Print media semiotic discourses are one of the best sites for ideological investment and their role is very significant in the production and dissemination of certain ideology. The aim of the present study is to critically decode the semiotic discourse(s) of Pakistani English newspaper DAWN (daily) with special reference to the representation of Pak- Us relationship through the analysis of the semiotics discourses. The data for the present research has been collected from the mentioned newspaper. The time span for data collection ranges from October 2018 to December 2018. Out of ten (10) caricatures which represent Pakistan attempting to survive at its own rather than depending on America one was purposively selected for linguistic and semiotic analyses. The study is descriptive and utilizes qualitative research design. For this purpose, the researchers have devised an amended research model by drawing upon Fairclough (1995), Kress (2010) and Kruger’s (2000) research models to analyse linguistic, semiotic and focus group discussions data. The semiotic analysis has also been validated by incorporating the remarks of focus group participants. Based on the analysis of data the study concludes that noting is absolute in politics as far as Pak- Us relations through semiotic discourses are concerned. Additionally, the research reveals that print media semiotic discourses work insidiously to represent socio- political changes by employing linguistic and meta-linguistic devices and techniques.

This study aims to reveal the cultural aspects of the Belitung Malay community in Andrea Hirata’s Novel Sirkus Pohon. The research applied Koentjoroningrat (2000) theory about cultural aspects. The research uses qualitative research which is described in the form of words in the discussion chapter. Qualitative method is used to understand the phenomenon of what is experienced by subjects holistically in a descriptive way in the form of words and languages in a context, especially natural ones by utilizing various natural methods (Moleong, 2010). The cultural elements of Koentjoroningrat (2000) are the source of study, namely aspects of language, knowledge systems, social systems or social organizations, systems of living equipment and technology, living systems, religious systems, and arts. In the discussion, it was found that the seven cultural aspects proposed by Koentjoroningrat are discussed in this study.

In qualitative research, the importance of knowledge production is illustrated by the confidence in logos, that still flags. Although there is significant attention for approaches that are inclusive to the body, affect and non-rational dimensions, these approaches still aim to generate understandings by the appropriation of knowledge. This paper critiques that view and proposes another view of inquiry that centers the praxis of living the questions instead. Here, research is seen as a gradual unfolding of a process. The quest that belongs with this view of research is concerned with how to make space for life phenomena to emerge. We frame this as apophatic inquiry, a non-methodology, as it is not a matter of applying activities in a set of steps. For apophatic inquiry, a process of unknowing and wonder is imperative. The paper discusses how to foster a triadic inter-beingness in a research praxis that fosters the calling forth of and reflection on phenomena. For that, the researcher nurtures awareness and reflection on a triadic sphere of three closely connected spaces: the Inner Space, the Aesthetic Space, and the Wondrous Space. By being receptive to the impressions that unfold within and between these spaces, the research becomes part of a process of living a question in real-time. Thus, living and life itself become the heart of the research.

Roskilde Festival is the largest Danish music festival and provides an empirical basis for a discussion of the relationship between the social and aesthetic in contemporary cultural events. With the unfolding of the concept of social aesthetics, it becomes clear that the aesthetic potential of the festival is not limited to what is going on “on-stage”, but unfolds throughout the festival landscape. Based on ethnographical observation and phenomenological analysis of two different experience positions: “the panorama” and “the performative mass”, it is discussed how participation unfolds in the socio-aesthetic landscape of the festival. Through a review of the mass as an aesthetic phenomenon it is discussed how the aesthetic of participation succeed in transcending the dichotomy between subject and object ultimately leading to an aesthetic of dissolution.

This article explores the use of biographies in qualitative research about collective memory. It is argued that commemorative ceremonies, as well as changes appearing in macro-level structures within the time-span of individuals’ life histories need to be included when analyzing biographies in collective memory studies. The article suggests enhancement of the biographical case reconstruction method (Rosenthal 1993; 2004) with two additional stages: analysis of the experienced past with more emphasis on socio-historical transformations; and inclusion and analysis of the ethnographical data collected from collective mnemonic practices. By providing empirical data from the research conducted with political exiles in Germany, these analytical steps of the method of socio-historical analysis are demonstrated in detail.

In Indonesia, one of the institutions authorized to issue fatwas is the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI). MUI is an institution with the role and authority to issue fatwas for Indonesian citizens who are diverse in Islam which are not mentioned in the Al-Quran and Hadith. Although not all groups can accept the fatwa issued by the MUI or there are reaping criticism and controversy by some circles, the influence and role of the MUI fatwa are considerable in maintaining the peace of the Indonesian people. Departing from this, it is essential to see fatwas based on the characteristics and essence of fatwas on Islamic economic law. This paper is conducted in qualitative research. There are several approaches used in this paper, namely, the normative approach, the historical approach, and the political approach. This paper aims to reveal the characteristics and essence of fatwas on sharia economic law in Indonesia. The analysis results show that fatwas as a product of Islamic law are identical to fiqh and have inherent specific characteristization. In essence, a fatwa can become state law if there is recognition through competent state institutions.

Whenever we peruse through the works of Abu Tammam, we would find him being subjected to criticism or disparagement at times or being spoken about and praised at others by a multitude of critics be they prominent or not. Abu Tammam al-Ta'i poetry receded into history, is of a contemporaneous soul; his language, ever so scintillating, dazzles the discerner with pearls that fascinate the spirit before so the thought or sight. On this premise, this study was done based on the idea of observing how Al-Ta’i was influenced by previous poets. Thus, this study aims at observing previous poets' influence over Abu Tammam, which is considered an imprinted characteristic in his poetry- according to Al-Amedi's accusation, when he considered him as following in the path of the modernists. Furthermore, this study aims to elucidate these poetical aesthetics in the meanings that were evoked by Abu Tammam from the poetry of those who came before him, as well as to discuss the views of critics who critically dealt with the poetry of Abu Tammam, especially Al-Amedi in "Al-Mwazanah", and Al-Marzabani in "Al-Muwashah". To prove the two-way poetical influence, this study adopts a methodology that relies on the historical approach. Furthermore, it capitalizes on intertextuality to reveal how Abu Tammam was influenced by previous poets, resorting to analysis as an important procedural tool to get a sense of the aesthetics of Abu Tammam's poetry and that aforementioned influence.
