The android operating system is basically an operating system for mobiles and is rapidly gaining market share, with dozens of smart phones and tablets either released or set to be released. It is mobile operating system that uses a modified version of the Linux kernel 2.6. Google developed Android as part of the Open Handset Alliance, a group of more than 30 mobile and technology companies working to open up the mobile handset environment. Android’s development kit supports many of the standard packages used by Jetty, due to that fact and Jetty’s modularity and lightweight foot print, it was possible to port Jetty to it so that it will be able to run on the Android platform.

Technology is being used and improved by human beings over a long period of time now and Smartphones is one of them. Smart Phones contain touch screen, built in keyboard, high resolution camera, front side camera for video conferencing, etc. They are used for making and receiving calls, sending and receiving messages, accessing the Internet, digital media, incorporating audio/video recording etc. Different smart phones have different operating systems and mobile applications are developed for each operating system in smart phones, tablet or mobile phones, in order to serve the needs of the user. These apps are either preinstalled or downloadable from online app market that can do almost everything. Apps make a mobile be like a portable computer having multi core processors, gigabytes of memory and a real operating system. Originally mobile apps were made available for only calling, messaging and informational purposes like calendar, weather forecast, e- mail, etc. With improvement in technology and increase in user demands, developers started making apps for other purposes like games, banking, video chats etc. Some apps are also used to present data in the same format as on a computer website and also allow you to download content that you can use when there is no Internet. There are many apps available in market today for different Operating Systems in which Android is having the maximum market share these days.

These days, peoples expected to move around carrying their mobile devices, talking to friends, completing their work, accessing emails etc. His/her pictures, work, study, even relationship (friends, and family) all is in the mobile device. Therefore, mobile devices (especially smart phones) become an ideal target for different attacks. Mobile computing also becomes important in enterprises and organizations. Therefore, it is important to illustrate the state of art on vulnerabilities and threats on mobile device. This chapter is addressed to explain mobile computing concept, features, architecture, operating systems, and risks to mobile devices. Mobile operating system structureand characteristicsare demonstrated. The author also illustrates mobile security issues, and type of threats to mobile devices. Finally, features and security models of two popular smartphone operating systems, Android and iOS, are illustrated. It was found that the security models of these two smartphones is immature and do not meet the enterprises security policies.

This chapter introduces the enormous impact of mobile computing on both companies and individuals. Companies face many issues related to mobile computing. For example: which devices will be supported by the organization? which devices will fulfill the business objectives? which form factor will win? which features and networks will future devices offer? which operating systems will they run? what will all this cost? what are the security issues involved? what are the business drivers? This chapter will discuss the major business drivers in the mobile computing field, and provide an analysis of the top two operating systems that are currently running the majority of mobile devices. These platforms are the 1) Palm operating system (OS), and 2) Microsoft Windows CE operating system. The chapter will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each operating system and discuss market share and future growth.

The problems of plating thickness measurements of industrial products are often encountered in industrial production. This paper describes the electrolytic plating thickness tester how to works, proposes the electrolytic plating thickness tester based on Android platform how to design, proposes the system consists of two parts: a panel PC with android operating system and a thickness actuator, describes the design of the hardware and software. The tests proved that the instrument is easy to operate, high accuracy, low production cost, easy to carry, etc. It meets the requirements of the user.

E-farmers system is a technology-based commerce system (e-commerce) that can be accessed via a website, used for assisting farmers in selling rice product directly to consumers. However, due to the constraint in the ownership of computer and laptop, farmers and consumers as the users of the website ladangku.id now use mobile devices instead. For this reason, the researcher developed an e-farmers system that was initially only accessible via the website but now can be accessed via mobile devices with the Android operating system. Because the website-based system and mobile-based system are different, it is necessary to have a mobile-based e-farmer system design that is integrated with the website-based system. The method used was Research and Development (R&D) method by developing the existing system, and the final product was in the form of a design of e-farmer application system that can work on Android platform.

Nowadays, users collect points by stickers after they purchase products. However, to issue stickers and to exchange points are inconvenient to store staffs and users. In addition, the traditional way for points collection increases the business cost because of additional cards and stickers. In this paper, we propose a novel, practical and integrated application system to resolve above issues namely NFC-enabled Point Collection Application System (NPCAS). NPCAS mainly consists of three subsystems including user-side APP, store-side APP and backend management system. The user-side APP let users to quickly complete points management, for instance, they can accumulate points by communicating with the store-side APP through Near Field Communication (NFC) technique. The store-side APP calculates the points of each transaction and updates them to the backend management system. Then, the users can inquire their current points, exchange details, exchangeable commodities and so on. Android operating system is the mainstream on smart phones so that the Android-based APPs attract a lot of attention. Accordingly, we develop both APPs based on Java, XML, Android Software Development Kit (SDK) and Android Studio. The backend management system is built by Apache server, PHP module, PHP files and MySQL database. The format that we used on information exchange between backend management system and both APPs is JavaScript Object Notation (JSON). In a word, NPCAS greatly simplifies the procedures of points collection and management.

In recent years, the demand of kiosk devices has increased significantly for relaying information in organizations, institutions, or any other service centers. They have become a better alternative for traditional human assistance or reception desks. However, there are no dynamic operating systems or user interfaces available for kiosk devices. This paper represents a development of an operating system for kiosk devices called ‘Nekray', which was built on Linux Kernel environment. It was designed to be dynamic, fast, user-friendly, and user interactive. The developed operating system avails the option to change the data of its features as per requirement. It also supports plug and play feature and can be installed in any low-cost hardware board. Furthermore, built-in AI is also a part of the developed system that performs its features through image processing. The system maintains the privacy and interactive transition of data to its users on kiosk devices.

The ability to securely join IoT Devices to Wi-Fi networks is an on-going area of research. This paper describes how Nasrin & Radcliffe's theoretical “novel minimalist IoT network joining protocol” has been mapped to real world hardware and implemented using the Android operating system. For the first time the theory is proven to be practically viable but it is also shown that the user interface is not sufficiently simple for the everyday user. This paper proposes and implements a new user interface paradigm that dramatically simplifies the process and makes the joining process accessible to a much larger range of users.  For intensely cost sensitive applications an alternative process is proposed that has the possibility of even further simplifying the user experience. Finally the compatibility of the protocol with a  variety of operating systems is assessed.
