AbstractIn this paper, 450 relevés of grassland vegetation of the Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class in northwest Croatia have been classified using the agglomerative Ward’s Method in the PC-ORD program. In the process of classification, the following seven groups were obtained: 1. Bromus erectus-Arrhenatherum elatius, 2. Arrhenatherum elatius, 3. Crepis biennis-Arrhenatherum elatius, 4. Luzula campestris-Holcus lanatus, 5. Deschampsia cespitosa-Betonica officinalis, 6. Equisetum palustre, 7. Oenanthe silaifolia-Alopecurus pratensis. The results of the classification for the most part correspond to the traditional syntaxonomic system. The plant communities with the largest number of relevés in the data set are the association Arrhenatheretum elatioris “typicum” (group 2) and the association Holcetum lanati (group 4). They represent the most anthropogenically influenced grasslands of the study area. In the analysis of the ecological factors by PCA in the CANOCO program it is established that separation of the relevés is influenced most greatly by moisture, followed by humus, temperature, light and soil reaction. From the standpoint of nature conservation, the wet meadows of the Molinietalia order are the most valuable, because of the notable diversity of species and communities, as well as a considerable number of threatened plant species.

AbstractChanges in composition and structure of alpine and subalpine plant communities in relation to ecological factors were analysed in the Nízke Tatry Mts, Slovakia. Species cover values of vascular and non-vascular plants in each vegetation plot were recorded on the nine-degree scale. A data set of 156 relevés of alpine and subalpine vegetation was sampled recently during one year in the eastern part of the Nízke Tatry National Park. The data set was analysed by cluster analysis and Detrended Correspondence Analysis. analyses were carried out on the entire data set, including the subset of short grassland and dwarf-shrub vegetation. Major gradients and clusters were ecologically interpreted using Ellenberg indicator values. In the entire data set, the major gradient in species composition was associated with nutrient availability and the second most important gradient with light. In the case of short grassland and dwarf-shrub vegetation, the gradients were different. The first one was associated with soil reaction and the second gradient was associated with moisture. Clusters proposed by numerical classification reproduced many traditional phytosociological associations, namely Seslerietum distichae, Sphagno capillifolii-Empetretum nigri, Junco trifidi-Callunetum vulgaris, Juncetum trifidi, Dryopterido dilatatae-Pinetum mugo, Luzuletum obscurae, Agrostio pyrenaiceae-Nardetum strictae, while some other associations were less clearly differentiated (communities of the alliances Calamagrostion villosae, Adenostylion alliariae, Trisetion fusci, Cratoneuro filicini-Calthion laetae or Salicion herbaceae). The next clusters included Vaccinium and Festuca supina dominated communities and artificial roadside grasslands sown 50 years ago. Bryophytes and lichens were highly represented among diagnostic species of particular associations. Distribution pattern of particular plant communities was strongly influenced by site position either on northern or southern slope of the mountains.

A phenetic analysis was obtained using numerical taxonomy involving 27 accessories composed of species and varieties of Eriobotrya Lindl. and two related species, Photinia serrulata Lindl., and Rhapiolepis indica Lindl. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to separate 53 morphological traits. Leaf morphology was essential for the classification of Eriobotrya. Clustering was consistent with traditional taxonomy. Eriobotrya was distinctly separate from its related genera, and when the similarity coefficient was 0.55, the Eriobotrya accessions could be divided into five groups as follows: Group 1: species with small leaf, included E. angustissima Hook. f., E. henryi Nakai, and E. seguinii Cardot ex Guillaumin; Group 2: Species with mid-size and large leaf included E. japonica Lindl., E. malipoensis K.C. Kuan, E. serrata J.E. Vidal, and E. stipularis Craib; Group 3: Species with large leaf distributed in tropical and south subtropical areas, E. elliptica Lindl., E. ellliptica f. peniolata Hook., and E. elliptica var. petelottii Vidal; Group 4: Species with tomentose leaves included E. prinoides Rehder & E.H. Wilson,  E.× daduheensis H.Z. Zhang ex W.B. Liao, Q. Fan & M.Y. Ding, E. prinoides var. laotica Vidal, E. salwinensis Hand.-Mass., and E. tengyuehensis W.W. Smith; Group 5: All the remaining species including E. bengalensis Hook. f. bengalensis, E. bengalensis (Roxb.) Hook. f. forma angustifolia (Card.) Vidal E. cavaleriei Rehder, E deflexa Nakai, E. deflexa f. buisanensis Nakia, E. deflexa f. koshunensis, E. fragrans Champ. ex Benth., E. kwangsiensis, E. obovata, and E. potlanei Vidal. Our results were in total agreement with the traditional taxonomy of Eriobotrya classification and provide a foundation for the classification and genetic improvement of loquat germplasm.

Background and Objectives: Objective was to examine new findings regarding conjunctival/scleral shape mapped with a novel wide field elevation topography device and software, to propose a new classification system for scleral shape. Methods: The Scleral Shape Study Group (SSSG) collaborated on this research. Data was collected from 152 eyes of prospective scleral lens patients utilizing a new topography device and software specifically designed to measure and map the sclera out to as much as 22 mm. Circumferential scleral plots of sagittal height vs. meridian at 14, 15 and 16mm diameters from the corneal center were generated for each eye. Scleral shape patterns were reviewed in all cases and classified according to recurring characteristics. Results: Twelve eyes were excluded from the analysis due to incomplete data. Of the remaining 140 eyes, 8 (5.7%), of the plots were primarily spherical (Group 1) and 40 (28.6%) were primarily regularly toric, largely conforming to a toric (Sin2) curve with approximately 180° periodicity or interval between elevation to elevation or depression to depression (Group 2). Fifty-seven cases (40.7%) had asymmetric depressions (or steep areas) or asymmetric elevations (or flat areas) which were classified as Group 3. The remaining 35 cases (26%) had a recognizable toric pattern with elevations and depressions but they were irregularly spaced or did not have the customary 180° periodicity (Group 4). Conclusion: A new classification of conjunctival/scleral shape is presented based upon data now available through wide field elevation topography, which could be helpful in scleral lens fitting and potentially soft lens fitting as the landing zone of these lenses are beyond the corneal borders.

Abstract The aim of this work was to compare the dynamic surface tension (DST) with biochemical parameters of the blood serum of Duroc pigs (BSDP). BSDP samples were taken after various times of pig fattening: 65 days (Group 1), 72 days (Group 2), 84-89 days (Group 3), 91-100 days (Group 4). Our approach is consisting in the BSDP-DST-measurement using all four modes of BPA-tensiometer: M1) “Standard experiment”; M2) “Experiment at constant lifetime”; M3) “Accelerated experiment”; M4) “Quick scan”. Here, we have worked out all the modes mentioned above for determining the BSDP tensiometric parameters. The BSDP-DST parameters obtained for groups 3 and 4 (84-89 and 91-101 fattening days, respectively) were very high and close in numbers. (from 73.4-74.6 mN/m for STo, to 58.1-60.5 mN/m for STm, respectively). These BSDP-DST parameters were significantly higher (7-13%) at extremely low interface “life-times” (0.01-0.1 s), as compared to those for groups 1 and 2 (65 and 72 fattening days, respectively). In contrast, the BSDP-DST parameters obtained for groups 1 and 2 were low (from 66.1-71.4 mN/m for STo, to 56.9-57.9 mN/m for STm, respectively). These data (in combination with other physical-chemical methods) can be used for the fundamental data set and monitoring the pig growth, health, productivity, etc.

During follicular development in the mammalian ovary, several functional changes occur in the granulosa cells in response to steroid hormones and gonadotropins (1,2). In particular, marked changes in the content of membrane-associated receptors for the gonadotropins have been observed (1).We report here scanning electron microscope observations of morphological changes that occur on the granulosa cell surface in response to the administration of estradiol, human follicle stimulating hormone (hFSH), and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).Immature female rats that were hypophysectcmized on day 24 of age were treated in the following manner. Group 1: control groups were injected once a day with 0.1 ml phosphate buffered saline (PBS) for 3 days; group 2: estradiol (1.5 mg/0.2 ml propylene glycol) once a day for 3 days; group 3: estradiol for 3 days followed by 2 days of hFSH (1 μg/0.1 ml) twice daily, group 4: same as in group 3; group 5: same as in group 3 with a final injection of hCG (5 IU/0.1 ml) on the fifth day.

Endothelial cell (EC) seeding is postulated as a mechanism of improving patency in small caliber vascular grafts. However the majority of seeded EC are lost within 24 hours of restoration of blood flow in previous canine studies . We postulate that the cells have insufficient time to fully develop their attachment to the graft surface prior to exposure to hemodynamic stress. We allowed EC to incubate on fibronectin-coated ePTFE grafts for four different time periods after seeding and measured EC retention after perfusion in a canine ex vivo shunt circuit.Autologous canine EC, were enzymatically harvested, grown to confluence, and labeled with 30 μCi 111 Indium-oxine/80 cm 2 flask. Four groups of 5 cm x 4 mm ID ePTFE vascular prostheses were coated with 1.5 μg/cm.2 human fibronectin, and seeded with 1.5 x 105 EC/ cm.2. After seeding grafts in Group 1 were incubated in complete growth medium for 90 minutes, Group 2 were incubated for 24 hours, Group 3 for 72 hours and Group 4 for 6 days. Grafts were then placed in the canine ex vivo circuit, constructed between femoral artery and vein, and subjected to blood flow of 75 ml per minute for 6 hours. Continuous counting of γ-activity was made possible by placing the seeded graft inside the γ-counter detection crystal for the duration of perfusion. EC retention data after 30 minutes, 2 hours and 6 hours of flow are shown in the table.

Summary. Background: Prosthetic vascular graft infection (PVGI) is a complication with high mortality. Cyanoacrylate (CA) is an adhesive which has been used in a number of surgical procedures. In this in-vivo study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between PVGI and CA. Materials and methods: Thirty-two rats were equally divided into four groups. Pouch was formed on back of rats until deep fascia. In group 1, vascular graft with polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) was placed into pouch. In group 2, MRSA strain with a density of 1 ml 0.5 MacFarland was injected into pouch. In group 3, 1 cm 2 vascular graft with PET piece was placed into pouch and MRSA strain with a density of 1 ml 0.5 MacFarland was injected. In group 4, 1 cm 2 vascular graft with PET piece impregnated with N-butyl cyanoacrylate-based adhesive was placed and MRSA strain with a density of 1 ml 0.5 MacFarland was injected. All rats were scarified in 96th hour, culture samples were taken where intervention was performed and were evaluated microbiologically. Bacteria reproducing in each group were numerically evaluated based on colony-forming unit (CFU/ml) and compared by taking their average. Results: MRSA reproduction of 0 CFU/ml in group 1, of 1410 CFU/ml in group 2, of 180 200 CFU/ml in group 3 and of 625 300 CFU/ml in group 4 was present. A statistically significant difference was present between group 1 and group 4 (p < 0.01), between group 2 and group 4 (p < 0.01), between group 3 and group 4 (p < 0.05). In terms of reproduction, no statistically significant difference was found in group 1, group 2, group 3 in themselves. Conclusions: We observed that the rate of infection increased in the cyanoacyrylate group where cyanoacrylate was used. We think that surgeon should be more careful in using CA in vascular surgery.

In Science and Technology Development BCI plays a vital role in the field of Research. Classification is a data mining technique used to predict group membership for data instances. Analyses of BCI data are challenging because feature extraction and classification of these data are more difficult as compared with those applied to raw data. In this paper, We extracted features using statistical Haralick features from the raw EEG data . Then the features are Normalized, Binning is used to improve the accuracy of the predictive models by reducing noise and eliminate some irrelevant attributes and then the classification is performed using different classification techniques such as Naïve Bayes, k-nearest neighbor classifier, SVM classifier using BCI dataset. Finally we propose the SVM classification algorithm for the BCI data set.

This study was conducted to find out hepatoprotective activity of hesperidin (HES) 100mg/kg body weight (b.w.) against ciprofloxacin (CPX) 100 mg/kg induced hepatotoxicity in local breed rabbits .CPX is a broad spectrum antibiotic used for treatment of many bacterial infections. Twenty four male rabbits were divided into four groups ,group1: control, (1 ml/kg Saline orally) group 2: CPX (100 mg/kg orally) for (14) consecutive days , group 3: HES (100 mg//kg) orally for (14) consecutive days group 4: CPX (100 mg/kg orally) plus HES (100 mg//kg orally ) for (14) consecutive days. All the rabbits were killed on the (15) day of the experiment, and then the blood, and livers samples were taken. CPX induced hepatotoxicity was proved by a significant (p less than 0.01) reduction in the body weight ,and a significant (p less than 0.01) increased serum aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT) , Malonaldehyde enzyme (MAD) and histopathological changes. Protective hepatic toxicity effect and oxidative damage caused by CPX significantly (p less than 0.01) increasing in body weight and significantly (p less than 0.01) decreasing AST , ALT, MAD and improving tissue morphology in HES (100 mg//kg) . These results assure that HES (100 mg//kg) antioxidant effects can protect CPX-induced hepatotoxicity in rabbits.

1. Yearly records of worker Vespula germanica (Fabricius) taken in suction traps at Silwood Park (28 years) and at Rothamsted Research (39 years) are examined. 2. Using the autocorrelation function (ACF), a significant negative 1-year lag followed by a lesser non-significant positive 2-year lag was found in all, or parts of, each data set, indicating an underlying population dynamic of a 2-year cycle with a damped waveform. 3. The minimum number of years before the 2-year cycle with damped waveform was shown varied between 17 and 26, or was not found in some data sets. 4. Ecological factors delaying or preventing the occurrence of the 2-year cycle are considered.
