Abstract: This paper aimed to identify and formulate the labor market demand on works skills for secretary indicated in job advertisements. The study conducted from February to July 2019. The particular research used content analysis with a qualitative approach. Data collection used documentation and focused on group discussion. The object of this research was job vacancy information for secretary in mass media and digital media. There were four stages of data analysis in this study. First, organizing and checking data. Second, rechecking data. Third, describing, summarizing, and organizing the coding containing categories that are more specific and distinguished from other categories. Fourth, conducting final analysis in making interpretation and drawing conclusions the research findings. The research discovered that the most needed of hard skill aspects for secretary are English language skill, Ms. Office and computer skill. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis konten dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Pengumpulan data menggunakan dokumentasi dan focus grup discussion. Objek penelitian ini adalah informasi lowongan pekerjaan untuk calon sekretaris di media cetak dan digital. Analisis data penelitian ini menggunakan tahap-tahap sebagai berikut: 1) mengorganisasi data dan memeriksa data dengan cermat, 2) melakukan pemeriksaan ulang terhadap data, 3) mendeskripsikan, meringkas, dan mengorganisasi pengodean yang berisi kategori-kategori yang sudah lebih spesifik dan terbedakan dari kategori lain, 4) melakukan analisis terakhir, membuat interpretasi dan kesimpulan akhir berisi hasil temuan penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) aspek hard skill yang banyak ditemukan untuk calon sekretaris adalah kemampuan bahasa inggris, kemampuan Ms. Office dan keterampilan komputer. (2) aspek soft skill yang banyak ditemukan untuk calon sekretaris adalah keterampilan komunikasi, berpenampilan menarik dan jujur. Kata kunci: Analisis Konten, Keterampilan Pekerja, Sekretaris

AbstractVocabulary is one of the essential elements of English Language Teaching. It is therefore important to ensure that the students are able to obtain sizable vocabulary knowledge during their academic performance. Extensive reading strategy played a major role in that process. Two research problems were proposed in this study. The first is to know the effectiveness of extensive reading strategy in vocabulary class. The second is to discover the significant improvement of English Language Education students’ vocabulary knowledge through extensive reading strategy. In this qualitative study, three research instruments: observation, classroom survey, and focus group discussion were employed. Qualitative content analysis was implemented to draw meanings out of the data gathered. Five major findings were as follows: (a) ELESP students viewed vocabulary as an important element in English language mastery (b) Loved reading extensively (c) Had limited time to read (d) Lose their reading motivation easily (e) Suggested regular checking of vocabulary books.Keywords: vocabulary, extensive reading strategy, qualitative content analysis

There are a lot of foreign novels in Indonesia that are written in English. Indonesians who do not have enough knowledge about the English language need Indonesian translation. Thus, having a translator must be considered when translating a novel, most especially the response of expressive speech acts. This article observes the types of response towards expressive criticizing and apologizing speech acts. It also observes the translation technique used to translate a response of specific expressive speech acts and its quality in terms of accuracy. This research employs descriptive qualitative method with content analysis and Focus Group Discussion (FGD henceforth). Also, content analysis was used to categorize the types of responses. In addition, FGD was used to determine the translation technique and its accuracy. The researcher applied purposive sampling to determine the data. The data are the utterances collected through content analysis. The researcher validated the data through the use of source triangulation and methodological triangulation. The data are limited from the four main characters in the novel. The finding shows that from 57 data, there are 18 types of responses. In addition, there are 14 translation techniques used. Furthermore, the accuracy score is 2.77.

Abstract. Background: Information on methods of suicide is available online, and access to information on methods of suicide appears to contribute to a small but significant proportion of suicides. There is limited documentation of how methods of suicide are being profiled, as well as what content exists in other languages than English. Aim: We aimed to analyze and compare how methods of suicide are profiled on Danish and English-language websites. Method: We applied a categorization and content analysis of websites describing methods of suicide. Sites were retrieved by applying widely used Danish and English-language search terms. Results: A total of 136 English-language websites and 106 Danish-language websites were included for analysis. Websites were more often categorized as prevention or support sites, academic or policy sites, and against suicide sites than dedicated suicide sites (i.e., pro-suicide sites), or information sites. However, information on methods of suicide was available, and 20.1% and 8.9% of the English and Danish-language sites, respectively, suggested that a particular method of suicide was quick, easy, painless, or certain to result in death. Limitations: Only one author coded and analyzed all websites. A further operationalization of the content analysis checklist is warranted to increase reliability. Conclusion: The websites primarily had a prevention or anti-suicide focus, but information on methods of suicide was available, requiring an increased focus on how to diminish the negative effects of harmful online content.

Children's literature serves as a powerful medium through which children construct messages about their roles In society and gender Identity is often central to this construction. Although possessing mental schemas about gender differences is helpful when children organize their ideas of the world around them, problems occur when children are exposed to a constant barrage of uncompromising, gender-schematic sources that lead to stereotyping which in turn represses the full development of the child. This paper focuses on how gender is represented in a selection of Malaysian children's books published in the English language. Relying on the type of content analysis employed by previous feminist social science researchers, I explore this selection of Malaysian children's books for young children and highlight some areas of concern with regard to the construction of maleness and femaleness in these texts. The results reveal Imbalances at various levels Including the distribution of main, supporting and minor characters along gendered lines and the positioning of male and female characters In the visual Illustrations. The stereotyping of these characters In terms of their behavioural traits will be discussed with the aim of drawing attention to the need for us to take concerted measures to provide our children with books that will help them realize their potential to the fullest.

There is evidence to suggest that young children more readily absorb the subtle messages that are encoded in any type of text and talk, and what they take away from these texts contributes in helping them develop their own identity in relation to their role in society. In this paper, we examine the construction of ethnic identity in a selection of English language textbooks targeted at young Malaysian children in primary schools. Based on a content analysis of visual and verbal language in two Primary Three English language textbooks, we report on the encoded messages that are transmitted to young Malaysian children about their place in society. The findings reveal significant imbalances in the way characters of different ethnic backgrounds are represented. This imbalance is a cause for concern as the message conveyed to young Malaysian children could be potentially damaging. Keywords: textbook, ethnicity, identity construction

Abstract Background Pressure ulcers (PUs) affect 2.5 million people in the United States annually and incur health-care costs of 11 billion dollars annually. Stage III/IV PU often require local flap reconstruction. Unfortunately, PU recurrence is common following reconstruction; recurrence rates as high as 82% have been reported. When local flap options are inadequate, free tissue transfer may be indicated but the indications have yet to be delineated. To develop evidence-based guidelines for the use of free flaps in PU reconstruction, we performed a systematic review. Methods A systematic review of the available English-language, peer-reviewed literature was conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE, Google Scholar, Scopus, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Articles were manually reviewed for relevance. Results Out of 272 articles identified, 10 articles were included in the final analysis. Overall, this systematic review suggests that free-flap PU reconstruction yields fewer recurrences compared with local flaps (0–20 vs. 13–82%). Further, several types of free flaps for PU reconstruction were identified in this review, along with their indications. Conclusion Free tissue transfer should be considered for recurrent PU. We offer specific recommendations for their use in PU reconstruction.

Purpose: Conducting meaningful interactions in the target language is essential for language learning. However, in many English language classrooms in China, it is rare that students are provided with such opportunities. In the current study, we presented and critically evaluated the implementation of a small-group discussion approach called Quality Talk (QT) in an eighth-grade English language classroom in China. Design/Approach/Methods: One eighth-grade English teacher and 82 eighth-grade students in a public middle school in Beijing participated in the study using a pretest-posttest, quasi-experimental design. Recordings of teacher coaching sessions and student discussions, researchers’ field notes, and participating teacher’s written reflections were used to identify successful practices and lessons learned with respect to the implementation of QT. Implications for future directions were also discussed. Findings: The results revealed that to successfully implement a discourse-intensive pedagogical approach in a large English language class, it is essential that (a) the materials used for discussion closely align with the school curriculum, (b) students are grouped heterogeneously and scaffolded to engage in discussions both in their native and target languages, and (c) student leadership be leveraged to facilitate discussion in each small group. Originality/Value: The present study delineated the details with respect to implementing a discourse-intensive pedagogical approach in an eighth-grade English classroom in China. We derived several key insights from recontextualizing QT in an English learning, large class context in China. These insights might hold the potential to improve the effectiveness of English teaching and learning in China.

An overview and research agenda While automated methods of content analysis are increasingly popular in today’s communication research, these methods have hardly been adopted by communication scholars studying texts in Dutch. This essay offers an overview of the possibilities and current limitations of automated text analysis approaches in the context of the Dutch language. Particularly in dictionary-based approaches, research is far less prolific as research on the English language. We divide the most common types of content-analytical research questions into three categories: 1) research problems for which automated methods ought to be used, 2) research problems for which automated methods could be used, and 3) research problems for which automated methods (currently) cannot be used. Finally, we give suggestions for the advancement of automated text analysis approaches for Dutch texts. Background/Context Although much research has evaluated children's books for depictions of gender, little has centered on the portrayal of immigrants and social class. This investigation utilizes Bourdieu's theory of capital reproduction in education, Durkheim's conception of collective conscience and morals, and Bowles and Gintis's critique of schooling to evaluate these depictions and to investigate the functions of English language learner (ELL) education. Focus of Study This analysis investigates the representation of immigrants and class in children's books read aloud in ELL classrooms. Research Design Using lists provided by a leading school of education, the investigation uses a content analysis of 50 books often read aloud to ELL students based on five economic and cultural capital indicators. Additionally, the research included a content analysis of the morals presented by these books and by the past 20 Caldecott Medal-winning books. Findings Findings suggest strong differences in class portrayals and morals between ELL classroom and Caldecott Medal-winning books. Additionally, the evidence shows that the ELL books portray various ethnic immigrant groups differently, often supporting popular stereotypes about these ethnicities. Conclusions and Recommendations The study provides possible implications of the findings on the educational and career aspirations of ELL students and suggests that future researchers focus on participant-observation to expand these findings.

This study focused on contributions of tourism to community development in Cross River State, Nigeria. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population used for the study was 357 respondents comprising, 101 community leaders and 256 tourism staff. A 21-item questionnaire and focus group discussion guide were used to elicit information from respondents and discussants. The questionnaire was analyzed using mean and standard deviation, t-test statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance and the FGD was analyzed qualitatively. Findings from the study revealed among others, that tourism attracted banking institutions and communication industries; thus contributed to a high extent in economic development and very high extent in social development of Cross River State, Nigeria. Some recommendation was made based on the research findings.
