Research about “Anecdote about Authority and Mentality in Cerkak “Kursi” and “Ledhek” by Krishna Miharja” tries to reveal the dialectic between individuals and their social cultural world through the main character, Den Lurah and Ledhek Kuning in obtaining and running their social functions. The research aims to explain dialectic between those main caharacters and their social cultural through three simultant moments, externalization, objectivation, and internalization in the frame of sociology of knowledge by Peter Berger. The discussuin is conducted by reading to those two cerkaks (Javanese short stories) through characterization, setting, and plot, then by finding functional typifications to be expressed as dialectic expression in moments of externalization, objectivation, and internalization between the main characters and their social cultural worlds. The result shows that those two main characters do not interact properly in the moment of externalization, objectivation, and internalization with their social cultural worlds. It then impacts their carreer to tragic ending.

Abstract: This study aims to look at narrative patterns in the collection of short stories "Karaban Snow Dance" (TSK). From the fifteen short stories, the researchers took five main stories, namely the Karaban Snow Dance (Tarian Salju Karaban), The Fall of a Leaf (Gugurnya Sehelai Daun),  Canting Kinanti Song (Tembang Canting Kinanti), Jagoan Men Arrived (Lelaki Jagoan Tiba), and Origami Pigeon (Merpati Origami). Of the five short stories, environmental themes and honesty appear most often. The place setting depicted shows the environment that is close to the author or according to the author's origin. The main characters in the four short stories are children, only one short story Male Hero Tiban (Lelaki Jagoan Tiban/LJK) who uses adult takoh as the main character. The child leaders in LJK only appear in the past stories of the main characters. The five short stories do not show a picture of whole parents (father and mother). The warm relationship between mother and child appears clearly, in contrast to the father-child relationship that is almost negligent. The five short stories also represent how children become heroes for their family, friends, and environment.

Isaac Babel’s essay «The Finns» dealing with the Civil war in Finland was published in 1918. In his essay, the writer strongly emphasizes the similarity between the Finns and the nomads of Asia, the ancient Turks. This unexpected juxtaposition indicates Babel’s familiarity with the books and biography of the Hungarian orientalist, traveler and linguist Armin Vambery. Comparison between the Russian translation of Vambery’s autobiography «My life» and Babel’s pseudo-autobiographical short stories about childhood («Story of My Dovecote», «First Love», «In the Basement», «Awakening») shows that Vambery was the prototype of the protagonist of the famous short stories.

This thesis is intended to delve into the one-and-a-half generation of Cuban-American’s bicultural identity in Virgil Suarez’s novel Going Under. Through an interpretation from the perspective of diaspora consciousness, this paper will identify how the main character constructs his individual identity through a network of usually competitive and incompatible elements like language, culture, religion, political ideologies and so on. Xavier Cuevas, the protagonist in this novel, maintains an unstable relationship with the American culture which he believes he has been wholly assimilated. The tension and anxiety lead him to “go under” and search for roots to return to the moment before exile.

Before delving into gravitational waves, I illustrate, with nine short stories, the fascinating history of gravity, shedding light on the actual lives and contributions of leading scientists and astronomers, from Tycho Brahe’s adventurous life and grotesque death, to Johannes Kepler’s intuitions and passionate prose. And from Newton’s resolution to cut the Gordian knot of the origin of gravity with his theory of universal gravitation, to Einstein’s heroic struggle to derive the equations of general relativity. Gravity is the weakest of the fundamental forces in nature, yet it subjugates us from the moment we are born. After nine months floating in the womb, suspended in the enveloping heat of the amniotic fluid, we are suddenly confronted with the gravitational pull of our planet. Gravity thus manifests itself as weight, and forces our helpless bodies to the ground, establishing a universal and defining aspect of the human condition.

f on a winter's night a traveler is considered one of the greatest novels by Italian writer Italo Calvino. Published in 1979, this literary work, which belongs to the postmodernist narrative style in the form of a frame story, tells about a reader trying to read a book with the same title from beginning to end. Much of the story’s content was written in the second-person’s narration, implying that “you” (the Reader) are the protagonist of the novel. Embedded inside are ten short stories (the loose ends of different novels) read by the main character, which causes the book to constantly switch between settings, narrators, and styles. If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler is truly a perfect illustration for the literary style characterized by metafiction and postmodernism. The novel is a conscious textual play with various techniques employed such as authorial role limitation, reader involvement in the plot line, open structure, non-linearity, fragmentation, multiplicity, and intertextuality. By effectively using these devices, Calvino deconstructs the traditional novel form and creates a new structure which shows a parallel between the processes of writing and reading a text. Calvino acts as the supreme game-master taking control of both the characters and the real players, who have been pushed into this game-like novel. This article focuses on analyzing the charactericstics of metafiction, the Droste effect and deconstruction in Calvino’s novel If on a winter's night a traveler, thereby helping to grasp his playful language and his narrative techniques as well as to discover his metafictional discourse.

In this article we explore "E. T. A. Hoffmann’s complex", which includes real and imaginary worlds, the problem of the mechanisation of life and society, the duality, the romantic irony and grotesque in the series of short stories "Earth Axis" by Valery Bryusov. Following E. T. A. Hoffmann’s tradition, Velery Bryusov creates a special type of romantic the dual world based on the principle of mirror reflection of the real world. The dominance of the unreal world leads to the absorption of the main character. The problem of mechanisation of a life and a man in the series is manifested in the tendency of loss of spirituality in society and an attempt to fill the spiritual emptiness with "inanimate" objects ("Flat", "Defence"). Valery Bryusov creates a grotesque picture of a society ("Earth", "Rise of the Machines"), where the living changes are replaced by the nonliving (machines). Romantic irony and grotesque, which are destructive, become a stylistic device in the work of Valery Bryusov.

The aim of the paper is to introduce or rather (re)present The Witcher as a model-like pop cultural phenomenon illustrating the mechanisms within the framework of which a local hero, the main character of fantasy narratives written by Andrzej Sapkowski, transforms into a global hero. The Witcher — the character as well as the trademark, or rather brand — represents popular culture pars pro toto and emblematically a pop cultural artefact, undergoing a transformation on an axis from short stories to a novel saga, becoming an object of local cinematic and television-based adaptation and also a thematic basis for a successful digital-game series distributed globally, as well as recently a source of a high-budget television series designed for a global television market.

Language expressions in Javanese culture that contain a warning to someone at the moment and will do an activity or work are often formulated with the word structure: yitna yuwana lena kena. The idea in the phrase is usually related to ethical values (moral philosophy) how one must be careful in speaking, behaving, and acting so that someone gets the safety of life in the world. Conversely, if someone is not careful in speaking, acting, and acting undoubtedly will get problems in his life. Ethical values in this novel relate to moral teachings to a woman so that she always has virtues, such as carrying herself well, must be able to hold back the passions, predict and consider things that are and will be faced, which are good and not good, and not permitted excessive behavior. Objective approach, qualitative descriptive research method and Javanese ethical theoretical conceptual framework from Franz Magnis Suseno is used to examine the text in the yitna yuwana lena kena language expression in the Gogroke Reroncen Kembang Garing’s novel. An ethical conceptual framework is used to assess the karma experienced by the main character. The assumption in this study says that the words, attitudes, and actions of someone who is careless and despicable will have an impact on suffering and misery.
