Effect of Plyometric Training on Strength Endurance of Male Hostel Students

The purpose of the present study was to find out the effect of plyometric training on strength endurance of young male hostel students. To achieve the purpose twenty (n = 20) young male students were selected as subjects and their age ranged between 18 and 25 years. They were divided into two equal groups, each group consisted of ten (n = 10) subjects. The group I underwent plyometric training (PTG), and group II acted as a control (CG) who did not exposed any special training apart from their regular activities. The training period for this study was limited to five days in a week for eight weeks. Abdominal strength endurance was selected as a criterion variable of this study and it was measured by using bent knee sit-ups. The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was applied as a statistical tool. In all cases 0.05 level of confidence was fixed to test the significance, which was considered as an appropriate. It was concluded from the result of the study that there was a significant improvement (p ≤ 0.05) due to plyometric training on abdominal strength endurance as compared to control group.

The purpose of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of Plyometric Training (PT) and Resistance Training (RT) for improving speed ability of the Athletes. Total thirty six (N = 36) district level athletes were randomly selected. All the subjects were divided into three equal groups: i) Resistance Training Group (RTG) as Experimental Group-I, ii) Plyometric Training Group (PTG) as Experimental Group-II and iii) Control Group (CG). Experimental group-I underwent resistance training whereas experimental group-II underwent plyometric training for eight weeks. But the control group did not involve in any of the above treatments. In the present study speed ability was measured through 60 yard dash. To draw the statistical inference analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used followed by Tukey’s LSD test as post hoc test. Both RTG and PTG improved significantly with respect to the CG in speed ability. Significant difference was also observed between RTG and PTG in speed ability. It was also confirmed that the PTG improved better than the RTG in speed ability. From the above findings it can be concluded that PT is more effective training means than RT to improve the speed ability of the athlete.

The primary objective of this study was to design a digging agility system that was used to analyze the effectiveness of 6 weeks of plyometric training on volleyball players. A total of 24 highly trained college male volleyball players were recruited for this study. The players were equally divided into a plyometric training group and a control group. The agility T-test, peak power output test, 10-meter sprint, and digging agility test were used to examine the effects of plyometric training on the digging agility of volleyball players. One-way analysis of covariance was conducted to examine the differences in the variables between groups. The results reveal that after 6 weeks of plyometric training, the plyometric training group had significant improvements on the agility T-test, digging agility test, and peak power output tests, with statistical power values all greater than 90%. The plyometric training group significantly improved by 2.68% on the agility T-test, 2.35% on the digging agility test, and 7.32% on the peak power output test. The results indicated that appropriate plyometric training can enhance the agility of lateral movements and peak output of vertical jumps, as well as enable players to rapidly complete movements during a moving defense.

The purpose of the study was to investigation the effect of continuous running on endurance of men kabaddi players. To achieve the purpose of this study, thirty men kabaddi players selected from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Annamalai University, Tamilnadu, India.  The age, height and weight of the subjects ranged from 19 to 21 years, 155 to 169 centimetres and 58 to 68 kilograms respectively. They were divided into two groups; each group consisted of fifteen subjects. Group-I underwent continuous running and group-II acted as control who does not participate in any training programme. The data collected from the two groups prior to and post experimentation were statistically analyzed by analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The experimental group had significant improvement on endurance when comparing to the control group.

Abstract. Experimental material consisted of one-day Pharaoh quail chicks, which were separated into three experimental groups. The birds of group I received a fodder, the nutritive value of which was consistent with recommended feeding standards for growing quails, whereas for those of group II and III the protein level was lowered in all feed mixes appropriated for the whole rearing period. During the experiment, individual body weight, feed consumption, and bird deaths and their health culling were controlled. At the age of 42 days, 11 males of each group, with a body weight similar to the group mean, were slaughtered. In blood samples collected, the level of amylase was assayed, as well as quail slaughter value was calculated and depot fat and extramuscular fat contents were determined. Meat chemical determinations were made (dry matter, protein and fat contents), as well as physicochemical (pH, colour, water binding capacity) and sensory ones (cooked meat and bouillon). Basing on the performed examination, it was found that a lowered level of protein in fodder did not affect quail body weight, slaughter yield, or breast part and leg participation in body weight. Carcass fatness decreased and meat water binding capacity improved. The values of majority of other examined meat qualitative traits were similar to those obtained in control group.

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of plyometric training on sprint abilities. Young basketball players (N=33, Age=15-16) from OKK "Stari Ras" and OKK "Novi Pazar" from Novi Pazar were divided into two groups: an experimental group (EG, n=16; BH=185.45±8.75cm; BM=76.87±11.51kg) with training experience (TE=4.69 ±1.40 years) and a control group (CG; n=17; BH=184.16±6.93cm; BM=76.87±11.51kg) with training experience (TE=5.53±3.18 years). The EG was made up of the players from basketball team OKK "Stari Ras", who in addition to basketball trainings also took part in plyometric training. The CG was made up of the players from basketball team OKK "Novi Pazar", who at that time only took part in basketball trainings. To assess their sprint abilities, three tests were used: Sprint Speed at 5m (S5m), Sprint Speed at 10m (S10m), Sprint Speed at 20m (S20m). The measurement was done with the help of the photocells "Microgate", a parameter which was monitored and the processed time was read in 1/100s. The experimental program lasted for 10 weeks (2x per week). To determine the effect of plyometric training on the sprint abilities of young basketball players, the analysis of covariance ANCOVA was used. The results showed that the EG group achieved significantly greater progress than the CG group on the tests: S5m and S20m. There was no difference between the EG and CG group on the S10m test. Based on these results we concluded that plyometric training has positive effects on the development of sprint abilities in young basketball players.

DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/1980-0037.2016v18n3p341 The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of tapering on maximum aerobic power (VO2max) in young male indoor soccer athletes. Participants were 78 athletes aged 12-17 years randomly divided into experimental (EG) and control group (CG). Both groups did the same training planning until the last three weeks (tapering phase). Only EG performed tapering. Tapering lasted three weeks adopting the linear tapering method. VO2max was estimated by Yo-Yo intermittent Recovery Level 1 early in the season and in the last week of each. Univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was conducted for repeated measures to compare VO2max among groups according to mesocycle. The results presented effect of time (F (4.74)= 42.02, p = 0.01) and group (F (2.76) = 35.87, p = 0.01). Overall, the findings of this study suggest that the implementation of the tapering strategy in the last weeks of training is more efficient to improve VO2max than the constant maintenance of loads.

Context:Land and aquatic plyometrics have clinical relevance for exercise, sport performance, and rehabilitation, yet study is limited comparing both.Objective:To compare the effects of land-based and aquatic-based plyometric-training programs on performance variables, muscle soreness, and range of motion (ROM).Setting:Aquatic facility and biomechanics laboratory.Subjects:Forty subjects randomly assigned to 3 groups: land (n = 13), water (n = 13), and control (n = 14).Main Outcome Measures:Performance variables, muscle soreness, and ROM were measured before and after an 8-week training period. An analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and a Bonferroni post hoc test determined significance.Results:ANCOVA revealed significant differences between groups with respect to plantar-flexion ROM (P< .05). Pairedttest determined that the aquatic group significantly increased muscle power pretest to posttest (P< .05).Conclusions:Results indicate that aquatic plyometric training can be an alternative approach to enhancing performance.

The study was undertaken to find out the effect of simplified Kundalini yoga and pranayama on academic performance and selected psychological variables among school boys on aggression. To achieve the purpose of the study 45 students studying various Higher Secondary Schools, at Erode District were selected as subjects. The age of the subjects ranged from 14 to 16 years. The subjects were divided into three groups of fifteen each (n=15) randomly. Experimental Group I underwent simplified Kundalini yoga, Experimental Group II underwent Pranayama and Group III is Control group were kept under active rest.The training period is for three days per week for eight weeks in addition to school curriculum.All the subjects were tested on selected criterion variables prior and immediately after the training period. The result of the study that there is a significant difference in the adjusted post-test means of simplified Kundalini yoga group and pranayama practise group and control group it was identified that simplified yoga group is better than pranayama group and control group in improving explosive strength.

The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of twenty four week Football training on flexibility, agility and endurance of Junior School boys. The study was conducted on thirty (N=30) Football players who were randomly selected from various Schools in Tamil Nadu, India during 2017-2018.The age of the subjects were ranged between 14 to 16. The selected players was assigned in to two groups of fifteen each (n=15), Group –I underwent Football training, and Group –II acted as Control. Flexibility, Agility and Endurance were selected as dependent variables. Flexibility was assessed by Sit & Reach test, Agility was assessed by 4×10 m Shuttle Run and Cardio Respiratory Endurance was assessed by Cooper’s 12 Minutes Run/Walk test. The experimental group underwent the training for 24 weeks. All the subjects were tested prior to and immediately after the training period of twenty four weeks for all the selected variables. The data collected data from the three groups prior to and immediately after the training programme on the selected criterion variables were statistically analyzed with Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). In all the cases 0.05 level of confidence was fixed to test the hypotheses. Flexibility, Agility and Endurance showed significant difference between the groups. Football training group showed better performance than Control group.

The purpose of the present study was to find out the effect of yoga practice on learning behaviour and assertiveness among school children of Tamilnadu. For this purpose, ninety male adolescents studying in socially backward region of Tamilnadu, with the age group of 15 to 17 years who were studying in Nandanar Boys Higher Secondary School, Chidambaram (Cuddalore District), Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Vallalapatty, Madurai (Madurai District) and Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Thiruvannamalai (Thiruvannamalai District), were chosen as subjects. They were divided into two equal groups, each group consisted of forty-five subjects, in which experimental group - I underwent yoga practice and experimental group - II acted as control that did not participate in any special activities apart from their regular curricular activities. The training period for the study was five days (Monday to Friday) a week for twelve weeks. Prior to and after the experimental period, the subjects were tested on learning behaviour and assertiveness. Learning behavior was surveyed by the Jegadheesh Srivastava learning behaviour Questionnaire and Assertiveness was surveyed by Rathu’s Assertiveness inventory. The Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was applied to find out any significant difference between the experimental groups and control group on selected criterion variables. The result of the study shows that the yoga practice group was significantly improved the learning behaviour and assertiveness when compared with the control group.
