Abstract In Distance education, learning depends on the ability of the learner to manage his/her learning process, both through the creation of appropriate objectives, and by adopting strategies to achieve them. The role of the teacher is to develop an efficient methodology with flexibility over the learners’ special characteristics and to create conditions to enable the learners to manage their learning process. This research aims to investigate the parameters which are involved in synchronous teleconference and which lead to effective learning through the support of an autonomous environment. The research was conducted with students of the Annual Training Program for Teachers of Higher School of Pedagogical and Technological Education Department in Patras. The results show that teleconference as teaching tool can support the autonomous learning and can enhance personalisation as this process can help students to learn and develop skills by receiving efficient support.

Islamic education today has been tarnished by many students who commit immorality and violate other religious norms. Thus, currently, madrasah principals really need to make policies to revive the religious atmosphere within the madrasah in order to foster student behaviour in accordance with Pancasila education and Islamic law. Considering that the principal is also an educator, the role of the principal is very heavy and noble when linked to the various sources above. As an educator, he must be able to instil, promote and enhance various religious values. To support the creation of a religious atmosphere and comfort in the teaching and learning process, every teacher and student must always behave well and show noble character (akhlaq al-karimah).

Most of the educational institutions in Ukraine were forced to switch to distance learning, which is why there arose the question about the availability of technical means to ensure the fullness of educational process. The article investigates modern systems of testing students' knowledge in the process of distance education. Currently, there are quite a few LMS (learning management systems) that can optimize the learning process of distance education. The works of scientists related to the problems of organizing effective learning and the complexity of the transition to distance learning are considered. This article assumes the method of testing not on-ly as a tool to assess the level and quality of learning, but also as a means to obtain recommen-dations for improving the learning process in the whole. Based on the results of the analysis, a comparative description was created and an assessment of the suitability for intermediate control of knowledge of primary and secondary school students, the most common at this stage of school distance learning online knowledge testing tools. Thus the advantages and disad-vantages of these tools are revealed. As a consequence the most universal systems that can fully provide the learning process in terms of distance education and the most convenient tools for assessing knowledge are identified.

Problems of students’ character are currently the main focus in the education realm. The role of the family, teachers, and the society is critical in shaping the character of children.
The weakness of character-based learning in an educational institution has been the key factor on the problem of student characters. The teacher in the learning process is often less
inovative and creative in designing the learning process, especially in terms of learning media design. Comic is one of media that can help students and can replace the position of teachers in learning activities both inside and outside the classroom. Comic can be used in a two-way learning process, namely as a teaching tool and as a medium for shaping the character of the students. Based on observation field, it is known that in the process of learning, comic as instructional medium has never been utilized. Therefore, the presence of learning media in the form of comics is expected to assist the teacher in the learning process and helps in forming the character of students. Comic languages using polite language are expected to avoid impolite languages and not in accordance with the objectives of education character. This also inspires the use of instructional media comic contents of learning materials in elementary school. Comics as a medium of learning is able to build the foundations of character for learners and are ultimately capable of constructing human characters that are intact and resilient.

Chapter two explores the range of white responses to the war on poverty, focusing on the role of the Mississippi Catholic Church in supporting a state-wide job training program. It also tells the story of Marjorie Baroni, a white Catholic from Natchez, Mississippi who played a role in forging a biracial war on poverty in her local community. Baroni’s role illustrates not only the way in which the war on poverty provided opportunities for integration but also for women. Not simply through the “professionalization” of maternalism but also in roles as co-ordinators, administrators, and program directors. Following the creation of STAR—Strategic Training and Redevelopment—this chapter exposes the ways in which religious activism interacted with federally funded antipoverty efforts, from the Diocese of Natchez-Jackson to the Delta Ministry.

DISTANCE EDUCATION AND THE EDUCATOR OF THE 21ST CENTURY ABSTRACT Many are the conflicts in the academies that oppose (or favor) distance education, without at least a theoretical-methodological-practical approach to the limits and possibilities that this modality can cause in the teaching-learning process. Thus, this work aims, through a bibliographical research, to verify how distance education is being perceived by scholars in the literature, for this, authors such as Belloni (2001), Demo (2007), Morin (2001), Fróes (1999) ); Gouvêa (2006), among others, were read and their ideas presented. In order to better understand this modality, we deal with its historicity, origin, limits and possibilities, dates and events in the world and in Brazil, then some positions on the role of educators and / or tutors and counselors, and how the professionals of this modality understand the teaching-learning process, so that when teaching truly happens, learning happens. Another important issue addressed in this article is the language of communication technologies as one of the factors that influence the performance of the educator in this modality of teaching. It is concluded that distance learning is not something new and should not be analyzed by Manichean attitudes, that is, as something totally good or totally bad. There is a need for competence (s) to design quality education, whether at a distance or not, so as not to offer only cheap "perfumeries" to be marketed, since education is increasingly an inalienable and essential right for the society.

Many books designed for international distribution combine text blocks and images. Their layout offers hybrid messages organized on the visual space of a double page. Texts both in the original language and in translation must fit into limited spaces or boxes positioned around illustrations. Thus, translators practice multimodal translation, writing texts that preserve or enhance the cohesion between visual and textual messages. This skill requires some training. Unfortunately, while theoretical writings on pragmatic translation acknowledge its intersemiotic nature, few training programs address this aspect. The creation of a course on multimodal translation would be a valued addition to any translator training program. The concept of a hybrid translation unit offers a way of structuring material to introduce both intersemiotic and multimodal translation in professional curricula. The author draws on her professional experience to discuss the role of illustrations in grasping meaning through practical examples. She suggests generalizable translation strategies to strengthen text-image cohesion, or even generate text from images alone, while adapting the book in translation to its intended readership.

Objective This study examined the effectiveness of teaching biochemical concepts by video in a doctor of chiropractic training program. Methods Students in a biochemistry class were taught the Krebs cycle through a video exercise and glycolysis in a traditional lecture format. They received a review of both concepts and were tested. Test performance was examined. Students answered a questionnaire following the exercise. Results There were no significant differences in test performance on the topic learned by the video exercise. However, students felt that both lecture and review were more effective learning tools than video. Conclusion Despite the results of other authors, our students preferred traditional didactic lecture with review rather than video. With no difference in test scores observed, the role of videos in our basic science course remains unclear, perhaps only used as an occasional supplement. These results were not expected, given the often-preferred use of technology by current learners.
