The aim of the study was to establish correlation and regression dependencies between some traits of sperm production of terminal boars (Large White x Pietrain). The analyzed material consisted of 347 ejaculates, received in the period from 2011 to 2014. The boars were divided in three groups according to the age the ejaculate was obtained at (up to 12 months, from 12 to 24 months, and above 36 months). A moderate and negative correlation was established (rp=-0.34, p<0.001) between the volume of the ejaculate and the concentration of the sperms in the second age group. With the youngest boars we established poor and positive correlation (rp=0.29, p<0.05) between the volume of the semen and the motility of the sperm. The correlations between the traits concentration and motility are poor in the third (rp=0.18, p<0.05), and moderate in the second age group (rp=0.49, p<0.001). Between the motility from one side and the agglutinated and dead sperms from the other, they are within the range of rp =-0.46 to rp=-0.87, p<0.001. The correlations between the agglutinated and dead sperms are positive, from moderate to high and reliable (p<0.001) in all three age classes. The regression trend between the traits of sperm production are almost the same in all three age groups with the exception of volume of the ejaculate to the concentration of sperms.

ABSTRACT In 210 subfertile men there existed a significant positive correlation between serum FSH and LH (0.41). No correlation was observed between the gonadotrophin levels and testosterone. In contrast to this FSH as well as LH were negatively correlated with the natural logarithm (In) of the sperm count/ml ejaculate (−0.44 and −0.18, respectively). When the positive correlation which existed between FSH and LH was used to calculate partial correlation coefficients, the coefficient between FSH and ln sperm count did hardly change (−0.41) the coefficient between LH and ln sperm count on the other hand became insignificant (−0.05). This suggests that spermatogenesis influences FSH serum levels in subfertile men by a decreased suppression when sperm production is diminished. Testicular biopsies taken from 97 of these patients were used to determine biopsy scores. These scores showed a significant negative correlation with FSH (−0.34) and a positive one with ln sperm count/ml ejaculate (0.45). Interestingly the biopsy score of 16 patients who fertilized their wives, was found to be higher compared with the score of the other patients who did not fertilize. The number of sperm/ml ejaculate and the FSH values of these 2 groups of biopsied patients were, however, not significantly different. This leads to the conclusion that the biopsy score is a better parameter for the evaluation of oligospermic men than either sperm count or FSH serum values.

The tropical vegetable, brinjal is cultivated throughout the year in Bangladesh but the crop is infested by a number of insects including jassid. This study investigated the effects of different biophysical and biochemical characteristics of twelve brinjal germplasms on the abundance and infestation of jassid. The experiment was conducted during September 2018 to March 2019 in Gazipur, Bangladesh with twelve brinjal germplasms namely BD-7320, BD-7328, BD-9952, BD-10154, BD-10158, BARI Begun-1, BARI Begun-4, BARI Begun-5, BARI Begun- 6, BARI Begun-7, BARI Begun-8 and BARI Begun-9. The incidence of jassid was recorded from 3rd December to 26th March, and the lowest population was found on BARI Begun- 6. Among the biophysical traits, plant height, number of branch and leaf per plant, and leaf area exerted significant positive correlation; whereas trichome on lower and upper surfaces of leaf, spine per stem and leaf showed significant negative correlation with the abundance of jassid. On the other hand, moisture, reducing sugar, total sugar and protein content of the leaves and fruits, chlorophyll content of the leaves exerts significant positive correlation but ash and pH contents of the leaves and fruits were negatively correlated with the abundance of jassid. Jassids showed the lowest level of leaf infestation on BARI Begun-6, which could be for further analysis to develop jassid resistant brinjal. SAARC J. Agric., 19(1): 81-91 (2021)

This study aimed to identify the anaerobic capacity level of a sample of Omani children. The sample included 197 children between the ages of 9 to 13 years. The Running-based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST) was used. The sample was divided into five groups. The first group comprised the nine-year olds (19 children), the second group comprised the ten-year olds (22 children), the third group comprised the eleven-year olds (52 children), the fourth group comprised the 12-year olds (43 children), and the fifth comprised the 13-year olds (61 children). The results showed that the anaerobic capacity level improved during the stages of growth. The level of improvement achieved in 13-year old children was the highest compared to the other age-groups (P S 0.000). This improvement was not at a steady rate. It occurred through booms that coincided with growth which appears in practice through the evolution of not only the level of values on the amount of effort, but also in the level of some related motor skills. It showed a positive correlation between the values of the anaerobic capacity level, the time of running 100 meters and vertical jumping (p S 0.01). When analyzing the results of an experiment, we often assume that the interpretation of the data is a straightforward act; however, experiments on reproducibility that have large numbers of scientists analyze the same dataset show that even subtle differences in workflows can lead to drastically different results. Beyond the use of different analysis methods, one potential reason for different conclusions from the same data is confirmation bias, a phenomenon well documented in psychology. We reasoned that confirmation bias might not only influence the choice of analysis methods and depth of analysis, but that it might even shape how different researchers interpret the same graphical representation of data. To test this notion, we designed a simple experiment, in which we contrast the prior expectation of participants’ for the relationship between two variables (income and happiness) with their interpretation of a corresponding data plot. We artificially engineered the data such that under superficial examination, it shows an overall negative correlation, while a closer look at distinct age groups (distinguished by color) reveals a within-group positive correlation. Prior to showing the plot, we had asked the participants whether they expected a positive or a negative relationship. We found that participants who expected a positive correlation were more than twice as likely to detect the positive within-age group correlation than those expecting a negative correlation. This simple experiment demonstrates the presence of confirmation bias in the interpretation of graphical data representations.

Highly continuous exposure to Radon (222Rn) concentrations can affects human health and cause lung cancer. This study aims to briefly monitor 222Rn concentration at different level altitude and to investigate correlation between their environmental parameters sort of temperature, humidity and pressure in indoor space. Lecture rooms known as BK 4 in the first floor and BK 8 in the third floor at academic building Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) Jeli Campus were selected as the study areas. The total of 210 readings indoor 222Rn concentrations data have been collected for the whole study using Radon Sentinel Model 1030. Average 222Rn concentration in BK 4 and BK 8 were found to have range from 0.36 pCi/L to 0.73 pCi/L and 0.40 pCi/L to 0.93 pCi/L, respectively. 222Rn concentration is higher at BK 8 with height 14.4 meter than BK 4 with height 4.8 meter from the ground. Negative correlations were obtained between 222Rn concentrations over pressure, temperature and humidity at BK 4. Meanwhile, 222Rn concentrations over pressure and humidity at BK 8 have shown positive correlation and negative correlation with temperature.

Background: Reduced ovarian reserve predicts poor ovarian response and poor suc-- cess rates in infertile women who undergo Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). Ovarian reserve decreases with age but the rate of decline varies from one woman to another. Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) and antral follicle count (AFC) represent the three most frequently utilized laboratory tests in determining Ovarian Reserve (OR). To determine correlation between FSH, AMH and AFC in infertile female. Materials and methods: It was an observational (Cross sectional) study. This study was done in the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, between July 2018 to June 2019. The study population consisted of all the diagnosed female infertility patients of reproductive age. The women attending the study center during study period having primary or secondary infertility was considered as study population. They were divided in 4 age groups 21-25, 26-30, 31-35 yrs and 36-40 yrs years. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire following physical & lab examination. For D2 FSH level fasting blood was collected on D2/3 of menstrual cycle, serum FSH level was measured by ADVIA Centraur(R) XP immunoassay system. For S. AMH level blood sample was collected on 2nd day of cycle and measured by BECKMAN COULTER machine using Chemiluminescent Immunoassay method. For AFC count TVS was done on D2-5 of cycle using KONTRON medical USG machine. Collected data were classified, edited, coded and entered into the computer for statistical analysis by using SPSS version 23. Results: Out of 74 patients the mean age was found 32.6±5.5 years. Serum FSH, AMH and AFC were significantly associated with different age group. A negative correlation was found between serum FSH and serum AMH in all age group. But strong correlation found in age group 31-35 yrs and in 36-40 years age group. A negative correlation was found between serum FSH and total AFC in age group 26- 30 years, 31-35 years and 36-40 years respectively. A positive correlation was found between serum AMH and total AFC in all age group but most strong in age group 31-35 years. In multivariate logistic regression analysis serum AMH (<1.0 ng/ml) and total AFC (<5 number) were found to be significantly associated with age group >35 years patients. Conclusion: In all age grqoup, FSH, AMH and AFC correlates but it is more pronounced in advanced age that means >35 years age group. AbstractAsthma is exaggerated response of immune system which is a leading cause of death in the third world. Main causes of asthma are allergy, smoking, drugs like NSAID (Aspirin) and family history. Objective of study was to check the prevalence of asthma in different age groups and its impact on socioeconomical behaviors of the peoples of southern Punjab, by developing a questionnaire. Incidence of asthmatic attack in the age group of 20 to 60 years was more than in age group of 20 years, furthermore the incidence was found to be more common in females as compare to males. The smokers were at more risk to develop the disease as compared to the nonsmokers.

INTRODUCTION: The impact of COVID-19 on the Brazilian pediatric population may be underestimated by underreporting. This study compares the incidence of hospitalizations and deaths due to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and etiologies in children between 2019 and 2020. METHODS: Epidemiological study carried out by consulting InfoGripe. Data referring to epidemiological weeks 1 to 25 of the years 2019 and 2020 were consulted, analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 program. RESULTS: Comparing the years 2019 and 2020, we observed reduction in the incidence rate (per 100,000) of hospitalizations for SARS in the 0-4 year age group from 4.023 to 2.980 (p = 0.05), and an increase in the other age groups, in schoolchildren, 0.353 to 0.618 (p = 0.009) and among adolescents, 0.115 to 0.393 (p = 0.002). There was an increase in deaths from 0.013 to 0.017 (p = 0.05) between 5-9 years, and from 0.009 to 0.029 (p = 0.001) between 10-19 years. In relation to “unknown etiology”, the incidence of hospitalizations increased from 0.294 to 1.454 (p = 0.007) and deaths from 0.03 to 0.28 (p = 0.004). CONCLUSION: The incidence of hospitalizations and deaths due to SARS in 2020 in children aged 5-9 and 10-19 years was higher than in 2019. The 3.4-fold increase in the number of cases, and 9.3-fold increase in deaths from SARS without a defined etiology in 2020 may suggests an important underreporting by COVID -19 in Brazil. Further studies are needed to assess the extent and impact of SARS-CoV-2 in children.

The aim of the study was to analyse the grass pollen season dynamics in Cracow in 1991-2008 and to find the relationship between the meteorological conditions and season parameters. The pollen season started on average on the 138th day of the year (±10 days) and ended on the 211th day (±10 days). The median of the SPI value (calculated by the 95/90% method) was 2041, peak concentration - 111 pgm<sup>-3</sup> (achieved on average on the 34th day of the season/173th day of the year). The average temperature in April-May showed the greatest effect on the start and end of the season (negative correlation). T<sub>mean</sub> of the third decade of June influenced the season end (rs negative). T<sub>mean</sub> of April-May correlated negatively with the time of peak concentration. Rainfall in January and April influenced the season start. Relative sunshine in March-April was related to the season start, in the third decade of June it was related to the season end (negative correlation), in March-April it influenced the time of peak concentration (positive correlation), while in January-March the peak concentration (positively). Cloudiness in February-May and also in the third decade of June had an impact on the season end and time of peak concentration (positive correlation). Humidity in February influenced the season start (negatively). The SPI value was influenced by relative sunshine (positively) in February-May, by humidity in April, and cloudiness in February-March (negatively).

<p>This study investigated the relationship between self-directedness (as measured by the Adult Learner Self-Directedness Scale) and biographical factors such as age, race, and gender of adult learners enrolled at a South African open distance learning (ODL) higher education institution. Correlational and inferential statistical analyses were used. A stratified random sample of 1,102 mainly black and female learners participated in the study. The Adult Learner Self-Directedness Scale (ALSDS) identified four constructs of adult learner self-directedness in an Open Distance Learning Higher Education (ODLHE) milieu, namely the strategic utilisation of officially provided resources, engaged academic activity, success orientation for ODLHE, and academically motivated behaviour. The research indicated that significant differences exist between the gender, race and age groups with regard to self-directedness.</p><p>With regard to gender, males scored significantly higher than females on success orientation for ODLHE and engaged academic activity. With regard to race, Indian participants scored significantly higher than the other race groups on strategic utilisation of officially provided resources and engaged academic activity. The white participants scored significantly higher than the other race groups on success orientation for ODLHE. In terms of age, the age group &gt;50 scored significantly higher than the other age groups on success orientation for ODLHE and self-efficacy. In terms of success orientation, the means for the age groups seem to increase as the ages of participants increase. The age group 18-25 scored significantly higher than the other age groups on engaged academic activity.</p>
