The purpose of this study was to examine the presence of elements of participative management in the current management practices in the university libraries of Punjab (Pakistan). Seven components of participative management (Organizational structure; Leadership; Decision making; Goal setting; Motivation; Communication process; and Management controls), identified from the previous studies, were selected with the help of management experts. The idea was to develop a more comprehensive study later covering all aspects of participative management. Therefore, a beginning was made to examine the perceptions of senior librarians to find out gaps in the current practice of participative management in the university libraries. The participants included the head librarian and three senior most professionals from each library. Survey method, with a questionnaire, was used. Findings revealed that all the seven components of participative management were generally favoured by the respondents. Both groups of respondents had significant differences on four components: leadership, decision making, goal-setting and motivation. Suggestions are made to improve participative management in these libraries.

The study aimed at measuring senior management degree of crisis management practice and the ability to make decisions to solve university problems at Mu'tah University in Karak Governorate in Jordan. The researcher used the descriptive analytical and survey method. Then she developed two scales; First: to measure crisis management, and second: to measure making decisions by senior management to solve university problems. The sample of the study consisted of (85) senior management administrators (males &females) at the University of Karak. The results revealed that the total mean of the crisis management came high with a mean of (3.71) and a percentage of (74.2%), where the crisis planning was high with a percentage of (80.4%). The communication process in crises was high at (77%), And facing the crises by (71.2%), while the crisis teams came in a medium degree with (68.2%). The results showed that the total mean of the decision-making was medium with a mean of (3.50) and a percentage of (70%), while decision making and identifying the problem came in the first rank with the highest mean of (3.85), and a percentage of (77%), while decision making and collecting data came medium with a (72.8%). But decision making and choosing the alternative came medium with (69.4%), while decision making came medium and ranked last with a percentage of 60.6%. The results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences due to the effect of gender, with a value of (0.325) and a significance of (0.570). And there were a statistically significant differences due to the administrative experience, where the differences came in favor of (20 years and more) group. The result revealed a positive significant relationship between the level of senior management of crisis management practice to solve university problems at Mu'tah University and the level of senior management ability to make decisions to solve university problems.

This study aims to determine the form of productive zakat distribution activities for empowering MSMEs in LAZISMU Gresik district and determine several factors that influence the effectiveness of these activities. This research used descriptive qualitative reseacrh method. Qualitative descriptive was used to descriptive and examine in depth the form of productive zakat distribution activites for empowering MSMEs in LAZISMU district and the factors that influenced the effectiveness of these activities. Them, the data collection technique was carried out by means of interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this study were as follows. First, the activity that moved to increase community potentiol in the Economic field. There were certain rules that had to be followed In this activity. Among them were the distribution system, the form of zakat distribution, the distribution pattern, the criteria for productive zakat recipient groups to the stages or procedure for disturbing zakat potential beneficiaries. Second, there were several factors that influenced the productive zakat distribution activities for the empowerment of MSMEs in LAZISMU Gresik regency. Among them were goal setting, human resource search and utilization, achievement environment, communication process, leadership and decision making, and innovation.

The article highlights the skills and competencies needed by library professionals in effectively participating in knowledge management practices in University libraries, based on a study conducted in the University libraries in Kerala. Knowledge and knowledge products gained prominence in the world. Developments in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have its positive effect on the library environment. It revolutionized the library services. Universities impart knowledge and it creates knowledgeable citizens that are able to contribute to the economic development of the nation. University Libraries support the parent institution. New tools, for accessing, processing and disseminating information have emerged and as such, library which is an integral part of the society also began adopting the technologies in rendering efficient services to its stakeholders. As a result the librarians have to acquire new roles and new methods for serving the users. KM practices demand new skills to manage resources.

This study explores the general perspectives of library and information science (LIS) professionals on knowledge management in the university libraries of Pakistan. The study specifically examines the perceptions, understandings, role and responsibilities of Pakistani LIS professionals toward knowledge management. A questionnaire was used as an instrument to evaluate the perceptions, understandings, role and responsibilities of LIS professionals toward knowledge management. The questionnaires were administered to subject librarians who were included in the sample at the universities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Generalising the findings of this study over the population of LIS community in Pakistan reveals that knowledge management is for the improvement of library services and productive purposes. Accordingly, the Pakistani LIS professionals use knowledge management practices for the improvement of their respective library service. The LIS community is also very familiar with the term “knowledge management”. It succeeded mainly to generalise that majority of the LIS professionals mentioned that they have used knowledge management in their libraries.

The study aims to identify the periodicals because it considers one of the sources of important information in scientific research in its traditional and elecuonic form in the university libraries and its uses from the beneficiaries.      The survey method was followed in the concerned study in the three university libraries. The main lindings and recommendations in the study:       The weakness and lack of electronic tools in the titles  of electronic journals and how to use them in the libraries of the University of Technology and the University of Babylon, in contrast to the University of Baghdad, where the availableit e-mail. Displays and contact –us service moreover the availability of billboards and ongoing briefing and broadcast  selectively service and activate them in the libraries of the University of Technology and Baghdad to make maximums use of the periodicals section.

The present study describes the comparison on use of online public access catalogue at Jamia Hamdard and Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi. In this study survey method was adopted to collect the data from the users. The data revealed that the maximum number of 36.6% users visited the library biweekly, 33.0% users spent their time more than one hour in the library for using library facilities in a day, 43.1% users searched their required information s the help of OPAC system, 38.5% users learnt the use of OPAC with the help of library staff, 36.0% users most of times obtained their searched documents on the shelves after searching of OPAC, 33.8% users faced problems of less awareness of OPAC system and 36.0% users were satisfied with the present OPAC searching facility in both the university libraries of Jamia Hamdard and Jamia Milia Islamia.

The librarians are often encouraged to maintain and keep their collections accessible through digitization as their stock in trade is their collection. This study examined capacity building initiatives in preservation techniques in selected libraries and assessed the level of training received by different library staff. Four university libraries were randomly selected and a descriptive survey method using a self-developed questionnaire. The respondents comprised librarians and non-librarians. A total of one hundred and twenty copies of questionnaires were distributed, but a hundred and twelve was retrieved and used for the analysis. The study revealed that there were no professionals to manage the preservation section of the university library and as such, most institutions make do with Para-professionals like binders, technicians and library officers etc. Analysis from the respondent’s show that Universities in Nigeria are not exposed to capacity building in preservation. Finally, regular trainings are vital for the development of all staff and for any university to stand out amongst others; there must be provision for usual capacity building of both faculty and staff.

Purpose of this paper This paper aims to discuss the case of implementing participative management practices to support changes required following the introduction of a new strategy in a Russian bank. It provides a detailed description of the entire process including the methods implemented and the results achieved. The case study provides insights on how to extend participative management into an organization set in a context of strict regulative policies and an authoritarian culture. Design/methodology/approach The paper presents a case study on how participative management practices were implemented in a Russian bank and provides insights from the case. Findings The findings indicate some successful practices of participative management which can be implemented to identify problems/needs and assist with quick and collaborative decision-making for change without breaking strict banking normative procedures. Practical implications The paper provides insights for further implementation of participative management practices into organizations in an authoritarian context. Originality/Value The paper presents empirical evidence of participative management implementation. This is uncommon for Russian organizations, where the authoritarian culture dominates. Other researchers and managers can use this paper as a source to guide changes within other companies and sectors in similar cultures.
