ABSTRACT: In an era where knowledge is increasingly seen as an organization's most valuable asset, many firms have implemented knowledge-management systems (KMS) in an effort to capture, store, and disseminate knowledge across the firm. Concerns have been raised, however, about the potential dependency of users on KMS and the related potential for decreases in knowledge acquisition and expertise development (Cole 1998; Alavi and Leidner 2001b; O'Leary 2002a). The purpose of this study, which is exploratory in nature, is to investigate whether using KMS embedded with explicit knowledge impacts novice decision makers' judgment performance and knowledge acquisition differently than using traditional reference materials (e.g., manuals, textbooks) to research and solve a problem. An experimental methodology is used to study the relative performance and explicit knowledge acquisition of 188 participants partitioned into two groups using either a KMS or traditional reference materials in problem solving. The study finds that KMS users outperform users of traditional reference materials when they have access to their respective systems/materials, but the users of traditional reference materials outperform KMS users when respective systems/materials are removed. While all users improve interpretive problem solving and encoding of definitions and rules, there are significant differences in knowledge acquisition between the two groups.

ABSTRACTThe utilization and existence of centrifugal machine pumps in the industrial world is very important to assist the production process, at least almost 75% of industries use this type of machine pump. As an operational tool in the industry, centrifugal pumps must be able to be used and maintained properly because the damage to the pumping machine causes the operational or production process to be not maximal even can lead to cessation of the production process, and the impact on financial losses are not small. This study aims to create a knowledge management design to assist in the manufacture of software so that ultimately can facilitate the users (technicians) centrifugal pump machine do maintenance and repair the machine. To achieve the purpose of the research the researcher uses the stages of research consisting of three stages, namely: Phase 1. Preparation and Identification of knowledge; Phase 2. Analysis and Design of Knowledge Management and Phase 3. Design of Knowledge Management Prototype. Meanwhile, to manage the knowledge and explicit knowledge of the researcher using Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) method by using Nearest Neighbor Retrieval algorithm to find the best solution in maintaining and repairing centrifugal pump machine by calculating the proximity between new technical constraints and the old technical obstacle already in the database. The aim of the study was to find out how students preferred using asynchronous and synchronous e-learning tools. Asynchronous learning occurs when there is no predetermined time for it to take place. Learners can learn whenever and wherever they want, and they can take their time to learn what they need to know. Synchronous e-learning is characterized by structured and time-bound activities delivered via web conferencing and chatting. At the Preparatory Centre for Science and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (PCST, UMS) lecturers could conduct synchronous or asynchronous due to MCO which was enforced on March 18, 2020. As a result, this study was done to examine the impact of several learning styles on foundation UMS students during the COVID-19 crisis, including synchronous and asynchronous. The quantitative data analysis of research will be presented in this study. Microsoft Excel was used for data analysis. The male and female students' opinions were compared using an independent sample t-test. Additionally, the responses of students to various aspects of e-learning were represented using descriptive statistics. The findings found a significant difference in students' perceptions of the efficacy of asynchronous e-learning activities. Female students’ responses show that they found asynchronous is more effective than male students at the foundation education level. Students were found to have a greater interest in asynchronous and blended learning activities.

Since it was established in 2003 until 2014, the “MP” bank had never provided its human resources development training. As a result, it decreased its employees’ performance which ultimately gave a bad impact on the bank. This was a serious concern for the management in 2015. This study aimed to determine and analyze the impact of knowledge management variables consisting of socialization, externalization, combination, and Internalisation on the employees performance indirectly through their competence. The path analysis was used to determine the indirect impact of knowledge management on the wmployess’ performance, with the  samples of 140 people. The data analysis and hypothesis testing proved that knowledge management had significant effect on the employees performance indirectly through the employees competence. The R-square of socialization, externalization, combination, and internalisation of the employees competence were 70.5%; and the R-square of competence variable to the performance was 52%. This showed that knowledge management played an important role in improving the employees performance through their competence. It implies that the bank needs to provide in-house training for its employees resource development because only relying on the quality the employees get from the college was not enough

Purpose Managing knowledge effectively and efficiently is considered to be a key success factor to gain sustainable competitive advantage for organizations. This study aims to analyze the impact of knowledge management (KM) processes on human resource management (HRM). Design/methodology/approach To test the relationship of KM processes on HRM, a case study was conducted using structural equation modeling based on data collected from employees and managers of a Telecom company in Turkey. The survey instrument is a self-administered questionnaire composed of 37 questions. Three of them are demographic questions; 20 questions aim to reveal KM processes and 14 for HRM practices. The questionnaire was distributed via google survey link to employees and managers in headquarters office and two branches in Istanbul. Findings In this paper, the authors tried to investigate the impact of KM practices on the HRM performance of a company. The results indicate that companies with better KM practices tend to perform better at HRM. The main contribution of this paper lies in pointing out that, among the dimensions of KM, knowledge sharing and knowledge utilization have direct impact on HRM, whereas knowledge generation and knowledge sharing have indirect impacts. Research limitations/implications The main limitation of this study lies in the fact that data are collected from a single company in telecom industry. Therefore, it is difficult to generalize the results. Although the research findings are aligned with those of the previous studies, further research using data from numerous companies in various industries is still needed to generalize the research findings. Practical implications The paper includes implications for the development of knowledge utilization generated and stored within the company. The knowledge can create improvements in the company’s HRM performance if it is shared and used effectively. The paper addresses an important subject and the findings may be used by human resources and KM practitioners interested in the development of organizational knowledge through human resource practices.
