This paper explores the relationship between the accumulation of human capital in the regions of Russia and the volume of foreign direct investment, as well as the volume of domestic investment in fixed capital. This topic is little studied in Russian economic literature, although it is actively discussed by modern economists in other countries. The hypothesis about the existence of a positive relationship between the accumulation of physical and human capital in the Russian economy is tested. The apparatus of production functions, correlation and regression analysis are used to statistically check the degree of influence of human capital on the intensity of investments, both domestic and foreign. To measure human capital, both natural and monetary measures were used. The presence of a positive, stable and statistically significant relationship between the human capital accumulated in the regions and the intensity of investment processes is shown. A negative relationship between the density of employment and the volume of investment in fixed assets of the Russian regions was also revealed.

Abstract Forests play an important role in water conservation. It is important to study the relationship between forest water conservation (FWC) and forestry investment. Based on official statistics and ecological network observation data in China from 1999 to 2013, this paper for the first time uses correlation analysis and regression analysis methods to analyze the relationship between FWC and forest silviculture investment in fixed assets (FSIFA). Results show that FWC and FSIFA have a strong correlation and a strong influence, correlation coefficient is around 0.96. The amount of annual forest water conservation is increased with an increase in investment in fixed assets. The study also found that FSIFA affecting annual FWC lags more than 1 year, showing that FSIFA cannot play a role in water conservation immediately. The research also discussed other affecting factors on FWC, such as forest coverage rate, economic development level and forest quality improvement, etc. Their effects were also found to lag 1–5 years. Finally, the paper predicts the amount of annual FWC from 2014 to 2020 and gives some suggestions to strengthen investment in forest fixed assets and improve management of forest resources so as to promote the development of benefits of FWC.

This article analyzes the relationship between inflation, increase of investment in fixed assets, monetary policy, financial openness, national savings, macro-economic climate index, deposit rate, and the development of insurance industry in China. We set the incremental indicators as the variables and constructed an analysis integrating a multiple linear regression, stepwise regression, and robustness analysis, and used historical monthly data sample during the period of January 2004 to December 2017 for empirical analysis. The result indicates that (a) the national savings and macro-economic climate index are the major factors that influence the development of insurance industry in China by now; (b) to improve the development of insurance industry, both the economic growth and people’s income should continue to advance; and (c) financial openness should be paid more attention to, which is insufficient, and there is lack of competitive vitality in the whole insurance market.

Despite professors’ education and socialization and the significant re- wards they receive for research activities and output, the 80/20 rule seems to apply; that is, there exists a system of stars who produce a disproportionate volume of research such that most research tends to be undertaken by a small percentage of the academy (Erkut, 2002). Although a growing body of research seeks to address this imbalance, studies of research productivity have tended to reveal its institutional and non-behavioural antecedents. As a result, there exists very little re- search that considers the strategies that individuals employ to improve their personal research productivity. This exploratory, questionnaire- based study of a sample of Canadian professors attempts to address this gap by examining the relationship among a number of strategies, what professors report as being their average annual number of publications over the past five years, and their perceptions of their level of research productivity. Not surprisingly, in this study, we found that the amount of time that individuals invested in research activities predicted their level of research productivity. Additionally, strategically focusing one’s research positively influenced journal publication levels, both directly and through its interaction with seeking resources (such as research grants). A strategic focus also positively predicted self-perceived re- search productivity through its interaction with managing ideas. Finally, although the perceived need to free up time from teaching and committee work was negatively related to journal publication levels, it was positively related to perceptions of productivity.

The paper investigates the patterns of entrepreneurship development by analyzing such indicators as: gross domestic product and turnover of small and medium-sized businesses. The following factors were selected and analyzed as the main factors that determine the tendencies of changes in entrepreneurial activity: investments in fixed assets at actual prices, as well as the purchase of goods and payment for services – consumption. The functions of indicators of consumption, investment in fixed assets, GDP and SME turnover have been formulated. A neural network modeling of the above functions and patterns of entrepreneurship development has been performed. The quality of the constructed models and the influence of factors determining the patterns of changes in entrepreneurial activity are assessed.

The relevance of the topic is due to the fact that an operational assessment of the dynamics of the main macroeconomic variables, including GDP, is a prerequisite for an effective economic policy. This work substantiates the consideration of the technological level of development of cyberspace as a predictor of the current dynamics of GDP along with data from official statistics. The scientific significance of the study: the relationship between the dynamics of the development of cyberspace and the dynamics of changes in the volume of GDP is revealed, which allows us to predict changes in the volumes of GDP, as well as the dynamics of changes in world capital, taking into account the various stages of development of national economies; statistical relationship between the influx of investment in fixed assets and the growth rate of GDP is identified.

The aim of the study is to test the hypothesis about the possibility of using models of the functioning of hierarchical socioeconomic systems for a shortterm forecast. The models of the power multiplicative form – production functions describing the dependence of the volume of the gross domestic product by region on the cost of fixed production assets, the average annual number of employees and investments in fixed assets for the section «Manufacturing» (NACE) are considered. Three types of models based on data for the regions of the Central Federal District for 2007–2018 were tested. The parameters of the first model used in calculating the standards for each of the regions were found using OLS for a combined sample for a set of regions. The parameters of the models of the second type were obtained from the data for each of the regions separately by solving the optimization problem taking into account the constraints on changes in the coefficients of the model of the first type with a 95% confidence probability. The parameters of the models of the third type were found from samples for each of the regions without taking into account constraints on the coefficients of the model using OLS. A comparative analysis of the calculated (according to three models) and actual values of the gross domestic product by region volume was carried out using the average relative error according to the 2019 data for each of the regions and the district as a whole. With the exception of the Moscow region, all values fall within the specified range of values predicted by the normative model. The hypothesis is partially confirmed.

The paper studies the heterogeneity of the investment process based on the clustering of regions of the Russian Federation. The main factors for clustering were the ratio of GRP and investment in fixed assets to the average population of the region, the share of machinery and equipment in the investment structure, the degree of depreciation of fixed assets, the share of equity in the structure of investment financing sources, the share of borrowed funds in the source structure investment financing. The main trends in investments in each of the selected groups of regions are identified and the main problems are identified. It is proved that regions with insufficient investment demonstrate the worst indicators of economic dynamics.
