Will be considered transport company exploiting the uniform in the sense of destination, means of transport such as tankers, with a total transport potential equal to a loading units (e.g. tones). The company operates in the transport market, where demand for transport services is random. The problem of fitting the transport potential of a transport company to the demand for such services is formulated. As measure of this fit assumes that the probability of a firms transport potential is not being exceeded by demand over the given time horizon. Practically useful formulas for estimating such probability for cases where demand for transport services is described by stationary and non-stationary normal stochastic processes. The results are illustrated by numerical examples.

Abstract The scalar boundary value problem (BVP) for a nonlinear second order differential equation on the semiaxis is considered. Under some natural assumptions it is shown that on an arbitrary finite grid there exists a unique three-point exact difference scheme (EDS), i.e., a difference scheme whose solution coincides with the projection of the exact solution of the given differential equation onto the underlying grid. A constructive method is proposed to derive from the EDS a so-called truncated difference scheme (n-TDS) of rank n, where n is a freely selectable natural number. The n-TDS is the basis for a new adaptive algorithm which has all the advantages known from the modern IVP-solvers. Numerical examples are given which illustrate the theorems presented in the paper and demonstrate the reliability of the new algorithm.

<p>The aim of this article is to present an efficient numerical procedure for solving Lane-Emden type equations. We present two practical matrix method for solving Lane-Emden type equations with mixed conditions by Bernstein polynomials operational matrices (BPOMs) on interval [<em>a; b</em>]. This methods transforms Lane-Emden type equations and the given conditions into matrix equation which corresponds to a system of linear algebraic equations. We also give some numerical examples to demonstrate the efficiency and validity of the operational matrices for solving Lane-Emden type equations (LEEs).</p>

The intense growth of cities affects their inhabitants to a considerable extent. The issues facing the traveling population include congestion and growing harmful emissions. Urban transport requires changes towards eco-friendly solutions. However, even though new forms of traveling (sharing services) are being implemented, their integration with public transport remains problematic. On account of the large number of available services combined with the absence of their integration, city inhabitants are faced with the dilemma of choosing between one or several transport modes which would enable them to make the given trip. The main goal of this article is to propose a model for integration of different transport services which could support those who intend to travel in the decision-making process. Therefore, the parameters of a model of urban sharing services were identified and classified. The parameters discussed in the paper with reference to an extensive literature review describe how individual sharing services are functioning. What has also been identified is the location-specific factors as well as those related to the potential area of operation which affect the integration with public transport. In order to take all the relevant parameters into account and find a solution to the problem at hand, a multi-criteria decision-making approach has been proposed. To this end, scores and weights determining their impact on the model have been established. For purposes of the solution in question, the relevant calculations were conducted by referring to an actual need to travel between selected locations.

Electric cargo bicycles have become a popular mode of transport for last-mile goods deliveries under conditions of restricted traffic in urban areas. The indispensable elements of the cargo bike delivery systems are loading hubs: they serve as intermediate points between vans and bikes ensuring loading, storage, and e-vehicle charging operations. The choice of the loading hub location is one of the basic problems to be solved when designing city logistics systems that presume the use of electric bicycles. The paper proposes an approach to justifying the location of a loading hub based on computer simulations of the delivery process in the closed urban area under the condition of stochastic demand for transport services. The developed mathematical model considers consignees and loading hubs as vertices in the graph representing the transport network. A single request for transport services is described based on the set of numeric parameters, among which the most significant are the size of the consignment, its dimensions, and the time interval between the current and the previous requests for deliveries. The software implementation of the developed model in Python programming language was used to simulate the process of goods delivery by e-bikes for two cases—the synthetically generated rectangular network and the real-world case of the Old Town district in Krakow, Poland. The loading hub location was substantiated based on the simulation results from a set of alternative locations by using the minimum of the total transport work as the efficiency criterion. The obtained results differ from the loading hub locations chosen with the use of classical rectilinear and center-of-gravity methods to solve a simple facility location problem.

Abstract Planning the extent of transport services within a selected territory is a topical issue especially in the context of developing integrated transport systems. The objective of this research study is to design a sustainable system of public passenger transport that would be an alternative to expanding individual transport. The implementation of a quality and efficient transport service is a relatively complex process, since, currently, there are no generally applicable principles for its design. This manuscript presents general results of research aimed at solving the problem of transport service within a selected territory issue with a focus on rail transport as an efficient transport system representing a backbone of a transport system. The subject of the investigation is to compile a set of factors affecting the design of the transport concept. The output of the manuscript consists in a proposal of a generally applicable procedure including a calculation of transport potential and characteristics of the inputs. Subsequently, based on the resulting values, it will be possible to determine the extent of the transport services provided by rail transport in any territory, which will contribute to a more efficient and high quality theoretical graph of train running.

The focus of the present research is to eliminate the undesired steady-state vibrations at selected lines or locations in a vibrating plate by means of adding attachments at arbitrary selected locations. These attachments can be either added concentrated masses and/or translational or rotational springs which are connected to the plate at one end and grounded at the other. The case of attachment of translational and/or rotational oscillators systems is examined. In addition, imposing lines of zero displacements (nodal lines) at selected locations are also investigated. The dynamic Green's function method is employed. Several numerical examples are cited to verify the utility of the proposed method. In addition, sample experiments to measure the plate free and forced vibrations for the given boundary conditions are conducted and the experimental measurements are compared with the analytical results.

A family of derivative-free methods of seventh-order convergence for solving nonlinear equations is suggested. In the proposed methods, several linear combinations of divided differences are used in order to get a good estimation of the derivative of the given function at the different steps of the iteration. The efficiency indices of the members of this family are equal to 1.6266. Also, numerical examples are used to show the performance of the presented methods, on smooth and nonsmooth equations, and to compare with other derivative-free methods, including some optimal fourth-order ones, in the sense of Kung-Traub’s conjecture.

This paper describes the use of trigonometric spline to visualize the given planar data. The goal of this work is to determine the smoothest possible curve that passes through its data points while simultaneously satisfying the shape preserving features of the data. Positive, monotone, and constrained curve interpolating schemes, by using aC1piecewise rational cubic trigonometric spline with four shape parameters, are developed. Two of these shape parameters are constrained and the other two are set free to preserve the inherited shape features of the data as well as to control the shape of the curve. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the worth of the work.

This article discusses the study of competitors’ activity and presents some of the results of our research in this area. The main purpose of the study is to determine the positions, establish the strengths and weaknesses of their activities, assess their own ability to develop on this basis, the strategy and tactics of competitive behavior of the enterprise in the market. Based on the study of literature sources, the shortcomings of the existing model of analyzing competitors are identified, the proposals for its improvement are given. It is proposed to study the activities of competitors in the following sequence: identifying priority competitors, collecting data on their activities, identifying strengths and weaknesses, determining the position of the company among competitors. To determine the priority competitors, the analysis of the correlation field – the cell in the coordinate system – competitor and market segment is offered, in which we obtain the data: the volume of transport services, the market segment share, the share of traffic in total transport work. These indicators are determined for each competitor and show the priority of each competitor. At the first stage of the methodology of analysis of competitors’ activity, an approach to the definition of priority competitors is proposed, which means those of them who have the largest market share, both in the market as a whole and in a particular market segment. Much attention in the study is paid to determining the list of signs of competitors’ priority and establishing sources of information. On the basis of certain values of the enterprise and competitors there is an opportunity to establish the strengths and weaknesses of each of them. On the basis of the signs of enterprises’ activity that characterize their size, it is possible to obtain a generalized assessment of the market position of the trucking company and competitors, their strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, ratings are made without and with taking into account the importance of each criterion of the market position of MTE and competitors. The results of the research can be used in the process of determining the optimal strategy for motor transport enterprises.
