The ulcers are complications, and as a disease, it is called PUD (Peptic Ulcer Disease). In the current scenario, a large population around the world are suffering from the ulcers, which are ranging from 25-55 years the age. This is not so dangerous as such but can become most dreadful when untreated or unattended. PUD can become the causes for other diseases like malnutrition, stomach pain etc. there are a lot of factors that are responsible for causing an ulcer. Few of them are the prolonged use of pain medications, malnutrition, stress and free radicals. There are also medicinal plants that are used to treat ulcers and effectively cure them without causing significant side effects. Various research publications prove the antiulcer property of the herbs and plants. The ayurvedic tonic formulation was prepared using the herbs and sugar base. The formulation was investigated for the antiulcer activity in the Ethanol-induced ulcers method. The antiulcer activity was investigated using two doses and compared to the ayurvedic standard marketed formulation and the standard drug omeprazole.

Ulcers are one of the dreadful and technically known as Peptic Ulcer Disease (PU Disease). Around 10million people around the world are suffering from the disease, and the majority of the people are about 20-50 years of age. This is not a dangerous disease on its own. Still, the ulcers are responsible for the resulting in other diseases like indigestion stomach pain etc. there are various reasons for the causation of ulcer. They are excessive use of pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs, malnutrition, and unhealthy food habits, stress and steroids. Almost half of the world population relies on herbs for the treatment, and the major sources of the chemical leads that treat diseases are in the medicinal plants only. Many plants have been investigated and reported for their potential antiulcer benefits and are published too for that. The plant parts of Malvastrum tricuspidatum were extracted using distilled water and were investigated for the antiulcer activity in 3 doses like 100,200 and 400mg. The Extract at a higher dose showed better activity than other lower doses. The activity was compared with the standard drug and showed a significantly better activity that the standard and other doses of Extract too.

Peptic ulcer disease, otherwise called as Ulcers, is the most noted disease in the world today. A large population that is affected with the ulcer disease is the age group of people between 20-50 years of age. This disease is not dreadful on its own but is responsible for the causation of many other problems and diseases in the body. This may be due to various factors like the long-term usage of potent drugs like NSAID's, nutrition deficiencies, and unhealthy lifestyle habits like smoking, stress etc. Herbs are being used to treat many diseases, and almost 50% of the population in the world uses herbal-based medicine. Medicinal plants are the primary sources of a cure for those diseases. Numerous plants have been researched and investigated for the anti-ulcer property, and various publications were made too in this respect. Aqueous extract of the plant, Osyris quadripartite was extracted and investigated for the anti-ulcer activity in the ethanol-induced ulcer disease method. The extracts were tested in three doses and compared to the standard drug, Omeprazole. The extract at a higher dose exhibited more significant activity when compared to that at a lower dose and also the standard drug.

Peptic ulcers are described by erosions of the gastrointestinal mucosa that can reach the muscular layer. Peptic ulcers are a widespread health condition that affects millions of individuals and has a high recurrence rate. “No gastric acid, no peptic ulcer” is a flawed assumption. Excessive gastric acid secretion is only one factor in the pathogenesis of peptic ulcer disease. Their etiology is multifactorial and develops when the balance of offensive and protective components is disrupted. Its treatment faces great difficulties due to the limited effectiveness and severe side effects of the currently available drugs. Natural products such as herbal plants and their isolated compounds have been widely used in experimental models of peptic ulcers. Flavonoids strengthened defensive factors had cytoprotective and rehabilitative actions. Flavonoids are among the molecules of greatest interest in biological assays due to their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties. The present study is a literature review of herbal plants having flavonoid that have been reported to show peptic ulcer activity in experimental models using the divergent mechanism of action.

In the Indian traditional system of medicineOperculina turpethumis commonly used to treat various ailments including peptic ulcer, inflammation, and pain. Ulcer preventive and ulcer protective activities of HAOP and MOP stem bark extracts ofOperculina turpethum(100 mg/kg, b.w., orally) were evaluated employing aspirin + pylorus ligation (APL) model in experimental rats. The results suggested that both extracts (HAOP and MOP) possess enhanced ulcer preventive and protective activities when compared with the standard drug ranitidine. HAOP showed more pronounced effect when compared to MOP. Further the result of the histopathological and biochemical studies also confirms potent ulcer preventive and protective nature of a extracts in a similar manner.

Background: Gastrointestinal perforation is one of the most commonly encountered cases in emergency department. Acute perforation of the stomach and duodenum causes significant morbidity and mortality. These perforations occur more commonly as a complication of peptic ulcer disease but in a few cases gastric cancer also present as gastric/antral perforation. Previously it was reported that approximately 10-16% of all gastric are caused by malignancy/gastric cancer. To study the incidence of malignancy in gastric perforation in present time, a study was carried out at our institute including all cases of gastric/antral perforations that presented to emergency department over a period of two years. Methods: Cases of gastric/antral perforation that presented to our emergency were included in study. Biopsy from the margin of perforation was taken and sent for histopathological examination. Results obtained were further analysed with respect to total no. of cases, age, sex, personal habits and histopathological type. Results: Out of total 60 cases that were included in study, biopsy report of 5 cases came to positive of malignancy. Conclusions: The incidence of malignancy in gastric/antral perforation was found to be 8% in our study which shows a decline in this region as compared to incidence in the world.

Ulcer is a common gastrointestinal disorder which is seen among many people. It is basically an inflamed break in the skin or the mucus membrane lining the alimentary tract. Ulceration occurs when there is a disturbance of the normal equilibrium caused by either enhanced aggression or diminished mucosal resistance. It may be due to the regular usage of drugs, irregular food habits, stress, and so forth. Peptic ulcers are a broad term that includes ulcers of digestive tract in the stomach or the duodenum. The formation of peptic ulcers depends on the presence of acid and peptic activity in gastric juice plus a breakdown in mucosal defenses. A number of synthetic drugs are available to treat ulcers. But these drugs are expensive and are likely to produce more side effects when compared to herbal medicines. The literature revealed that many medicinal plants and polyherbal formulations are used for the treatment of ulcer by various ayurvedic doctors and traditional medicinal practitioners. The ideal aims of treatment of peptic ulcer disease are to relieve pain, heal the ulcer, and delay ulcer recurrence. In this review attempts have been made to know about some medicinal plants which may be used in ayurvedic as well as modern science for the treatment or prevention of peptic ulcer.

The review presents an analysis of the literature on the etiology and pathophysiology of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcerin women. Data on the prevalence of these diseases in the world and in Russia are presented. The main points in the formationof the doctrine of peptic ulcer disease are described and the article discusses in detail the theory of sexual diff erentiation -the infl uence of age, menstruation, pregnancy, lactation, menopause on ulceration. Views on the key mechanisms of the eff ect of sex hormones on the gastrointestinal tract are revealed.
