The article presents the results of a survey of senior medical students aimed at identifying the problems of distance learning in terms of the formation of practical skills and communicative competence. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that at the present time the world is undergoing major changes not only in the field of health, but also in education. One of the primary tasks of higher education is the formation of professional competencies of future specialists. Communicative competence refers to the basic component in the medical profession, so its formation is given great importance in the process of teaching students. However, due to the fact that there was a difficult situation in the country and the world, students began to be transferred to distance learning, which could not but affect the formation of communicative competence and the development of practical skills by students. A huge number of students switched to distance learning, including a number of disciplines were taught online, including students of the medical University. However, this has led to difficulties in the formation of communicative and practice-oriented competencies among senior medical students. In connection with the above, the aim of the study was a comprehensive assessment of the problems in the formation of communicative and practice-oriented competencies of senior medical students in distance learning. Based on the obtained data the proposed methods for the solution of identified problems with the use of distance learning.

The study is devoted to the analysis of the formation of physical culture of students in a medical university. The specificity of the medical profession contains a number of important characteristics (emotional and volitional stability, endurance, physical and mental endurance, dexterity in carrying out medical procedures, motor coordination, etc.) that require appropriate physical training. Physical culture in this regard for physicians is not only a part of general culture, but also a professional culture. However, as shown by a sociological survey of medical students, they do not sufficiently assess the degree of importance of the discipline “Physical culture”. This requires the development of new approaches to organizing and conducting physical education classes in a medical University including such as the proposed practice-oriented (D.A. will allow raising the status of the discipline in question in a medical university and linking it with the professional training of medical students.

Abstract Background: Today, schizophrenia remains stigmatized all over the world, and for patients with schizophrenia, the experience of stigma makes improving their lives difficult. Changing of attitudes toward schizophrenia is an important theme not only for medical professionals but also medical students. We therefore invested investigate negative attitudes toward schizophrenia among psychiatric staff, psychiatrists, physicians, medical students, and non-medical workers. Methods: Participants in this study included 490 medical students, 25 psychiatric staff, 13 psychiatrists, 48 physicians, and 222 non-medical workers in Fukushima Medical University, in Japan. We conducted an internet-based questionnaire survey, using a web-based survey tool. We used an 18-item questionnaire on attitudes toward schizophrenia that comprised three factors: stigma, underestimation of patients’ abilities, and skepticism regarding treatment. To compare the scores for each of these factors among the five participant groups, analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to adjust for age and sex. Results: Psychiatrists’ “stigma” and “underestimation of patients’ abilities” scores were significantly lower than those of non-medical workers, physicians, and medical students. The “skepticism regarding treatment” scores were not significantly different among the five groups. For medical students, hoping to become a psychiatrist in the future had the great impact on improving attitudes toward schizophrenia. Conclusion: Medical students had more negative attitudes toward schizophrenia than psychiatrists, but equally negative attitudes compared with physicians and non-medical workers.

The article is devoted to the study of some aspects of teaching students with health limitations and disabilities in a medical university. Currently, in Russia and around the world, inclusive and integrated education continues to develop, elements of which can be found in medical universities. At the same time, a complete transition to an inclusive education of medical students is impossible for a number of reasons, at the head of which are certain requirements for the future physician, who must have a certain amount of health, not only physical, but also mental. Unfortunately, not enough research is devoted to the aspects of teaching students with health limitations and disabilities in medical universities – the study of which became the purpose of the presented work. The objects of the research conducted from 2018 to 2021 at the N.N. Burdenko, 30 medical students served, divided in-to 3 groups of 10 people, depending on the etiology of their pathology. So, 1st group consisted of students with insignificant disabilities. The 2nd group included students with disabilities established from their birth or childhood. The 3rd group consisted of future physicians whose disability was established during their studies at a university (often as a result of an accident). In the work, the sex and age composition of the subjects was determined, the ratio of students to existing faculties was studied, the pathology most often encountered in persons with disabilities and disabilities was studied, the attitude of others to the respondents was deter-mined, as well as their own opinion regarding various aspects of the educational process at a medical university. The work is of interest for the staff of the departments of a medical university who are related to working with students with health limitations or disabilities.

The article is devoted to the study of the reasons for volunteering among students of a medical university during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the definition of some of its psychological aspects. This topic is currently very relevant, since now a pandemic of a new coronavirus infection continues in the world. Given the widespread shortage of medical personnel, volunteer assistance is becoming an extremely important aspect in the comprehensive process of providing comprehensive care to covid patients. Medical students in their volunteering activities most often find their «place» either in hospitals or in call centers. The objects of a 2-stage study, conducted in May – June 2020 and in December – January 2021, were 150 medical students, divided by 50 people into 3 groups, depending on the course of students (1–2, 3–4, 5–6). The main reasons that prompted medical students to volunteer were studied, as well as their changes in dynamics, from the «first wave» to the «second wave» of Covid-19. It was found that most of the future doctors were eager to help people and participate in the general fight against the new coronavirus infection. The next part of the study was to determine, using the Spielberg method, the levels of anxiety among students during the «first and second» waves. A certain dynamics of various levels of anxiety was revealed, which may indicate a kind of psychological adaptation. This work is of certain interest, both for practicing psychologists and for teachers of higher education.

Summary Background The COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic hit the world in early 2020 and influenced medical education worldwide. Distance learning, risk of infection and patient care, telehealth literacy, medical ethics and research in medical education are key factors of medical education challenged by the pandemic. Additionally, the following question arises: “What do medical students think about their future profession in the face of this crisis?” Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among all undergraduate medical students of the Medical University of Vienna. 872 students answered the self-developed questionnaire. Qualitative and quantitative data analyses were conducted. Results The data show that the COVID-19 pandemic has raised awareness for the key aspects. In all areas of interest, students’ feeling of petaredness is limited. Limitations in practical training and distance learning as well as social isolation concern a majority of students. Neutral, positive, and negative themes emerged in qualitative data analysis. Only 8% of the students of the first 3 years of study versus 13.4% of the students in higher years commented negatively. 18.7% of male vs. only 12.5% of all female students’ comments were positive. A large proportion of positive comments were dedicated to the relevance and deeper meaning of the medical profession. Infection risk and the demanding nature of the medical profession were predominant in negative comments. Conclusion The COVID-19 crisis has turned the spotlight on several aspects of medical education in need of reform. In addition, the occupational image of the medical profession seems to shift under the weight of this pandemic.

According to UNESCO statistics, more than 1.5 billion children and youth in 188 countries around the globe have to stay home due to the closure of schools and higher education institutions following the Coronavirus outbreak [1]. The aim of our work was to study the features of teaching clinical disciplines to medical students during distance learning and to develop an algorithm to improve practical skills and abilities. The study included 260 fourth-year medical students. Surveys were conducted anonymously in a randomized manner to increase the reliability of the results, using Google Forms (software for administering the survey, which is part of the free web package Google Docs Editors, offered by Google). The whole list of questions was compiled into one questionnaire, to each of which the student had to give a positive or negative answer. After analyzing the answers to the questions about the resources that contribute to better learning of practical skills during distance learning, the majority of 204 (78.5%) respondents chose simulation technologies, 38 students (14.6%) preferred video interviews followed by discussion and only 18 people (6.9%) - solving clinical tasks and tests. According to the results of the research, the highest indicators of mastering practical skills and abilities were students who worked them in the educational and training center of simulation medicine and innovative technologies.

Objective – to study the organization peculiarities of the educational process at the Histology Department using remote technologies among foreign 2nd-year students of the medical faculty of the HSEE of Ukraine “National Pirogov Memorial Medical University”, Vinnytsia.Material and methods. During the research, 90 foreign students (59 boys and 31 girls) aged 18.40 ± 0.17 years were interviewed. The survey was conducted by questionnaire in English, which consisted of 8 questions that highlighted the satisfaction and adaptation of foreign students to the learning process using distance technology (Microsoft Teams platform).Results. The study showed that the vast majority of respondents had no difficulties in mastering the interface of the Microsoft Teams platform. This, in turn, indicates the fast adaptive capability of foreign students to master remote technologies in a COVID-19 pandemic. In 43.33% of students, the subjective assessment of their knowledge is quite critical since they remained, to a certain extent, dissatisfied with the level of expertise that they received during distance learning. The survey showed that 62.69% of students were satisfied with the organization of distance learning at the histology department. The lack of full-fledged practical skills (working with a real microscope and self-recognition of all elements of the histological slide) creates a "practical deficiency" for the student.Conclusion. During the COVID-19 pandemic, distance learning in higher medical education institutions is a necessary element of the continuous education process, but it needs to be improved and cannot be a full-fledged replacement for its traditional forms.

Introduction: The medical profession was formerly a male-dominated one, but over the years, the population of female medical students has risen. The representation of women in surgery and allied specialities has always been a debate accross the world. Like most surgical fields, Urology remains a male dominant profession. A critical component of the advancement of any field is the reqruitment of the brightest medical students of both genders. To improve the distaff workforce, it is important to understand why qualified students would not enter the field. Objectives & Methodology: A total of 218 questionnaires were filled. 94 from final year students, and 124 house officers and postgraduate female doctors. The respondents were asked to choose the most appropriate response and choices among the options listed and were allowed to choose at least one but not more than three options. Results: Out of 218 females, only 26% choose to opt a career in urology, where as 74% females had a clear answer that was NO. Those who wished to join surgery considered stress during the working hours (47.8%), lifestyle and family concerns (45.7%), and interest that developed during the medical graduation (35.7%) as strong determinants. Male dominance in the field (47.8%), “do not want to operate on the genitals” (45.6%), and cultural issues (29.1%) to be the most deterring factors. Discussion: The choice of specialty by medical students is a complex process involving a myriad of variables. Lifestyle and family concerns have been the most important determining factor for choice in any surgical field (urology career 5), 45.7% in our study, which is consistent with other studies across the world, but surprisingly 15.9% of respondents cited lifestyle as a negative factor in choosing the field. The more concerning factors that refrain the final year students to enter the field as compared to house officers and postgraduate residents were lack of interest, poor lifestyle, and high work stress in the field. Adequate clinical exposure to urology enables medical students to build a rational perception of the field. The decision making can be unbiased only when it is not influenced by myths related to urology and other specializations. Conclusion It is important to develop a realistic perception of urological field that includes female urology as well. It should be ensured that medical students have clinical exposure to urology, receiving appropriate mentorship, and develop a curriculam of the specialty during undergraduate program that may substantially facilitate recruitment.
