Poplar is an important tree species valued all over the world for its wood importance. Despite limited knowledge of the levels of genetic diversity and relatedness, their cultivation as a source of plywood is widespread. In order to facilitate reasoned scientific decisions on its management and conservation and prepare for selective breeding programme, genetic analysis of 31 genotypes was performed using RAPD and SSR molecular markers. Twenty six RAPD primers and 14 SSR primers amplified a total of 236 and 85 scoreable bands of which 86.44% and 86.02% were polymorphic. The mean coefficient of gene differentiation (Gst) was 0.388 and 0.341 indicating that 61.2% and 65.9% of the genetic variation resided within the populations. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) indicated that majority of genetic variation (94.6% using RAPD and 89% using SSR) occurred among genotypes, while the variation between the three groups (categorized as tall, medium and small plants height) was 5.4% (using RAPD and 11% (using SSR). The dendrogram obtained from NJ and STRUCTURE analysis revealed splitting of genotypes into four clusters with clear distinction between short, medium and tall height genotypes, indicated that genetic differentiations measure with respect to RAPD and SSR. However, both the markers were equally useful in providing some understanding about the genetic relationship of different genotypes of poplar that are important in the conservation and exploitation of poplar genetic resources.

Tomato is one of the most economically important vegetable crops in many parts of the world. Turkey and Iran are the main producers of tomatoes in the world. The objective of this study was to assess the genetic variation of 93 tomato landraces from East Anatolian region of Turkey and North-West of Iran, along with three commercial cultivars using 14 ISSR primers. The percentage of polymorphic loci (PPL) for all primers was 100%. The mean of expected heterozygosity (He) for the primers varied from 0.153 (UBC808) to 0.30 (UBC848). The dendrogram placed the landraces and commercial cultivars into nine groups. The genotypes originating from the same region, often located in the same group or two adjacent groups. The highest likelihood of the data was obtained when population were located into 2 sub-populations (K = 2). These sub-populations had Fst value of 0.16 and 0.21.

Abstract The study was performed to evaluate genetic variation on two Sanga type cattle found in Botswana; Tswana and Tuli using twelve microsatellite markers. All amplified loci were polymorphic with 75 and 77 alleles genotyped in the Tswana and Tuli populations, respectively. The total number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 (BM1818) to 10 (TGLA227) with total mean of 6.25 for Tswana and 6.43 for Tuli population. Almost all the markers showed high polymorphic information content (PIC) apart from BM1818 (0.375) and INTRA23 (0.393) which were moderately informative in Tswana population. Most of the markers were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium except for CSSRM60 and CSSM66 loci in Tswana population and ETH10, ETH225 and CSSM66 loci in Tuli population. A total of 103 unique alleles were genotyped across the two breeds with 49-shared, and 26 and 28 were unique to Tswana and Tuli populations, respectively. The expected heterozygosity (He) values were higher than the observed heterozygosity (Ho) in both populations; Tswana (He=0.7895±0.033 vs Ho=0.631±0.091) and Tuli (He=0.8123±0.033 vs Ho=0.556±0.021). The inbreeding coefficient was 0.200±0.002 and 0.332±0.001 in Tswana and Tuli populations, respectively. Analysis of molecular variance revealed 6.8% of the total genetic variation corresponding to differences between the two breeds and 93.2% within populations. The genetic identity between the two breeds was 56% and there were similar levels of multilocus heterozygosity and allelic diversity in the two breeds. The use of Tswana and Tuli breeds in a crossbreeding program is likely to result in minimal heterosis and therefore not recommended.

Creeping plants have unique ornamental value because they have more branches and flowers and the creeping trait is rare in crape myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica L.). In this study, the first filial generation (F1) population was derived from Lagerstroemia fauriei Koehne (standard) and L. indica “Creole” (creeping) and the backcross1 (BC1) population was derived from the backcross of F1 individual S82 (creeping) and L. fauriei. The segregation of the creeping trait was analyzed for 174 seedlings of the BC1 population to examine the linkage relationship between simple sequence repeat (SSR) molecular markers and the creeping trait. Creeping genes were screened using bulked segregant analysis combined with 322 SSR primers, which were detected with good polymorphism. The results show that two SSR markers (S364 and LYS12) were detected, with genetic distances of 23.49 centimorgan (cM) and 25.86 cM from the loci controlling the plant opening angle trait and the branching angle trait, respectively. The accuracy rate for phenotypic verification using S364 and LYS12 was 76.51% and 74.14%, respectively. Our results provide basic information for the molecular marker-assisted selective breeding and cloning of the creeping gene to improve architecture diversity in the breeding of crape myrtle.

Pinus dalatensis Ferre’(Family: Pinaceae) is an endemic plant with restricted habitats at higher altitudes in Vietnam highland. The species are now near threatened by over-exploitation and habitat destruction. The genetic variation within and among populations of P. dalatensis was investigated by 41 microsatellite (single sequence repeat, SSR) primers, but only 11 SSR primers showed polymorphism bands. In all, 70 sampled trees from six populations in Vietnam highland were analyzed in this study, samples were collected from populations located in different altitude. A total of 40 allelic variants have been detected. The mean number of alleles per locus was 2.197. The SSR data showed a genetic diversity parameters within populations with an average of I = 0.524, Ho = 0.222, He = 0.317, Fis =0.333 and Ap = 0.106. The number private alleles (Ap) was only found in four populations, the Hoa Son population showed the highest (0.273), followed by Da Chay (0.182), and value of 0.091 for all Ngoc Linh and A Yun. Analysis of molecular variance analysis showed that most genetic variation was within populations of 57.504 % and among population of 42.496 %. The population pairwise differentiations indicated that most of the populations were significantly differentiated p < 0.001 with Fst values ranged from 0.195 to 0.418. This study highlights the importance of conserving the genetic resources of P. dalatensis species

Hepatitis has become a health problem in the world. The hepatitis virus infected many people. According to the teacher of MTsN 02 Bondowoso more than 20 students have hepatitis A viral infection. The purpose of this research was to know the differences of students' knowledge about hepatitis A before and after counseling in MTsN 02 Bondowoso 2015. This study used pre-experimental (pre-post test design). This study used stratified random sampling technique, 127 students from 270 sample involved this research,and 143 students was excluded. We used questionnaires to collect data. The results showed that the mean value of the students 'knowledge about hepatitis A before counseling in MTsN 02 Bondowoso 2015 was 83.96 with the lowest value of 37.5 and the highest value was 100. The mean value of the students' knowledge about hepatitis A after counseling in MTsN 02 Bondowoso 2015 was 93.21 with the lowest value waf 62.5 and the highest value was 100. Paired t test showed that t (-9.07) > t table (1.98), the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. There was a difference between students' knowledge about hepatitis A before and after counseling in MTsN 02 Bondowoso 2015. This study showed that routine counseling by healthcare provider was important to prevent hepatitis A infection.; Keywords: counseling, knowledge of students, hepatitis

This chapter examines Merata Mita’s Mauri, the first fiction feature film in the world to be solely written and directed by an indigenous woman, as an example of “Fourth Cinema” – that is, a form of filmmaking that aims to create, produce, and transmit the stories of indigenous people, and in their own image – showing how Mita presents the coming-of-age story of a Māori girl who grows into an understanding of the spiritual dimension of the relationship of her people to the natural world, and to the ancestors who have preceded them. The discussion demonstrates how the film adopts storytelling procedures that reflect a distinctively Māori view of time and are designed to signify the presence of the mauri (or life force) in the Māori world.

This essay examines a polemic between two Baudelaire critics of the 1930s, Jean Cassou and Benjamin Fondane, which centered on the relationship of poetry to progressive politics and metaphysics. I argue that a return to Baudelaire's poetry can yield insight into what seems like an impasse in Cassou and Fondane. Baudelaire provides the possibility of realigning metaphysics and politics so that poetry has the potential to become the space in which we can begin to think the two of them together, as opposed to seeing them in unresolvable tension. Or rather, the tension that Baudelaire animates between the two allows us a new way of thinking about the role of esthetics in moments of political crisis. We can in some ways see Baudelaire as responding, avant la lettre, to two of his early twentieth-century readers who correctly perceived his work as the space that breathes a new urgency into the questions of how modern poetry relates to the world from which it springs and in which it intervenes.

This study was carried out to determine the modern office technology competencies expected of office technology and management (OTM) graduate workers by supervisors in Delta State. The study was guided by two research questions and two hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The respondents consisted of 142 supervisors, made up of 74 heads of department and directors of government establishments, and 68 managers and directors of private establishments in the study area. Descriptive survey research design was used to conduct the study and 28 – items questionnaire were used to collect data from respondents. The instrument was validated by three experts and had a Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.77. Means with standard deviations were used to answer the research questions, while t-test was used to test the null hypotheses. The extent of supervisor‟s expectations of information processing competencies did not differ significantly based on the mean ratings of male and female supervisors of OTM graduates in government and private establishments. The findings also revealed that supervisors expect much information processing and communication competencies from the OTM graduate workers. Based on the findings and the implications, it was recommended among others that, curriculum planners, business and OTM education lecturers should ensure that the competencies required for modern office technologies are entrenched and taught in the institutions to prepare the OTM graduates for the world of work.

In a spirited treatise on the ‘Origin of our Animal World’ Prof. L. Rütimeyer, in the year 1867, described the geological development and distribution of the mammalia, and the relationship of the different faunas of the past with each other and with that now existing. Although, since the appearance of that masterly sketch the palæontological material has been, at least, doubled through new discoveries in Europe and more especially in North and South America, this unexpected increase has in most instances only served as a confirmation of the views which Rutimeyer advanced on more limited experience. At present, Africa forms the only great gap in our knowledge of the fossil mammalia; all the remaining parts of the world can show materials more or less abundantly, from which the course followed by the mammalia in their geological development can be traced with approximate certainty.
