Information sustainability is not a recent discussion, but it has been intensified in recent years and has become a focal point for scientific discussion. With technological advances, especially in the informational sphere, it is necessary that institutions that deal with information are in tune with their users in different environments. In this context, the use of social media by libraries is essential to relate to their audiences, who are increasingly immersed in digital culture. Currently, Instagram has more than 500 million users worldwide, making it a great informational and virtual engagement tool for library users. In this perspective, the profile @sustentabilidadeinformacional is presented in this study as a model for libraries to be more engaged with global objectives, according to actions developed and promoted by associative movements and library associations.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to highlight how North Western University (NWU) Library used Facebook and Twitter to inform, educate and communicate with library users during the students’ protests #FeesMustFall Campaign. Design/methodology/approach This paper follows a case study approach to examine how Facebook and Twitter were used to inform, educate and communicate with library users during the #FeesMustFall Campaign. Data was obtained from the NWU Library’s Facebook Insights, the Facebook page itself and Twitter account, after which content was analysed. Practical implications Social media use policies should be developed and awareness created on their availability and meaning/implications to users. Children live in a media oriented world, and media skills need to be taught already starting from the early years. Practicing media production can be seen as a core activity for media education in early childhood. The idea is linked to the 21st century definition of media: instead of thinking of media and digital culture as a simple, one-to-one way communication, it is better to consider media as parts of systems of actions and activities. In other words, it should be seen as a form of social processes. In this case study, the authors investigated children's shared blogging in a kindergarten in two different countries. The public blog was operated between Finland and China in order to build communication between those countries and get children's viewpoints from a different culture and shared communication. Arts education (visual art) was used as a tool for the online communication and blog's content production. On the basis of this study, a shared blog could be a pedagogically functional way to teach children the social media use and interaction as a part of their early childhood education. Pedagogically organized use of social media is also the way to give young children own voice in digital media culture, and to connect other children around the world.

Technology that is overgrowing makes the audience increasingly spoiled with the existing features, including social media, which is a part of today's technological advances. Many platforms offer features that make users even more interested in sharing their excellent routines on these platforms. However, excessive use of social media and poor use harms users. One of the problems that result from overuse and poor use is the increasing incidence of depression. Individuals who experience depression tend to feel insufficient, and a feeling of wanting to end their life arises. Hence, it is necessary to know the causes and solutions to reduce the impact of excessive use of social media. This research method is quantitative. Researchers shared questionnaires to 101 respondents who were social media users aged at least 15 years. The results of this study indicate that most respondents tend to experience mood changes when using social media. That can occur because of jealousy when seeing content on their social media. Therefore, social media users must control their use of social media, for example, by being optimistic, doing fun activities, and increasing their religiosity.
