Improving vocabulary mastery of students requires creativity in finding some strategies in order that students are motivated to memorize the vocabulary. This research aimed to use a comic book to improve student's vocabulary mastery through reading comprehension. The researcher focused on the use of Snow White comic book in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. The data were collected by doing tests. The tests were divided into pre-test and post-test to see the students’ ability on their vocabulary mastery before and after the treatment, and a questionnaire was used to see the students’ responses toward the approach. The samples are the students of MAN 2 Montasik Aceh Besar, consisted of 40 students who were divided into experimental class and control class. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through SPSS Version 22. The result of the hypothesis testing of this research showed that students’ vocabulary mastery was significantly improved. The students’ responses toward the use of comic book to improve their vocabulary mastery were positive and the students showed their interest in reading. Therefore, the use of comic book to improve student's vocabulary mastery through reading comprehension is suggested to be used by teachers to help students in learning and memorizing vocabulary.

The objective of this study is to measure whether there is or not significant effect of teaching reading by utilizing Hot Potatoes software toward students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. The variables used were the teaching treatment of Hot Potatoes Software as the independent variable and the students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text as dependent variable. Then, the research designed was Quasi-experimental design and the presentation of data used was quantitative. The data were obtained from the eleventh grade, of which 28 students were taken as sample. The students are divided into two groups; experiment group consisted of 12 students and control group consists of 16 students. To get the data, the pre-test and post-test were applied and then analyzed using t-test formula. The researcher had concluded that there is Significant effect of Hot Potatoes Software toward the students’ reading comprehension achievement. The result showed that mean of students’ post-test was increased. It is proved by the t-test (8.54) which is higher than t-table (2.05) at level of significance 5%. It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and it proved that Hot Potatoes Software had significant effect toward students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text

Reading is one of the important skills that the students have to master. However, many students have difficulties in comprehending the reading text. To solve this condition, the researcher used schema activation strategy to help students understand reading comprehension. The purpose of this research was to investigate whether the use of schema activation strategy is effective or not in teaching reading comprehension at the second-grade students of MTs Tarbiyatul Mustafid in academic year 2017/2018. This study was quasi-experimental design using two classes were VIII B class was taken as an experimental class, and VII-A was taken as control class. The population of this research involved 60 students from the second grade in MTs Tarbiyatul Mustafid Batu Simpang. By using purposive sampling, the researcher took the students as a sample. In collecting the data, this study used pre-test, treatment, and post-test as the data collection procedure then followed by analyzing the data by using the t-test formula. Then the result of statistical analysis of t-test in this research was 2.85. It was higher than critical values for t- table in the degree of freedom (df) of 58 is 2.021(0.05%) and 2.704(0.01%). The researcher concludes that mean score before and after teaching by using schema activation strategy has a difference. It means the alternative hypothesis (ha) was accepted. The use of schema activation strategy in teaching reading comprehension at the second-grade students of MTs Tarbiyatul Mustafid Batu Rimpang is effective.

This research investigated the effect of speed reading on students’ reading comprehension. The writer used quantitative as the research method and used the quasi experiment as a research design. The writer used experimental class to imply the speed reading method and control group for the other technique in teaching reading. For collecting the data the writer gave the pre – test for experimental and control group, then administrated the treatment for experiment class , finally the researcher administrated the post – test to find out the improvement of speed reading method for the student . Based on the writer interpretation it is concluded that hypothesis is accepted.it is suggested that the teacher should imply the speed reading method in teaching reading because research finding proved that speed reading gave more improvement in reading comprehension that the other technique in teaching reading and the speed reading method was more interesting than conventional method.

the purpose of the present study was to investigate the impact of teaching critical thinking skills on reading comprehension of Iranian intermediate EFL learners. A sample of 50 students from Arshia Language Institute in Ilam, Iran participated in this study. They were both male and female students who were selected among 80 students based on their performances on PET. The participants were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. First, the two groups were exposed to the pre-test of reading comprehension in order to evaluate their knowledge on reading before the treatment. Based on scores obtained from the Pre-test, no significance differences were observed between two groups. After that the treatment was started and the experimental group was exposed to teaching critical thinking skills. Meanwhile, traditional methods of teaching reading comprehension were used for teaching reading comprehension to the control group. Finally, post-test of reading comprehension was delivered to both groups at the end of treatment to check possible differences.  To analyze the collected data, ANCOVA was run using SPSS Software Version 16. The results showed that teaching critical thinking skills positively affect reading comprehension of intermediate EFL learners, but the interaction of gender and teaching critical thinking was not significant.

The objective of the study is to find out whether it is effective or not using jigsaw learning model in teaching reading comprehension of  spoof text to the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 13 Palembang. In this study, the researcher used experimental method. The population of this study is all the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 13 Palembang with the total numbers of students was 392. Therefore, the sample of the study is 72 students consist two classes,namely: 36 students for control group and 36 students for experimental group. The sample was taken by using non purposisve random sampling method. The data collected by using written test consist of 30 questions and the type of questions is multiple choice.  The result of the test was analyzed by using t-test which were pair sample t-test and independent sample t-test was known as: mean of post test in expermental group was 72.22 higher than past test mean score of control group was 58.64. Furthermore, the result of t-obtained was 6.132 and t-table was 2.030, it shows that t-obtained was higher than t-table. From the explanation above, there were significant difference between the experimental group that have been taught by using jigsaw learning model and control group that was not taught using treatment. It means that, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It was concluded that it was effective of using jigsaw learning model to teach reading comprehension of spoof text to the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 13 Palembang.

This paper aims at explaining: students’ and teachers’ opinion on reading materials integrating Tri Hita Karana values and students’ reading comprehension before and after the implementation of that reading materials. The data of the study were collected through questionnaire, scoring rubric, pre-test, and post-test. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of the study shows that the students and teachers have positive opinion toward the reading materials that integrate Tri Hita Karana values. It can be seen from the result of the questionnaire that shows both the students and the teachers gave more positive comments than negative comments. The result of the scoring rubric that aims at measuring the quality of the reading materials shows that both the students and the English teachers gave a high score that indicates the reading materials have a high quality. Furthermore, the implementation of reading materials that integrate Tri Hita Karana values also improved students’ reading comprehension. It is proven by the result of pre-test and post-test that were delivered before and after the implementation of the reading materials that integrate Tri Hita Karana values.During the pre-test, the students’mean score was 65,18 and it improved into 74.29 on the post test.

This study was conducted to find out the effect of using frontloading strategy in teaching reading comprehension at the seventh grade students of SMPN 10 Bengkulu. This research was a quasi experimental research that is one short experiment which used post-test only. The population of this research were the seventh grade students of SMPN 10 Bengkulu there are 180 students. The sample of this research were 57 students from two classes; the experimental class and control class. The experimental class was treated by using frontloading strategy, while the control class was taught by conventional strategy. The two classes have similar ability in English based on the scores of mid-term examination. In experimental class there was a significant positive effect towards the students reading comprehension (it was found that the t-count 2.047 while t-table was 1.676). T-count was bigger than t-table (2.047<1.676).   Based on those results, it can be assumed frontloading strategy was effective in increasing students’ reading comprehension.

Reading English text as a basic language skill has a complicated process to be absorbed by second language learners. In practice, Text-based has enlarged students to the complicated of reading comprehension. Therefore, various kinds of teaching reading strategies appropriate to students’ characters and needs are determined. This study aimed to identify teaching reading strategies that English teachers frequently use and identify students’ reading achievement by applying certain recommended strategies and identifying its effect in the teaching and learning process. The subject was thirty students in the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Jereweh, Academic Year 2019/2020. Data collection procedures were FGD, In-depth Interview, Observation, and a reading test. The reading test was distributed toward the Pre-test and Post-test. While the data analysis was a qualitative and inferential statistic. The findings showed two kinds of teaching reading strategies that were frequently applied by English teachers in SMPN 1 Jereweh, namely, SQ3R and QAR. By designing a new combination between both of those strategies, students reading comprehension achievement showed that dominantly students’ categorized in “Good “level. The mean score was significantly different (Pre-test= 55.83, while Post-Test= 78.92). In addition, the r = 0.00 < 0.05 meant that there were significant effects before and after implementing SQ3R and QAR strategies. Thus, this design was recommended for teaching reading comprehension.

Teaching reading comprehension for young learners becomes a challenge for English teachers in Indonesia. Dealing with that problem, this study had a purpose to investigate whether there was any significant effect on students’ reading comprehension taught by using big book and conventional media or not. Post-test only control group was used as the design with forth grade students of SD Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja as the population. The data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. As the result, it can be concluded that big book gives significant effect on students reading comprehension compared with the control group. It can be proven from the difference of mean score gained by experimental group (83.56) and control group (76.19). The result of the t-test also shows that the t-observed exceeded the t-critical value (4.088 > 2.042).

This study aimed to find out the extent to which authentic material enhance students’ reading comprehension. This study used quasi-experimental design that consists of experimental class and control class. In experimental class referred to the class that is given authentic material. While the control class referred to the class that is given the usual set of conditions or textbook. The study was carried out at Lakidende University of Unaaha and Sembilan belas November University with 60 undergraduates as the sample. Data were collected by using reading test. Moreover, the data were analyzed quantitatively and interpreted by using the software program of SPSS 24.0. This study found that Authentic reading material give a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension from pre-test to post-test revealed the significant difference (0.001 0.05) before and after the implementation of Authentic reading material.
