ABSTRACT<br /><br />Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) is a plant that has great potency  to be developed. Almost all parts of the plant can be utilized. This study aimed to determine the effect of shade and phosphate fertilizer on growth and essential oil content in  basil. This research was conducted at the experimental field of Agrotechnology Departement, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Trunojoyo Madura, during January-April 2015. The research was arranged in a split plot design with 3 replications. Main plot was shading i.e., without shading  and 25% shading. The subplots were phosphate fertilizer rate, i.e., 0, 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 g SP36 per plant that was planted in polybags. The results showed that plants treated with 25% of shading and applied with phosphate 3 g per plant had the highest total dry weight, production of essential oil and eugenol. Shading of 25% give the best results on plant height, leaf area and total fresh weight of the plant. Application of phosphate fertilizer 3 g per plant give  the highest content of chlorophyll (chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll), while the highest essential oil and eugenol content of leaves is obtained from application of phosphate fertilizer 3 and 4.5 g per plant. Shading  and phosphate fertilizer application did not affect leaf  number. <br /><br />Keywords: chlorophyll, eugenol, leaf, phenylpropanoids, production<br /><br />

Jabon (Anthocephallus cadamba Roxb.) is one of fast-growing species with high economical value, and well adapted on some of soil types. The aims of this research were to analyze the effectiveness of AMF species isolated from Samama (Anthocephallus macrophyllus (Roxb.) Havil) and to determine the favorable dose of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer for Jabon growth. The research was conducted CRD-split plot design main plot was Acaulospora sp.1 (M1), Glomus sp.1 (M2), Acaulospora sp.2 (M3), Acaulospora sp.3 (M4), Glomus sp.2 (M5). While the fertilizer as the sub-plot, consist of control (P0), urea 0.5g+rockphosphat 2g (P1), urea 1g+rockphosphat 4g (P2). The result showed that AMF and fertilizer applications effectively improved Jabon grown, especially in height, stem diameter, and shoot dry weight. The interaction (M4P1) increased plant height 154.73%, diameter 75.38% and shoot dry weight 376.09% compared with control. P1 treatment was better for growth of Jabon that was inoculated by mycorrhiza. Acaulospora sp.1 (M1) originally from Samama without fertilizer had the best effectiveness for Jabon growth.Key words: Acaulospora, indigenous

ABSTRACT Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) is one of horticulture crop that contain high nutrition. Growth and yield of this crop determined by genetic and environment factor especially water. The objective of this research was to know the effect of drought stress toward growth and yield of several okra genetypes. This research was undertaken in plastic house, Batu Kuta village Sub regency of Narmada using Split Plot design with drought stress as main plot and genotype as sub plot. Main plot consist of drought stress and without drought stress. Sub plot consist of Dompu genotype, Hybrid genotype, Red genotype and Long genotype. Every treatment combination was replicated three times. Result of this study showed that interaction between treatment and genotype of okra effected on canopy wet weight, canopy dry weight, plant height at 60 days after planting, number of leaf at 30, 60 and 90 days after planting, number of flower becoming fruit and number of good fruit. Treatment of okra genotype effected on almost all parameters except wet weight of root, dry weight of root and diameter of stem 30 days after planting. While, treatment of drought stress only effected on canopy wet weight and plant height at 60 and 90 days after planting. Long genotype had the best growth on the condition of drought. Red genotype had the best number of good fruit on the condition of drought stress and without drought stress.

We investigated the influences of fall fertilization and light intensity on photosynthesis and freeze resistance of Rhododendron ×kurume ‘Pink Pearl’, an evergreen azalea cultivar, grown outdoors in containers under nursery conditions. The study included two main-plot fall fertilization treatments: 1) 0.5 liter solution containing 75 mg·liter−1 N applied for 60 days from August 1 through September 29 and 2) 0.5 liter solution containing 125 mg·liter−1 N applied for 120 days from August 1 through November 28, and four subplot light intensity treatments 1) 100% ambient photon flux density (PPFD) from May 1, 2004, through May 1, 2005, 2) shade fabric rated to reduce PPFD by 50% from May 1 through September 30, 2004, followed by 100% PPFD from October 1, 2004, through May 1, 2005, 3) 100% PPFD from May 1 through September 30, 2004, followed by 50% PPFD from October 1, 2004, through May 1, 2005, and 4) 50% PPFD from May 1, 2004, through May 1, 2005. Fertilizer application and shade treatments did not interact in their effects on stem freeze resistance or the timing of anthesis. The high rate of extended fertigation (125 mg·liter−1 N applied August 1 through September 28) reduced freeze resistance of azalea stems and advanced anthesis by 4.9 days compared to plants that received moderate fertigation (75 mg·liter−1 N from August 1 through September 29). The high rate of extended fall fertigation failed to increase leaf or stem dry weight compared to plants that received the moderate rate of fertigation. Plants grown in 50% PPFD from May 1 through September 30 produced 163% more above ground dry weight compared to plants grown in 100% light during the same time period. The addition or removal of shade cloth beginning October 1 failed to enhance azalea stem freeze resistance compared to plants that were only exposed to 100 or 50% PPFD respectively. Shade treatments affected the chlorophyll fluorescence ratio (Fv · Fm−1) of leaves, but leaf fluorescence was unrelated to stem freeze resistance. Shade treatments affected azalea growth and photosynthetic stress, but shade neither interacted with fall fertilization to increase stem freeze resistance, nor had a biologically significant effect on stem freeze resistance.

Dioscorea is potentially used as staple food to support food security. The research was aimed to determine the effect of stake length and time of  stem twining  on  the growth of Dioscorea sansibarensis Pax. The experiment was conducted  in  Purwodadi Botanic Garden from December 2014 until May 2015 using split plot randomized block design consisted of two factors, i.e. the stake length and time of stem twining. The stake length was the main plot consisted of 150 cm, 100 cm and 50 cm above soil surface and without stake (control). The time of stem twining as subplots, i.e. stem twined early, twined at the time of 4 leaves stage, and twined at 8 leaves stage. Each combination of the treatments was replicated three times. The results showed that there was significant effect on the stake length  and the time of stem twining treatments on the plant growth and yield. The stake  length of 150 cm treatment produced the highest fresh tuber and total plant dry weight, i.e., 257.24 g and 132.77 g per plant, respectively. On the contrary, the plant without stake produced the lowest fresh tuber and  total dry weight of plant, i.e., 112.10 g and 48.65 g per plant, respectively.<br /><br />Keywords: biomass,leaf area, photosyntesis, tuber weight

<p>True shallot seed (<em>Allium cepa var Aggregatum group</em>) is an alternative way of growing shallot. Different environments and cultivars need a specific study. The aim of this research was to find out the best technology to grow Trisula true shallot seed by managing plant densities and applying compost and biofertilizer in alluvial soils. The study was performed from May to October 2015, using a split-plot design with four replications. The main plot was plant density: 100 plants m-2 and 70 plants m-2. Subplots were five fertilizer application combinations, they were 100% recommended dose of NPK (R-NPK), 100% R-NPK + compost, 100% R-NPK + compost + biofertilizer, 50% R-NPK + compost and 50% R-NPK + compost + biofertilizer. Results showed that biomass and bulb yield were significantly affected by plant density and fertilizer application. The reduced 50% R-NPK by substituting with compost and biofertilizer was unable to maintain shallot bulb yield equal to 100% R-NPK, suggesting insufficient nutrients derived from compost to satisfy the shallot requirement. The best technology to grow true shallot seed of Trisula variety was 100 plants m-2 plant density and 100% NPK (consisting of 180 kg N ha-1, 52 kg P ha-1 and 50 kg K ha-1) with 2.5 t ha-1 compost that achieved the highest bulb yield of 9.83 t ha-1 and increased the revenue.</p>

SUMMARYFifty-six experiments, each with 15 levels of P fertilizer in the presence of excess N and K fertilizer, were carried out on adjacent sites of the same field where the soil was maintained at the same low P status. Yields, in every experiment where there was a response, were related to level of P fertilizer by a diminishing-retums type curve, and fitted an inverse polynomial equation with a single parameter to define responsiveness. Responsiveness of many crops were similar but there were, nevertheless, considerable inter-crop differences.Applications of P fertilizer increased the % P in the dry matter of lettuce and spinach as well as yields. They increased the % P in the Cruciferae and Chenopodiaceae without appreciably affecting yield. Conversely, theyhad little effect on the % P of leeks, onions, broad beans and French beans but increased yields.When the optimum levels of P fertilizer were applied, % P (in the entire plant) of the different crops was negatively correlated with total dry weight per unit area and total uptake of P was related by a single curved relationship to total dry weight. In addition, the difference between the % P in the foliage and in the storage roots of the various root crops was asymptotically related to mean plant weight.Percentage recovery of added P (100 kg/ha) by the different crops was largely determined by the total weight of dry matter. It varied from 1% when crop dry weight was 2 t/ha to 12% when it was 15 t/ha.Applications of phosphate suppressed leaf scorch of spinach. On occasion they alleviated stem rot in summer cabbage and influenced the bolting of onions and the number of defective Brussels sprouts. Otherwise, the effects on quality were small.

In trials conducted in 1961 and 1962 at Wagga in southern New South Wales, to investigate the yield physiology of wheat, the variety Heron was grown under various cultural treatments. This paper deals with the relationship of evapotranspiration to crop growth. Vegetative growth at a given date in the spring was influenced markedly by time of sowing and fertilizer application, and to a lesser extent by sowing rate. Large differences in vegetative growth caused relatively small differences in evapotranspiration rate when soil moisture was adequate. An increase in total dry weight of 100 g/m² in early October was associated with an increase in cumulative evapotranspiration up to that time of about 0.50 in. It was concluded that although a reduced fertilizer application and reduced sowing rate (below 3b lb seed per acre) permitted higher soil moisture levels at flowering, this necessarily involved a considerable reduction in total dry weight at flowering. With delayed time of sowing, the post-flowering moisture status of the crop can be expected to deteriorate, primarily because of delayed flowering date.

This study aims to determine the merits of various industrial waste pulp and palm oil as well as getting the most appropriate formulation ongrowth and yield of maize varieties Earth-3 and NK-212 in peatlands. Research using split plot design using the design of completely randomized design(CRD) and each treatment was repeated 3 times. Varieties as the main plot consists of: (V1): Varieties of Earth-3, (V2): Varieties of NK-212. Treatmentsubplot, consisting of six formulations ameliorant, namely: F1 (60% OPEF + 20% GPB + 10% Dregs + 10% Fly ash), F2(60% OPEF + 10% GPB + 20%Dregs + 10% Fly ash ), F3(60% OPEF + 10% GPB + 10% Dregs + 20% Fly ash), F4(40% OPEF + 30% GPB + 10% Dregs + 20% Fly ash), F5(40%OPEF + 20% GPB + 30% Dregs + 10% Fly ash) and F6(40% OPEF + 10% GPB + 20% Dregs + 30% Fly ash). The data obtained were stat isticallyanalyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by HSD test at 5% level.The results showed that various formulations of industrial waste pulp andpalm oil gave similar results to the root dry weight, dry weight of straw, hay root ratio, the diameter of the cob, corncob, corncob without the husk and dryseed weight. It can be seen from the cob generated a large and long and close cob husk well (± 98%), beans straight line with a number of seed rows15-16 rows, as well as a uniform crop diversity, is in conformity with the description.

Tanaman sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata Nees.) merupakan salah satu tanaman obat unggulan Indonesia selain temulawak, mengkudu, pegagan, lidah buaya, lada, dan kunyit. Peningkatan produktivitas sambiloto dapat dilakukan dengan perbaikan teknik budidaya melalui sistem pemupukan.  Kajian aplikasi pupuk guano terhadap pertumbuhan, produksi dan kandungan andgrographolida pada tanaman sambiloto terbatas, sehingga perlu dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pupuk guano terhadap pertumbuhan dan kandungan andrographolida pada tanaman sambiloto. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kebun percobaan Program Studi Agroteknologi Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Trunojoyo Madura pada bulan Januari - April 2016. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) non faktorial dengan perlakuan 6 taraf dosis pupuk guano dengan 4 ulangan. Perlakuan dosis pupuk guano per hektar meliputi G0 (control/tanpa pupuk guano), G1 (5 ton), G2 (7.5 ton), G3 (10 ton), G4 (12.5 ton), dan G5 (15 ton). Pada setiap percobaan terdapat 6 tanaman dengan rincian 3 tanaman sebagai sampel. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pemupukan guano pada dosis 15 ton/ha (G5) memberikan hasil terbaik untuk parameter tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, luas daun, berat basah total dan berat kering total tanaman. Kandungan andrographolida (%) tertinggi diperoleh pada dosis pupuk guano 7.5 ton/ha (G2), sedangkan produksi andrograpolida (mg) tertinggi ditunjukkan oleh perlakuan G4 (dosis pupuk guano 12.5 ton/ha).Response of Growth and Production of Srographic Andrographolida Plants (Andrographis paniculata Nees) Due to Differences in Guano Fertilizer Doses Bitter plant (Andrographis paniculata Nees.) including one featured Indonesian medicinal plants in addition to ginger, noni, gotu kola, aloe vera, pepper, and turmeric. Increased productivity is bitter to do with the improvement of farming techniques through a system of fertilization. Study of guano fertilizer application on the growth, production, and content andrographolide the bitter plant is limited, so it is necessary to know the effect of guano fertilizer on the growth and content of the plant andrographolide bitter. This research was conducted at the experiment station Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, University Trunojoyo Madura at January-April 2016 by using a completely randomized design (RAL) non-factorial with 4 replications consisting of G0 (control/without guano fertilizer), G1 ( fertilizer guano 5 tons/ha) G2 (7.5 tons/ha), G3 (10 tons/ha), G4 (12.5 tons/ha) and G5 (15 tons/ha) on each trial there are 6 plants with details of 3 plants in the sample. The results showed that the guano fertilizer at a dose of 15 tons/ha (G5) can be increased plant height, leaf number, leaf area, total wet weight, and total dry weight. The highest content of andrographolide obtained at doses of 7.5 tons/ha (G2) of guano fertilizer, while the highest yield of andrographolide obtained at doses 12.5 tons/ha of guano fertilizer (G4).

Nitrogen was a key component for increasing yield and quality of vegetables like shallots. The growth and development of plants were influenced by nitrogen form. Common plants preferred nitrate for growth, but the enormity preference varies within plant species and other environmental factors. The purpose of this experiment was to study the effect of ammonium:nitrate ratio in sandy soil to growth and yield of shallot (Allium cepa L. Aggregatum group). The experiment had been conducted in August-October 2015 in the sandy land on Samas Beach, Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The research was arranged in a Split-Plot design. The main plot was the source of nitrogen (NH4+; NO3-; NH4+: NO3- 1:1; NH4+: NO3- 1:2; and NH4+: NO3- 2:1) and the subplot was cultivars (Crok Kuning, Tiron, and Bima Brebes). Each subplot covered an area of 2.5 m² (2.5 m x 1 m) with three blocks as replications. Shallot bulbs were planted in sixth-row, spacing 20 cm between rows and 15 cm within rows. The dose was applied according to the recommendation of BPTP (urea 200 kg ha-1, ZA 250 kg ha-1, SP-36 150 kg ha-1, and KCl 150 kg ha-1) 144.5 kg N ha-1. Ammonium:nitrate ratio influenced shallot growth in sandy soil through number of leaves at maximum vegetative phase and its leaf area. The NH4+: NO3- 1:2 ratio gave the best result in dry weight of leaves following bulb dry weight than other ratio. Nevertheless, ammonium:nitrate ratio had no significant influence on bulb dry weight (ton ha-1).
