Decision-making processes increasingly use models based on various methods to ensure professional analysis and evaluation of the considered alternatives. However, the abundance of these methods makes it difficult to choose the proper method to solve a given problem. Also, it is worth noting whether different results can be obtained using different methods within a single decision problem. In this paper, we used three selected Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods called COMET, TOPSIS, and SPOTIS in order to examine how the obtained rankings vary. The selection of material suppliers was taken into consideration. The equal weights, entropy and standard deviation methods were used to determine the weights for criteria. Final preferences values were then compared with the WS similarity coefficient and weighted Spearman correlation coefficient to check the similarity of the received rankings. It was noticed that in the given problem, all of the methods provide highly correlated results, and the obtained positional rankings are not significantly different. However, practical conclusions indicate the need to look for improved solutions in the correct and accurate assessment of suppliers in a given period.

Abstract Businesses establish supply chains in order to continue their activities. Choosing the suppliers to take part in these supply chains poses many challenges in rapidly changing conditions. Environmental concerns in the public, competitive market structures, and developing technological opportunities affect the decision-making processes. Different criteria are taken into consideration instead of traditional criteria such as cost and service. In this study, green, agile, and Industry 4.0 dimensions and the criteria under these dimensions are defined. According to these, the problem of selecting the supplier that responds to the expectations of the markets and enables them to increase their competitiveness was discussed. Fuzzy SWARA and fuzzy BMW methods were applied in an integrated way to solve the supplier selection problem under these three dimensions. A real case study was also presented. In the study, the results obtained by creating different scenarios were compared and sensitivity analysis was made. The results obtained show that the hybrid method developed in this study is effective in supplier selection problems. As a result of the study, the most important evaluation dimension is "agile" and the most important criterion is "delivery speed".

Currently, companies are required to improve supply chain performance. One of the main problems in the supply chain is the proper supplier selection. Supplier selection has an essential role in improving supply chain management performance. Supplier selection requires the proper criteria. However, the relationship between criteria is rarely considered in the selection of suppliers in the textile industry. This study tries to propose integrating the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) and the Analytic Network Process (ANP) for supplier selection in the textile industry. Both methods are multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) tools DEMATEL is used to assess the relationship between criteria. Furthermore, ANP is used to evaluate and weigh the importance of criteria and suppliers. A case study was carried out in a textile company located in Indonesia. The results show that this procedure can identify the relationship and effect of each criterion. The results show that the product price criteria are the criteria that have the most significant weight. The criteria for conformity to specifications and consistency of quality are in second and third place. Finally, suppliers are selected based on weight assessment on each criterion by ANP.

In the process of supplier selection for green supply chain management, uncertain information may appear in alternatives’ performances or experts’ preferences. The stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis (SMAA) is a beneficial technique to tackling the uncertain information in such a problem and the MULTIMOORA is a robust technique to aggregate alternatives’ utilities. This study dedicates to proposing an SMAA-MULTIMOORA method by considering the advantages of both methods. The integrated method can accept uncertain information as inputs. The steps of the SMAA-MULTIMOORA are illustrated. A case study about the selection of green suppliers is given to show the validity and robustness of the SMAA-MULTIMOORA method.

Often, in an enterprise engineering (EE) project, it is quite difficult to figure out what exactly needs to be done due to the rather generic (and often proprietary) character of the EE methods available. In addition, selecting appropriate elements from the multitude of available and emerging architecture frameworks (AFs) in order to model and manage the given EE undertaking is a non-trivial task. This chapter proposes a way to assist the inference of processes and to facilitate the selection and use of AF elements needed to accomplish EE projects. This is accomplished by assessing and organising AF elements into a structured repository (SR) using a generalised architecture framework (ISO15704:2000 Annex A) and by providing a “method to create methods” (a meta-methodology) for specific EE tasks that also guides the selection of AF elements from the SR. A brief introduction outlining the previously mentioned EE problems is followed by the description of the meta-methodology principle and of the assessment reference used. Next, a case study presents a sample application of the meta-methodology for a real EE project. The chapter closes with conclusions on the presented approach and a description of further work to refine and enrich the meta-methodology.

Owing to the heterogeneity and inherent uncertainty of services, the selection of service suppliers is a complicated multi-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) problem in which fuzzy criteria and stochastic criteria coexist. During the past few decades, many real-world supplier selection problems have been resolved using MAGDM methods. Nevertheless, extant research on supplier selection considers either fuzzy criteria or stochastic criteria, and hence most of these methods cannot address the complex and unstructured nature of contemporary service supplier selection problems. In this study, a novel technique for order preference by similarity to the ideal solution (TOPSIS) approach, integrating both fuzzy criteria and stochastic criteria, is developed; in this approach, the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) cross-entropy for fuzzy criteria and the Euclidean distance for stochastic criteria are used to acquire the rankings of alternatives. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis is conducted for a case study of hoisting service supplier selection, and a comparative analysis with other existing methods is performed to confirm the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach.

Supplier selection is a practical problem in supply chain management and quality is the most important criterion in supplier selection. In this study, we developed a supplier selection model based on process quality, in which the Six Sigma quality index [Formula: see text] is used as a tool to assess the process quality provided by suppliers. Note that index estimation based on sample data is prone to uncertainty in the assessment of process quality. Therefore, we derived the confidence interval of [Formula: see text] via mathematical programming to reduce the likelihood of assessment miscalculations, and then used this interval to perform a pairwise comparison of suppliers. Our goal was to identify criteria that can be used to select the optimal suppliers for long-term collaborations and sustainable partnerships. A case study is also presented to demonstrate the practical implementation of the proposed method.

Intermodal transport enables energy, costs and time savings, improves the service quality and supports sustainable development. The basic element of the intermodal transport system is an intermodal terminal, whose efficiency largely depends on the subsystems’ technologies. Accordingly, the topic of this paper is the evaluation and the selection of the appropriate handling equipment within the intermodal terminal. As the decision-making on the handling equipment is influenced by different economic, technical, technological and other criteria, the appropriate multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods have to be applied in order to solve the problem. In this paper, a novel hybrid model which combines the fuzzy step-wise weight assessment ratio analysis (FSWARA) and the fuzzy best-worst method (FBWM) is developed. The defined model is applied for solving the case study of selecting adequate handling equipment for the planned intermodal terminal in Belgrade. The reach stacker is selected as the most adequate handling equipment since it suits best the characteristics of the planned terminal in the given conditions and in relation to the defined criteria. Solving the case study demonstrated the justification for using the MCDM methods to solve these kinds of problems as well as the applicability of the proposed MCDM model.

The need to optimize the deployment and maintenance costs for service delivery in wireless networks is an essential task for each service provider. The goal of this paper was to optimize the number of service centres (gNodeB) to cover selected customer locations based on the given requirements. This optimization need is especially emerging in emerging 5G and beyond cellular systems that are characterized by a large number of simultaneously connected devices, which is typically difficult to handle by the existing wireless systems. Currently, the network infrastructure planning tools used in the industry include Atoll Radio Planning Tool, RadioPlanner and others. These tools do not provide an automatic selection of a deployment position for specific gNodeB nodes in a given area with defined requirements. To design a network with those tools, a great deal of manual tasks that could be reduced by more sophisticated solutions are required. For that reason, our goal here and our main contribution of this paper were the development of new mathematical models that fit the currently emerging scenarios of wireless network deployment and maintenance. Next, we also provide the design and implementation of a verification methodology for these models through provided simulations. For the performance evaluation of the models, we utilize test datasets and discuss a case study scenario from a selected district in Central Europe.
