This essay explains how La hija de Rappaccini, Octavio Paz’s only play, displays the different aspects of the Mexican author’s poetics which are theoretically explored and exemplified in works such as El arco y la lira, Las peras del olmo as well as Los hijos del limo. In fact, in his rewriting of a short story by Nathaniel Hawthorne —who, on his part, was inspired by diverse European and Asiatic traditions—, the author’s surrealistic core is evident in the construction of spaces pertaining to diverse levels of conscience. Thus, three spaces overlap, a "real" one, an illusory one, and an "intermediate" one. The intermediate space acts like an interface between the other two spaces; it works as a bridge that can only be crossed by Juan, who, in spite of belonging to the space of reality, manages to enter the illusory or inner one, for love. The rules that govern both universes and the life of the characters that shape them are opposed. The love theme works as a vehicle for the reflection about the coincidence between microcosm (the illusory space) and macrocosm (the real space), a recurring theme in the work of Octavio Paz.

<p>Women and emancipation are two things that can not be separated, both are like two sides  of the same coin. One form of women's emancipation is a freedom of determining a spouse. This research aims to describe the several forms of women's freedom of determining a spouse in short story of Kahlil Gibran entitled Wardah Al Hānī based on literary sociology theory of Rene Wellek and Austin Warren. The methodology used to realize that aim is descriptive qualitative. The results reveal that women's freedom of determining a spouse is divided into two perspectives, one relates to the opinion of the character in a story and other determined by his behaviors. In the first side, the character has an opinion that the real happiness in the life only can be brought by love. So, she must choose the man she loved. And in another side, the women's freedom is shown by the way she left her legal husband and went to the other beloved man to make her happiness life.</p><p> </p>

This article investigates the hermeneutic position of one text in relation to another one. More precisely, it is the case when one of the texts clarifies the meaning of another, amplifies the emphases of the other text, raises it to a higher power. A literary work with such explanatory intention is designated in the article with the term “semantic amplifier”. Its action is demonstrated by an analysis of two literary works of Dostoevsky: the novel “The Idiot” and the long short story “The Meek One”. The term “dissipative motif network” is introduced in order to designate a network of motifs, whose links stand significantly wide apart and refer to different narrative situations. The connections among the variants of the motifs are not obvious or graphic; they are so to speak dotted, implicit and require deciphering. In “The Idiot” the links of the motif network are such as marking oneself with a sign of the cross in front of an icon, deadly paleness, jumping, and blood. However, those are also the links of the motif chain that constitutes the suicide of the character in “The Meek One”. Nevertheless, when a reader goes through the lens of “The Idiot”, the linkage among these motifs in the long short story seems to be accelerated. What is separated in time and is indirectly connected, it becomes tightened and assembled. The dissipative motif network so to speak gathers up into one indivisible gesture in which this cause and effect merge together into one single trajectory of the jump, the end of which is the death of the character. It is as if what happens in “The Meek One” is latently set in advance in “The Idiot”. A jump from the stairs and a leaping from the roof are variants of the very important for Dostoevsky motif “threshold situation”, which is crossing the threshold in a literal and in a figurative sense; an act which marks a turning point in a plot when decisions are taken, characters go through a crisis and cross the border of incompatible events. When “The Meek One” is read in the sense of framework of “The Idiot”, the story has the function of a semantic amplifier: the jump from a low height turns into a jump from a great height; the almost unconscious ritual of bowing in front of the icon turns into jumping with an icon held in both hands, the deadly paleness understood figuratively turns into the real paleness of a dead body. Thus, in the process that is aimed at creating its artistic conception, a literary work enters into the depths of another literary work, deciphers its innermost messages, enunciates and articulates them with its own voice.

Ever since the project of supplying objective knowledge was challenged by the debates about colonialism, gender, sexual orientation, and ethnicity, academics from different fields have begun to share a conception of knowledge as representational, differing primarily in the accounts of how their, “representations” are related to objects that are represented. Understandably, Plato's and Aristotle's definitions of mimesis have acquired new currency. According to Plato, whenever “you see one, you conceive of the other.” According to Aristotle, the relationship between techne and phusis is contained in the formulation that, on the one hand, art imitates nature; on the other hand, art carries to its end what nature is incapable of effecting. Both Plato and Aristotle perceive mimesis as the process of either epistemological or ontological repetition or doubling in which “one” (thought or subject) becomes “two” (thought or subject doubles as idea or object), in theatre studies, for example, the prevailing tradition defines representation in terms of a promise of a performative act. Such an act signifies that the “I” or “we” making the promise understands or knows the problem, the object, or the text and will be able to transfer it from nature, that is, from the real space, to the theatrical, “imaginary” space where the declaration of its existence and the formulation of its speech will be staged in a tight spotlight. This process is authorized by an institutional structure that safeguards the promise, its execution, and its use.

Introduction: Very little research has been done on the transition of newly qualified professionals onto the working field. They often feel vulnerable, due to the differences between them and the experienced professionals. With present study the researcher wanted to investigate whether introducing newly qualified professionals to a specific theoretical model, can help improve their competence in the field of deafblindness and reduce the gap between newly qualified professionals at the start of their careers and expert professionals. The study was specifically aimed at an intervention in applying the Real Space Blend Model to improve competences in the interpretations of gestures of persons with CDB in both groups of professionals. Method: The study used a qualitative design based on individual video-analyses and focus groups. Results: In two of the newly qualified professionals a considerable increase in the number of gestures was seen. Such an increase was also found for one of the expert professionals. Two other expert professionals showed a little change in the overall number of gestures. From the thematic analysis, different themes came forward for each focus group. Newly qualified professionals seemed overall more confident after the intervention, while experienced professionals seemed to have more difficulties grasping the model of Real Space Blends. The expert professionals felt more aware about their identification of gestures in practice. Conclusion and discussion: The training did improve competences in newly qualified professionals. The main effect was an increase in confidence in their abilities. Experienced professionals, on the other hand, experienced more difficulties in learning how to use the model of the Real Space Blends, but found the model very useful in practice to add on the Diagnostic Intervention Model. Some limitations of this study were the small amount of participants and that there were more experienced professionals than newly qualified professionals. More extensive research on the transition of newly qualified professionals is recommended.

Our analysis documents that the existence of hidden “holes” in the capital of not yet failed banks - while creating intertemporal pressure on the actual level of capital - leads to changing of maturity of loans supplied rather than to contracting of their volume. Long-term loans decrease, whereas short-term loans rise - and, what is most remarkably, by approximately the same amounts. Standardly, the higher the maturity of loans the higher the credit risk and, thus, the more loan loss reserves (LLP) banks are forced to create, increasing the pressure on capital. Banks that already hide “holes” in the capital, but have not yet faced with license withdrawal, must possess strong incentives to shorten the maturity of supplied loans. On the one hand, it raises the turnovers of LLP and facilitates the flexibility of capital management; on the other hand, it allows increasing the speed of shifting of attracted deposits to loans to related parties in domestic or foreign jurisdictions. This enlarges the potential size of ex post revealed “hole” in the capital and, therefore, allows us to assume that not every loan might be viewed as a good for the economy: excessive short-term and insufficient long-term loans can produce the source for future losses.

This paper comments on the first Spanish translation of João Guimarães Rosa's short story "Páramo", which narrates the exile of a Brazilian lost with mountain sickness in a cold and hostile Bogotá. This translation is briefly explained in the following pages, giving special emphasis to some prominent features of the original version, in addition to the cultural context, critical and theoretical readings and the translation strategy evident in the translator‘s intervention. Finally, it is made clear how a certain perspective of the other – present in the original version as well – passes through the translation process and indicates the conditions of its presentation in the target language. This article describes about the figure of children world in a short story “Anggrek Rara” written by Ina Inong, by connecting the social structure in the text and in the real life. After analyzing the social structure in the story, it is found that the plot of this story was the progressive plot, the background was from the social fact that came from inner house and outer house, otherwise the central character were Rara and Bunda. By analyzing social structure of text, it was found that a family (home) is the serious and formal environment while outer house is free and non formal. The result of the research showed that the children short story “ Anggrek Rara” was expected to give the figure outlines of the children world.AbstrakPenelitian ini membahas tentang gambaran dunia anak dalam cerita pendek anak “Anggrek Rara” karya Ina Inong dengan menghubungkan struktur sosial teks dalam karya dan struktur sosial teks dengan realitas. Melalui analisis struktur sosial dalam karya terungkap bahwa alur cerita ini merupakan alur lurus, latar terdiri dari fakta sosial yang bersumber dari rumah dan di luar rumah, sedangkan tokoh Rara dan Bunda adalah tokoh sentral. Melalui analisis struktur sosial teks dengan realitas terungkap bahwa keluarga (rumah) merupakan lingkungan yang sifatnya serius dan formal, sedangkan di luar rumah bahkan bersifat bebas dan non formal. Hasil yang diperoleh dari analisis ini menunjukkan bahwa cerita pendek anak “Anggrek Rara” dianggap mampu memberikan garis-garis besar gambaran kehidupan dunia anak.

In a classical random walk model, a walker moves through a deterministic d-dimensional integer lattice in one step at a time, without drifting in any direction. In a more advanced setting, a walker randomly moves over a randomly configured (non equidistant) lattice jumping a random number of steps. In some further variants, there is a limited access walker’s moves. That is, the walker’s movements are not available in real time. Instead, the observations are limited to some random epochs resulting in a delayed information about the real-time position of the walker, its escape time, and location outside a bounded subset of the real space. In this case we target the virtual first passage (or escape) time. Thus, unlike standard random walk problems, rather than crossing the boundary, we deal with the walker’s escape location arbitrarily distant from the boundary. In this paper, we give a short historical background on random walk, discuss various directions in the development of random walk theory, and survey most of our results obtained in the last 25–30 years, including the very recent ones dated 2020–21. Among different applications of such random walks, we discuss stock markets, stochastic networks, games, and queueing.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the intrinsic elements found in the short story Kagami Jigoku by Edogawa Rampo. By using structural methods the analysis process  find out the intrinsic elements which builds  the Kagami Jikoku short story. As a result it is known that the Kagami Jikoku is a short story with a mystery theme as the hallmark of Rampo as its author. The characteristic of this short story can be seen from the theme which raised the unusual obsession problem of the main characters. With the first person point of view which tells in unusual way from the other short stories, the regression plot in Kagami Jikoku is able to tell the unique phenomenon of Japanese society and its modern technology through elements of place, time and socio-cultural aspects of Japanese society in the modern era
