Development of tourism destination should be supported by the potential of tourism activities; one of them is sports tourism. Sports tourism is a tourism activity by doing sports activities as a fundamental and significant part of a vacation. Sanur Tourism Destination, known by many tourists as a place where they can perform sports activities as a mode of movement, has tourism potential that supports the development of sports tourism. That potential is also supported by the planning and activities of stakeholders in order to develop this tourism for society and tourists in realizing sustainable tourism (green tourism).  The purposes of this research were: 1) to discover the potential that makes Sanur Tourism Destination has the opportunity to develop cycling tourism. 2) to find out the benefits of cycling tourism towards Sanur Tourism Destination. The research methodology used was descriptive research methodology. It aimed to obtain a complete profile or description of relevant aspects of an interesting phenomenon, which occurs in an individual, organization, industry, or other things. Techniques for collecting the data were direct observation, in-depth interview and documentation/literature studies.The results showed that: 1) the potential that makes Sanur Tourism Destination has the opportunity to develop cycling tourism. 2) the benefits of cycling tourism towards Sanur Tourism Destination. The recommendation of this research is expected to provide input to Stakeholder and Government in analyzing the potential of Sanur Tourism Destination in developing sports tourism as a friendly destination both in its activities and way of traveling, therefore, it is useful for the welfare of society. The results of this research could also help local people and government in reviewing the strategy of sports tourism planning in Sanur Tourism Destination in realizing sustainable tourism planning.

The tourism potential of Klayar Beach in Pacitan Regency is increasing along with the development of tourism programs in Indonesia which include the development of coastal areas as natural tourism destinations. The development of the coastal area for the development of the potential of local tourism based on nature requires a handling strategy that takes into account a number of considerations that are in harmony with the environment so that disaster-prone constraints can be minimized, including covering aspects of nature conservation. The strategy for developing Klayar Beach can be done through the application of the principles of Ecological Architecture. The research location in the Klayar Beach area is one of the 9 (nine) priority tourism destinations in the Regency of Pacitan. This study aims to find a regional structuring strategy with the application of the principles of ecological architecture, namely optimizing the value of regional potential and still considering the sustainability of nature. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method by conducting surveys through observation, interviews and comparing theories with relevant regulations. The results of the study are regional structuring strategies to develop the potential of Klayar Beach through structuring tourism areas in accordance with local elements and local culture as well as integrated nature conservation so that it becomes a sustainable tourism destination.

ABSTRACTThis study aims to describe the tourism potential and formulate the development of the Matalafang Traditional Village as a cultural tourism destination in Alor Regency. Matalafang Traditional Village is one of the tourist destinations, where the Abui tribes live. The Abui tribe, as one of the largest tribes who inhabit Nusa Kenari Island, has various cultural potentials tourism to be developed. This is in line with the increasing number of tourists visiting. Through qualitative descriptive methods, extracting information is obtained by field observations, structured interviews with 6 key informants, documentation of traditional villages, and literature studies on Matalafang Traditional Village and Alor Regency Tourism. The results showed that the attractiveness of cultural tourism in the Matalafang Traditional Village in the form of the Balai Hatel Traditional Ceremony as a ritual to enter the garden, the Caka Lele dance, the unifying dance of the Alor community Lego-Lego, weaving Ikat for dancing, the fourth level traditional house, and various woven bamboo crafts for putting sirih pinang traditional snacks on it. The strategy formulation is an effort to develop the Matalafang Traditional Village as a cultural tourism destination, such as increasing the awareness of culture-based tourism for the local community, maintaining the authenticity of dance as a tourist attraction, increasing tourist activities after the ritual of opening the garden as alternative tourism, and maintaining the condition of the traditional village that is still original.Keywords: Destinations, Traditional Villages, Matalafang, Cultural Tourism, Development Strategies

Tourism development in an area is able to give an impact on various dimensions of local people life. One of the impacts of tourism development is on the economic dimension. It happened to Sawahlunto, a city in West Sumatera famous for its coal mines, which slowly developed into a tourist city. The purpose of this study was to find out the Strength & Weakness, Opportunity & Threat and to formulate the development strategy of Kota Tua as a tourism destination in Sawahlunto, West Sumatra. The research method is descriptive method using SWOT analysis. The results showed that the development strategy of the Old City area of Sawahlunto used a lot of SWOT analysis, namely by increasing and optimizing natural resources through good processing, improving road access, and improving the tourism sector of Old City Sawahlunto. Another strategy is improving human resources through counseling and training, socialization of science and technology. The tourism potential of Sawahlunto old town on the 4A tourism component (Attraction, Accessibility, Amenities and Ancillary) shows that this area has the potential of historical tourist attraction. The historical heritage of World War II in Sawahlunto is the main tourism potential that is stored. With historical tourism potential, foreign tourists are the target of tourists who are expected to visit Sawahlunto. In order for a historical tourism potential strategy to be implemented, it is necessary to meet the minimum criteria of the tourism component. To meet the service standards of all 4A tourism components, it is necessary to improve the management of 4A tourism components including Attraction, Accessibility, Ancillary, and Amenity.

Purpose of Study: Malaysian tourism sector has widened its scope by venturing into extreme sports tourism. With this new development, tourism opportunities are created and boosting the Malaysian tourism industry growth. The study highlights the development of extreme sports destination that closely related to international and tourists’ involvement and preferences in Malaysia. The purpose of this paper is to determine the predictors of sports tourism involvement in Malaysia from the extreme sports perspective. Specifically, it is going to investigate the possible significant predictors that possibly influenced the international or local tourists’ preferences in choosing Malaysia as their preferred extreme sports tourism destination. This study is restricted to international or local tourists who participated or going to participate in extreme sports activities in Malaysia. Methodology: This study proposes a theoretical framework that is developed based on the review of past researches and literatures. We identified five factors that possibly influenced international tourists or local tourists to choose Malaysia as their extreme sports tourism destination simultaneously involved in such activities. Those predictors are event popularity and entertainment, economics (costs and expenses), facilities and infrastructures, social, and environmental impact. Results: The proposed hypotheses predicted a significant and positive relationship exists between event popularity and entertainment, economics (costs and expenses), facilities and infrastructures, social, and environmental impact towards the tourist involvement and sports tourism development in Malaysia. For the future research, we proposed to further conduct an empirical analysis to test these hypotheses. Implications/Applications: This study could help tourism sectors to explore opportunities for development particularly in the extreme sports sectors in Malaysia.  This study is also useful for researchers, students, tourism operators, tourism sectors, government and society because it could increase the involvement of international tourist or local into the extreme sports activities in Malaysia.

Cilacap is one of the districts in Central Java that has tourism potential with various tourism destination. One of them is Waduk Kubangkangkung. This Waduk Kubangkangkung is a tourism destination that offers beautiful natural tourism and also attractive tourism attraction. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of the local community in Waduk Kubangkangkung development, knowing the manager‘s efforts in developing Waduk Kubangkangkung as a sustainable tourism destination, and finding the development strategy of Waduk Kubangkangkung to attract tourists . While the method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method and SWOT analysis. The results of this study are the need for collaboration between managers and other stakeholders towards Waduk Kubangkangkung, improve promotion and also facilities that needed by tourists. This article is about development strategy of Kuta Lombok as a sustainable tourism destination. It aims were identifying and analyzing potencies, obstacles, and formulating the strategies and programs.This article applied theory of planning and theory of tourism area life cycle. The data were collected by observation, in–depth interviews, and documentation studies. Data was analyzed by descriptive qualitative method, and analysis of matrix SWOT: Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats.Potency of Kuta Lombok as a sustainable tourism destinations are consists of nature and social culture potency. The factors are that become obstacles as such the lack of adequate human resources, management of tourism destination, lack of public awareness in preventing the cleanliness and environmental sustainability, also security and comfort. The article proposes that two grand strategies include strategy of market penetration and development of tourism product.

Purpose An essential requirement for tourism planning and policymaking is to review past strategies. The development of future roadmaps depends on a robust strategy validation process. The research analyses the technology strategies in Goa from 1962–2017 and highlights the impact of technology on tourism in Goa. Design/methodology/approach The paper presents a unique methodology that integrates tourism area life cycle (TALC) and Mintzberg’s strategy analysis framework to evaluate strategies at a tourism destination. Findings The findings show that most technological advancements have taken place during the period 1989–2008. Both deliberate and emergent strategies were identified. Development of technology altered the type of tourism practiced in Goa. The use of internet facilitated the growth of tourism. Research limitations/implications This study clarifies the styles of public planning for tourism. It provides the foundation for strategic planning process. Practical implications Effective and efficient use of policy through technology road mapping can aid in co-creating a sustainable tourism destination for the future. Social implications The strategic evaluation framework can be used in any tourism destinations to identify past strategies and assess its impact on the future. Originality/value The paper presents a unique methodology that integrates TALC and Mintzberg’s strategy analysis framework to evaluate strategies at a tourism destination. The research proposes a strategic evaluation process that recognizes past strategies to validate the strategic analysis process.

This study analyzes the development strategy of Bongo Village, Gorontalo District, Sulawesi, as a tourism destination. This village has a great potential of natural and cultural resources but it has not fully developed yet as tourist attractions.The study starts by identifying tourism potential of the village and followed by setting up the strategy to develop the village as a attractive tourism destination. This study used qualitative descriptive data analysis and SWOT analysis. The result shows that tourism potentials of the Bongo village includes natural tourism resources, artificial resources, cultural and social economic potential, accessibility and supporting facilities, which have not been used and managed well. In addition, some public facilities and infrastructure are inadequate. This study suggests that there is a need for the government involvement in establishing an institution of tourism management, improving the quality of human resources, building infrastructure of tourist facilities which are still lacking, as well as forming a close cooperation between tourism stakeholders including the community.

“U” shaped valleys which has steep slope to the edges and wide on the bed that formed because of gully erosion in karstic field is called as canyon (canyons are quite distinctive areas in terms of the touristic aspect both formation and the ecosystem in the valley.Ulubey canyons located on Ulubey district in Usak province is one of them. Ulubey canyon and its surrounding are extremely rich in terms of natural and cultural aspects. However, has not yet been introduced with tourism in an effective way. There is not much more study related to the Ulubey canyon and its periphery with the geographical approach.This study focused on the awareness of local people to the tourism potential of Ulubey and its surroundings. Study has carried out with the implementation 5-point Likert scales that include 26 questions within 2 sections. Results have been evaluated with using the SPSS 15.0 program and are expressed in the table and graphs in the related sections. The study contributes valuable information in terms of sustainable tourism planning by giving opinions of local people who are one of the key interest groups in the tourism sector.
