The therapeutic efficacy of methylergometrine and PGF2α on uterine involution and postpartum fertility was studied in 18 (6/group) Gir cows. Animals of groups I and II were treated with single i/m injection of PGF2α and Methylergometrine immediately after parturition, respectively, while group-III served as untreated control. The time required for expulsion of fetal membranes was shorter in group-I (2.55 ± 0.60 hours) than in group II (3.03 ± 0.34 hours) and group III (4.10 ± 0.36 hours) but did not differ statistically. Time taken for completion of uterine involution was significantly (p Less than 0.05) shorter in group I (28.67±1.12 days) than that of group II (35.83 ± 1.49 days) and group-III (41.00±1.46 days). The intervals for first estrus postpartum and service period were also significantly (p Less than 0.01) shorter for group I (37.83 ± 1.10 and 89.50 ± 4.34 days) than in group-II (46.17 ± 1.40 and 108.33 ± 4.91 days) and group-III (50.83 ± 1.11 and 118.33 ± 4.40 days, respectively). The number of services per conception was non-significantly lower in group I (1.17 ± 0.17) as compared to group II (1.50 ± 0.34) and controlled group III (1.67±0.33). The conception rate was 100% in group I and 83.33 % each in group II and III. Thus, it can be concluded that use of PGF2α immediately after parturition in Gir cows enhanced the process of placental separation, hastened the uterine involution, decreased the service period, increased the conception rate and thereby reduce the calving interval to the profitable ambiance as compared to Methylergometrine and control groups.

Background: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) can provide more improved images of renal blood flow and much more information of both macro- and microcirculation of the kidney as comparing to Doppler US. Objective: To investigate the usefulness of CEUS by analyzing differences in perfusion-related parameters among the three chronic kidney disease (CKD) subgroups and the control group. Methods: Thirty-eight patients with CKD and 21 controls who were age matched (20−49 years) and included. Included CKD patients were stratified into three groups according to their eGFR: group I, eGFR ≥ 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 (GFR category I and II); group II, 30 ml/min/1.73 m2 ≤ eGFR < 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 (GFR category III); and group III, eGFR < 30 ml/min/1.73 m2 (GFR category IV and V). Comparisons with the controls (eGFR > 90 ml/min/1.73 m2 ) were performed. Real-time and dynamic renal cortex imaging was performed using CEUS. Time-intensity curves and several bolus model quantitative perfusion parameters were created using the VueBox® quantification software. We compared the parameters among the CKD subgroups and between the CKD and control groups. Results: Eight patients were included in group I, 12 patients in group II, and 18 patients in group III. Significant differences were noted in the wash-in and wash-out rates between the CKD and control groups (p = 0.027 and p = 0.018, respectively), but not between those of the CKD subgroups. There were no significant differences of other perfusion parameters among the CKD subgroups and between the CKD and control groups. Conclusion: A few perfusion related CEUS parameters (WiR and WoR) can be used as markers of renal microvascular perfusion relating renal function. CEUS can effectively and quantitatively exhibit the renal microvascular perfusion in patients with CKD as well as normal control participants.

This study was undertaken on 36 freshly calved cows randomly divided into 6 equal groups under field conditions. Cows of group-VI that shed placenta within 8-12 hours postpartum naturally served as healthy control. The cows with retained fetal membranes (RFM, n = 18) for more than 12 hrs were managed either by manual removal of placenta without antibiotics (group-I), parenteral antibiotic (Ceftiofur 1 g i/m) for three consecutive days (group-II) or a combination of both (group-III). In group-IV and group-V, cows were administered with Inj. Oxytocin @ 50 IU i/m and Inj. Dinoprost tromethamine (PGF2α) @ 25 mg i/m, respectively, immediately after parturition and time of placental shedding was recorded. The overall prevalence of Brucellosis by RBPT was found to be 5.55 % amongst these 36 animals. The placental expulsion in groups following medicinal treatment was found to be 50 (3/6) % in Ceftiofur alone by 3 days (group-II), and 66.67 (4/6) % in Oxytocin (group-IV) and 100 (6/6) % in PGF2α inj. (group-V) groups within 12 hrs. The time of uterine involution in groups I to VI was found to be 42.00 ± 1.94, 39.50 ± 0.99, 40.67 ± 1.39, 38.33 ± 1.55, 37.50 ± 1.02 and 37.33 ± 1.76 days, respectively, while the interval for the appearance of first postpartum estrus was 54.83 ± 2.06, 51.00 ± 1.05, 52.17 ± 1.96, 50.17 ± 2.03, 48.67 ± 1.90 and 49.17 ± 1.55 days, respectively, which did not vary statistically. The mean serum progesterone profile obtained on day 0 and day 21 postpartum was statistically non-significant between groups. However, it was significantly (p less than 0.05) lower on day 0 as compared to day 21 in group-I, II and VI. The levels on day 0 coincided with the time of blood sampling after calving. The high level of serum P4 on day 0 in group-IV and V could be due to sampling immediately after calving. The serum calcium and phosphorus levels were significantly(p less than 0.05) lower on day 0 than on day 21, but not the magnesium. The group effect was however non-significant for any of three minerals. It was observed that manual removal of RFM without parenteral antibiotics, resulted in puerperal metritis, cervicitis, pyometra which ultimately resulted into delayed uterine involution, delayed first postpartum estrus and thus, reduced the postpartum reproductive efficiency. It was inferred that the PGF2α and Oxytocin injections could be used as a treatment of choice for prevention of RFMs in cattle.

The present study was conducted to investigate the efficacy of Ovsynch and Ovsynch plus protocol in postpartum (day 60) Sahiwal cows (n=18). Animals were randomly divided into three equal groups, viz., Ovsynch group Ovsynch plus group and Control group. Animals of group I (n = 6) were treated with traditional Ovsynch protocol. The animals (n = 6) of group II were treated with Ovsynch plus protocol which consisted of an initial intramuscular injection of eCG (Folligon) @ 250 IU on day 60 postpartum followed 3 days later by GPG (Ovsynch) protocol. In group-III Control, no treatment was given to animals (n = 6). Treated animals were inseminated at a fixed time between 14 and 20 hrs after second GnRH injection, irrespective of estrus detection. Blood samples were collected from each animal on days 50 and 60 postpartum to determine the status of cyclicity in animals based on serum concentrations of progesterone (P4). A third blood sample was collected on the day of prostaglandin treatment to determine the response of first GnRH injection. Four animals each were cyclic, and two were acyclic in both treatment groups. Four animals each responded to first GnRH treatment in both treatment groups. Similarly, two animals each got conceived giving conception rate of 50% (2/4) in each treatment. In the control group, one out of 6 animals got conceived yielding 16.66 % conception rate (1/6) during the study period. It may be thus concluded that Ovsynch and Ovsynch plus protocol may be used during the early postpartum period to improve the reproductive efficiency in postpartum Sahiwal cows.

The serum progesterone and estradiol profiles during synchronization of estrus by buck effect and PGF2α treatments were monitored in Surti does. Total eighteen non-pregnant does selected were evenly divided into 3 groups, 6 does in each group. The does of Group I were teased with a sexuallyactive- apronized buck; and those of Group II were treated with PGF2α, i.e., Inj. Lutalyse® @ 7.5 mg/doe IM twice 11 days apart, while the Group III served as untreated control. Blood samples were collected from all the animals on day 0 (before 1st PGF2α injection), 3rd day (during treatment), 11th day (before 2nd PGF2α injection), 14th day (after treatment) and 40th day (post-service) by jugular vein puncture. The serum separated was stored at -20°C till further analysis. In all the three groups, 83.33% does, conceived at first service in the sampling cycle. The overall mean serum progesterone concentration of Group I does (5.82±0.72 ng/ml) was significantly higher (p less than 0.01) as compared to Group II (2.93±0.38 ng/ml) and III (2.88±0.30 ng/ml). Similarly, the overall mean serum progesterone concentration of Surti does on day 0 (2.65±0.46 ng/ml), 3rd (2.56±0.80 ng/ml), 11th (4.45±0.84 ng/ml) and 14th (3.40±0.63 ng/ml) did not differ significantly, but the overall mean level at day 40 (6.31±0.45 ng/ml) was significantly (p less than 0.01) higher, because most of animals became pregnant at that time. The overall mean serum oestradiol-17β levels of Group I (24.40±2.98 pg/ ml) was significantly higher (p less than 0.01) than in Group II (15.77±1.77 pg/ml) and III (12.21±1.45 pg/ ml). On the other hand, the overall mean serum oestradiol-17β levels of Surti does on day 0 (12.89±1.21 pg/ml), 3rd (15.84±1.74 pg/ml), 11th (14.81±1.96 pg/ml), 14th (22.15±2.97 pg/ml) and 40th (21.64±5.16 pg/ml) did not differ significantly (p>0.05) and the slightly higher overall mean level found at 40th day might be the influence of the non-pregnant does at first service in the cumulative animals. The hormonal profile reflected the initiation of cyclicity and establishment of pregnancy in treated and control animals.

Mortality rate among patients with AS is 2 times higher the population level. It is caused by cardiovascular disease. Now it is clear that the presence of chronic systemic inflammation is an important predictor of cardiovascular (CV) disease due to the development of endothelial dysfunction (ED).The aim of the study – to evaluate the efficacy of correction of ED in patients with AS and arterial hypertension with the use of quinapril and L-arginine aspartate.Materials and Methods. A total of 110 patients with AS were examined with evaluation endothelium-depended vasodilation (EDVD) in response to reactive hyperemia, were chosen patients with EDVD <10 % (n=79), and were divided into 4 groups. Group I included 17 people who received standard therapy. Patients from the group II (n=20) received intravenous infusion of the solution of L-Arginine. Group III included patients with concomitant hypertension and they received quinapril (n=19). Group IV (n=23) consist of patients with hypertension, but their treatment was combination of L-arginine with quinapril. Results and Discussion. It was found that in the group II there was a significant improvement in the endothelium’s function (EDVD (23.2±2.4) % (p=0.0023), and its normalization were in 7 patients. In patients of the third group, who received only quinapril were not found normalization of EDVD in any of the patients. In last group (IV) 7 patients showed normalization of the endothelium, 10 improvements compared with baseline levels, and 6 no changes were observed.Conclusions. L-arginine in the complex therapy of patients with AC can significantly reduce the manifestations of ED in patients without concomitant hypertension. Combined use of quinapril in combination with L-arginine demonstrated improvement of endothelial function and control of blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
