Subject of study. Different points of view on the concept of structures of the terrain type and their role in the addition of orogenic belts are considered. Materials and methods. We used our own research and analysis of the latest publications about the Ural-Timan region and the Pacific belt, on the territory of the Northeast segment of Eurasia, as well as currently known isotope radiometric data. It was used also the result of geophysical seismotectonic and paleomagnetic explorations. Results. It has been established that in the composition of the Ural-Timan structural area, along with the Proterozoic and Paleozoic associations of the orogenic belts and the Riphean sedimentary series of protrusions of the Russian Plate, structural formations that correspond to the terrain of the continental crust take part. They are the most characteristic for the Ural orogenic belt, which belongs to the group of epiokean-type belts, associated with the transformation of ocean basins with the active participation of accretion and collision processes. The parametric features of these terrains include the ancient age characteristics of terrain rocks, their position in the belt structure, as well as the presence of relics of subhorizontal layered structural elements. The discordant blocks of migmatites, gneisses and other metamorphic rocks of Precambrian age, which make up the terrains, was the basis for the introduction of the term “terranes of the ancient continental crust”. By connection with the source, exotic and endemic, and simple and complex terrains are distinguished by structure. The geodynamics of including terrains of the ancient continental crust into the structure of orogenic belts is associated with horizontal movements of fragments of the ancient lithosphere in oceanic paleobasins to the periphery of the Russian Plate and their localization in belt structures. The formation of these terrains in the structures of the orogenic belts is completed by the formation of the intra-terrain massifs of granitoids and belts of volcanic-intrusive series. Supporters of a different methodology, dominant among researchers of the Pacific Belt of the Northeast Segment of Eurasia, refer to terrains all the structural elements that perform orogenic belts, because they believe that they have undergone horizontal movements and are in allochtonous occurrence. Conclusions. It has been established that in different geological provinces the term terrain has its own characteristics. This was the basis for the selection of two geodynamic types of terrains.

The paper presents a review of processes of subduction or tectonic erosion at the Pacific-type convergent margins (PTCM) including definition of “tectonic erosion”, its triggers, driving forces and consequences. We review examples of tectonic erosion at the Circum-Pacific PTCMs and at the fossil PTCMs of the Paleo-Asian Ocean (PAO) currently hosted by the Central-Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). Recent geological and stratigraphic studies have shown two types of PTCMs: accreting and eroding. Accreting PTCMs consist of older deposits of accretionary and frontal prisms and grow oceanward, i.e. the trench retreats. Eroding PTCMs are characterized by the destruction of the prism, approaching arc and trench and typically form during shallow-angle and fast subduction of an oceanic slab with oceanic floor topographic highs. The mechanism of tectonic erosion includes destruction of oceanic slab, island arcs, accretionary prism, fore-arc and related prism. Tectonic erosion is a common phenomenon at many Circum-Pacific PTCMs, e.g., in South America, Tonga and Nankai troughs, Alaska. Accretion and subduction of oceanic rises contributes greatly to the processes of formation, transformation and destruction of continental crust at PTCM. The episodes of tectonic erosion can be also reconstructed for an ancient ocean, for example, for the PAO, which evolution and suturing formed the CAOB. Many CAOB foldbelts (Altai, Tienshan, eastern Kazakhstan, Transbaikalia, Mongolia) carry signs of disap-pearance of big volumes of continental crust (arcs). Studying processes responsible not only for the formation of continental crust, but also for the disappearance of big volumes of crustal mate-rial is important for correct evaluation of the nature of intra-continental orogenic belts, e.g., CAOB, and development of reliable tectonic models.

The review gives a write-up of the edition, its structure, composition and its material. The guidelines for teaching British literary Modernism, methods and concepts offered in the book are subject to a detailed analysis. The critical appraisal of its innovations, its tendency to extend and revise the canonical topics and the reading list, offer new points of view and unordinary approaches (in contrast with typical university curricula) is followed by critical remarks targeted at its weak points – poor reasoning and certain groundless pronouncements one sometimes comes across, principles that underlie the selection of material in particular chapters and paragraphs, correctness of style and conformity with the conventions of academic discourse. It is also emphasized that the book in question is a fascinating and enriching reading that will be duly appreciated by the students as well as colleagues and all readers interested in the British literary Modernism.

The analysis has been carried out and the laws of occurrence of emergency threats at pipeline transport facilities associated with the sequential damage of structural elements have been established. When an emergency situation develops, blocking of a separate system node is associated with simultaneous transition to a state of inoperability of all pipelines converging into the zone of that node. Such damage to the point element of the network structure prevents product flows from passing through that point. The ability of a system to withstand a progressive blocking depends on its composition, structure, and is characterized by an indicator of persistence, the value of which is calculated using a simulation method. An example of the use of cluster schemes in solving the problem of structural synthesis and the selection of the best protection option for a pipeline transport system has been considered.

The paper reports on the findings of a study on the influence of phylloxera-resistant rootstocks ‘Berlandieri’בRiparia Kober 5BB’ and ‘Berlandieri’בRiparia Teleki 4B (СО4)’ on the agro-biological and uvological indicators of Crimean aboriginal grapevine variety used in winemaking ‘Kokur Beliy in the conditions of Alushta valley (branch of Alushta FGUP PAO Massandra). The following were selected for research: plot № 361 with an area of 4.49 hectares with bushes of ‘Kokur Beliy’ grafted on rootstock of ‘Berlandieri’ × Riparia Kobera 5 BB’ (planting year - 2010, planting scheme 3 m ×1.25 m) and plot № 391 covering 3.06 hectares with ‘Kokur Beliy’ vines grafted on ‘Berlandieri’ × ‘Riparia Teleki 4B (СО4)’ rootstock - planting year - 2011, planting scheme 3 m×1 m). On both plots, the training system used was vertical three-wire trellis, vines shaped as AZOS-1, the trunk height 1.3 m. The paper demonstrates the relevance of the work on improvement of ‘Kokur Beliy’ cultivar with the help of clonal breeding on rootstock cultivar combination ‘Kokur Beliy’ rootstock ‘Kober 5 BB’: the plants demonstrated high relative productivity (0.92), quite large bunches (365 g), yield per bush made on average 4.74 kg/bush, very high shoot productivity as per raw bunch weight 336.6 g/shoot, a large percentage of pulp and juice output - 91.3 %. Assessment of the cultivar-rootstock combinations under production conditions allowed making individual selection of genotypically valuable, from the biological and economic points of view, plants.

The increasing numbers of newspaper reports on disappearing women from the north eastern state of Assam and especially from the economically backward areas of the state in recent years deserve close attention from both researchers' points of view as well as policy-level intervention of the larger community along with the government. This study makes an attempt to operate upon the menace area through the scalpel of game theory under the light of both primary and secondary data collected from the study area. It is an attempt to outline conscious human behaviour that leads to crimes such as women trafficking and identify the parameters controlling or affecting which types of crimes can be controlled. In order to do so, different distinct entities associated with the problem have been considered as different players leading to the concluding indication of prevailing flaws in the legal system of the country along with lack of employment opportunities and mass ignorance about the problem in hand among common people as the major reasons.

Polycystine radiolaria that produce siliceous tests are known to range from Cambrian to Holocene. They have proven to be enormously useful in providing age control for siliceous marine sequences of Middle Devonian and younger ages, particularly for cherts and shales that are commonly devoid of other biostratigraphically useful fossils. The utility of radiolarian biostratigraphy became widely recognized in the 1970s and 1980s when it was applied in dating deformed marine siliceous sequences in orogenic belts around the world, most notably in Cordilleran North America and other areas along the Pacific rim (e.g., Jones and Murchey, 1986; Aitchison and Murchey, 1992; Ichikawa et al., 1990).

Useful records of observations perhaps began in 1596 with Barents' voyage and resulting chart. The many expeditions until the middle of the eighteenth century were primarily for whaling with minor additions to the charts. In 1758 A. R. Martin led a Swedish voyage and in 1773 C. J. Phipps commanded a British naval expedition, the first of several, to seek a northeast passage to the Pacific. They penetrated no further than Spitsbergen and made useful observations. At that time and for many years the British Admiralty was concerned with extensive Arctic exploration. The elaborate nature of these expeditions was not so much designed for scientific purposes as for useful employment for enterprising officers, with ships in numbers no longer needed in the period of naval supremacy after 1805. Hydrographic survey was often the principal achievement. In terms of efficiency and Arctic know-how the early whalers such as Scoresby were superior.1827 may be considered as the year when geological work began, with expeditions from Norway (B. M. Keilhau 1831) and Britain (Capt. Parry, e.g. Horner 1860; Salter 1860). Keilhau, a geologist, visited Edgeoya and Bjornoya. Admiral Parry, Hydrographer of the Navy, wintered on HMS Hecla in Sorgfjorden where further specimens were collected. In 1837 an early Swedish expedition was directed by Loven. Then, 1838 to 1840, the French voyage of La Recherche took place under the Commission Scientifique du Nord (e.g. Robert 1840).Only a selection of the many expeditions in the second half of the century are noted here.
