Kemampuan belajar mandiri adalah otonomi pembelajar dalam me-ngontrol proses pembelajarannya. Kemampuan belajar mandiri bisa dikem-bangkan dalam proses pembelajaran. Penelitian terdahulu tentang pembel-ajaran pendidikan profesi dokter menyatakan masih adanya hambatan dalam kemampuan belajar mandiri mahasiswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui perbedaan kemampuan belajar mandiri mahasiswa tahap pen-didikan profesi sebelum dan sesudah menjalani pembelajaran di suatu departemen klinik. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observasional de-ngan pendekatan comparative cross sectional. Subjek penelitian adalah maha-siswa pendidikan profesi dokter yang menjalani pendidikan profesi di satu bagian dengan masa pembelajaran 4 minggu, selama Agustus- September 2012, sejumlah 33 orang, dengan teknik purposif sampling. Lokasi peneli-tian di salah satu rumah sakit pendidikan di Surakarta. Instrumen yang digunakan merupakan alih bahasa dan modifikasi kuesioner yang dikem-bangkan oleh Fischer, King dan Tague tahun 2001. Analisis data dilakukan dengan uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan yang sig-nifikan secara statistik antara rerata kemampuan belajar mandiri mahasiswa sebelum (149,6) dan sesudah (151,9) menjalani pembelajaran tahap pendi-dikan profesi di satu bagian pendidikan profesi dokter (p=0,47). Ini berarti tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik antara kemampuan belajar mandiri mahasiswa sebelum dan sesudah menjalani pembelajaran tahap pendidikan profesi di satu departemen. Perlu penelitian lebih lanjut tentang alternatif intervensi yang perlu dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan belajar mandiri mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran profesi dokter. The ability to perform self-directed learning can be developed during the learning process. Previous studies showed potential barriers to perform self-directed learning among medical students. This study aimed to analyse difference of self-directed learning ability among medical students before and after undergoing professional education program in a certain clinical department.This study was an observational study with comparative cross-sectional approach. The subjects were medical students on the professional education program at a certain clinical department at a teaching hospital Surakarta city. Thirty-three students undergoing a 4-week program from August to September 2012, were selected by purposive sampling.  The instrument used from Fischer, King and Tague was further translated into Bahasa Indonesia and validated. Data was analysed using t-test. The study found no statistically significant difference on average self-directed learning ability before (149,6) and after (151,9) following the professional education program at a certain clinical department (p=0,47). More studies are needed particularly to investigate alternatives of interventions to increase self-directed learning ability in the professional phase of medical education.Keywords: self-directed learning, medical professional education, medical students

Self-Directed Learning (SDL) is an important skill that must be achieved by medical students.The aim of this study is to identify the level of self-motivation and SDL readiness in the medicalstudents as well as to identify factors affecting SDL. This is is a mixed method research,involving first-year and clinical year medical students. A quantitative research is conducted bydistributing self-motivation (MSLQ) and SDL questionnaire (SDLRS). A total sampling isapplied to select the respondents. Furthermore, focus group discussion (FGD) on students andtutors/preceptors is carried out. Informants are chosen by purposive sampling method. Thisresearch reveals that most of medical students have a good level of self-motivation but a lowlevel of SDL readiness. Nevertheless, the mean scores of SDL readiness in both groups showsno significant differences. The research also identifies four major factors affecting the SDLreadiness, namely the students’ characteristics, learning process, the role of tutors/preceptorsand supporting facilities for learning. There is no significant difference between SDL readinessof the first-year and clinical year of medical students. Unprepared students’ characteristics,sub-optimal learning process, unsupported role of tutors/preceptors and inadequate learningresources are found to be the mayor factors influencing SDL readiness.Keywords: self-directed learning readiness; self-motivation; problem-based learning

The current study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Self-directed Learning (SDL) process on multimedia competencies of educational technology students at Arak university in Iran. The sample of the study consisted of all educational technology students studying at Arak university. The sample included students who were selected for project courses in the  second semester of academic year 2014-2015. The quasi-experimental research, pre-test, post-test design was used for the study. Before the treatment, the pretest of multimedia competencies was employed, then students in the project course received education through the SDL process. The period lasted for 13 weeks, then the post-test was conducted. For data collection, the researchers prepared a questionnaire of multimedia competencies with three subscales (multimedia instructional design, multimedia production skills, and multimedia production tools). The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by experts in the field of Educational Technology, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient was obtained as a reliability of 0.90. The data were analyzed with independent and paired-samples t-test. The results showed that there was a significant difference between students’ scores in pre-test and post-test; and there was no significant difference between male and female students’ scores on multimedia competencies.Keywords: educational technology, self-directed learning process, multimedia competencies

Abstract Backgroundwe combined anatomy with imaging, transformed the 2D information of various imaging techniques into 3D information, and form the assessment system of real medical imaging cases in order to make up for the deficiencies in the current teaching of the medical imaging technology students. MethodsA total of 460 medical imaging students were selected and randomly divided into two groups. The research group received the teaching of the fusion of the original CT and MR data 3D model and the original image combined with 3D anatomical image. Statistical analysis Academic self-efficacy scale and Self-directed learning ability scale was adopted by self-directed learning evaluation scale between two groups.ResultsCompare the theoretical scores and case analysis scores of the two groups. The scores of the study and control groups were significantly higher than those of the control group.Before the experiment, no significant difference was detected in the self-efficacy of learning ability and learning behavior between the two groups , while after the experiment, these differences between the two groups were statistically significan. Moreover, the learning ability self-efficacy and learning behavior of the two groups of students after the experiment was significantly higher than that before the experiment. The self-efficacy of the learning behavior of the control group was higher after the experiment than that before the experiment, albeit the difference was not statistically significant . ConclusionsThe modern, information-based and humanized experimental teaching mode will be constantly improved under the support of PACS system in order to optimize the medical imaging teaching activities for the development of modern medical education.

Background: The medical college library plays an important role in enhancing theacademic achievements of medical students. In order to improve the quality oflibrary services this study provided an assessment of the impact of the libraryservices on undergraduate medical student learning behavior. Materials and methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive type of study. Thestudy used a self-designed questionnaire. The study sample was 200 undergraduatemedical students. The questionnaire was administered to them at the end of theirlecture class. Results: The primary reason for going to the library was self study (68%) refer text(37%) and group study (36%). Only 38.55% of the respondents visited the library ona daily basis, 50.5% students visit library when necessary and 10.5% student uselibrary 2-3 times a week. All students (100%) are aware about availability of textbooks in the library. 60.5% students know that journals are available in their library,52% know about dictionaries, 56.55% know of having internet, 62.5% students knowthat computers are available in library. 46.5% students said that their internet ofinstitutional library is somewhat helpful. Noise (67.5%), insufficient space (66%),lack of interent access (46%) and lack of computers(44.5%) might have negativeinfluence on the students in library visit. Conclusion :The study suggested that fulfillment of more needs to be done topromote self directed learning. The usage of library, its resources and services needto be increased. Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and test the effects of a nursing information literacy competency education program for undergraduate nursing students.Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects consisted of 42 sophomore undergraduate nursing students who had completed a fundamental nursing course (experimental group: n=21, control group n=21). The nursing information literacy competency education program consisted of 8 steps in 8 sessions, taught over 4 weeks, which was 20 hours in total. Data were collected between January 23 and March 14, 2019 and were analyzed using Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, t-test, paired t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA with SPSS/WIN 23.0.Results: Significant differences were shown between the experimental and control groups regarding nursing information literacy competency (F=91.74, p<.001), problem-solving ability (F=52.43, p<.001), self-directed learning ability (F=36.61, p<.001), and evidence-based practice competency (F=59.66, p<.001).Conclusion: The nursing information literacy competency education program was effective in improving the nursing information literacy competency, problem-solving ability, self-directed learning ability, and evidence-based practice competency of nursing students. Hence, we recommend the nursing information literacy education program will be included as an independent course in the nursing curriculum for undergraduate nursing students to promote a needed proficiency in nursing information literacy competency.

Objectives: Evaluate perception and barriers of practice of Evidence basedMedicine of first and third year medical students of Jinnah Medical and Dental College Karachi.Study Design: Descriptive, cross sectional. Setting: Department of Medicine, Jinnah Medical andDental College Karachi. Period: Dec 2013 to Oct 2014. Subjects & Methods: Of 100 students,response rate was 71% in each year, first year males were n=20 (28.2%) females n=51 (71.8%)in third year males were n=17 (23. 9%) and females n=54 (76.1%). A student based medicineEBM curriculum was imparted to the first and third year medical students in each of 2 semestersof 18 and 16 weeks duration. A Questionnaire based on Likert scale comprising of 10 questionswas filled out at the end of the course of the first and third years during October 2014. Result:Response rate was 71%, on Likert scale 4 and 5 First year students interest in EBM Classeswas n=61(89.5%) as compared to n=36(50.8%) in third year students. Importance of stepsof EBM for practicing clinical medicine was appreciated by n=60(84.5%) of first year studentsversus 47(66.2 %) in third year students. EBM course helped in understanding importance ofarticles in practice of medicine articles in n=44(61.9%) of first year students as compared to39(54.9%) of third years. Barriers perceived were practice of EBM in the institution was lackingas reported by n=35(49.3%) of first year students and n=47(66.2%) in third year students, alonger duration of course was desired by n=41(57.8%) of first year students the respondentsagreed versus=35(49.3%) of third years, and the course was considered more theoretical thanpractical n=35(48.3. %)by first years and n=48(67.6%) by third year students, p values were notsignificant. Conclusion: More Pre-clinical as compared to clinical medical students recognizedEBM as an important component of undergraduate education. This positive attitude needs tobe nurtured for self-directed learning as is evident in their realization of articles being importantfor clinical practice. The declining interest is due to EBM not being an examination subject,lack of practice of EBM in the institution, and poor electronic resources and lack of vision of theinstitution to embed EBM in the curriculum in to sustain interest as students moved to higherlevels and will remain a barrier till senior faculty give way to innovations in the field of medicaleducation.

Background: This study investigated the correlation between depression, anxiety, and stress among college students engaged in online learning during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and self-directed learning (SDL) ability, which could provide a scientific basis for mental health education of the college students.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 5,558 students from two universities in Anhui province, East China. The Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) and the Self-directed Learning Ability Scale were used to conduct an online questionnaire survey.Results: A total of 35.15, 36.32, and 17.24% of college students reported symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress, respectively. Males and nonmedical students were at higher risks to suffer from depression, anxiety, and stress. In adjusted model, compared with Q1 of self-management ability, the odds ratio (OR) of the Q2, Q3, and Q4 were as follows: 0.635 (0.531–0.759), 0.504 (0.415–0.611), and 0.312 (0.248–0.392) for depression; 0.639 (0.535–0.764), 0.653 (0.540–0.789), and 0.421 (0.338–0.525) for anxiety; and 0.649 (0.523–0.805), 0.579 (0.457–0.733), and 0.482 (0.364–0.637) for stress. For information capability, decrease in risk was even more pronounced: Q2 (0.654, 0.540–0.794), Q3 (0.560, 0.454–0.690), and Q4 (0.233, 0.181–0.301) for depression; Q2 (0.781, 0.646–0.945), Q3 (0.616, 0.501–0.757), and Q4 (0.276, 0.216–0.353) for anxiety; and Q2 (0.444, 0.357–0.553), Q3 (0.454, 0.357–0.578), and Q4 (0.272, 0.202–0.368) for stress. Compared with the Q2 group of cooperation learning ability, cooperation learning ability quartiles were positively associated with depression (Q1: 1.382, 95% CI: 1.138–1.678), anxiety (Q4: 1.260, 95% CI: 1.008–1.576), and stress (Q1: 2.002, 95% CI: 1.583–2.532; Q3: 1.600, 95% CI: 1.252–2.044; Q4: 1.674, 95% CI: 1.243–2.255).Conclusion: The prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress among college students was high for those studying online at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially among nonmedical students and males. SDL ability was negatively associated with negative emotions of the college students during this period of online learning.

Background: Self-directed learning (SDL) has been identified as an important skill for medical graduates. To meet the challenges in today's healthcare environment, self-directed learning is most essential. Readiness for SDL is the degree to which an individual possesses attitudes and abilities necessary for SDL. The present study was taken to assess the self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) among 4th semester medical students in a tertiary care teaching hospital. The objectives of the study were to assess the self-directed learning readiness among 4th semester undergraduate medical students of Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam using SDLR instrument; to find out the association if any between readiness for SDL and students’ demographic characteristics.Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among 4th semester undergraduate medical students of Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh in the month of June 2016 to assess the self-directed learning readiness, using Fishers’40–item self-directed learning readiness scale (SDLRS) which contains 3 domains. The student’s response was collected in a 5‑point Likert scale. The readiness for SDL was categorized as high (>150 scores) and low (<150).Results: The mean SDLRS score was 145.17±18.181 with 105 (64%) students scoring <150 indicating low readiness. The mean sores in the 3 domains of self-management (SM), desire for learning (DL), self-control (SC) were 43.81±7.134, 45.88±6.916, and 55.26±8.296 respectively.Conclusions: Self-directed learning readiness appeared to be low among medical students. This study points out the need to address SDL skills among medical students, and need to find ways to build SDL skills among them.

Abstract Background We combined anatomy with imaging, transformed the 2D information of various imaging techniques into 3D information, and form the assessment system of real medical imaging cases in order to make up for the deficiencies in the current teaching of the medical imaging technology students. The research group received the teaching of the fusion of the original CT and MR data 3D model and the original image combined with 3D anatomical image. CT and MRI data are imported through load DICOM of 3D slicer. Different tissues and organs are segmented by threshold and watershed algorithm of segment editor module. Models are exported through export / import models and label maps in segmentation. Save the NHDR file of the original data and Obj file of the corresponding model through save the NHDR and corresponding Obj files are loaded into probe 1.0 software. The software can give different colors to the three-dimensional models of different organs or tissues to display the stereo models and related data, and display the hook edges of organ models on coronal, sagittal and axial images. At the same time, annotation can be established in the corresponding anatomical position. Finally, it can be saved as a single file of Hwl, and the teaching can be opened at any time through the program of probe 1.0.
