Introduction: Organic solvents are chemicals that are often used by the printing industry and contain Benzene, Toluene, and Xylene which are toxic to humans. Chemicals that contain organic solvents are ink, glue, and others. Workers who are regularly exposed to organic solvents can have health complaints. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between workers’ characteristics and health complaints due to exposure to organic solvents in the Sidoarjo offset printing. Methods: This research was an observational study with cross sectional design. Population in this research was 30 workers. The sampling technique used simple random sampling and from the calculation results were obtained 24 respondents. This study had an independent variable, which was workers’ characteristics consisting of age, smoking habits, and work tenure. The dependent variable was health complaints of printing workers. Data collection used questionnaires and interviews. The research data were analyzed using fisher’s exact test to show the correlation between workers’ characteristics and health complaints. Results: The result of the analysis test found that there was no correlation between age (p=0.386) and smoking habits (p=0.376) with health complaints of workers. Moreover, the analysis test showed that work tenure variable had a correlation with health complaints of workers (p=0.041). Conclusion: A factor related to health complaints of workers was work tenure. Keywords: health complaints, organic solvents, worker characteristics

This research used cross sectional design. The population was 194 respondents and the sample was 54 respondents which are taken by using simple random sampling technique. Independent variable in this research was demographic status that was measured by questionnaire and nutritional status that was measured based on Body Mass Index (BMI). Meanwhile, dependent variable in this research was the occurrence of anemia that was measured by using spectrophotometry. Data analysis used Fisher's Exact test and Two-Sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (α = 0,05). Result of Fisher's Exact test was obtained that p value = 1,000 > 0,05, which meant that there was no significant correlation between demographic status and the occurrence of anemia. Meanwhile, result of Two-Sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was obtained that p value = 0,017 < 0,05, which meant that there was a significant correlation between nutritional status and the occurrence of anemia.

Dehydration is a condition when body loses or lacks liquid or water. Dehydration can occur due to an internal factor such as person’s characteristics, and external factors such as the physical condition of environment, and environmental sanitation. An example of a person having the risk of dehydration is smoked fish workers because they are exposed to heat form burning dry coconut shells. The purpose of this study was to discover the correlation between worker characteristics, the physical condition of environment as well as environmental sanitation, and dehydration level. This study used cross sectional design with 19 respondents, and samples were taken using simple random sampling technique. The study took place at RW 02 Kelurahan Kenjeran, Kecamatan Bulak, Surabaya starting from February 2018 until finished. Data were analyzed using cross tabulation, and statistic tests which were chi square and Kolmogorov smirnov with 95% confidence level. Data were collected by measurement, interview, observation, and examination. The results showed that there was correlation between the physical condition of environment which included temperature (p=0,003<0,05) and humidity (p=0,001<0,05). The conclusion of this study was that the physical condition of environment including temperature and humidity had an important role to the dehydration level of the smoked fish workers.

Improper lighting that is not according the standards may result in health problems, one of which is eyestrain, a visual disturbance. Eyestrain is one result of improper lighting that is not according to standards. In addition, the characteristics of workers also play a role in the occurrence of eyestrain. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the lighting in a workplace and the characteristics of workers with complaints of eyestrain in embroidery tailors at CV "X" Bangil, Pasuruan. This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional study design. The research population was all embroidery tailors in CV "X" Bangil, Pasuruan, as many as 122 workers. The research sample was taken using the Simple Random Sampling method, and 55 workers were obtained. The data were collected by measuring the workplace lighting using a luxmeter measuring instrument. The research instrument used were observation sheets and questionnaires. The data analysis was done by using the Fisher's Exact Test. The results of lighting measurements indicate that the intensity of illumination both general and local is still below the Standard Value. The poor quality of lighting is indicated by most workers who experienced glare, shadow disturbances, and improper workplace decorations. The results of the statistical test show that the p value of all variables > α (0.05). There is a significant relationship between the lighting in a workplace and the characteristics of workers with eyestrain. CV "X" needs to schedule a maintenance and cleaning for lights, armatures, wall windows, floors and work desks. In addition, it is necessary to increase the intensity of lighting in the workplace.   Keywords: lighting, worker characteristics, eyestrain

Cervical cancer is a malignant disease attacked the female reproductive organ which is often found in women with high parity. The data obtained from Yayasan Wisnuwardhana Surabaya (Cancer Foundation) in 2012 showed that among 9630 women having Pap Smear, 88 (0.9%) were detected with cervical cancer. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out the correlation between parity and incidence of cervical cancer in the above mentioned cancer foundation. The design of study was analytic-observational done by applying cross sectional approach. The population involved 400 women having Pap Smear in the stated cancer foundation in March 2014. 200 respondents were chosen as the samples by using probability sampling, in which simple random sampling technique was used in this study. The instrument for collecting the data was the medical record. The data were then analyzed by using Chi-Square statistic test with the significance level α = 0.05.   The result of study showed that none of the nullipara and primipara (0%) suffered from cervical cancer, whereas few of the multipara (5.9%) and half of the grandemultipara (50%) suffered from cervical cancer. Moreover, the result of Chi-Square was not qualified so that Fischer’s Exact test was used and showed that p = 0.000 < α = 0.05 so that H0 was rejected illustrating that there was a correlation between parity and incidence of cervical cancer in the above mentioned cancer foundation. In conclusion, the higher parity, the more risk for cervical cancer. The facility of health services are expected to give more health counseling to the women with high risk of having cervical cancer to have Pap Smear.

The objective of this research was to understand the contributing factors that can affect the physical fitness of the employees that were actively involved in physical exercises in PT Petrokimia Gresik. Method: This research was non-reactive or unobtrusive with cross-sectional research design and conducted in December of 2019. The population was employees that have previously done medical check-up after physical exercise for more than 24 activities with a minimum of 126 km within 3 months amounted to 90 and had 55 samples gathered by using the simple random sampling technique. The independent variables were age, work period, and the frequency of exercise. The dependent variable was the physical fitness calculated by ergocycle during the medical check-up. The data analysis was done descriptively and the correlation test was done by the Chi-Square and Fisher’s Exact Test. Result: In this research, some employees were older than 30 years old (54.5%), male (98.2%), have working period longer than 3 years (65.6%), have normal-day working system (76.4%), performing exercises for at least 3x per week (56.4%), and had a good physical fitness (78.2%). Conclusion: age and working period are the factors related to the physical health of the employees, meanwhile exercising has no connection with the physical health of the employees if it is done without intensity and duration monitoring. Keywords: exercise, individual characteristics, physical fitness
