Maluku in general and Ambon municipality in particular is a region with the lowest peanut production as compared to its national production. Cambisol is one of soil type that has good soil physical properties, but it is low in N and P contents and has an acidic reaction that inhibit the growth of peanut plants.  The research was conducted in a plastic house in Halong Village, Teluk Ambon Baguala Subdistrict, from April to Juli 2012. This research used a Completely Randomized Design with two factors, i.e. factor 1 with three levels of dolomite fertilization, consisting of D0 (without dolomite), D1 (0.3g dolomite per pot), D2 (0.6 g dolomite per pot), and factor 2 with three levels of phosphate fertilization consisting of P0 (without phosphate fertilizer), P1 (0.7 g SP-36 per pot) and P2 (1.4 SP-36 per pot). The results showed that the application of SP-36 increased the number of root nodules and yield of peanut. Response was even better if accompanied by the application of dolomite. Leaf N uptake could be enhanced by application SP-36, but it was independ from the application of dolomite. The highest peanut yield of 41.83 g per pot was achieved with the fertilizer combination of D1P2  (0.3 g dolomite per pot and  1.4 g SP36 per pot)

Soil salinity is one of the most devastating environmental stresses for rice production in the coastal areas of Bangladesh. Improvement in salt tolerance of rice is an important way for the economic utilization of coastal zones. An experiment was conducted at the vinyl house of the Department of Agronomy, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Bangladesh during December 2016 to April 2017 to determine the effects of different salinity levels on the yield and yield components of some rice (Oryza sativa L.) genotype sand finally, screening of rice genotypes for salt tolerance. The experiment containing four treatments was laid out in a complete randomized design with five replications. The treatments were four levels of saline water with electrical conductivities at control (0.3 dSm-1), 5, 10 and 15dSm-1. Based on screening at germination stage, relatively salt-tolerant eleven genotypes with two check varieties were used in this experiment. The study showed that increase in salinity level significantly decreased yield and yield contributing characters of rice. However, among the eleven, three genotypes (Chapali, Patnai 23 and Soloi) were considered as moderately salt tolerant at 15 dSm-1 on the basis of their yields and yield contributing characteristics such as plant height reduction, total tiller reduction, effective tiller reduction, reduction of fertile grains per panicle, grain yield and relative grain yield. Therefore, Chapali, Patnai 23 and Soloi might be recommended as moderately salt tolerant rice genotypes. The Agriculturists 2018; 16(1) 65-77

The available natural diversity highly limits the effort to improve the production of upland-rice with delicious and aromatic flavors. However, the mutagenesis can help improving the natural diversity. The aromatic-upland rice seeds, cv. Inpago Unsoed 1, were soaked in solution of NaN3 with the doses of 0 mM, 1 mM, 2 mM, 3 mM, 4 mM, 5 mM, 6 mM, 7 mM, 8 mM, 9 mM, and 10 mM, in four replications in completely randomized design. The observation included LD50, germination percentage at first-count and final-count. Data were tabulated and analyzed with CurveExpert 1.4 software for LD50, and generalized linear model in the PROC-GLM procedure of SAS 9.1 software. The means were generated and compared through Dunnett option, at probability level of 5%, in order to determine the difference in means between mutated and non-mutated seeds. The results show that the attributes of rice physiology affected by mutagenesis are sensitivity of rice to NaN3 with LD50 at 8.84 mM, and significant effect of NaN3 on the decreasing capacity of seed germination at > 6 mM for first count, and > 7 mM for final count. Keywords: germination, inpago unsoed 1, median lethal dose, rice, sodium azide

Background: The beneficial elements availability such as silicon was determined rice growth and yield. Rice requires a different dose of silicon during the growing period. Experiment was aimed to investigate the effect of silicate levels, rice varieties and the interaction of the two on the growth and yields of two local Indonesian varieties of rice. Methods: A completely randomized design of factorial pattern with 4 replications was used in the experiment. Treatments consisted of No added SiO2 (Si-0); added 100 and 200 kg SiO2 ha-1, respectively for Si-100 and Si-200 and two local rice varieties, Pandan wangi (P1) and Mentik susu (P2). Result: The treatment had no significant effect on growth and yield of rice. Addition of 100 and 200 kg SiO2 ha-1 to P1 and P2 did not show a significant difference on the growth and yield of rice compared to control (P0). Plant height and root dry weight at P1 was lower than P2, but the 1,000-grain weight was showed, vice versa. Silicon addition up to 200 kg SiO2 ha-1 may not be recommended to be applied in rice cultivation, especially Pandan wangi and Mentik susu varieties. Improving the two varieties, further research is needed by increasing the silicon doses.
