Abstract Liquid hydrocarbon production optimization is among key tasks in the gas condensate fields development. It depends on changes in gas supply quotas and on seasonal fluctuations in demand. The key point for such an optimization is the need to understand the current condensate-gas factor (CGF) for each well of the field to select the operating modes. Often, there is no sufficient well surveying data as these surveys are conducted not frequently enough. The paper presents an approach that allows monitoring the CGF for each well in real time and control the operating modes of the wells.

ABSTRACT Sandstones of the Early Paleozoic Miqrat Formation and Barik Sandstone Member (Haima Supergroup) are the most prolific gas/condensate containing units in the northern part of the Interior Oman Sedimentary Basin (IOSB). The reservoir-quality of these sandstones, buried to depths exceeding 5 km, is critically related to the depositional environment, burial-related diagenetic reactions, the timing of liquid hydrocarbon charge and the replacement of liquid hydrocarbon by gas/condensate. The depositional environment of the sandstones controls the net-sand distribution which results in poorer reservoir properties northwards parallel to the axis of the Ghaba Salt Basin. The sandy delta deposits of the Barik Sandstone Member have a complex diagenetic history, with early dolomite cementation, followed by compaction, chlorite formation, hydrocarbon charge, quartz and anhydrite precipitation and the formation of pore-filling and pore-lining bitumen. In the Miqrat Formation sandstone, which is comprised of inland sabkha deposits, similar authigenic minerals occur, but with higher abundances of dolomite and anhydrite, and less quartz cement. The deduced pore water evolution from deposition to recent, in both the Miqrat Formation and the Barik Sandstone Member, reflects an early addition of saline continental waters and hydrocarbon-burial related mineral reactions with the likely influx of lower-saline waters during the obduction of the Oman Mountains. Four structural provinces are recognized in the IOSB based on regional differences in the subsidence/uplift history: the Eastern Flank, the Ghaba and Fahud Salt Basins and the Mabrouk-Makarem High. In the Fahud Salt Basin, biodegradation of an early oil charge during Late Paleozoic uplift resulted in reservoir-quality degradation by bitumen clogging of the pore space. On the Eastern Flank and the Mabrouk-Makarem High, however, the early oil bypassed the area. In contrast, post-Carboniferous liquid hydrocarbons were trapped in the Mabrouk-Makarem High, whereas on the Eastern Flank surface water infiltration and loss of hydrocarbons or biodegradation to pore occluding bitumen occurred. In the Ghaba Salt Basin, post-Carboniferous hydrocarbon charge induced a redox reaction to form porosity/permeability preserving chlorite in the reservoirs. The liquid hydrocarbons were replaced since the obduction of the Oman Mountains by gas/condensate which prevented the deep parts (>5,000 m) of the Ghaba Salt Basin from pore occluding pyrobitumen and thus deterioration of the reservoir quality.

Summary Liquid hydrocarbon quantity optimization is among key technological indicators in the gas condensate fields development. To achieve it one needs to select and maintain optimal well-operating conditions. In this case, multiphase flow measurements are prioritized as an important optimization tool. The article presents a proven record of implementing the technology of instrumentalised virtual multiphase flow metering in the wells of the Vostochno-Makarovskoye gas condensate field to increase the efficiency of liquid hydrocarbon production. Virtual flow metering technologies that use modeling methods and adapt models to actual well-operating parameters aiming at determining well production rates are becoming increasingly popular. At that, the quality of the data at the model input does not often guarantee a qualitative determination of multiphase flow parameters. This article presents a track record of building a virtual multiphase flow meter based on single-phase streamer flow meters mounted on gas wells. Venturi flow meters were used. A series of well tests were conducted in various modes. To configure the streamer model, additional tuning studies were conducted on the separator. While testing the wells, the results of constructing a streamer model were verified by nodal analysis.

The design and control of blast furnace (BF) ironmaking must be optimized in order to be competitive and sustainable, particularly under the more and more demanding and tough economic and environmental conditions. To achieve this, it is necessary to understand the complex multiphase flow, heat and mass transfer, and global performance of a BF. In this paper injection of alternative reducing agents via lances in the tubers of blast furnaces is discussed to reduce the consumption of metallurgical coke. Besides liquid hydrocarbons and pulverized coal the injection of recycled waste plastics is possible, offering the opportunity to chemically reuse waste material and also utilize the energy contained in such remnants.

Gas condensates are liquid mixtures of high-boiling hydrocarbons of various structures, separated from natural gases during their production at gas condensate fields. When transporting gas through pipelines, the following gas quality conditions should be met:i.During transportation, gases should not cause corrosion of pipelines, fittings, instruments, etc.ii.The quality of the gas must ensure its transportation in a single-phase state i.e., liquid hydrocarbons, gas condensates and hydrates should not form in the pipelines. In order for gas condensates to meet the above-mentioned quality conditions during storage or transportation, they must be stabilized. Gas condensate stabilization is the process of “boiling off” light hydrocarbons from the condensate that would otherwise increase the vapor pressure when conditions are fluctuating.

Abstract As is known, fractured reservoirs compared to conventional reservoirs have such features as complex pore volume structure, high heterogeneity of the porosity and permeability properties etc. Apart from this, the productivity of a specific well is defined above all by the number of natural fractures penetrated by the wellbore and their properties. Development of fractured reservoirs is associated with a number of issues, one of which is related to uneven and accelerated water flooding due to water breakthrough through fractures to the wellbores, for this reason it becomes difficult to forecast the well performance. Under conditions of lack of information on the reservoir structure and aquifer activity, the 3D digital models of the field generated using the hydrodynamic simulators may feature insufficient predictive capability. However, forecasting of breakthroughs is important in terms of generating reliable HC and water production profiles and decision-making on reservoir management and field facilities for produced water treatment. Identification of possible sources of water flooding and planning of individual parameters of production well operation for the purpose of extending the water-free operation period play significant role in the development of these reservoirs. The purpose of this study is to describe the results of the hydrochemical monitoring to forecast the water flooding of the wells that penetrated a fractured reservoir on the example of a gas condensate field in Bolivia. The study contains data on the field development status and associated difficulties and uncertainties. The initial data were results of monthly analyses of the produced water and the water-gas ratio dynamics that were analyzed and compared to the data on the analogue fields. The data analysis demonstrated that first signs of water flooding for the wells of the field under study may be diagnosed through the monitoring of the produced water mineralization - the water-gas ratio (WGR) increase is preceded by the mineralization increase that may be observed approximately a month earlier. However, the data on the analogue fields shows that this period may be longer – from few months to two years. Thus, the hydrochemical method within integrated monitoring of development of a field with a fractured reservoir could be one of the efficient methods to timely adjust the well operation parameters and may extend the water-free period of its operation.

Abstract Field development planning of gas condensate fields using numerical simulation has many aspects to consider that may lead to a significant impact on production optimization. An important aspect is to account for the effects of network constraints and process plant operating conditions through an integrated asset model. This model should honor proper representation of the fluid within the reservoir, through the wells and up to the network and facility. Obaiyed is one of the biggest onshore gas field in Egypt, it is a highly heterogeneous gas condensate field located in the western desert of Egypt with more than 100 wells. Three initial condensate gas ratios are existing based on early PVT samples and production testing. The initial CGRs as follows;160, 115 and 42 STB/MMSCF. With continuous pressure depletion, the produced hydrocarbon composition stream changes, causing a deviation between the design parameters and the operating parameters of the equipment within the process plant, resulting in a decrease in the recovery of liquid condensate. Therefore, the facility engineers demand a dynamic update of a detailed composition stream to optimize the system and achieve greater economic value. The best way to obtain this compositional stream is by using a fully compositional integrated asset model. Utilizing a fully compositional model in Obaiyed is challenging, computationally expensive, and impractical, especially during the history match of the reservoir numerical model. In this paper, a case study for Obaiyed field is presented in which we used an alternative integrated asset modeling approach comprising a modified black-oil (MBO) that results in significant timesaving in the full-field reservoir simulation model. We then used a proper de-lumping scheme to convert the modified black oil tables into as many components as required by the surface network and process plant facility. The results of proposed approach are compared with a fully compositional approach for validity check. The results clearly identified the system bottlenecks. The model can be used to propose the best tie-in location of future wells in addition to providing first-pass flow assurance indications throughout the field's life and under different network configurations. The model enabled the facility engineers to keep the conditions of the surface facility within the optimized operating envelope throughout the field's lifetime.

Abstract A fully integrated production model (IPM) has been implemented in the Sakhalin field to optimize hydrocarbons production and carried out effective field development. To achieve our goal in optimizing production, a strategy has been accurately executed to align the surface facilities upgrade with the production forecast. The main challenges to achieving the goal, that we have faced were:All facilities were designed for early production stage in late 1980's, and as the asset outdated the pipeline sizes, routing and compression strategies needs review.Detecting, predicting and reducing liquid loading is required so that the operator can proactively control the hydrocarbon production process. No integrated asset model exists to date. The most significant engineering tasks were solved by creating models of reservoirs, wells and surface network facility, and after history matching and connecting all the elements of the model into a single environment, it has been used for the different production forecast scenarios, taking into account the impact of infrastructure bottlenecks on production of each well. This paper describes in detail methodology applied to calculate optimal well control, wellhead pressure, pressure at the inlet of the booster compressor, as well as for improving surface flowlines capacity. Using the model, we determined the compressor capacity required for the next more than ten years and assessed the impact of pipeline upgrades on oil gas and condensate production. Using optimization algorithms, a realistic scenario was set and used as a basis for maximizing hydrocarbon production. Integrated production model (IPM) and production optimization provided to us several development scenarios to achieve target production at the lowest cost by eliminating infrastructure constraints.

The economic component of our country has been and remains the fuel and energy industry, in particular the oil and gas industry. The decline in liquid hydrocarbon production, due to the depletion of a huge number of exploited wells, makes us look for ways to solve the problems that arise. One of the solutions to this kind of problems seems to be an increase in the number of oil and gas wells that encounter problems due to the high content of harmful components, in particular hydrogen sulfide. Leading oil campaigns have their own vision for solving these problems. Researches of scientists in this area offer their solutions to this kind of issues. One of such proposals is the development of technology for the utilization of hydrogen sulfide by oxidizing gases with atmospheric oxygen on solid catalysts. The article proposes a method for the separation of sulfur from highly concentrated hydrogen sulfide-containing gas in a fluidized bed of catalyst. The authors tested the proposed method in a pilot plant and made recommendations for conducting this kind of research.

The direct conversion of natural gas-in particular, its principal component, methane into useful products has been the subject of intense study over the past decades. However, commercialization of this process is still not viable because its conversion and selectivity potentials remain low. Thus, the search continues to come up with a suitable catalyst that allows methane to be oxidized in a controlled environment to yield a high percentage of higher hydrocarbons. ZSM-5 zeolite has been known to be a suitable catalyst for olefin oligomerization. Previous studies, however, have indicated that ZSM-5 zeolites are not resistant to high temperatures. In this work, ZSM-5 was modified with copper and tungsten to develop a highly active and heat-resistant bifunctional oxidative acid catalyst. The oxidation of methane was performed over W/Cu/HZSM-5 catalyst and the results compared with the catalytic performance of W/ HZSM-5 and HZSM-5 catalysts. The metal oxide on the catalyst surface led to enhanced conversion of Hz and CO to CZ-3 ydrocarbons and, hence, reduced HzO selectivity. Inh the liquid hydrocarbons, Cs+ selectivity increased with increasing amount of surface Bn1Jnstedacid sites. The experimental results indicated higher methane conversion and liquid hydrocarbon selectivity than that of W/3.0Cu/HZSM-5 catalyst.
