Secondary school principals play a key role in decision-making leading to students’ academic performance. There was a decline in the percentage of the examination candidates from Kakamega County who were selected to join public universities from the year 2011 to 2015. This study intended to establish the relationship between students’ involvement in decision-making by principals and academic performance. Respondents were sampled by simple random sampling. Pre-testing of instruments of data collection was undertaken to ensure validity and reliability of the instruments. Data was collected from 36 principals, 199 teachers and 393 Form 4 students by use of questionnaire and interview schedule. Research experts determined validity of the instruments. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequencies, percentages, means, cross tabulation and Pearson’s correlation. Hypotheses were tested through regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. Regression analysis revealed that students’ involvement in decision-making explained 24.6%, and of the variation in academic performance. Leadership functions such as students allowed to elect prefects, prefects attending staff/BoM meetings. It was recommended that principals should involve students in decision making. This study would be significant to policy makers, principals, teachers and other education stakeholders in Kenya. The study would also form baseline information for future research.

The paper was a pilot study that examined learning approaches of architecture students; variability of approaches by university type and gender and; influence of architecture students’ learning approaches on their academic performance. The sample was 349 architecture students from two universities. Descriptive and statistical analyses were used. Results revealed predominant use of deep learning approaches by students. Furthermore, learning approaches neither significantly differed by university type nor gender. Regression analysis revealed that demographic factors accounted for 2.9% of variation in academic performance (F (2,346) = 6.2, p = 0.002, R2 = 0.029, f2 = 0.029) and when learning approaches were also entered the model accounted for 4.4% of variation in academic performance (F (14,334) =2.2, p =0.009, R2 = 0.044, f2=0.044). Deep learning approaches significantly and positively influenced variation in academic performance while surface learning approaches significantly and negatively influenced academic performance. This implies that architectural educators should use instructional methods that encourage deep approaches. Future research needs to use larger and more heterogeneous samples for confirmation of results.

The study investigated the influence of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation on pupils’ academic performance in mathematics. Based on the purpose of the study two hypotheses guided the study. The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of all 3056 primary six pupils in Owerri Education zone of Imo State.  A Sample size of 200 primary six pupils was selected for the study.   Simple random sampling technique was used in selecting four schools out of the nine schools. The instruments used for data collection was Academic Motivation Scale and Mathematics Achievement Test. The validity was determined by two experts in measurement and evaluation and one expert in mathematics education. The instruments have reliability coefficient of 0.89 and 0.92 determined using tests-retest method. Data generated were analyzed with the aid SPSS version.  Inferential statistics of t-test and Pearson product moment correlation were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study concludes that motivation improves academic performance of the pupils and there is a gender difference in motivation type and academic performance.

The study investigated the influence of learners’ participation in athletic activitieson academic performance of students in secondary school Uasin Gishu County. The study was grounded on Astin’s theory of involvement, whichasserts that students learn more when they are involved in both academic and social aspects of the collegiate experience. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative research process with a target population being students and teachers of Uasin Gishu County. Sample of 378 was calculated with aid Krecie & Morgan sample table and sample was arrived at through stratified sampling on secondary schools and simple random sampling on selected secondary schools whose students were picked without bias. Tools for data collection included questionnaire, in-depth interview and review of literature. The tools were calibrated on validity and reliability through expert check and Chronbach’s Alpha Coefficient, which was 0.76, which was fair enough for utility of the questionnaires.The achieved data was analyzed based on confidence level of 95%and person correlation coefficient and using descriptive statisticsthat included frequencies, standard deviation and mean. The analysis was carried out with help of SPSS program. The finding indicated that participation in athletic activities has potential to positively influence students’ academic performance (R=0.632; p<0.05). Athletics participationstimulates fine and gross motor growth, learner concentration and cognitive development. The finding suggests that schools need to create a conducive environment for participation in athletics and encourage the students to participate in order to enhance their performance.

Introduction: The CB of clinical nursing students is very important but they are still in the implementation phase of the theory from when it was learned in college. This study aims to describe the correlation between intelligence quotient (IQ), emotional intelligence (EI) and spiritual intelligence (SI) with caring behavior (CB).Methods: This study was descriptive and correlational with a cross-sectional approach. The respondents of this research were all of the clinical nursing students (166 respondents) via the simple random sampling technique. The data was collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Spearman-rho test with a level of significance ≤ 0.05.Results: The results showed that CB had a correlation with IQ (p=0.019, r=0.211), EI (p=0.048, r=0.178) and SI (p=0.000, r=0.456).Conclusion: IQ, EI, and SI have a correlation with CB. A higher quotient will produce a higher CB. Future research is expected to be able to analyze the other factors related to CB among clinical nursing students.

Specifically, the purpose of this study is: (1) to test the validity and reliability of the measurement model of Fisher's spiritual well-being (SWB) construct (2010); (2) to test the validity and reliability of the measurement model of Forsyth’s ethical orientation of decision-making (EDM) construct (1980), and (3) to examine the correlation of Fisher’s SWB variables with Forsyth’s EDM variables (1980). Testing instruments or measurement models  uses confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach Alpha's reliability and testing correlation uses Perlson's correlation. The data is processed with SPSS version 22. The results of this study showed that: (1) the measurment model of Fisher’s  SWB construct is valid and reliable; (2) the measurment model of Forsyth’s EDM construct is also valid and reliable. It is also concluded that there is a positive and significant correlation between ideal spiritual well-being (ISWB) construct, either in whole (ISWB) and each dimension (ICSWB, IPSWB, ITSWB, IESWB) with ideal ethical orientation of decision-making (IEDM). There is also a positive and significant relationship between lived spiritual well-being (LSWB) construct as a whole with  relative ethical orientation of decision-making (REDM). In testing the correlation of each dimension of LSWB construct (LCSWB, LPSWB, LTSWB, LESWB) with  REDM construct, despite all the dimensions of LSWB shows positive correlations  with REDM, but the level of significance of the association varies.

Galápagos is one of the most pristine archipelagos in the world and its conservation relies upon research and sensible management. In recent decades both the interest in, and the needs of, the islands have increased, yet the funds and capacity for necessary research have remained limited. It has become, therefore, increasingly important to identify areas of priority research to assist decision-making in Galápagos conservation. This study identified 50 questions considered priorities for future research and management. The exercise involved the collaboration of policy makers, practitioners and researchers from more than 30 different organisations. Initially, 360 people were consulted to generate 781 questions. An established process of preworkshop voting and three rounds to reduce and reword the questions, followed by a two-day workshop, was used to produce the final 50 questions. The most common issues raised by this list of questions were human population growth, climate change and the impact of invasive alien species. These results have already been used by a range of organisations and politicians and are expected to provide the basis for future research on the islands so that its sustainability may be enhanced.

This study investigated the Influence of Home on the Academic Performance of Students in Afe Babalola University International Secondary School, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The population of the study comprised all the students in ABUAD International secondary school, Ado Ekiti. A total of 90 (ninety) students selected from the secondary school constituted the sample of the study. The students were selected using stratified and simple random sampling techniques. Two instruments were used to elicit relevant information from the students. The first instrument was a self-designed questionnaire titled “Home Characteristics and Parent Involvement Questionnaire” (HCPQ). The HCPQ has two parts. Face and content validity of the HIPQ was ascertained by experts in educational management, test and measurement. The reliability of the instrument was ensured, and it stood at 0.79. The second instrument was an inventory titled Students’ Academic Performance Inventory (SAPI). The SAPI was used to collect the students’ academic performance in internal examinations. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Research questions were answered with frequency count, percentage scores, mean and standard deviation. The hypotheses were tested with inferential statistics such as Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) and Multiple Regression analysis. All hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that the level of students’ academic performance was moderate during the period of investigation. It also revealed that the level of parents’ involvement in the academic progress of the students was moderate. The study concluded by recommending that parents should involve themselves more in the academic progress of their children or wards in order to enhance academic prowess in all ramifications.

Research suggests that gaming can play an important role in dealing with life difficulties, but few studies have examined this directly. Building on recent research, the current study set out to develop a measure of gaming in difficult life situations (GDLS) and explored the role of emotion regulation and coping self-efficacy as predictors of this behaviour. A total of 667 gamers completed the online survey. Initial analyses demonstrated validity and reliability of the GDLS scale (α = .92), with players turning to gaming as a distraction from life difficulties, to feel a sense of achievement, to connect with others, and for in-game connection and simulation. Multiple regression analysis showed that younger age, more time spent gaming in general, and lower coping self-efficacy predicted GDLS, but emotion regulation was non-significant. The study presents novel insights and a new measure for future research in this area.

Objective: The main objective of this article is to evaluate and describe instruments for assessing decision-making capacity in psychiatry and psychogeriatrics, and to evaluate them for use in daily practice.Methods: The instruments were selected in Medline articles. We focus on the relationship between these instruments and the concept of competence, represented in the following elements: context in which an instrument is developed, disclosure of information, standards to assess decision-making capacity, the scale or threshold model, and validity and reliability.Results: The developmental context influences how information is provided and standards defined. Although it is not clear how decision-making capacity relates to competency judgments, most instruments provide good reliability.Conclusions: Comparison of the different instruments opens directions for future research. Although instruments can never replace a physician's judgment, they may provide a clear starting point for a discussion on competence. In daily practice assessments, attention should be given to information disclosure, the influence of our own normative values in evaluating standards of decision-making capacity, and the relation between decision-making capacity and competence.

This study aimed to fi nd out factors that infl uencing costumers loyalty about murabahah fi nancing at Bank Pembiayaan Rakyat Syariah Adeco Langsa and to determine the effects partialy and silmutanously to murabahah fi ancing costumers loyalty. There are factors that infl uencing murabahah fi nancing costumers loyalty including the infl uence of service factors, facility factors, and location factors. This study used the quantitative approach. The total of respondent are 80 costumers. Sampling this study was carried through probability sampling and simple random sampling , rarely the technique of determining to selected sample without regard to the levels in the population. This study used quesioners as many as 20 items questions that were assesed with a likert 1-5 scale and used validity and reliability test. The test of assumptions were, tests of multicollinearity, heteroscedastisitas, normality, linearity then analyzed using multiple regression analysis with the determination test method F test and t test. Base on multiple regression analysis at 5% signifi cance level show that simultaneously service factors, facility factors, and location factors have signifi cant positive effect to murabahah fi nancing costumers loyalty at Bank Pembiayaan Rakyat Syariah Adeco Langsa, and then there are signifi cant positive effect of the facility factors to murabahah fi nancing costumer loyalty and the location also has a signifi cant positive infl uence on murabahah fi nancing costumer loyalty at Bank Pembiayaan Rakyat Syariah Adeco Langsa, facility factor have the most dominant infl uence on murabahah fi nancing costumer loyalty at Bank Pembiayaan Rakyat Syariah Adeco Langsa, with a signifi cance of 0,000 less than 0,05.
