This article studies the comparative analysis of epistemology and philosophy of music in the Islamic civilization according to the viewpoints of medieval scholars in the Islamic civilization. The scholars selected are al-Kindi, Ikhwan al-Safa, al-Farabi and Ibn Sina. The basis of this research begins from the polemic among scholars concerning the legal status of using music, whether permissible or forbidden, due to the absence of authenticated textual proof (nas qat’i) from al-Quran and protracted debate over the authenticity of hadith on the prohibition of music. Behind the debate is that music was applied as an Islamic psychotherapy method of treatment in hospitals of the medieval Islamic civilization such as Fez Hospital in Morocco, cAdudi Hospital in Baghdad, al-Mansuri Hospital in Cairo, Nuri Hospital in Damascus, al-Arghuni Hospital in Allepo, Gevher Nesibe Hospital and Giyaseddin Keyhusrev Medical Hospital in Kayseri, Keykavus Hospital in Sivas, Turan Malik Hospital in Divrighi, Pervane Bey Hospital in Tokat, Atabey Ferruh Hospital in Cankiri, Ali bin Pervane Hospital in Kastamonu, Amasya Hospital in Amasya, Fatih Hospital in Istanbul, Edirne Sultan Bayezid II Hospital in Edirne and Suleymaniye Hospital in Istanbul. This research uses qualitative methodology and library research method by analyzing various primary and secondary sources. Research results show that there is a slight discrepancy of views between supporters of neo-Pythagorean (al-Kindi and Ikhwan al-Safa) and Aristotelian (al-Farabi and Ibn Sina) schools of thought from the epistemological viewpoint. However, in terms of philosophy, there seems to be points of similarity in the matter of enhancement of moral and spiritual values for the sake of human well-being, whether physical or spiritual.

A lack of policy and regulatory frameworks to administer and recognize marriage institutions especially among Rohingya refugees in Malaysia gives rise to various legal and social implications, non-compliance with Sharia law, as well as complications in the process of refugee resettlement to third countries. This research aims to discuss this issue including its repercussions from the legal and Sharia perspectives in Malaysia. It employs a qualitative methodology using library research and semi-structured interviews based on the purposive sampling technique with a number of respondents from the Islamic Religious Departments of Selangor, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan. These three states were selected taking into consideration their socio-economic conditions and employment opportunities, which serve as attractive destinations for migrants and refugees from various countries. This study reveals that the unrecognized legal status of refugees complicates the registration of Rohingya marriages in this country. Additionally, state autonomy in setting out the policies, laws and guidelines on the registration of marriages and divorces of Muslim refugees in Malaysia creates divergence in the management of their marriages. A streamlined and detailed set of guidelines should be finalized between the states and the relevant federal agencies so that marriages among Muslim refugees, including the Rohingya, can be better regulated, culminating in preservation of their rights and of Islamic law.

Islamic economics has existed since the start of Islamic civilization. However, Islamic economic thoughts established by Indonesian scholars are limited. This exploratory research was carried out to determine the spiritual values of Islamic economics on Hamka's works entitled Tasawuf Modern. Primary and secondary data were collected from Hamka's works entitled Tasawuf Modern and from several papers or books that are relevant to the focus of the research. The data collected were analyzed by combining topics relevant to Islamic economics in modern Sufism and other secondary sources. Content analysis was used for data analysis. The results of this study revealed that, according to Hamka, the richest people are those that need the least. The true wealth lies in the contentment of the soul (qana'ah). Good wealth represents virtue and prohibiton for extravagancy and excessive consumerism. Further, humans need to be in between to carry out good deeds. The results of this study contribute to enriching the discourse of Islamic economic thought, especially in Islamic economic ethics and the role of ethics in business.

This chapter demonstrates how Latin American governments with large populations of migrants with precarious legal status in the United States are working together to promote policies focusing on their well-being and integration. It identifies the context in which these processes of policy diffusion and collaboration have taken place as well as their limitations. Notwithstanding the differences in capacities and motivations based on the domestic political and economic contexts, there is a convergence of practices and policies of diaspora engagement among Latin American countries driven by the common challenges faced by their migrant populations in the United States and by the Latino population more generally. These policies, framed as an issue of rights protection and the promotion of migrants’ well-being, are presented as a form of regional solidarity and unity, and are also mobilized by the Mexican government as a political instrument serving its foreign policy goals.

In the Southeast Asian context, legal status is ambiguous; it enlarges some risks while lessening others. As is true in many contexts across the Global South, while documentation clearly serves the interest of the state by offering them greater control over migrant bodies, it is less clear that it serves the goals, needs, and well-being of migrants.

The contemporary world is endowed with increasingly diverse spiritual and cultural perspectives, yet little is known about the spiritual concerns and spiritual resilience of Māori from Aotearoa New Zealand at the end of life. A context is provided for the value of spiritual assessment and identification of spiritual needs or concerns. Spiritual concerns and the desire to attain a state of ka ea (fulfillment, gratitude, or peace) may point to interventions, helping activities, or referrals that guide treatment. We reflect on qualitative findings from the 2017–2020 Pae Herenga study of 61 caregiving families, their helping professionals, and religious/spiritual leaders. We explore essential spiritual values and practices that support kaumātua (older tribal people) who have a life-limiting illness in achieving a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment at the end of life. Three themes emerged: the relational is spiritual, the need to live into the future, and value of spiritual end-of-life care. While some scholars have lamented the lack of culturally appropriate rapid assessment instruments, we suggest that a more open-ended assessment guide is better suited to understand key elements of spiritual diversity and spiritual concerns, particularly the spiritual strengths and resources that lead to well-being and even thriving at life’s end. Finally, learning about spiritual diversity can assist others to reconnect to lost meanings and regain a more holistic and centred view of life.

The main focus of Orientalist thought is nothing but to reconstruct and influence Islamic civilization. Their enthusiasm to activate orientalism is increasingly challenged by the presence of Islam as a religion that has followers of most of the world's population. One of the actions of orientalism towards the Islamic world is to start a research movement on the Qur'an and al-Hadith which are the basis of the law and guidelines of Muslims. Not far from the critics of the Qur'an and al-Hadith, they also deconstructed aspects of the development of science, Islamic law, and even the originality of Islamic history. Some famous orientalism figures, one of them is Reinhart Dozy, a famous orientelism from the Netherlands with the concept of literacy in the history of Islamic civilization in Spain. Even though he received a lot of criticism and appreciation from both orientalists and Muslim thinkers, his literary work has had a great influence on Islamic civilization. The discussion steps of this study are entirely carried out using qualitative research that is library research. To be more useful and function properly, this paper is equipped with an explanation using the method of description, interpretation and analysis of data in each discussion. This is done, none other than to focus the discussion to produce a consistent and comprehensive understanding.

Conflicts are unavoidable in human life. Thus, for human beings, the attitude of forgiveness is of importance to be well-embedded and sustainably constructed. Resting upon the aforesaid premises, the present study conducted a library research to reveal how forgiveness is viewed from the perspectives of positive psychology and Islam. 102 scientific works reviewed, 58 works were finally selected to be scrutinized in depth. This study revealed that the discourses in the field of positive psychology imply that forgiveness attitude is of importance to be embedded in human beings and continuously constructed by virtue of its positive natural impacts on mental health, good relationships, physical health, and positive well-being. Furthermore, as informed by Islamic teachings, the attitude of forgiveness is also suggested to be well and continuously embedded. As the best Islamic role model for the end-time people, the Prophet Muhammad PBUH already exemplified that humans are indeed to always be forgiving and even to pray for others for the sake of good things that Allah SWT will bestow to. It is worth noting that both positive psychology and Islam encourage humans to be forgiving individuals.
