Abstract This research was conducted after noticing the writing problems occurred in grade VIII of one public junior high school in Bandung in academic year 2017/2018. The students showed their inability of writing persuasive texts in accordance with the generic structures and language uses. The treatment used to overcome the problem was think-talk-write (TTW) together with the application of video as the instructional media. The research foci were: 1) how the learning session with TTW strategy was planned and was conducted; 2) how the improvement of students’ learning outcome by using TTW with video media was; 3) how the students’ responses towards the use of TTW with video media were. The research aimed at equipping the students with the ability to write persuasive texts appropriately. The method employed was classroom action research conducted in three cycles. The data collection techniques used were tests, observations, and questionnaires. The data were analyzed through several steps: categorizing, interpreting and validating data. The result indicated that learning to write persuasive texts by using TTW with video media improved the students’ writing ability. This was pointed by the test result from all cycles; in cycle I, the mean of students’ scores was 63; in cycle II, it increased to be 72; and in cycle III, it showed improvement to be 81. To conclude, it was proved that TTW strategy could improve the students’ writing ability on persuasive texts.   Keywords: writing, persuasive texts, learning strategy, instructional media

  This study aimed to investigate the effect of anonymous peer assessment on students’ writing ability. Quantitative approach was used in this study. Post-test only control group design was the design used in this experimental study. The post-test only control group design was designed to discover the purpose of this study which was to investigate the significant effect on writing ability between students who obtain feedback from anonymous peer assessment and students who obtain feedback from conventional assessment. The study was conducted at SMK PGRI 1 Singaraja. The eleventh grade students in Academic Year 2017/2018 were chosen as the population. The samples were 44 students from XI AP and XI UPW. The instruments used in this study were lesson plan, anonymous peer checklist, writing scoring rubric, and writing test. Writing scoring rubric and writing test were used to obtain the data through post-test while lesson plan and anonymous peer assessment were used during the treatment. The data then was analyzed by using SPSS 16. The results of the analysis show that (1) the mean score of the experimental group was 77.55 while the mean score of the control group was 68.77. (2) The t-observe was 3.892 and it exceeded the t-critical value which was 2.018. Therefore, based on the aforementioned results, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference on writing ability between the eleventh grade students who obtained feedback from anonymous peer assessment and those who obtained feedback from conventional assessment at SMK PGRI 1 Singaraja in academic year 2017/2018.

The purpose of this research is to describe the use of picture and picturemodel in learning text writing at students class VIII/B MTS Negeri Sijenjang Kota Jambi Academic Year 2016/2017. The method of the research is qualitative descriptive. The data of this research is students test result in writing text about news. The technique of collection data is by using observation, interview, test, and documentation. The result of the interview that (1) there are 22 students who gained very good predicate in which the percentage is 61,11%, (2) there are 5 students who get good predicate in which the percentage is 13,89%, (3) there are 5 students who get fair predicate in which the percentage is 13,89% , and (4) there are 4 students who get fail predicate in which the percentage is 11,11%. So, it can be concluded that the students ability in writing news report text by using picture and pictureat students class VIII/B MTS Negeri Sijenjang Kota Jambi Academic Year 2016/2017 falls into good category in which the mean is 72.Key Words:picture and picture model, writing, report news text.

This research aims at finding out the students’ ability in writing an explanation at first semester students of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University, Kupang NTT.  The researcher focuses on evaluating the students’ writing ability in five aspects of writing namely content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics.  The researcher applied the quantitative method and descriptive analysis design. The research was conducted in August 2019. This research was conducted at First semester students of the English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University, Kupang.  The population of this research was First semester students of the English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University, Kupang in the 2020/2021 academic year. The number population is 160 in four classes. The researcher took 5 students from each class as the sample of the research.  Therefore, there were 20 students as a sample. The test was used to find out the students’ ability in writing explanation text.  In collecting data, the researcher asked the students to write an argumentative essay by choosing one of the given topics. To analyze the data, the researcher focused on evaluating the students’ writing in five criteria. The result of the research shows that the mean score of the test is 6.86. It shows that the students have an average degree of capability in writing explanation text.   The biggest problem for the students in developing an explanation text is the organization (43%), it followed by the language use (37%), vocabulary (33%), content (30%), and the smallest problem is mechanics (30%).  Some factors that hamper the students in writing: 1) the students face difficulties in expressing ideas, choosing appropriate words, and arranging ideas in writing, 2) the students seldom practice their writing skill, 3) the students still find difficulty in using punctuation in writing from, 4) the students do not enrich themselves with knowledge.

ABSTRACTSATRIA. The Effectiveness of Gallery Walk Technique in Addressing the Reticence to Speak of the Eleventh Year Students of SMAN 1 Pangkep (Supervised by Ammang Latifah and Suriani).The research was aimed at finding out (1) to find out the effectiveness of Gallery Walk Technique in addressing the reticence to speak of the eleventh year students of SMAN 1 Pangkep. (2) to know the interest of the eleventh year students of SMAN 1 Pangkep in the use of Gallery Walk Technique to addressing their reticence to speakThe research was carried out under the quantitative paradigm with quasi experimental design. Class XII MIPA 2 as experimental class and class XI MIPA 3 as controlled class were chosen as the samples of this research obtained through purposive sampling technique because those classes almost have similar ability in English. The population that consisted of ten class of 360 students of SMAN 1 Pangkep in the academic year 2018/2019. The data of the students speaking performance were collected by using speaking test, while the data about the students interest were taken by using questionnaire. The data were collected then analyzed through inferential statistics through SPSS 23 program.The research result showed that (1) using gallery walk technique was more effective than in group presentation class in addressing the students reticence to speak. It is seen from the significance t test result that reveals the significance value is lower than the significance level; 0.005<0.05. The mean score of experimental class posttest is 68,19, higher 9,16 points than control class 59,03 . Therefore, the end result is 0,000160<0,05. That means Ho is rejected (Null Hypothesis) and Ha is accepted (Alternative Hypothesis). To sum it up, the results shows that gallery walk technique was effective in addressing the reticence to speak of the students. Furthermore, in relation to the students interest, (2) it was found that the mean score of the students interest through the use of gallery walk technique in addressing the students reticence to speak was 82,78 which is categorized as a high interest.

Abstract: The Use of Picture Media to Enhance Students’ Writing Ability of Recount Text at MTs N 1 of Bengkulu City, Bengkulu. This study was carried out to improve the students’ writing ability through Pictures media in Second Year Students at Mts N 01 of Bengkulu in the academic year 2018-2019. The subjects of this study have consisted of 42 students. The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The Classroom Action Research design applied in this study was a collaborative classroom action research. It means that the researcher collaborated with the English teacher of Mts N 01 of Bengkulu as an observer and collaborator. The study was carried out in three cycles. Each cycle consisted of three meetings. The data were gathered in this study through field notes, and test. The result of the study showed that there was an improvement in students’ writing ability. Most of the students gradually gained good scores at the end of each cycle. The score of Minimum Mastery Criterion- Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) of English subject was 70 (seventy). In the cycle, the result of the students' score was poor. In cycle 2 the result of the students' score has some signs of progress, and in the cycle 3, the result of the students' score has improved effectively than action in the cycle before where the mean score of students was in 75 (Good). In addition, there was a positive response from the English Teacher about implementing the action. In conclusion Pictures, media could solve the students’ problems and improve their writing ability.Abstrak: Penggunaan Media Gambar untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Menulis Teks Recount Siswa di MTs N 1 Kota Bengkulu, Bengkulu. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa melalui media Pictures pada Siswa Kelas Dua di Mts N 01 Bengkulu pada tahun akademik 2018-2019. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari 42 siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Desain Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas kolaboratif. Ini berarti bahwa peneliti berkolaborasi dengan guru bahasa Inggris Mts N 01 dari Bengkulu sebagai pengamat dan kolaborator. Penelitian dilakukan dalam tiga siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari tiga pertemuan. Data dikumpulkan dalam penelitian ini melalui catatan lapangan, dan tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan kemampuan menulis siswa. Sebagian besar siswa secara bertahap memperoleh skor bagus di akhir setiap siklus. Skor Kriteria Penguasaan Minimum- Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris adalah 70 (tujuh puluh). Pada siklusnya, hasil nilai siswa buruk. Pada siklus 2 hasil skor siswa memiliki beberapa tanda kemajuan, dan pada siklus 3, hasil skor siswa telah meningkat secara efektif daripada tindakan dalam siklus sebelum di mana skor rata-rata siswa berada di 75 (Baik) . Selain itu, ada tanggapan positif dari Guru Bahasa Inggris tentang penerapan tindakan. Kesimpulannya Pictures, media dapat memecahkan masalah siswa dan meningkatkan kemampuan menulis mereka.

This research aimed to find the use of Cue Card Method improves the students writing skill at Eight Grade Students of SMP Bajiminasa Makassar. The method of this research was classroom action research consisted of two cycles. One cycle consisted of four meeting. it meant that were eight meetings for two cycles. This classroom action research was done at SMP Bajiminasa Makassar for English subject. As a subject in this research was class VIII.A  Junior High School in the 2012-2013 academic year with student’ number as about 36 students’. Those consisted of 26 women and 10 men. the instrument was writing test and observation. The research findings indicated that the application of cue card method was effective and significant in improving the students’ writing skill, especially it focuses on students content and vocabulary. It was proved that the mean score of D-Test was 5.64, Cycle I 6.13 and after conducted Cycle II improved to 8.23 and based two cycle researcher found percentage improvement that is from D-Test to Cycle I is 13.24 % and from Cycle I to II is 29.70 and D-T to Cycle II 46.35 %. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the use of cue card method improves students’ writing skill and class condition. Therefore, it is recommended that the teachers use cue card media in teaching writing.Keywords: Writing Skill, Cue Card Method

The aim of this research is to know the effect of using Predict Observe Explain (POE) method toward students’ achievement in Physics. This is an experimental research by using experimental group and control group. The research design was Post-test Only Control Group Design. The population of this research was the students of class VII SMPN 1 Lembar academic year 2015/2016. The sampling technique was Cluster Random Sampling in which class VII 2 as the control group and class VII 3 as the experimental group. Both of the groups were given a pre-test before the treatment to know the homogeneity of the groups. The instrument used is an objective test in form of multiple choices. The finding showed that the mean of the posttest in experimental group was 70 and the control group was 60.67, in which both of them were distributed normal and homogeneous. The post-test result was analyzed by using t-test (t-test polled variants) in which the value of the was 2.473 and the  was 2.015 with dk=46 and the significant level was 5%. It showed that the was accepted and was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that Predict Observe Explain (POE) Method gave significant effect to the students’ achievement in Physics at Class VII SMPN 1 Lembar Academic year 2015/2016.

This research is aimed to develop a good realia as a media, easy to be learnt, and can be used for teaching writing descriptive text. This study is developmental research uses Sugiyono’s model. The evaluator of the media are three experts. This instruments employed in this study is a questionnaire, interview, and Test (Pre-test and Post-test). The finding of the study is the quality of the developed realia media viewed from the experts is very good (87,2 %). The final product of this realia media is continued with effectiveness exam. The study takes place in MTs. Swasta Al-Jam’iyatul Wasliyah Tembung to the studens of VIII class, academic year 2016-2017. The samples are 40 students which is given a miniature of SIB monument and National monument as realia. Pre-test and Post-test were administrated to measure students’ ability in writing descriptive text before and after using realia. The scoring system was based on five aspects; they are content, organization, vocabulary, language use, mechanics. The result shows that there is an increase of students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using realia as a media. Therefore, the writer suggest to English teacher to develop realia as one of the alternative ways to increase the students’ descriptive text writing ability.

<p><em>Some students still consider IPS as a boring subject</em><em>. It is because almost all material contains descriptive</em><em> so encourages </em><em>the teacher used a lecture method</em><em>. Many </em><em>students felt sleepy</em><em> when the learning occurred</em><em>.</em><em> Monopoly as one of the fun games could be modified into social instructional media. So that students could be more active and enthusiastic about learning. The aim of this research is</em><em>: (1) </em><em>Produce teaching materials in instructional media form;</em><em> (2)</em><em> Know the validity of instructional media;</em><em> (3) </em><em>Know the ratio of control class and experiment class result. The method</em><em> that is used in this research is the Research and Development (R&amp;D) method, to create teaching material. The subject of product assessment for the worthiness of this </em><em>instructional</em><em> media is divided by 3 experts: content expert, media expert, and learning expert. The target of product trial are the students of grade 8 Islamic Junior High School Student Nurul Ulum Malang</em><em>. </em><em>The result of this research is produced 3D product resemble a monopoly game. The difference is these learning media have material of Indonesia Freedom preparations theme. The result of this development research in the form of monopoly game has the level of eligibility by containing expert validity is 95%, media expert validity is 80%, and learning expert validity is 75%. The average of control class post-test result is 72.5, and experiment class post-test result is 79.1. The objective of this research was intended to know whether or not using outdoor learning strategy can improve the students’ writing skill at SMA Negeri 1 Maiwa Kabupaten Enrekang. This research applied quasi experimental method with one class of experimental group and one class of control group. The researcher used pre-test and post-test in collecting data. The research population was the students of tenth grade they were X.1 class and X.2 class consist of 46 students, so the researcher took random sampling technique. The data were analyzed by finding the mean score. For collecting the data, the researcher used one instrument namely descriptive writing test to measure the students’ writing ability. The result of this research showed that the student’ writing description was low classification in pre-test with the mean score 64.6 for experimental class and the mean score of control class was 60.8, and it was average categorized. However, after doing the treatment through outdoor learning strategy they got good classification for Experimental group and still average classification for control group in post-test; their mean score had increased up to 78.4, for Experimental and 69.9 for control group. The data was analyzed by using t-test and the result showed that the t-test value 4.037 was higher than t-table value 2.021. It meant that there was a significance difference of students’ writing ability before and after the treatment through the application of outdoor learning. It concluded that outdoor learning strategy can be used in improving writing description of the students.
