The article analyzes the consequences of the spread of coronavirus infection on the world economy. The high degree of infection and the rapid spread of COVID-19 caused the quarantine of certain cities and regions of the world, and since March 2020, the borders between the countries have been completely closed. This situation, naturally, could not but affect the global economic activity. The crisis caused by the pandemic has led to the fact that the leaders of the countries were forced to first of all pay attention to health problems and seriously reduce funding in other sectors of the economy. The forced self-isolation regime of the population affected all spheres of life, without exception, large and medium, and, especially, small business suffered. The sectors of the economy most affected by the coronavirus pandemic include: air and road transportation, the leisure and entertainment industry, fitness and sports, tourism, hospitality, catering, the education system, the organization of conferences and exhibitions, the provision of personal services to the population, dentistry, retail trade in non-food products, the media and the production of printed materials, etc. Statistical data on the number of cases of new coronavirus infection by country (as well as those who recovered and died from it) are today not so much of a medical nature as evidence of a deepening global economic crisis. The decline in production volumes on a global scale entails a reduction in the global consumption of most types of industrial raw materials and energy carriers. According to analysts’ forecasts, the possibility of a quick return to the previous economic activity is not foreseen, negative processes may continue for the next several years. The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious test of the readiness of the world economy to effectively resolve global problems, overcome the negative consequences of the spread of the virus and focus on those positive opportunities, the development of which can lead to economic growth in the long term. One of these promising areas of economic development is the further digitalization of society, the development of new digital technologies.

The article discusses issues related to the general decline in the world economy on the background of coronavirus infection. The authors attempt to analyze the consequences of the introduction of quarantine and isolation for the population of most countries, as a measure to constrain the pandemic. The article presents changes in the gross domestic product of the countries most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, and a special place there is given to Russia. The authors also consider the crucial changes in the international pension system and suggest possible solutions to this problem. The article puts forward and substantiates the hypothesis that the reasons for such a significant drop in the economy include hard economic problems formed long before the pandemic. This includes an analysis of the recession on the income of large international corporations included in the S & P 500 international index. This article identifies the main key problems of the international economy and suggests the main ways to solve them. It also provides a forecast of further development of the economic situation, with regard to the current state.

The outlook for the US economy has improved modestly compared to our projections three months ago. This can be attributed largely to the unexpectedly rapid decline in risk premia, while the recovery in world trade appears to be being led by Asian markets, allowing a positive contribution to US growth from net trade in the short term. After a cumulative decline in output of 3.8 per cent in the US in the year to the second quarter of 2009, GDP probably recorded a rise in the third quarter, supported by a rise in consumer spending and a positive impact from net trade. We expect output to decline by 2.8 per cent in 2009 as a whole, and forecast a rise in US GDP of 1.3 per cent in 2010.

The COVID-19 epidemic has hit the world economy hard, leaving no industry without consequences. The travel and tourism industries have been hit hardest by partial and complete lockdowns around the world. Exit from the recession and recovery of the sector should take place in the format of a new normal. In the framework of this study, it was argued that another framework for the development of tourism and hospitality is sustainable development. The necessity of rethinking the industry in the direction of sustainability is substantiated in connection with nature conservation, reassessment of the socio-cultural environment, and the benefits of active participation in the economy and local development. Emphasis is placed on the need for a solution that is primary - rethinking or rapid recovery. Underlined, that sustainable tourism should have a positive impact by improving the livelihoods of local communities. The most important thing is the employment of locals in the tourism business. Ensuring their financial security is important, especially during periods such as the decline in tourists caused by the pandemic. Sustainable tourism is financially profitable and profitable for stakeholders.

Existing empirical models of international co-operation emphasize domestic determinants, although virtually all theories of international relations focus on interdependencies between countries. This article examines how much states’ linkages with the international system, relative to domestic factors, such as income and democracy, influence the dynamics of global governance efforts. To this end, we study the ratification behaviour of 180 countries vis-à-vis 255 global environmental treaties. Except for integration into the world economy, which affects co-operative behaviour negatively, our results show that international factors have a stronger and more positive impact on cooperative behaviour than domestic factors. This implies that Galton’s advice not to examine the effects of internal and external variables in isolation is also useful in the study of international politics.

The study uses an augmented gravity model to analyse intra-BRICS trade flows and the potential for establishing economic cooperation. It examines trade relations between BRICS with the help of the gravity model of international trade. Panel data from 2000 to 2017 were reviewed for bloc analysis of 20 trade partners. The analysis of the intra-BRICS trade flows is based on the Heckscher-Ohlin model. The results obtained confirm that the intra-BRICS trade relations have a sound positive impact on economic performance in these countries. Market size and economic index have a beneficial effect on the intra-BRICS trade flows. Market size is very elastic to trade, while trade tariffs and taxes within BRICS are manageable. Hence, the intra-BRICS trade has the potential to create strong economic ties within the member countries, and cooperation between the BRICS countries can have a significant influence on the globalisation of the world economy.
