional status on the sample of this research. Research design uses quasi experimental design with metode non-randomized control group pretest-posttest design. Research data was obtained as follows: data processing result on experiment group show that physical activity to VO2max got significant score based calculating using SPSS of 0,00 and physical activity to nutrional status got sig. of 0,60. Whereas in the control group, physical actifity got sig. of 0.20 to VO2max and sig. to 0.11 on nutrional status. Based on the above analysis it can be concluded that physical activity has a significant effect on physical fitness but physical activity has no significant effect on nutrional status to Surabaya vocational high school students.

AbstractThis study aimed to investigate the impact of a 16-week dance-based aerobic exercise program on lymphocyte function in healthy and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) women. We enrolled 23 women: 11 with T2DM and 12 non-diabetic controls. Initially, we performed anthropometry and body composition measurements, afterwards, plasma levels of C-reactive protein, lipids, and glucose were determined. We used flow cytometry to measure the CD25 and CD28 expression in circulating lymphocytes, T-regulatory (Treg) cell percentage, lymphocyte proliferation, and cytokines released by cultured lymphocytes. The T2DM group had a lower proportion of CD28+ cells and a higher percentage of Treg lymphocytes and proliferative capacity at the baseline compared with the control group. After 16 weeks of the program, differences in lymphocytes between the T2DM and the control groups disappeared. The dance program promoted IL-10 increase in both groups. We found decreased IL-4, IL-2, and IL-6 secretion in lymphocytes from the control group and increased IL-17 secretion and IL-10/IL-17 ratio in the T2DM group after the program. The program promoted marked changes in lymphocytes in diabetic women, leading to a balance between the different profiles.

e21658 Background: Weight gain, deterioration of physical fitness, and cancer-related fatigue often occur in the breast cancer patients mainly due to endocrine therapy. A number of previous studies have reported that obesity increases the risk of breast cancer recurrence and death, while exercise habituation improves physical fitness and fatigue among breast cancer patients. However, almost all studies have been conducted in the Western community and there are few studies focused on Asian women who may have lower BMI compared with the Western ones. Therefore, we investigated whether a combined diet plus exercise program affects weight loss, physical fitness and fatigue indices among Japanese breast cancer patients undergoing endocrine therapies. Methods: Thirty-two Japanese women with breast cancer undergoing endocrine therapy (age; 50±6 years, body weight; 57±10 kg) were voluntarily assigned to either intervention group (n = 21) or control group (n = 11). The intervention group completed a 12-week combined diet plus exercise program, consisting of weekly diet instruction classes aimed at maintaining a nutritionally well-balanced 1,200 kcal/d diet and a weekly 90-min exercise session. Anthropometric indices, physical fitness, blood sample and cancer-related fatigue were measured at baseline and after the 12-week program. Results: All of the 21 women completed the 12-week program. Mean weight loss was 8.7% of the initial weight in the intervention group and 0.1% in the control group ( P < . 001). Significant improvements were observed in cardiorespiratory fitness ( P < .01), flexibility ( P < .01) and agility ( P < .01) in the intervention group. Cancer related-fatigue scores decreased by 7.9 points (39%) among the intervention group ( P < .001), while it remained essentially unchanged among the control group. No adverse events were reported in the intervention group. Conclusions: A combined diet plus exercise program may contribute to a decrease in body weight and improvement in physical fitness and cancer-related fatigue. Further study is needed to help reduce side effects due to endocrine therapy and enhance quality of life among Asian breast cancer patients. Clinical trial information: UMIN000025890.

Objective: The major objective of this study was to investigate the influence of six months dance intervention program on the level of functional fitness and postural stability in the elderly.Methods: The exercise program was carried out three times a week and included 60 dance exercise sessions. 60 elderly participated in the study (67.5±5.69 years), 30 in a dance intervention group (weight: 70.32±13.59kg; BMI 25.95±3.79 kg/m2), 30 in a control group (weight: 76. 93±15.45kg; BMI 27.06±3.88 kg/m2). Three subtests were used to determine the level of functional fitness from the Senior fitness test battery; the static posturography method assessed the level of balance abilities in one position.Results: The most meaningful results to emerge from the data are that the intervention dance program led to a post-exercise increase in the level of agility, dynamic balance and reaction speed measured by 8 Foot up Go test in the dance group. The results indicate a statistically significant difference value in the dance group compared to the control group between post-test results (p=0.01). Values of the other monitored parameters were not statistically significant. The Cohen coefficient d reflects the low or medium value of the intervention program's effectiveness.Conclusions: Even if the dance intervention program did not have a more significant effect on the level of the tested parameters, we must state that only a slight improvement or a steady level of functional fitness and postural stability is a positive result in this age. Keywords: aging, dance, Senior fitness test, motor abilities, balance ability

The aim of this study was to analyze the importance of some physical fitness and motor skills for children between 11-13 years at elementary school. A total of 114 primary school children participated as volunteers with a means age of 10.80 ± 0,40 for 5th grade and 12.83 ± 0,38 for 7th grade.In this study, some motor tests were used to detect differences between pre-adolescence and adolescence on male and female. These tests were respectively: for dynamic balance “The Star excursion balance test”, for the agility “T-test”, “V sit and reach” for flexibility test and for explosive strength a “20 m run (0.1s)”. Besides, physical fitness features were taken as height, weight, body mass index (BMI) and waist-hip ratio (WHR).The results of the flexibility showed that the female children had better performances in the 5th grade than those in the 7th grade children (p<0,005). In addition, it was determined that the dynamic balance performance values of the 7th grade female and male children were better than the 5th grade(p<0,005). There were significant differences in agility and explosive strength between the 7th grade female and male children(p<0,005). It was observed that there was an increase in agility, speed and dynamic equilibrium performance data especially from the age of 11 in parallel with growth and development. Especially from this period, it was thought that it was possible to develop motor skills and performance parameters with some sports applications and training.

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of a sports games experimental program on improving specific motor abilities in adolescents with mental impairment. The study was conducted on a sample of 60 adolescents diagnosed with mild mental impairment, divided into two groups (experimental group EG, and control group CG) with an equal number of participants. The special program of sports games lasted for 12 weeks, with a weekly frequency of four times and a duration of 30 minutes per training. The participants of both groups were tested with the same variables within the specific motor skills for the sport of football and basketball. After a twelve-week experimental program of sports games, there were statistically significant improvements in the EG in the variables: SMFS, SMDR, SMCP with a statistical significance of r=0.000. The results of the ANOVA and MANOVA analyses indicated that after the application of the specific sports games program there was a statistically significant difference in the benefits for the EG compared to the CG, in the parameters of specific motor abilities with a statistical significance r=0.000 and the size of the impact. Based on these research results, it can be concluded that a specific exercise program conducted within twelve-week training of specifically dosed sports activities has significantly contributed the development of specific motor skills for football and basketball.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis is characterised clinically by usage-related pain and/or functional limitation. OA that is associated with physical dysfunction and decline in health-related quality of life caused the main disability worldwide and is expected to increase due to aging and obesity rates and further load on the population and health system. The strengthening exercises that normally used is knee flexion and extensions, isometric quadriceps exercise, isometric hamstring exercise, and sit to stand to improve the balance. Objectives: is to find out the impact of Strengthening exercise on Balance in patients with knee Osteoarthritis Study Design: Quasi experimental study Methods: Fifty-six (n=56) of knee OA patients were involved in this study by judgemental sampling design. Researcher will first demonstrate and explain the Y-balance tools testing procedure based on Plisky and colleagues study. Participants are given to practice six trials before the formal testing, stated that SEBT have a significant learning effect and found that the reaching distances reached the longest distance after six trials and then will be constant. Results: Independent t-test shows significant difference in only anterior direction. In the experimental group the mean value is 69.83 with a SD of 11.62 while in the control group the mean value is 63.51 with a SD of 11.36; p-value of .045 and t-value of 2.056. In postero-lateral directions result shows there is no significant difference, experimental group the mean value is 91.10 with a SD of 9.74 while in control group mean value is 90.88 with SD value of 12.68; p-value of .947 and t-value of .067. Result of postero-medial shows no significant difference too, in experimental group the mean value of 95.16 with SD of 10.92 while in control group the mean value is 93.40 with SD of 8.20; p=value of .501 and t-value of .678. Conclusion: This study has proven strengthening exercise using YBT improved only anterior direction of YBT but no significant difference in postero-lateral and postero-medial direction.
