‘Porotan’ is a Japanese chestnut cultivar (Castanea crenata Sieb. et Zucc.) that was selected from offspring of the cross 550-40 × ‘Tanzawa’ and released in 2006. Its nut is distinguished by a pellicle that is easy to peel after roasting; previously, all Japanese chestnut cultivars were thought to have a pellicle that was difficult to peel. Both 550-40 and ‘Tanzawa’ are Japanese chestnuts, and 550-40 is a selection descended from ‘Tanzawa’. Both 550-40 and ‘Tanzawa’ have a pellicle that is difficult to peel. Among 59 offspring of a cross of 550-40 × ‘Tanzawa’, 12 had an easy-peeling pellicle and 47 had a difficult-peeling pellicle; this ratio is not significantly different from the 1:3 expected ratio for monogenic inheritance based on a chi-square test at P = 0.05. A half-diallel cross without selfings was made among ‘Porotan’, ‘Tanzawa’, and ‘Tsukuba’. All the offspring from ‘Tanzawa’ × ‘Tsukuba’ and from ‘Tsukuba’ × ‘Porotan’ had a difficult-peeling pellicle; in contrast, 39 offspring from ‘Tanzawa’ × ‘Porotan’ segregated in a ratio of 19 difficult-peeling pellicle to 20 easy-peeling pellicle, which is not significantly different from the expected 1:1 ratio for monogenic segregation based on a chi-square test at P = 0.05. These results suggest that the easy-peeling pellicle trait of ‘Porotan’ is controlled by a major recessive gene at a single locus. We designated the pellicle peelability locus as P/p. According to this model, the ‘Tsukuba’ genotype is homozygous-dominant (PP), the ‘Tanzawa’ genotype is heterozygous (Pp), and the ‘Porotan’ genotype is homozygous-recessive (pp).

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the inheritance of resistance to Cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus (CABMV) in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata). The study was performed between parental genotypes IT85F-2687 (resistant) and 'BR-14 Mulato' (susceptible), generating F1, F2, and F7 populations and backcrosses with both parental genotypes. CABMV was inoculated on plants from all generations, which were then evaluated through visual inspection and description of characteristic symptoms. A chi-square test was performed after the phenotypic classification of all plants. A segregation proportion of 1:3 (resistant:susceptible) in population F2 and of 1:1 in population F7 was accepted, showing a recessive monogenic inheritance.

Leaf curl is a serious viral disease of chilli caused by a group of bigomoviruses dominated by chilli leaf curl virus (ChiLcv). With the aim to study the mode of inheritance of the ChiLcv disease resistance, a resistant genotype DLS-Sel.10 was crossed with a susceptible genotype Phule Mukta and F1, F2, B1 and B2 generations were developed. The parents along with the segregating generations were screened under natural conditions as well as challenged inoculation with viruliferous whiteflies carrying predominant ChiLcv.PCR amplification of viral genome-specific marker confirmed the presence of virus in all the tested plants however, only susceptible plants produced symptoms. The F1 plants showed susceptibility under both natural and challenged inoculation conditions indicating that the resistance is of recessive nature. On Chi-square test, it was found that susceptible and resistant plants of the two F2populations segregated in a ratio of 3 susceptible : 1 resistant plants and the B2 population derived from DLS-Sel.10/Phule Mukta//DLS-Sel.10 segregated in a ratio of 1 resistant : 1 susceptible plant suggesting that the Chilcv is goverened by a single recessive gene. The findings of this study will help in breeding for ChiLcv resistance in Chilli.

ABSTRACT

The fruit of ornamental chili functioned as ornamental as well as for consumption, and therefore it requires diversity of traits for selection process. Information on inheritance pattern of the traits are needed for effective selection. The ideotype of ornamental chili are shortened internode that form a bouquet of flowers, erect fruit orientation and contain anthocyanins for attractive appearance. The research was aimed to study qualitative characters inheritance associated with shortened internode, fruit orientation and anthocyanins content. This study used 6 population including female parent (P1) which has anthocyanin in flower parts, the male parent (P2) bird pepper which has the character of a shortened internode, F1, F1R, BCP1, BCP2, and F2. Data were analyzed with Chi-square test to determine the Mendelian ratio in the F2 population. The results showed that there were characters that was controlled by one gene or two genes. Shortened internode and erect fruit orientation were controlled by a single recessive gene with a ratio of 1:3. On the other hand the color of anthocyanin in the anther stem was controlled by one dominant gene with a ratio of 3:1. The characters controlled by two genes that were dominant and recessive epistasis was the color of anthocyanins in the anther with the ratio 13:3.

Keywords: Mendelian ratio, antosianin, shortened internode

Safflower is a rare culture adapted for growing in arid regions. It has wide usage as decorative, feeding plant and in medicine but mainly it is used in oil production nowadays. In rain insufficient areas in summer months it can be used as alternative to sunflower. Because of climate changes the study of the culture becomes even more important. The safflower plant (Carthamus tinctorius L) of the family of Asteraceae is one of the oilseeds growing in Asia, America, on the territory of Ukraine. Safflower is used as a forage plant for animals and birds, for technical, decorative purposes, in medicine. Safflower is a rough, herbaceous, annual plant with a pronounced appearance of an inhabitant of dry steppes. It is believed that the habitat of this species is confined to steppes and semi-deserts. The root of safflower is pivotal, it gives the plant the opportunity to feel good in arid climates. The stem is hard, branching, whitish in color, up to 100 cm tall, sometimes more. The leaves are alternate, sessile, oblong-lanceolate, leathery, with sharp edges, which usually end with spines, although there are varieties without spines, with a sharply protruding network of veins from below. According to available data, one recessive gene causes erectoid location of branches. Researchers Fernandez-Martinez and Knowles point to the existence of two genes that have the opposite effect on the location of branches. The ap gene in the homozygous state causes the branches to tilt at an angle of 20 degrees or less relative to the stem, and the dec gene from 80 to 90 degrees. The combination of these genes gives the slope of the branches to the stem in 40-70 degrees. The Institute of Oilseed Crops NAAS of Ukraine has been engaged in cultivation of safflower since 2001. The aim of this work was to study the inheritance of branch position on the stem and the association of plant height and rosette habit of samples in our collection. For realization of the work were used the methods of field experiment, genetic analysis and mathematical statistics. For determining the type of inheritance the results of free and artificial pollination were used. Chi-square test was used as a statistical method. Four samples from our collection heterogeneous by height, branch position and rosette habit were involved in crosses: Belotsvetkovy nekoluchy, Salut, Medovy, Kurchavy. Characteristics of crossed collection samples: Belotsvetkovy nekoluchy — normal branch position, medium height, average rosette habit; Salut — erectoid branch position, high, late rosette habit; Medovy — normal branch position, medium height, average rosette habit; Kurchavy — normal branch position, medium height, average rosette habit. The first generation from the free pollination of the plant with normal branch position in 2011 also had normal branch position, the second generation demonstrated splitting by 3:1 scheme into normal and wide branch position accordingly. In crossing plants with normal and erectoid branch position the first generation hybrids also had normal branch position, the second generation demonstrated splitting by 3:1 scheme into plants with normal and erectoid branch position. When crossing the sample Salut (high, late rosette habit) with Kurchavy sample (medium height, average rosette habit) the first generation hybrids were of medium height and average rosette habit. The second generation splitting scheme validly differed from the expected one 9:3:3:1. Genes encoding these traits are not fully linked. Using the formula r = n/N, where n is the number of recombinants and N is the total number of specimen, we calculated the crossover frequency. Thus, the sing of the normal branch position dominates wide and erectoid branch position sings in safflower. The sing of the rosette habit is linked with plant height sing. The distance between genes is 6,13 morganite.

Abstract The research was carried out to study the colour inheritance genetics of the root epidermis, core (phloem) and cortex (xylem), from the parental crosses of the varieties Pusa Meghali (Orange), Pusa Rudhira (Red) and Pusa Kulfi (Yellow). Resultant in crosses yielded uniform mixed colours in F1 (first filial generation), thus could enhance the security of human nutrition through the mixture of carotenoids and anthocyanins in the F1. The F1s were advance to produce F2 and backcross (BCP1 and BCP2) generations, and the Chi-square test ratio (χ2) showed that the root colour of the orange epidermis and cortex (xylem) was dominant over the red and yellow colours, and regulated by dominant genes Oe and Ocx from the parent Pusa Meghali. While, the root colour of the orange core (phloem) was found to be recessive to the red (Rc) from Pusa Rudhira and yellow (Yc) colour from Pusa Kulfi, and to be regulated by a single recessive gene (oc) from the parent Pusa Meghali. These finding of genetic inheritance of colours would be useful in the development of bio-fortified F1 hybrids and varieties which are rich in flavonoids.

Breast feeding is giving milk to be drunk to the baby from the breast. Uterus involution is a process how the uterus return to the condition back, before pregnanting after bearing. At the moment of suckling, happens a stimulus and brings the hormones out, such as oksitosin uses not only to stimulate some muscles constraction but also to stimulate the uterus, so that the process of uterus involution happens foster. According to the explanations above, the research aimed to know about the correlation between breast feeding and uterus involution. This research’s design was, cross sectional by the population of all childbirth mothers approximately 50 persons / month. By using accidental sampling technique we got 21 sample respondents. The place of research in RSIA Aura Syifa in Kediri Regency on 16th until 22nd of June 2009. From this research’s result, we got 14 persons (66,67%) with normal uterus involution, suckled in a good way, one person (4,67%) with normal uterus involution, suckled in a wrong way, 2 persons (9,52%) with abnormal uterus involution, suckled in a good way and 4 persons (19,05%) with abnormal uterus involution, suckled in a wrong way. Statistic test which used chi-square test, counted the probability frequency in advance, from that we got 3 columns with the score, less than 5, so that chi-square can not be continued and by doing exact fisher test, the score was 0,001. Because P with the grade mistake 0,05 smaller, so the conclusion was “Ho” is rejected, it meant “there was correlation between suckling and uterus involution”. Key Word : Breast feeding, uterus involution

Radiographic Mandibular Indices serve as easy and relatively cheap tools for evaluating bone mineralization. Objectives: To examine the effect of age and gender on three mandibular indices: the panoramic mandibular index (PMI), the mandibular ratio (MR) and the mandibular cortical index (MCI), among Libyan population. Methods: The three indices were measured on 317 digital (OPGs) of adult humans (155 males, 162 females). The sample was divided into six age groups (from 18-25 years through 56-65 years). The measurements were analyzed for interactions with age and sex, using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Studies) software version no. 22. The tests employed were two way ANOVA, the unpaired T-test and chi-square test. Results: The mean PMI fluctuated between 0.37 s.d. 0.012 and 0.38 s.d. 0.012. among the sixth age groups. One-way ANOVA statistical test revealed no significant of age on PMI. On the other hand gender variation has effect on PMI, since independent sample t-test disclosed that the difference between the male and female PMI means statistically significant. ANOVA test showed that the means of MR among age groups showed a negative correlation i.e. MR mean declined from 3.01 in 18-25 age groups to 2.7 in 55-65 age groups. In contrary, the gender showed no effect on MR according two sample t-test at p> 0.05. In regards with MCI, statistical analysis showed that it affected by age that is C1 was decreasing by age while C2 and C3 were increased by age. Using chi square test the result indicated that there is a significant difference among the different age group and the two genders in MCI readings. Conclusion: PMI was influenced significantly by age but minimally by the gender. MR is not affected by gender but has a negative correlation with age. MCI is affected by both age and gender
