Abstract The paper examines the relationship existing between commercial property investment returns and public capital investment (budgetary expenditures) on road infrastructure in Fadikpe area, Minna (Nigeria) with the aim of determining the degree of impact of public capital investment on commercial property investment returns. The paper addresses a pertinent policy and practice question on the impact of government’s budgetary expenditures on real estate sector of the economy. Government increasingly faces funding challenges in providing new infrastructure or improvement of existing ones, thus, keen to know the areas of greater impact of its expenditures and the extent to which the benefits from the impact may go in augmenting or providing funds (through tax) for new road infrastructure provision or repair of existing ones. The research uses the before-and-after case method to identify an increase in property values (rental and sales) as measured by the trend of property investment returns before-and-after budgetary expenditures. The results show that commercial property investment returns in the area increased after budgetary expenditure (road construction) took place. The results form the basis upon which the government should consider more budgetary allocations and expenditures related to road transportation infrastructure in its budgetary allocation decisions. The results also quantify the proposed alternative source of funding (property tax) that can be harnessed via capturing the increase in property investment returns.

Sports entrepreneurship has been considered an important part of sports organisations when overcoming crisis situations. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of the crisis derived from COVID-19 on sports entrepreneurship and whether there are differences in the prediction of entrepreneurship on service quality in non-profit sports clubs. To this end, 145 sports clubs were analysed before and after the outbreak of the virus in society. Paired sample-t tests were carried out to determine the differences in variables studied before (Time I) and after (Time II) the COVID-19 outbreak, and correlations and hierarchical linear regressions were used to analyse the relationship between the variables studied in the two different stages. The results obtained show that risk-taking and innovation are significantly higher after the appearance of COVID-19, while proactivity has not undergone significant changes. Finally, the relationship between sports entrepreneurship and service quality is positive and significant in both stages but stronger before the crisis.

Research on the role of the APIP review of the Ministry/agency Work Plan and Budget document to determine the impact on the efficiency of ministry/agency spending (case study at the Ministry of Religion). The method used in this study uses simple linear regression with dummy. The use of linear regression is used to examine the relationship between independent variables (certain types of expenditure) and dependent variables (total expenditure). Whereas, dummy is used to find out before and after the APIP review is done. Throughout the author's search, this research has never been done. Based on the results of linear regression obtained, the APIP review significantly had a positive effect on official travel expenditure and honorarium but did not significantly affect building spending and equipment.

This chapter examines the built form of deindustrialization through an examination of the metropolitan geography of factory construction after 1945. It shows the little capital investment that flowed to Chicago, while the suburbs became the prime location for the construction of new industrial facilities. It also discusses how employment loss in the central city of Chicago was rooted in site selection decisions made by the managers of industrial and financial firms about more profitable locations for fixed-capital investment. The chapter focuses on factory construction that provides a different perspective on the impact that industrial change had on the built environment. It looks at studies of the relationship between local economic change, politics, and place dependency that have demonstrated the tenuous hold that places have on productive forces and the unequal relationship that exists between place and capital.

Whether road infrastructure promotes export is still a concerned issue debated in the previous studies. In this paper, we conduct a panel data using two data sources from year 2003 to 2013, examining the relationship between road investment and export. The primary results show that road investment significantly restricts local export. A further test indicates that the road infrastructure benefits service sector, 1) abstract more private capital investment on service sector than manufacturing sector, 2) reduce the employee of tradable sector. Then manufacturing sector was constrained. The results are robust when a set test is carried out.

Background.High serum uric acid (UA) is associated with increased cardiovascular (CV) risk in the general population. The impact of UA on CV events and mortality in CKD is unclear.Objective.To assess the relationship between UA and prognosis in hemodialysis (HD) patients before and after renal transplantation (TX).Methods.1020 HD patients assessed for CV risk and followed from the time of inception until CV event, death, or TX (HD) or date of TX, CV event, death, or return to dialysis (TX).Results.821 patients remained on HD while 199 underwent TX. High UA (≥428 mmol/L) was not associated with either composite CV events or mortality in HD patients. In TX patients high UA predicted an increased risk of events (P=0.03, HR 1.6, and 95% CI 1.03–2.54) but not with death. In the Cox proportional model UA was no longer significantly associated with CV events. Instead, a reduced GFR (<50 mL/min) emerged as the independent risk factor for events (P=0.02, HR 1.79, and % CI 1.07–3.21).Conclusion.In recipients of TX an increased posttransplant UA is related to higher probability of major CV events but this association probably caused concurrent reduction in GFR.

Based on social network theory and dynamic capability theory, a theoretical model is constructed that specifies the process through which relational embeddedness affects enterprise value. The authors selected 612 Shenzhen and Shanghai A-share manufacturing enterprises in the CSMAR database as sample enterprises, and a multiple regression analysis method was used to test hypotheses. The results show that (1) there is an inverted “U” relationship between relational embeddedness and enterprise value; that is, the enterprises’ relational embeddedness has an “inflection point” effect on the enterprise value; (2) the enterprises’ resource integration capability plays an intermediate role in the impact of relational embeddedness on enterprise value; (3) the market environmental dynamics and technology environmental dynamics play negative regulatory roles in the inverted “U” relationship between relational embeddedness and enterprise value, and they play different regulatory roles before and after the enterprise relational embeddedness reaches the “inflection point”; that is, before the relational embeddedness reaches the inflection point, the technology environmental dynamics plays a major negative regulatory role, while after the relational embeddedness reaches the inflection point, the market environmental dynamics plays a major negative regulatory role. Compared with the market environmental dynamics, the impact of technology environmental dynamics on the relationship between relational embeddedness and enterprise value is more significant; that is, the effect of relational embeddedness on enterprises value is more sensitive to the technology environmental dynamics.

The considerations presented in the paper concern the impact of Covid-19 on sales possibilities in the pre-paid system and development perspectives of the researched business entity. As part of its operations, this entity is responsible for the supply of fuel to nearly 4,500 customers conducting business operations throughout Poland. The study was carried out by means of the method of quantitative analysis of economic data. The acquired data constituted a closed set of 518 479 contacts collected as a result of reporting the work of the call center department. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the possibilities of acquiring new customers by the entity that sells pre-paid fuels and the prospects for its future development. The analyzes allowed showing the relationship, before and after the introduction of socioeconomic restrictions, between the number of sales contacts made and their effectiveness. It was proved that lockdown caused changes in the scope of managing executive operations within the call center of the entity. This, in turn, affected operational and management decisions at both ownership and management levels.

Capital investment and profitability are the most important factors in every firms. Capital investment will determine profitability of the firm by having efficient and effective investment portfolio to the firm. This study investigates the relationship of capital investment and profitability among Malaysia listed construction firms from 2001-2014. Furthermore, this study also analyzes the impact of capital investment on profitability in different economic sub-periods. In addition, this study also used Pooled OLS analysis and fixed effect analysis to analyze and determine the relationship between dependent and independent variables. I.e.: capital investment such as investment to asset, capital expenditure and current capital expenditure along with profitability such as return on asset and return on equity as well as the control variables namely firm size and leverage. The overall results revealed that capital expenditure have significant relationship with return on asset and return on equity. On the other hand, the relationship between capital investment and profitability are differ across different economic sub-periods will produce different outcome. Investment to asset had significant impact towards return on asset and return on equity during pre-crisis period and post-crisis period but during Global Financial Crisis period current capital expenditure has the largest impact towards profitability of the firm.

Ban the Box (BTB) laws are an anti-discrimination policy intended to promote employment for persons with criminal records. However, research on law and organizations shows that firms often fail to comply with legal directives or engage in symbolic compliance that fails to alter day-to-day business practices. We consider whether BTB contributed to attitudinal or behavioral shifts among hiring managers and changes in job applications. We analyze a unique set of in-depth interviews (N = 30) and entry-level job applications (N = 305) collected from the same workplaces in 2008 and 2016, assessing the impact of state BTB legislation. We find: (1) that one in five organizations were noncompliant, with noncompliance twice as likely among employers who discriminated against applicants with criminal records pre-BTB and that widespread lack of knowledge and lack of enforcement of BTB appears to affect noncompliance; (2) organizations maintained considerable continuity in hiring practices and attitudes between 2008 and 2016, regardless of personnel changes and statewide implementation of BTB; and (3) post-BTB, strong warnings about criminal background checks at later stages of the hiring process emerged as an alternative source of gatekeeping. These findings contribute to the law and organizations literature by highlighting the importance of enforcement and limits of law for combating discrimination.

Background/Aim: Scales used to collect perceptual ratings related to a speaker’s gender are widely used in gender affirming voice training for trans individuals. Such scales may be used as outcome measures to gain insight into whether training has helped clients meet personal goals related to gender expression. These scales are also widely used in general research investigating the relationship between vocal characteristics and perceptions of speaker gender. However, past studies in these areas have varied in the terminology used to label rating scales and the impact of this variation is currently unknown. Additionally, research has not yet fully explored the relationship between self- and listener-ratings of trans participant voices and trans participant satisfaction with voice, and whether or not these relationships change after trans participants undertake gender affirming voice training. This research paper aimed to explore these relationships and address these research gaps. Methods: A group of 34 trans participants were asked to rate their voices before and after participating in gender affirming voice training. Trans participant voice samples from before and after training were also presented to a group of 25 listeners for rating. Perceptual ratings were made on two Visual Analogue Scales (VAS) with anchors ‘very feminine/very masculine’ and ‘very female/very male’. Trans participants also rated their satisfaction with their current voice on a VAS with anchors ‘very satisfied/very unsatisfied’. Correlation coefficients were calculated to investigate the relationship between collected ratings. Results: Differences in scale labels were found to have minimal impact on ratings made by both trans participants and listeners. Trans participant self-ratings were found to correlate with listener ratings, but this correlation was not strong Trans participant self-ratings had a consistently stronger relationship with their self-rated vocal satisfaction. The study contributed new findings that these differences may be more pronounced after trans participants have completed voice training. Discussion/conclusion: This study suggests that results from past studies that have used differently labelled scales to collect ratings related to gender perception based on voice are suitable to compare. This study also discusses the implications reported differences between trans participant self-ratings and listener ratings may have for research and clinical practice.
