Researchers on linguistic and discourse related to palm oil conflicts and problems are very scarce internationally. Some researchers are mostly not exposed massively to the public, therefore the people are not fully aware of palm oil linguistic cases. The politics of palm oil conflicts in Indonesia involves anti-language, the war on discourse, and agrolinguistic cases. The problem is this politics seems to be oriented to exploit the problems, not to solve them. Manipulation becomes one of the major factors of the prolonged palm oil conflicts in Indonesia. The aspects of language and discourse play significant roles due to its functions as the medium of exploration on palm oil plantations. It can be said that language is one of the core ingredients to create and to solve management of regional conflicts of palm oil. Thus, e135 paradigm, agrolinguistics, and forensic linguistics can be applied eclectically to analyze on the objects like anti-language, the war on discourse, conflicts of palm oil, and palm oil regulations and acts as well in order to suggest some regulations in solving and preventing severe conflict and its potential.  The aspects of political meaning, culture, and values are also studied in this paper. Thus, e135 paradigm based on multidisciplinary linguistic analysis at the strategic level, agrolinguistics and forensic linguistics is applied. A qualitative approach was applied. In collecting the data, some instruments such as existing documents and existing records were used. This paper was based on Hibah Berbasis Kompetensi (Competency-based Research) in 2016 funded by Ministry of Research and Technology of Indonesia.

Abstract International business negotiations are prone to several difficulties, one of the most fundamental of which being differences in cultural conceptualizations (Sharifian 2011). In order to explore how Brazilians and Germans conceptualize respect in business negotiations, interviews in English with business negotiators were conducted and cultural conceptualizations analyzed. Following an ‘organic’ (Quinn 2005) and (mainly) qualitative approach to data, this paper presents: (a) the main conceptualizations found for both groups; (b) a cognitive-linguistic analysis of collocations of ‘respect’ found in the interviews; and (c) a preliminary sketch of group-level conceptualizations of respect in business negotiations for both groups. For Brazilians, the source domains location and vertical splitting were salient, which points to the relevance of hierarchy. For Germans, the source domain horizontal splitting and the sphere separation cultural schema were recurrent, which signals appreciation for the public-private sphere separation. These conceptual differences might have practical consequences in international negotiation scenarios.

What is the contemporary condition of the monument? In relation to the current issue’s discussion of immersive and discursive exhibition practices, this essay places itself at a slight remove; rather than to analyse and evaluate specific curatorial strategies it seeks to raise questions of relevance to such practices and begins by moving the discourse out of the museum and into the public space. The point of interrogation here is the monument, a form with a particular capacity to tease and expose the triad we find at the core of any curatorial discourse: the relation between institution, artwork and audience. Following an introductory reflection on how to describe and define a ‘monument’, a term so broadly used it all but loses its value, the text proceeds to examine three cases, Monument de la Renaissance Africaine, Dakar (2010), Danh Vo’s WE THE PEOPLE (DETAIL), various locations (2010-13), and Thomas Hirschhorn’s Gramsci Monument, New York (2013). The sequencing of these geographically and culturally diverse works makes way for an interrogatory piece of writing that addresses the question of permanence versus temporariness of the artwork as exhibition (and the exhibition as artwork), and that of the political agency of the artistic form. Probing the social agency of the monument, the text draws lines between the symbolising capacity once held by modern sculpture and the oscillation between immersion and discursiveness as two complimentary modes of communication. The discursive content or function of the monument (i.e. what it commemorates) is activated through the viewer’s personal, immersive encounter with its form, a form that potentially places its viewer as a participant to the construction of its message rather than as a mere receiver.
