The purpose of this study was to examine the presence of elements of participative management in the current management practices in the university libraries of Punjab (Pakistan). Seven components of participative management (Organizational structure; Leadership; Decision making; Goal setting; Motivation; Communication process; and Management controls), identified from the previous studies, were selected with the help of management experts. The idea was to develop a more comprehensive study later covering all aspects of participative management. Therefore, a beginning was made to examine the perceptions of senior librarians to find out gaps in the current practice of participative management in the university libraries. The participants included the head librarian and three senior most professionals from each library. Survey method, with a questionnaire, was used. Findings revealed that all the seven components of participative management were generally favoured by the respondents. Both groups of respondents had significant differences on four components: leadership, decision making, goal-setting and motivation. Suggestions are made to improve participative management in these libraries.

Safety as essential quality, needed in the development strategy of every city should be constantly improved by newest technologies. As currently used software and practices were studied, it can be seen that in Smart City concepts, technologies help with governing the city mainly in the field of obtaining, processing and providing information. Interconnection of many various information sources brings the possibility of storing all the information in one central data storage, instead of separated storages for every individual informational source. Taking the information from a central informational centre and their automatic, real-time visualization by simulation technologies can improve safety in the below described ways. By combining advantages of interconnectivity and simulation technologies, we aim to take advantage of their identified possibilities in order to enhance crisis management in all phases of its model. The period before crisis event occurrence consists of the phaseof prevention and the phase of crisis planning. Within the period after crisis event occurrence, there are phases of response and recovery. In this paper, we also present The Laboratory of Modelling and Simulation of Crisis Phenomena in Traffic, which is a part of the University Science Park of the University of Žilina. This laboratory disposes of program VR Forces®, that is used in our research.

The conditions are investigated in which Spanish university teachers carry out their teaching and research functions. 655 teachers from the University of Oviedo took part in this study by completing the Academic Setting Evaluation Questionnaire (ASEQ). Of the three dimensions assessed in the ASEQ, Satisfaction received the lowest ratings, Social Climate was rated higher, and Relations with students was rated the highest. These results are similar to those found in two studies carried out in the academic years 1986/87 and 1989/90. Their relevance for higher education is twofold because these data can be used as a complement of those obtained by means of students' opinions, and the crossing of both types of data can facilitate decision making in order to improve the quality of the work (teaching and research) of the university institutions.

AbstractThe main lines ofthe program designed for the interpretation of ECGs, developed in Padova by LADSEB-CNR with the cooperation of the Medical School of the University of Padova are described. In particular, the strategies used for (i) morphology recognition, (ii) measurement evaluation, and (iii) linguistic decision making are illustrated. The main aspect which discerns this program in comparison with other approaches to computerized electrocardiography is its ability of managing the imprecision in both the measurements and the medical knowledge through the use of fuzzy-set methodologies. So-called possibility distributions are used to represent ill-defined parameters as well as threshold limits for diagnostic criteria. In this way, smooth conclusions are derived when the evidence does not support a crisp decision. The influence of the CSE project on the evolution of the Padova program is illustrated.

Organizations should prepare for crises, through identifying crisis concerns, having written crisis communication plans, and designating teams for crisis planning and response, for example. Nonprofit organizations, which represent an important sector of U.S. society, are no different in needing to prepare, but to date, a review of their crisis communication preparedness is lacking. Therefore, a national online survey of 2,005 U.S. charitable organizations was administered to determine nonprofit organizations’ adoption of an anticipatory perspective of crisis management. The anticipatory perspective shifts the organization’s focus from reaction to crises to anticipation of them. According to the survey, 75% of organizations reported at least one organizational crisis in the 24 months prior to taking the survey (circa 2017–2019). Loss of a major stakeholder was the most common organizational crisis that had occurred and the greatest future concern. Most nonprofits (97.5%) reported implementing some crisis communication preparedness tactics. Importantly, charitable organizations can enact communication preparedness tactics without significantly detracting from program delivery. Moreover, given the general concerns within the sector, nonprofit organizations should prepare specifically for loss of a major stakeholder and technologically created crises such as data breaches and negative word of mouth on social media.
