This research is aimed at finding out whether the use of Kahoot! application can increase the students’ critical reading ability, learning autonomy, and their learning participation in Critical Reading learning process. This research was conducted at the English Education Program Study of IAIN Surakarta involving 36 students as the research subjects. This classroom action research consisted of 2 cycles; 5 meetings for each cycle, with 1 pre-test and 2 post-tests. Based on the research results, it can be found out that the mean of pre-test scores is 25.56, the mean of post-test 1 is 44.39, and the mean of post-test 2 is 66.17; it means that the use of Kahoot! application can increase the students’ critical reading ability. The results of the questionnaire consisting of 9 indicators show that the use of Kahoot! application can increase the students’ learning autonomy. Furthermore, results from observation also show that the students’ learning participation increased during the learning process when Kahoot! application was applied. The students also assumed that the use of Kahoot! application can increase their learning participation.

The objective of this research is to know whether Podcast can improve the students’ pronunciation in speaking English when it is implemented in teaching learning process in class 01 Semester I, English Education Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, UNISRI, Surakarta in 2019/2020 Academic Year.This research method used a Classroom Action Research which was implemented in two cycles. The subject of the research was class 01 Semester I, English Education Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, UNISRI, Surakarta in 2019/2020 Academic Year. This study was conducted in two cycles. The first cycle consisted of four meetings, and the second cycle consisted of three meetings. The procedure of the action research consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The data were collected through questionnaire, interview, field notes, and test. To analyze the quantitative data, the researcher applied descriptive statistics. It was used to compare the scores and means of pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was conducted in the preliminary research while post-test was conducted at the end of cycle 1 and 2. The result of the test was used to know how well the students understand the text of listening. To analyze the qualitative data, the researcher analyzed the improvement of the teaching learning process based on the results of questionnaire, interview, and field notes.The result of the research showed that the use of Podcast has helped students to get exposed to correct pronunciation. By constantly listening to Podcast of native speakers of English, students develop their skill not only in listening but also in pronouncing the words in English correctly. It also has helped the students in improving the students’ vocabulary mastery. In conclusion, by listening to Podcast, students can improve their pronunciation and vocabulary mastery so that they also can speak more during the speaking activity.Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that students’ pronunciation in English can be improved by the use of Podcast. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers and students can use Podcast as one of the alternative techniques in teaching and learning speaking.Keywords : Podcast, Proununciation, Speaking Skill, Action Research

This Collaborative Classroom Action Research aimed at enhancing students’ speaking skill through the application of Circle Game. It was conducted in one cycle consisting of two meetings. The subject was the seventh of C class of SMPN 2 Alas Barat consisting of 22 students. The types of data were qualitative (acquiring observation during the learning process) and quantitative (speaking tests). The results qualitatively showed that the implementation of Circle Game enhanced the students’ speaking skills. Such improvement could be seen from their enthusiasm, their interesting feeling in various materials presented by the teacher, their active involvement. In the quantitative findings, the result also showed a higher value of the mean score of the post-test (77.34) rather than the pre-test (75.75). In conclusion, the use of Circle Game can improve students’ speaking skill.

The purpose of this research is to investigate of using jigsaw technique to improve reading comprehension at the tenth grade students in SMAN 1 Ngamprah. The total number of sample in this study was 60 students in two classes. It used pre-experimental design that applies in the treatments to measure the significant scores pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was applied in the first meeting. Whereas post-test was applied after the treatments given. After given pre-test and post-test, the researcher got the mean scores in both of the class. There are 57.00 and 80.17 in experimental class and the control class are respectively 57.00 and 79.17. The result show that using jigsaw technique had the positive effect in improving reading comprehension because there was a significant post- test scores of students in two classes with the level significance 0.05. The significance in post-test is 0.355 it was higher than 0.05. It concluded that students’ response toward the implementation of jigsaw technique is effective because they are enjoyed and interested in the learning process. Moreover, the jigsaw technique could help them to improve their reading comprehension.

This study focused to improve Students’ Vocabulary Achievement by Applying Anagram PlusFlashcards. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of thisstudy was students in class VII-7 of SMP Negeri 7 Pematangsiantar. There were 32 studentstaken as the subject. The instrument for collecting data were the test for vocabulary and diarynotes, questionnaire sheets, observation sheet, and interview for process of teaching andlearning vocabulary. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis. The result of the researchshowed that the mean of students’ score in pre-test was 56.41, the mean of students’ score inpost-test I was 69.22. The mean of students’ score in post-test II was 76.72. There wereimprovement of students’ achievement from 56.41-76.72 about 20.31 point and that score(76.72) was excelled the indicator (75). Based on diary notes, questionnaire sheets,observation sheet, and interview, it found that teaching and learning process ran well.Students were active, cooperative, enthusiastic and interested in learning vocabulary.There were 16 students (50%) agreed that the students active in learning process, 20students (62.5%) were interested, 20 students (62.5%) were enthusiastic and 19 students(59.37%) were agreed that strategy of learning was effective. It can be concluded that theapplication of anagram plus flashcards had successfully improved the students’ vocabularyachievement at the SMP Negeri 7 Pematangsiantar.

Abstract   This classroom action research was done in the area of speaking.  It was found that the eleventh grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar got difficulty  in communicating and delivering ideas. The objective of this study was to figure out whether or not speaking  skill of the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar in academic year 2017/2018 could be improved  through  British  Parliamentary  Style Debate Technique.  The research was undertaken based on the result of the interview with the teacher who taught the students. Pre-test was then carried out, and it was found that the subjects’ speaking skill was low. In order to settle down the problem, British Parliamentary Style Debate Technique was implemented as the technique to improve the subjects’ speaking skill. The study was conducted in two cycles. Furthermore, the result of post- test in each cycle showed that there were significant improvements on the subjects’ speaking skill after British  Parliamentary  Style  Debate technique  was applied. After the treatment of pre-test, the reflection or post-test was administered.   The mean figure of the reflection or post-test scores obtained by the subjects under study in cycle I was 70.52. and in cycle  II  was  78.34. In addition, based on the data of the questionnaire, the subjects’ responses towards the application of the technique was positive.  Therefore, it could be concluded that speaking skill of the eleventh- grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar in academic year 2017/2018 could be improved through British Parliamentary Style Debate Technique. This research applied Classroom Action Research (CAR) to know if Pair-work technique is appropriate used to teach English Conversation. This research was conducted in two cycles of teaching learning activities, it was attained that the students’ ability at speaking could be increased which found the students’ test scores from pre-cycle (before doing treatment) to the second cycle (after the treatment done) increased. In the pre-test denoted that 78.1% (25 students of 32 research subjects) got scores below 70, in the post-test of cycle one was attained 90,6% (29 students of 32 research subjects) got scores 70 up and in the cycle two- post test 93,75% of the students got scores 70 up. This strategy could also drive the students actively taking part in the classroom

This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR).  It aimed at improving students’ speaking skill of the 7th grade at SMP N 1 Kotabunan East Bolaang Mongondow through the snowball throwing technique. The subjects of this research were 31 students consisted of 21 girls and 10 boys. But, only 25 students who attended the classroom. In this research, the researchers used mixed method (quantitative and qualitative design). To collect the data, the researchers utilized by using tests and observation. The researchers conducted the tests by asking the questions that related to the lessons that students had previously learnt.  Meanwhile, observation was accomplished in order to observe qualitatively about the students’ learning process by the technique. The results showed that, in the first cycle, the mean score was 39.84 with percentage of students who passed the test was 52%. While in the second cycle, the mean score of post-test was 72.16 with the percentage of students who passed the test was 100%. According to the observation in the first cycle, it revealed that students could not carry out the technique properly and some students were not good in speaking such as having bad grammar and pronunciation. Furthermore, the researchers used the papers to construct as a ball in conducting the snowball throwing technique. In the second cycle, it indicated that the students were going better by carrying out the following technique. Based on the indication of the result, it can be said that there was an improvement of students’ speaking skill through snowball throwing technique of the 7th grade at SMP N 1 Kotabunan East Bolang Mongondow.

This study aims to improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive text through Group Investigation technique. This study was conducted by using classroom action research that has two cycles within. The first cycle was conducted in four meetings and the second cycle was conducted in two meetings. The subject of the research was the students of grade VIII at Yayasan Pendidikan El Hidayah Madrasah Tsanawiyah Desa Lalang Sunggal which consisted of 28 students. The instruments of collecting data were quantitative (writing test) and qualitative data (observation sheet, questionnaire sheet, and diary notes). Based on the writing test scores, students’ score kept improving in every test. In the orientation test the mean score was 59.42, in the first cycle, the mean score of the competence score was improved to be 68.17, in the second cycle; the mean of the competence score was also improved to be 76.85. Based on the observation sheet, questionnaire sheet, and diary notes, it was found that teaching-learning process ran well. Students were active, enthusiastic, and interested in writing. The result of the research showed that Group Investigation Technique could improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive text.

Abstract:This study aims to enhance the students' reading ability through Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS) in SMA Negeri 19 Makassar. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR), which consists of four stages: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The research techniques used are pretest, post-test, and observation. The findings showed that the use of Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies was successful in improving the students' reading ability. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of the students in cycle one is 23.1, which is categorized as good, while in cycle two, it is 73.1, which is classified as very good. Seventeen students met the Minimum Completeness Criteria (MCC) in cycle one, and 22 students completed the MCC in cycle two. Therefore, this research concludes that Peer-Assisted Learning strategies improve the students' learning outcomes of reading ability in SMA Negeri 19 Makassar.Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa melalui Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS) di SMA Negeri 19 Makassar. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang terdiri dari 4 tahap; perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Teknik penelitian ini menggunakan tes dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa SMA Negarei 19 Makassar. Peningkatan tersebut terlihat dari nilai rata-rata siswa pada siklus I sebesar 23,1 dengan kategori baik, dan pada siklus II sebesar 73,1 tergolong sangat baik. Tujuh belas siswa memenuhi Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum (KKM) pada siklus satu, dan 22 siswa memenuhi KKM pada siklus dua. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa kemampuan membaca siswa meningkat melalui model pembelajaran Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies di SMA Negarei 19 Makassar.

AbstractThis was a research report on developing students’ vocabulary through watching English cartoon films. The objectives of this research were to develop students’ vocabulary and students’ responses on learning vocabulary through watching English cartoon film at SMP BHAKTI, Jakarta. This research used classroom action research (CAR) method in which the students consisted of 23 eighth graders of SMP BHAKTI, Jakarta and comprised15 males and 8 females. To collect the data the researcher used test and non-test techniques. The test technique was realized in pre-test and post-test; while the non-test one was in questionnaire, observation sheet, and diary notes. Based on the test analysis results, it was found that the mean score of the pretest, post-test in Cycle 1 and 2 were 60.73 points, 80.86 points, and 90.00 points respectively. The gain between the post-test and pre-test scores in Cycle 1 was 33.14% and the gain between the post-test in Cycle 1 and post-test scores in Cycle 2 was 11.30%. The gain between pre-test and post-test scores in Cycle 2 was 48.69%. Therefore, it can be concluded that watching English cartoon films could develop the eighth graders’ vocabulary of SMP BHAKTI, Jakarta. Besides, based on the questionnaire, observation sheet, and diary notes analysis results, it was revealed that students agreed that watching English cartoon films was a good strategy to develop their vocabulary. The conclusion is that watching English cartoon films can develop students’ vocabulary.Keywords: English cartoon films, vocabulary, action research
