Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a micro social work intervention technique that can reduce trauma experience by victims of sexual violence, including children. The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze the application of CBT interventions in dealing with the trauma as experienced by a 10-year-old girl, a victim of sexual violence, who gets help from the Child Protection Agency (LPA) in Bandung. This study used experimental approach with Single Subject Design (SSD) with A-B measurement technique to show the impact of the interventions result. Trauma indications that are intervened with the CBT model are the fear of being alone, nightmare, and sadness when hearing the words related to rape or sexual violence. CBT interventions carried out in this study are performed by providing psychoeducation, relaxation, helping the victim to express feelings, teaching coping skills, and in vivo exposure. The results of CBT interventions indicated changes in the reduction in frequency of trauma indications in children who are victims of sexual violence. This proves that CBT interventions can be performed to reduce the trauma experienced by the 10-year-old victim of sexual violence. The recommendation that can be suggested based on the results of this study are; CBT should be carried out with a more complete session and give reinforcement to parents about mentoring traumatic child victims of sexual violence

IntroductionA recent cohort study in the Netherlands and Belgium showed that 38% of children experienced psychological violence, 11% physical violence, and 14% sexual violence in sport (Vertommen et al., 2016). This study aims to explore the long-term consequences on anxiety, depression and somatic complaints in adults who experienced psychological, physical or sexual violence in the specific context of organized youth sport.MethodsA web survey in a representative sample of adults, prescreened on having participated in organized sport before the age of 18 (n = 4043) was conducted. In this sample, depression, anxiety and somatic problems were assessed using the brief symptom inventory. A generalized linear model was used to quantify the impact of experiencing severe interpersonal violence in sport on psychopathology.ResultsAll three types of severe interpersonal violence (psychological, physical and sexual) were significantly associated with the total score and the subscales of the brief symptom inventory. The effect remains significant after controlling for socio-demographics, as well as disability, sexual orientation, adverse childhood experiences outside sport, recent trauma and family history of psychological problems.ConclusionsExperiencing interpersonal violence against in youth sport is associated with mental health problems in adulthood. This is an important finding to consider in child protection policy in sport.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

AbstractSocial practice theory (SPT) investigates how meanings (socially available understandings/attitudes) work together with competences and materials/resources to develop shared (social) practices. SPT was used as a theoretical and analytical framework in a study which investigated ‘successful’ professional practices when working with parents with learning difficulties where there are concerns about child neglect. The research took place in three local authorities (LAs) in England that were recommended as sites of ‘successful’ practice. With the parents’ agreement, 38 professionals who worked with the eight participating families were asked about their ideas about parents with learning difficulties and neglect, their understanding of ‘successful’ practice, their experience and knowledge of working with this group of parents, how they worked with the parent and other professionals involved with the parent, as well as the resources available to them. Detailed case studies of the support provided to eight mothers were developed. It was found that the professionals shared a range of attitudes and understandings, including awareness of the many barriers faced by this disadvantaged group of parents, and that the neglect was typically linked to lack of understanding/knowledge about the child’s needs which could in many cases be mitigated through provision of support. The meanings they shared promoted an empowering, relationship-based, multi-agency approach to parents which recognised their need for support while also focusing on the needs and welfare of the children. This positive approach accords with the call for longer-term/recurrent support to be available for parents with learning difficulties alongside the development of a social model of child protection that rethinks how best to safeguard vulnerable children.

Contemporary practice has started to rethink use of outdoor and community environments for advancing comprehensive rehabilitation outcomes. The aim is to examine health professionals’ experiences and perceptions of providing rehabilitation in outdoor community settings. The purpose is to use these experiences to generate practice-based knowledge in using the outdoors as a means to guide community-based rehabilitation. The Interpretive Description methodology was accompanied by social practice theory. Fieldwork was conducted utilizing participant observation, photovoice, and focus-group interviews. Included were 27 health professionals. The analysis revealed how “naturalistic learning opportunities” offered health professionals strategies to empower activity and participation levels and yet invoked “rehabilitation setting tensions.” A continuum was engaged in the theme “navigating a middle ground,” representing an integrated environment approach; rehabilitation in conventional indoor and outdoor community settings. Development of a sustainable concept for outdoor community-based rehabilitation involves strengthening health professionals’ competencies and skills for providing outdoor and community work.

Fokus penelitian ini adalah penerapan restitusi pada anak korban tindak pidana berdasarkan Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 43 Tahun 2017.Kata kunci: restitusi; anak korban tindak pidana; kekerasan seksualABSTRAKEvery child who is a victim of a crime is entitled to get restitution as stipulated in the implementing regulations of Article 71 D of the Child Protection Act No. 35 of 2014 namely Government Regulation Number 43 of 2017 concerning Implementation of Restitution for Children Who Become Victims of Criminal Acts. The implementation of restitution to victims is only aimed at a number of specific criminal acts including sexual violence. The issuance of this Government Regulation aims to provide legal protection for victims, especially children, on the application of restitution rights so that they can run well. This research is a typology of empirical legal research. The results showed that the implementation of restitution for children who were victims of sexual violence in Riau Province based on Government Regulation No. 43 of 2017 has not gone well. This is caused by several constraints namely lack of awareness from law enforcement officials to encourage the implementation of restitution for children who are victims of criminal acts, administration of submission of complex restitution applications, and restitution constraints that are not paid and the unclear provisions in Government Regulation Number 43 of 2017. The focus of this research is on the provisions stipulated in Government Regulation Number 43 of 2017 concerning the implementation of restitution for children who are victims of criminal acts. Keywords: restitution; child victims of crime; sexual assault

Abstract               Sexual violence against children is one of the serious problems we face today, various elements, especially the government, are related to the government's efforts in implementing the Child Protection Act Number 35 of 2014. On the other hand, child victims of sexual violence are part of an immature community its development both physically and psychologically, so it requires special assistance in handling it. Sexual violence against children is an act of violence perpetrated by a community whose physical or psychological development is insufficient or immature so that it requires ongoing assistance specifically relating to its handling. The cause of the occurrence of acts of sexual violence against children is due to family factors, such as parenting that allows their children to get along freely which results in the child losing his identity, the factor of parents not equipping children with religious knowledge which consequently children don’t understand what can be done and which can’t done, the influence of the environment and many more factors that can cause acts of sexual violence in children. So that children don’t experience acts of sexual violence against children, it should be as parents should set an example to children, provide the best examples for children about how to live in accordance with our religion and culture, so that children avoid sexual violence, there must be assistance or supervision strict on children. Keywords: Child Protection, Makassar City, Sexual Violence.

This study investigates the impact of student teaching abroad on first-year teaching practices. In addition to the data sources included in previous research, this study includes observations and interviews during participants’ first year of teaching to uncover the meanings each assigned to her student teaching in China. Drawing on intercultural development theories and Holland’s social practice theory of identity, we found that all participants benefited from the experience; however, their backgrounds and teaching contexts differentiated how they translated the experience to shape their beliefs and teaching practices. Thus, teachers may gain more from international experience, as they self-author meaning, if they are guided through reflections tailored to their individual needs and teaching assignments.

Article 4 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) mentions the obligations of state parties to implement the CRC. Furthermore, article 19 of the CRC requires State Parties to protect children from any form of violation including sexual violation through legislative, administrative, social and education measures. This article describes the results of research related to the implementation of CRC for child victims of sexual violence (CVSV) through court decisions. The analysis was conducted on seven Districts and three High Court decisions in 2018 in Medan and Deli Serdang Districts, North Sumatera Province in Indonesia concerning sexual violence which involve children as victims. The researcher conducted focus group discussions which involved two groups of respondents; (1) Law Enforcement Officers and (2) OPD (Organisasi Pemerintahan Daerah/Local Governments) and CSOs (Civil Society Organizations) which concerns CVSV issues. The finding shows that none of the court decisions mentioned about rights of the victims, as they focused only to punish the perpetrator(s). It is ironic since the right is regulated under several regulations in Indonesia concerning child protection. Therefore, the researcher recommends that police officers and Public Prosecutors should be more active in providing information concerning restitution for the victims. This will assist the victim(s) and his/her families to obtain justice not only by punishing the perpetrator but also by obtaining his/her right of restitution.

Building retrofit is often reported to fail in achieving predicted energy savings; this mismatch in post-retrofit conditions is labeled the ‘energy performance gap’ and may be due to both occupant behavior and technical issues. In this study, the occupant is investigated through a case study of a recently retrofitted public housing in Milan inhabited by 500+ tenants. Informed by social practice theory and interviews to households, concurrent and interdependent elements in heating space are identified—including factors of comfort, competences involved and other interconnected practices. Patterns of continuity and change in setting thermal conditions in this retrofitted building emerge. In this respect, key dynamics of the occupants are related to rooted habits in managing heating, social norms of thermal comfort, mastered skills in dealing with technical devices and infrastructure and ways of organizing other routines such as laundry and forms of entertainment when services are limitedly accessible. The results inform plans for energy efficiency through building retrofit in which the integration of the social dimension and practices may contribute to maximizing the impact of the intervention and to limiting energy performance gap.

The Active Forests programme was developed through a partnership between Forestry England and Sport England. A three-year pilot programme focused on five forest sites ran from 2014. It was mainstreamed in April 2017 and is now running on eighteen forest sites in England in 2019. The aim of the programme is to encourage a physical activity habit, and participants can get involved in a wide range of activities from Nordic walking to mountain biking, Pilates, running, and Bootcamp in different scenic forests. The aim of the research was to identify the motivations, benefits and the overall experience participants had from their forest physical activity. As part of the programme, qualitative data was gathered through in-situ participant observation, and interviews or focus groups. One hundred and twenty people were involved in the research. The findings identify some of the key elements of the programme that encourage, support and in some instances help to sustain or change physical activity. These include participants gaining a wide range of wellbeing benefits; appropriate targeted activities; opportunities for progression; social connections; providing challenge; and a supportive atmosphere. There is evidence of participants sustaining and changing physical activity practices, however attribution of this to the Active Forests programme is not straightforward. The programme is also explored through the lens of social practice theory and its concepts of materials, competence, and meanings. The research highlights how a targeted physical activity programme can reach and involve a broad range of people from the already physically active to those who are less active.
