scholarly journals The Effect of Teaching Science Using Hawkins Method in Developing Scientific Curiosity among Students of Intermediate Basic Stage

This study aimed at investigating the effect of teaching science using Hawkins methods in developing scientific curiosity among students of 6th grade from one of Zarqa city school/Jordan in the first semester of the academic year 2018/2019. The subjects of the study consisted of 63 students, divided into two groups: the experimental group of 32 students was taught the “Electricity in our life” unit using Hawkins method and the control group 31 was taught the same unit by the traditional method. To achieve the objectives of the study, a quasi-experimental approach was used. A valid and reliable curiosity scale was prepared  and applied on the subjects of the study before conducting the experiment to test the equivalence of the two groups, and after conducting  the experiment to  achieve the aim of the study. The result revealed statistically significant differences  in the students' curiosity due to the method of teaching in favor of the experimental group which was taught according to Hawkins method. In light of the result, the study recommended that science teachers should use Hawkins method in teaching science.

This study aimed at finding the effect of using McCarthy's' Model (4 MAT) on 8th grade students' retention of learning in Jordan. The subjects of the study consisted of 86 students from the eighth grade from one Zarqa city school in the second semester of the academic year 2014/2015. The sample was divided into two groups: the experimental group which was taught using 4 MAT model, and the control group which learned in the traditional way. To achieve the objectives of the study, a quasi-experimental approach was followed, and the researcher prepared a valid and reliable achievement test which aimed at measuring students' achievement and retention of learning science. The results revealed statistically significant differences in the students' achievement and retention of learning science due to the method of teaching, and in favor of the experimental group which learned by using the 4-MAT model. In the light of the results, the study recommended the invitation of science teachers to use 4 MAT model in their teaching.

The scaffolded reading experience framework consists of a set of prereading, during-reading, and post-reading activities to use with any genre of text, including fiction and nonfiction. The aim of this study was the effectiveness of scaffolded reading experience in teaching reading comprehension to the students of Musi Rawas University? The method used in this research was quasi-experimental method. The population of this study was all of the students of Musi Rawas University. The sample of this study was students of accounting study progrom in first semester taken through convenience non random sampling. The data were collected through a written test. It was pre-test and post test. The data analyzed through t-test formula. From this study it was found that the students’ pre-test average score in the experimental group was 55 and in the control group was 53.91. Meanwhile the students’ post-test average score in the experimental group was 80 and the students’ average score in the control group was 75. In addition of t-obtained were 2.049 where the value of t-table was 1.684 at df 74 in significance level of 0.05 and with one-tailed testing. Since the value of t-obtained was higher than the critical value of the t-table (2.049>1.684), it can be concluded that, teaching reading comprehension by using scaffolded reading experience (SRE) to the students of Musi Rawas University was effective.

This research focuses on students’ tactic assessments of 3 correlations with illustrated 2-step strategic map and animated presentations in stoichiometry. The participants were divided into 2 learning groups: the experimental and the control group by quasi-experimental approach. Most of all, experimental group participants have been contingent on critical performances of thinking capabilities in accordance with tactic fulfillments of 3 correlations helpfully. In contrast with statistic findings of post-tests, experimental group participants get more formulated goals of individual learning in answering 5 algorithmic and conceptual pairs of achievement test items than those of control group participants. Students’ shift of reasoning from model-based to case-based requires them to explore an effective mental cognition and responses for full-fledged performances of problem-solving skills. After tactic fulfillments for 3 study objectives of visualized developments, experimental group participants have upgraded a distinct learning accumulation and project-based feedback at their best learning performances. The objective of the research was to determine the incidence of the use of GeoGebra in the learning process of graph of functions of the subject of Mathematics 1 in the students of the first semester of the School of Electronic Engineering in Telecommunications and Networks of the Polytechnic School of Chimborazo. The research is bibliographic, descriptive and quasi-experimental, to which a hypothesis to be demonstrated was proposed. A curricular plan was considered which was developed by a control group (traditional method - 38 students) and an experimental group (use of GeoGebra - 37 students). The groups were evaluated in 2 parts, in the (Pre) and (Post) phases through an evaluation rubric composed of different activities. An intervention plan was applied for the experimental group that allowed to establish an improved scenario to the traditional one. The obtained data from each group represented the academic performance, which was tabulated, analyzed and interpreted. Finally, the results were subjected to a Ztest, which allowed to determine the use of GeoGebra as an academic support tool that has a positive impact on the teaching-learning process of representation of the results of the graphs of functions.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of authentic childhood games in teaching English. The study group of the research consists of 43 5 year old kindergarten students. The study was carried out in the first semester of 2014-2015 academic year. An experimental method was used in this study to state the effects of teaching English vocabulary through authentic childhood games. There were 22 students in the experimental group and 21 students in the control group. To the experimental group the topics were taught through authentic childhood games. Same topics were taught to the control group through traditional methods. According to the results, it is seen that teaching English vocabulary through authentic childhood games have positive impact on academic success. Keywords: authentic childhood games, kindergarten, teaching English

The objectives of this research was to find out whether or not there was any significant difference in vocabulary mastery between students who were taught by using talking stick method or students who were taught without using talking stick method. The research was limited on word classes consisted of noun, adjective and verb in descriptive texts with the topic of the material was animal, people, thing, and places.This research was conducted by using quantitative method with a quasi-experimental group design. The experimental group students were taught by using Talking Stick method, while the control group students were not taught by using Talking Stick method. The samples were 74 students that were taken from the eight grade students of MTs Annajah Petaling in academic year 2015/2016. The data were obtained through test, observation and documentation. The result of the test was analyzed by using paired sample t-test in SPSS 16 (Statistical Package for Social science).Based on the results analysis, there was a significance different between students who were taught by using Talking Stick method and the students who were not taught by using Talking Stick method. It was known from the result of mean of post-test in the experimental group (67.70) was higher than the mean of post-test in the control group (65.54). In addition, there was a significant difference in vocabulary mastery between students’ who were taught by using Talking Stick method and those who were not. Therefore, Talking Stick method was one of effective factor that could improve students’ vocabulary mastery.

The present study aims to identify the effectiveness of a rational behavioral emotive program in reducing test anxiety among university students with high academic achievement in Riyadh. The author adopted the quasi-experimental approach. The sample comprised (26) students with high academic achievement who were encountering test anxiety at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU) in Riyadh. The participants were divided into two groups: An experimental group of (13) students and a control group of (13) students. The author also used the test anxiety scale (Spielberger, 1972) and designed the rational behavioral emotive program using new electronic applications. The results showed statistically significant differences between the average scores of the experimental group students in the pre and posttests in favor of the post-test. There were statistically significant differences between the average scores of the two groups in the post-test of the scale in favor of the experimental group. Furthermore, there were no statistically significant differences between the average scores of the experimental group in the post and successive tests of the scale.

Writing process involves thinking and creative skills. To stimulate the students’ thoughts to express their ideas, clustering technique is effective brainstorming activity to help the students explore their ideas and write consistently. Thus, the objective of this study is to find out whether or not there is any significant difference between the students who were taught in writing descriptive paragraph through Clustering Technique and those who were not. The population of this study was all of the eighth grade students of SMP Srijaya Negara Palembang in academic year 2016/2017. There were three classes that consist of 113 students. The samples of this study were VIII C as a control group and VIII B as an experimental group. This study was conducted by using quasi experimental method with nonequivalent control group design. Then, the data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The result of independent sample t-test shows that the value of sig. (2-tailed) was 0.00 < 0.05 in the level of significant 0.05. While, the value of t-obtained was 5.213 higher than the critical value of t-table was 1.665 with degree of freedom 76. It can be concluded that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. It means that there was any significant difference between the students who were taught in writing descriptive paragraph through Clustering Technique and those who were not.

Abstrak: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi experimental yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran berbasis proyek terhadap hasil belajar kimia materi pokok sistem periodik unsur pada siswa kelas X SMAN 1 Mataram tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Hasil belajar dalam penelitian ini meliputi hasil belajar dalam bentuk pengetahuan dan hasil belajar dalam bentuk sikap (kerjasama siswa). Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu tes multiple choice. Data hasil penelitian yang dianalisis statistik dengan uji t dan lembar observasi kerjasama yang dianalisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada kelas eksperimen  diperoleh nilai rata-rata 84,62 dengan ketuntasan klasikal 71,79%, sedangkan pada kelas kontrol diperoleh nilai rata-rata 83,95 dengan ketuntasan klasikal 71,05%. Hasil uji-t pada taraf signifikan 5% diperoleh Fhitung 0,28 < Ftabel 1,68 yang berarti Ho pada penelitian ini diterima. Hasil observasi kerjasama pada kelas eksperimen memiliki tingkat kerjasama yang sama dengan kelas kontrol yaitu “sangat tinggi”. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran berbasis proyek tidak berpengaruh lebih baik terhadap hasil belajar kimia materi pokok sistem periodik unsur kelas X SMAN 1 Mataram tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Kata-kata kunci : Pembelajaran berbasis proyek, hasil belajar, sistem periodik unsur  Abstract: This study was a quasi experimental that purpose to know the effect of project-based learning on learning achievements on elements periodic system for  X grade students of SMAN 1 Mataram in 2013/2014 academic year. The students’ achievements were knowledge and attitude aspects (student’s cooperation). The instrument uses for data collection are a multiple choice test which is statistical analyzed by applying t-test and observation sheet about student cooperation which is analyzed descriptively. The study revealed that experimental group obtained 84.62 on average with classical mastery was 71.79% whereas the control group obtained 83.95 on average with classical mastery was 71.05%. The results of t-test on 5% level of significant shows Facc 0.28 < Ftable 1.68 which means that Ho is accepted. The result of observation sheets shows that whether the students in experimental group or in control group have an equal level of cooperation. It shows “very high” level of cooperation. In summary, project-based learning has no effect on the students’ chemistry learning achievements on elements periodic system  for X grade students of SMAN 1 Mataram in 2013/2014 academic year. Keywords: Project-based learning, learning result, elements periodic system

This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of the use of the systemic approach to improve students’ understanding on adjectives materials related to the use, usage, synonym, antonym, spelling, pronunciation, collocation, meaning, and order. This research employed a quasi-experimental design. The populations were the third-semester students of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar in academic year 2017/2018. The sample consisted of 40 students chosen from two classes by using purposive sampling technique then were divided into two groups, namely experimental and control group. The difference between experimental and control class was based on the teaching technique used during the treatment. While the experimental class was taught by using systemic approach, control class was taught by using the conventional method.The instruments of this research were adjective tests. The data was analyzed by using statistical analysis on SPSS for Windows 20.0 program. As per data, experimental group experienced improvement on their understanding on adjectives in terms of use, usage, meaning, spelling, pronunciation, synonym, antonym, collocation, and order indicated by the post-test mean score (77.1) which was significantly higher than that of the control class (59.7) and the gain of experimental group (31.2) which was higher than control group (17.4). Another supporting indicator is the t-test value which was higher than the t-table value (4.022 > 1.75). Furthermore, the researcher found that the element of adjective which experienced most significant increase on its mastery happened on the usage, while the lowest one was the collocation. The result of this research indicated that there was significant improvement between experimental and control class. It means that systemic approach that was applied in experimental group can improve the students’ mastery on adjectives material. Thus it was concluded that the systemic approach was effective to improve students’ on adjectives.
