Chemical composition and ruminal digestion parameters were mea- sured in the silage of the whole corn plant (Zea mays L.) mixed with mulberry foliage (Morus alba L.) in ratio of 100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80 and 00:100% of fresh forage weight, respectively. The 40:60 ratio of corn: mulberry increased crude protein content (CP = 14.28%) and decreased hemicellulose (12.15%), neutral (NDF = 28.00%) and acidic (ADF = 15.85%) detergent fiber, compared to 100: 0% ratio, respectively, which led to a 21.3% increase in in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD). Also ammoniacal nitrogen 7.40% (NH3-N/total N) was higher in the ratio 40:60%, with pH of 4.19 which is normal for silages, which translates the buffer activity correct of ammonia and its importance for silage fermentation stability. The correlation (r = 0.61, p < 0.001) indicated that at higher CP content, higher is IVDMD and hemicellulose (r = -0.99), ADF (r = -0.98) and NDF (r = -0.98) indicated that these fibrous compounds decreased IVDMD (p < 0.001). The regression showed that the increase in content CP (0.555%, p < 0.01) and IVDMD (0.3391%, p < 0.001) with the decrease of NDF (-0.3526%), ADF (-0.1623%) and hemicellulose (-0.1903%) (p < 0.001) in mixed mini silos, was attributed to mulberry foliage addition. It is concluded that the contribution of dry matter and nitrogen of mulberry, decreased the fiber content and increased digestibility parameters of silage when it is elaborated in ratio of 40:60 corn and mulberry, respectively.

Aim. To optimize the methane digestion process while using different recipes of substrate components of ag- ricultural origin. Methods. The chemical composition of separate components of the substrate of agricultural by-products, industrial wastes, fats of the agrorefi nery and corn silage was studied. Dry (organic) mass, crude protein (fat) fi ber, loose ash, nitrogen-free exhaust were estimated in the components and the productivity of biogas was determined along with the methane content. These data were used as a basis for daily recipes of the substrate and the analysis of biogas production at the biogas station in Kostkowice. Results. The application of by-products of agricultural production solves the problem of their storage on boards and in open containers, which reduces investment costs, related to the installation of units for their storage. Conclusions. The return on investment for obtaining electric energy out of agricultural biogas depends considerably on the kind of the substrate used and on technological and market conditions.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the forage type and chop length of ramie (Boehmeria nivea (L.) Gaud.) silage on rumen fermentation and ruminal microbiota in black goats. Sixteen Liuyang black goats (22.35 ± 2.16 kg) were fed with the roughage of corn silage or ramie silage at chop lengths of 1, 2, or 3 cm. The Chao 1 index and the observed number of microbial species differed significantly between the corn and ramie silage groups (p < 0.05); however, Firmicutes (relative proportion: 34.99–56.68%), Bacteroidetes (27.41–47.73%), and Proteobacteria (1.44–3.92%) were the predominant phyla in both groups. The relative abundance of Verrucomicrobia (0.32–0.82%) was lowest for the 2 and 3 cm chop lengths (p < 0.05) and was negatively correlated with rumen pH and propionic acid concentration (p < 0.05), but positively correlated with the ratio of acetic acid to propionic acid (p < 0.05). The ramie silage fermentation quality was highest for the 1 cm chop length, suggesting that moderate chopping produces optimal quality silage.

Due to the seasonal cycle of forage, the use of silage to feed animals provides nutrients throughout the year. However, its quality can be improved with the inclusion of additives and other products. Glycerol is a rich source of energy and present a high efficiency of utilization by animals. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the effect of glycerol inclusion on the chemical and fermentation characteristics of corn and sunflower silages. Two silage sources (maize and sunflower) were used and four levels of glycerol inclusion (0, 15, 30 and 45%) based on dry matter were carried out. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x 4 factorial arrangement with five replications. The pH values and chemical composition of corn and sunflower silages were determined. In both silages there was increment of dry matter, non-fiber carbohydrates and total digestible nutrients (TDN) added to a reduction of crude protein, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber due to the glycerol inclusion. The corn silage required 45% glycerol to achieve the TDN level of the sunflower silage. The glycerol addition contributed to the increase in the nutritional value, offsetting loss of quality in the ensiling process.

24 Large White X Landrace pigs weaned at 28 about 10% of the total feed is said to offer days with initial liveweight of 5.27±0.23 kg were valuable additional micro-nutrients such as fed four animal protein concentrates (fish meal However, almost all the fish (FM), Chicken offal meal (COM), fresh blood meal (FBM) and parboiled blood meal (PBM) diets based on full-fat soybean (FFSB) for 8 prices weeks to test different animal protein sources of protein and for early weaned pig. The diets contained 23% crude protein and 3100 Kcal ME/kg diet. Blood meal slightly reduced weight gain and feed intake but compared favourably with fish meal and chicken offal meal in efficiency of feed utilization. Parboiling of the blood slightly (P>0.05) depressed the performance of the pigs;even when the pigs had the same feed intake.. Fish meal increased (P<0.05) serum total protein and serum albumin levels.This study indicated that early weaned pigs fed soybean based diets supplemented with chicken offal meal and blood meal gave similar performance to those fed diet supplemented with fish meal.

Thirty-two Holstein cows in second or later lactation were randomly allocated to four treatment groups within 7 to 10 wk postpartum. Treatment rations were fed ad libitum as a complete feed and consisted of a negative control group which was fed a corn-oats-barley concentrate-corn silage mixture (40:60) with 9.4% crude protein, a urea silage group fed the same grain concentrate mixed with corn silage that contained 0.6% urea (on a fresh weight basis) to give 12.5% total ration crude protein, a group fed a soybean meal concentrate mixed with corn silage (12.7% crude protein), and a group fed a 3% urea corn-oats-barley concentrate mixed with corn silage to give a 12.8% total ration crude protein. The three groups supplemented with protein or non-protein nitrogen had greater weight gains, feed consumption, milk yields, milk persistencies, rumen ammonia nitrogen concentrations and greater rumen microbial cell populations than the negative control group. The results indicate that urea supports milk production when fed as part of a complete feed. Previous work showed that the same daily intake of urea when fed twice daily as part of the concentrate was ineffective.

Abstract The objectives of this study were to assess graded inclusions of sunflower protein meal (SPM; crude protein: 54%, crude fat: 11%, crude fiber: 4%) and dried yeast (DY; crude protein: 50%, crude fat: 3%, crude fiber: 2%) on nutrient digestibility, stool quality, and palatability in adult cats. Both SPM and DY were included at 5% and 10% in replacement of pea protein in a high-protein, chicken-based feline diet to maintain equal macronutrient concentrations across all test diets (formulated to 41% crude protein, 18% crude fat, 3% crude fiber). The study was approved and followed by the facility’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. A standard 2-bowl palatability test over a 2-day period was executed with adult cats (n = 30 each) to determine intake ratios between test diets (5% and 10% SPM or 5% and 10% DY), and test diets vs. control. Total tract nutrient digestibility was evaluated (n = 8 per diet) with 5 days of diet acclimation followed by 5 days of total fecal collection. Stool quality was evaluated on a 1–5 scale, where 1 = hard/formed and 5 = non-formed/diarrhea. All data were analyzed by ANOVA (SAS v9.4) and T-tests post-hoc (Minitab 18). Palatability and stool quality were similar (P &gt; 0.05) between all diets. Protein digestibility was lower for DY-containing diets, compared with control (5% DY at P = 0.0083 and 10% DY at P = 0.0336), but not significantly different for SPM diets (P &gt; 0.05). However, average protein digestibility was &gt;88% across all diets. The alternative protein sources tested showed merit for inclusion to diversify ingredient sources while maintaining palatability in cat diets.
