This research was aimed to find out how the condition of students’ interest in reading English novels in Faculty of Letters, Muslim Nusantara University Al-Washliyah. As a student majoring in English Literature, reading novels is one of the activities that must be carried out because most of the subjects given are closely related to centrality, one of which is an English-language novel. This research was conducted at the fifth semester students of the Faculty of Literature at Muslim Nusantara University Al-Washliyah. This research used a qualitative descriptive method. The instruments used were observation and interviews. Based on the results of the study it was found that the condition of students’ interest of reading English novels in Faculty of Letters, Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah University is very poor. Keywords:  Analysis, Reading, Novel

Speaking skill becomes one of the most fundamental skills in this era; however English learners need to develop their capability to show their language skill through speaking practice. This research aims to investigate students speaking fluency level toward speaking practice. The qualitative descriptive method is used to describe data analysis. The sample of this research is single sample, English language program students at semester 5.  The video record towards speaking practice and professional feedback are became the data collection technique. The video records duration is about 10 minutes and during that presentation, researcher tried to analysis based on the vocabulary used, voice, and speech fluency. The result of the research showed that student’s speaking fluency level is still low, and it needed to treat and drill more, could be through watching a YouTube or practice among English learners.

This study aims to describe code switching in classroom communication from the sociolinguistic point of view. The research subjects comprised 12 English teachers in senior high schools in the Province of Yogyakarta Special Territory. The data were code switching utterances from English to Indonesian and vice versa in English language learning in the classroom. The data were analyzed using the qualitative descriptive method. The findings show that code switching has three functions, i.e. (a) material delivery, (b) classroommanagement, and (3) discourse markers. With reference to such functions, code switching in English language learning can be made as far as it satisfies academic functions. As the students’ English mastery improves, the use of code switching needs to be reduced.

This study aims to determine activities of using English classroom greeting expressions in TK Pelita Sari, Desa Mambang, Tabanan, to find out perceptions of teachers and parents regarding development of English language skills at an early stage for the children who are influenced by habituation of this English classroom greeting activity, and to determine the positive value contained in English classroom greeting expressions on formation of children's characters. A qualitative descriptive method was employed using observation sheets and interview guides to children, teachers and parents. The results show that: first, the activity of using the English Classroom Greeting was a routine activity carried out every day by the children; second, teachers and parents perceived that the use of the expressions provided language experience for the children which resulted in positive development in speaking and listening in English. Third, there were two character values that seemed to develop along with the language experience in using English Classroom Expression, namely, friendly / communicative and social respect.

This study focuses on the translation of the English adverbial clause from English into Arabic. The first main purpose of this research is to investigate how the English adverbial beta clause functions are rendered into the Arabic texts by using “Google Translate”. The second objective is to preserve the English adverbial beta clause meaning in the target texts throughout of translation process by using “Google Translate”. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The selected date is collected from the English novel, “The Old Man and the Sea” which is written by American writer, Hemingway and its translation in Arabic translation by “Google Translate”. The study adopted Halliday’s theory of functional grammar and Newmark’s theory of semantic and communicative translation as a model for analyzing the selected data. The findings revealed that there are some deviations of the English adverbial clause in the translation process, such as adding new elements or removing existing elements from the source text in Google Translate’s rendering of the data. These deviations have affected the conveyance of the adverbial beta clause intended meaning in the target text.

(Title: The Analysis of Loan Words of English Language Transformed into Japanese Language (Study of Generative Transformational Phonological) The aims of this research are to explain the phonological processes and phonological rule in loan words of English language into Japanese language through generative phonological studies. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The research data are taken from Japanese dictionary loan words. The result shows eight phonological processes and phonological rules in the process of transformation English language to Japanese. (1) the process of adding segment /u/ at the end of the words (2) segment additions /o/ at the end of the words (3) segment additions /u/ in the middle of words  (4) segment additions /o/ in the middle of words (5) substitution of phoneme /l/ to /r/, (6) substitution of phoneme /v/ to /b/, (7) segment additions /i/, (8) substitution of phoneme /t/ to /c/. The transformation of phonological processes on the loan words of English language into Japanese language affected by the internal factor.

This is a case study that aims at analyzing the students’ ability in answering grammar questions about adjective clauses. The method used to analyze the data is qualitative descriptive method. The result of the study showed how well students’ ability of the second semester student of English Literature department at Universitas Pamulang in dealing with grammar questions about adjective clauses. There were 26 random students from two different classes in the same semester who were included in this study. The study shows that the average of students score resulted them to be classifed to have Fair (got 60 to 69 score) category of adjective clause mastery by reaching 46% of the total percentage.

This research described about the“Syntactic Category and its Functions” of English language which only implemented on the “present tense”. This research was more focused on some certain sentences elements and expanded into some type of verbs such as ordinary intransitive, complex-intransitive, semitransitive, ordinary monotransitive,complex-transitive, ditransitive and prepositional partial of ditransitive. This research was intended to increase the English learners and teachers’ abilities to have a better understanding related to the sentence elements of English language in the future time. The theories of syntax proposed by Huddleston and Pullum (2005) and Verhaar (2012) were appliedto determine the syntax category and its functions in this research.The introspective reflexsive method was applied to gain the data in this research, however the qualitative descriptive method was applied to analyse the data in this research.

This research tried to fulfill the gap in exploring how international tutors learn about the Indonesian language as well as to examine their personal perspectives on the influence of Indonesian culture towards its language. The qualitative descriptive method used as the research design since, in the analysis of the data, someone cannot truly learn about certain languages without learning about its culture and its society. Learning, knowing, and understanding about the local culture means that someone can practically easier teach language to its society. Overall, all international tutors feel fascinated by how Indonesian people think, speak, and act, which influenced by the culture of its society. They also conclude that Indonesian people are expressing and using their language based on their experience with their own culture.

This study aims to describe 1) the form of cohesion contained in the news Watching Sakinah Movies, UIN Yogyakarta Give Praise Students and 2) describing the forms of coherence contained in the news Watching Sakinah Film, Students of UIN Yogyakarta Give Praise. The subjects used in this study were news of watching Sakinah film, UIN Yogyakarta students giving praise, and the objects used were sentences containing grammatical cohesion, a form of lexical cohesion. The approach used in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach. The data in this study are sentences in the news of Watching Sakinah Movies, This student is a method of literature study. While the method of data analysis in this study is descriptive method analysis method, the method used to analyze and describe cohesion markers and analyze markers of coherence. Test The results of the study show that in the news of watching Sakinah films, UIN Yogyakarta Beri Pujian students have varied markers of cohesion and coherence in the Tebuireng Online news discourse. Cohesion markers were found to reference (3), substitution (1), ellipsis (2), conjunction (3), collocation (1), and markers of coherence found cause-effect relationships (2), relationship coherence suggestions — goals (1), coherence temporal relations (1), and coherence of causal relationships (1).


This research article highlights the temperament, inference, scope, and motives of code-mixing in Pakistani English works. One novel from Pakistani English novels namely, An American Brat by Bapsi Sidhwa, and one short story namely, The Escape by Qaisra Shehraz are being selected as an illustration of this reading. In this novel and short story, the writers have already dealt with the characteristics of postcolonialism. English language and literature pierced into the privileged civilizations of the sub-continent, after the end of British Imperialism. Pakistani writers in English are the best interpreter of the post-colonial communal language. In this study, I have hit upon code-mixing in English works written by Pakistani authors to a bigger echelon. These works are paragons of arts and the unbelievable mixture of rhetorical and fictitious study. In these works, the writers have not abased the confined diversities. They have tinted the value of Pakistani English in order to achieve the chatty desires of native people. These borrowings from the native languages are used to fill the lexical fissures of ideological thoughts. The reason of these borrowings is not to represent the English as a substandard assortment. Through the utilization of native words, we conclude that the significance of native languages has been tinted to question mark the dialect as well. The words of daily use also have an area of research for English people without having any substitute in English. That’s why in English literature innovative practices and ideas of code-mixing have been employed.
