Abstract Background The urban water system is the worst hit in global climate change. Water resilience is the system’s ability to retaliate and recover from various water-related disruptions. The present study aims to delineate the water resilience zones in Chennai city, Tamil Nadu, India, by effectively integrating the geographic information system, remote sensing, and analytical hierarchy process (AHP). Methods The methodology incorporated 15 vital factors. A multi-criteria decision analysis technique was adopted to assign a weight to each parameter using the AHP. A pairwise decision matrix was constructed, parameter’s relative importance and the consistency ratio were established. Integration of all maps by weighted overlay analysis technique depicted water resilience intensities of five different classes. Results Very low, low and moderate water resilience areas accounted for more than three-fourth of the study area. Area Under Curve score (80.12%) depicted the accuracy of the developed model. Sensitivity analysis determined the significance of the parameters in the delineation. The logical structural approach can be employed in other parts of India or elsewhere with modifications. Conclusion This study is novel in its approach by holistically analyzing water resilience by integrating disruptions related to flood, drought and the city's water infrastructure system's adequacy and efficiency. Researchers and planners can effectively use the study results to ensure resilience as a new perspective on effective water resource management and climate change mitigation. It becomes a decision aid mechanism identifying where the system is vulnerable to potential water-related risks for employing resilience measures.

Residential buildings are being renovated around the world, especially apartments, their solutions are becoming increasingly important. The number of apartments in Korea that are more than 20 years old has reached 4.3 million, and the problem of aged apartments now needs to be addressed. Consequently, the government is promoting the improvement of the residential environment through renovation. In a renovation project, a feasibility study is conducted at the outset, but many apartments fail to complete the renovation process during the project. One reason is that feasibility studies focus on economics without sufficiently considering the technical aspects of the redesign. This study developed a feasibility study model that can pre-evaluate apartment renovation in terms of technology. We selected 27 criteria that affect technical feasibility, and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was performed with experts to derive the relative importance of the criteria. Based on the weight of the criteria, we developed an apartment renovation technology feasibility study model. As a result of the study, unit and complex conditions were found to have a significant influence on renovation. Moreover, it was found that the technical feasibility study model can quantitatively evaluate the technical aspects of an apartment to be renovated.

The aim of this research was to examine the mechanical and fatigue properties of friction stir welded Sc-modified 5 mm thick AA2519-T62 extrusion. The joint was obtained using the following parameters: 800 rpm tool rotation speed, 100 mm/min tool traverse speed, 17 kN axial, and MX Triflute as a tool. The investigation has involved microstructure observations, microhardness distribution analysis, tensile test with digital image correlation technique, observations of the fracture surface, measurements of residual stresses, low cycle fatigue testing, and fractography. It was stated that the obtained weld is defect-free and has joint efficiency of 83%. The failure in the tensile test occurred at the boundary of the thermo-mechanically affected zone and stir zone on the advancing side of the weld. The residual stress measurements have revealed that the highest values of longitudinal stress are localized at the distance of 10 mm from the joint line with their values of 124 MPa (the retreating side) and 159 MPa (the advancing side). The results of low cycle fatigue testing have allowed establishing of the values of the cyclic strength coefficient (k′ = 504.37 MPa) and cyclic strain hardening exponent (n′ = 0.0068) as well as the factors of the Manson–Coffin–Basquin equation: the fatigue strength coefficient σ′f = 462.4 MPa, the fatigue strength exponent b = −0.066, the fatigue ductility coefficient ε′f = 0.4212, and the fatigue ductility exponent c = −0.911.
