Background: Academic burnout (AB) is an insidious process characterized by the feeling of emotional exhaustion due to the demands of academic life. Despite its impact on people's health, its prevalence has not yet been reported in Peru. The objective was to estimate the prevalence of AB, based on the emotional exhaustion experienced by university students, and the differences according to the student's year of study and sex. Method: Participants were 341 college students (76% women) from several institutions who were enrolled between the second and fourth year-of-studies. The Emotional Exhaustion Scale was used to measure students' AB. Results: The prevalence of AB was described by percentages and the comparison between groups was performed with effect size measures. The results reveal BA levels at a high level (31.4%) and risk (11.7%). On the other hand, women score higher than men in BA, but no differences were found according to the year of study. The association with anxiety and depression was moderate. Conclusions: The prevalence of academic burnout was significant, and it is associated with anxiety and depression.

The main objective of this study is to evaluate the English Language Textbook that is used for university students in a faculty of engineering. This textbook is called “SIU English Language Course ‘C’”, which is taught for engineering students in the first two semesters at Sudan International University. The main purpose of this evaluation is to analyze the textbook in order to see whether it is suitable for the engineering students. The researcher used the descriptive method in this study and used the questionnaire which is distributed for a sample taken from the students of engineering, this sample consists of (90) engineering college students. Besides, there was another questionnaire for a sample of (9) instructors who teach the same textbook. There are two aspects in the textbook that the researcher focused on to be analyzed; they are the skills and the language type. From the responses of the two questionnaires there was a common agreement from both the students and teachers was revealed and they were highly satisfied about the two aspects in the evaluated textbook. Based on the above, the findings of this study have shown that the majority of the students and instructors agreed that the skills which are used in this textbook are very satisfied and their designs suit the engineering students. On the other hand, they also agreed that textbook is quite satisfactory in terms of its language type.

Many proverbs seem to convey wisdom because they help people to reframe life's predicaments. Positive reframes, such as Every cloud has a silver lining, often draw positive implications from adverse circumstances (cf. “positive reappraisals,” “gain frames”). In contrast, negative reframes, such as All that glitters is not gold, provide helpful warnings about difficult situations, and therefore encourage proactive coping (cf. “problem-focused coping”). This study examined the validity of the distinction between positive and negative reframes and whether the distinction applies to proverbs. Six judges categorized 199 proverbs as positive or negative reframes. Results showed that the positive reframes were rated by college students as more pleasant, conceptually simpler, and more familiar than the negative reframes. Further, proverbs that were composed by students were of higher quality when they were positive rather than negative reframes. On the other hand, positive and negative reframes occurred similarly often among the 199 proverbs, and did not differ consistently in rated truth, rated imagery arousal, or reading grade level. We concluded that many proverbs can be regarded as positive or negative reframes, which constitute basic thinking strategies that help people cope with life's challenges.

This study aims to examine the laws of dowry money decoration that are common in the community. The innovation and soul of art that is channeled through décor of dowry money is proven to produce beautiful and unique works, so as to attract the attention and interest of the wider community. However, because to produce beautiful and unique works, a high level of creativity is needed, so not everyone can do it. On the one hand, this phenomenon opens up quite good business opportunities, but on the other hand, it should be watched out, because in some conditions it contains the practice of buying and selling currencies with nominal differences. Through this study, I would like to uncover the law of buying and selling practices decorating dowry money and decorating services. As I also intend to present an applicative solution for the community so that they can still channel their artistic talents without violating Shari’ah law.

Background: This research discusses the problem of the use of English citation by some college students in helping with their assignments. There is still no research about this topic, on the other hand, this is actually important for education. From the problem discussed here, the main point is to know, "Do college students often use English citations in their assignments and understand the citations they have taken?" Purpose: This research aims to know how far Indonesian students' comprehension is to the English citation which they used to help their academic writing for their college assignment. Method: The method used in this study is qualitative, the method that focused on observation to obtain a more comprehensive phenomenon study. In this research, we use data that have already been taken and collected from 62 college students and 15 of them have conducted the interview process to take further information from them. Results: It shows that the majority of college students in this research prefer to use Indonesian citations because they can understand more compared with the English one.

A Privacy Questionnaire was administered to 118 male and 142 female college students to determine differences in the patterns of privacy preferences between the sexes. The questionnaire contained factor scales for measuring six independent types of privacy. t-tests showed that the means for women were significantly higher than those for men in their preferences for Intimacy with Family and Intimacy with Friends. On the other hand, for Isolation the mean for men was significantly higher than that for women. There were no significant differences between the means for the two sexes on the remaining three dimensions, Reserve, Solitude, and Anonymity.

The chief feature in the psychological literature of Italy since my last report has been the multiplication of periodicals devoted to it. Thus we have received copies of the following new journals:—“The Annali di Freniatria,” of Turin; “Il Manicomio,” of Nocera Inferiore; “Il Pisani,” of Palermo; and “L'Anomalo,” a “Gazzettino,” published at Naples. On the other hand, I regret to say that no copies have been sent since 1888 of Lombroso's always interesting, if sometimes paradoxical, “Archivio di Psichiatria ed Antropologia Criminale.”To some extent these periodicals may be considered as equivalent to our Asylum Reports; and they doubtless show the great activity and zeal with which our specialty is studied in Italy. But from another point of view they seem to me no unmixed advantage. Each periodical is starved by the scattering of so much ability, which was formerly concentrated in fewer journals; and the space left vacant has been, to a great extent; occupied by matters of local, temporary, or secondary interest. When allowance is made for this, Italian psychological literature will be found quite equal to the high level it has attained in former years.

It is now a well established fact that high-level nutrition of the in-lamb ewe during the later stages of pregnancy results in heavy lambs of high vitality at birth and in good milking ewes. On the other hand, when ewes are poorly fed during the same period, or suffer a check, they produce underweight lambs of low vitality and have poor milk yields. While it is agreed that underweight lambs are undesirable, one is often asked whether the larger and sturdier lambs at birth maintain their superiority in later life, a problem on which relatively few results have been published. A study has therefore been made of a large number of birth and weaning weights collected as a normal routine at the Rowett Institute during the past few years.

Investigating demotivating factors can help teachers to avoid them and provide more insights on sustaining learners’ interest in FL learning. The present study aimed to analyse demotivating factors in FL learning. To obtain the findings, the present study applied a mixed method approach. A set of questionnaires adapted from Sakai and Kikuchi’s (2009) questionnaires were distributed to thirty eight university students whereas interviews were conducted to three of them. The findings indicated teacher’s competence and lack of intrinsic motivation as the most salient factors that caused demotivation among the participants. In this consideration, teachers were perceived as incompetent by the participants when teachers have poor English pronunciation and do not provide communicative classrooms. On the other hand, lack of intrinsic motivation was indicated by the loss of students’ interest in learning and their goal to be an English speaker. Providing a communicative classroom with a fluent teacher as well as promoting students’ interest in English language and culture seem to be the solutions to reduce students’ demotivation. [Penelitian tentang faktor-faktor yang menurunkan motifasi (demotivation) dapat membantu para guru untuk menghindari factor-faktor tersebut dan memberikan wawasan untuk mempertahankan minat peserta didik dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing. Penelitian ini menganalisis faktor demotivasi dalam pembelajaran Bahasa asing. Untuk memperoleh jawaban dari beberapa pertanyaan, penelitian ini menerapkan pendekatan metode campuran. Seperangkat kuesioner yang diadaptasi dari model Sakai dan Kikuchi (2009) didistribusikan kepada tiga puluh delapan mahasiswa sedangkan wawancara dilakukan terhadap tiga dari mahasiswa tersebut. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi guru dan kurangnya motivasi intrinsik merupakan faktor yang paling menonjol yang menyebabkan demotivasi di antara para peserta. Dalam hal ini, guru dianggap tidak kompeten oleh para peserta ketika guru memiliki pelafalan bahasa Inggris yang buruk dan tidak menyediakan ruang kelas yang komunikatif. Di sisi lain, kurangnya motivasi intrinsik ditunjukkan oleh hilangnya minat siswa dalam belajar dan tujuan mereka untuk berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris. Menyediakan ruang kelas yang komunikatif dengan guru yang fasih serta mempromosikan minat siswa dalam bahasa dan budaya Inggris tampaknya menjadi solusi untuk mengurangi demotivasi siswa]

This article aimed to analyze the stereotypes attributed to "egalitarian men", understood here as men who support gender equality in relation to domestic and family responsibilities as well as inclusion in the workforce. To do so, two studies were carried out. The first study investigated the attribution of stereotypes to egalitarian men through a single open question. A total of 250 university students participated in this study, of which 51.1% were male, and their average age was 21.5 years (SD = 4.39). The second study analyzed the attribution of stereotypes to egalitarian or traditional men and women in a work context considered masculine. Participants included 221 university students with a mean age of 21.9 years (SD = 4.19), the majority (54.3%) being male. Taken together, the results of the two studies indicate that the egalitarian man is perceived as fragile and possibly homosexual. On the other hand, he is also seen as being more competent than traditional men.

Gambling behavior and problem gambling of college students were investigated in universities far from and close to a large casino. A survey of 17 gambling activities was given and the South Oaks Gambling Screen was completed by 1579 students. Approximately half of the students were enrolled in universities near a casino and the other half far from a major casino. Gender and proximity differences were hypothesized and observed. Males engaged in more gambling activities than females. Students close to a casino manifested more serious problem gambling than students far from a casino. Gender by proximity interactions are reported. This investigation supports the idea that context and proximity to gaming venues may have exposure or accessibility effects on university students' gambling behavior.
