From early in life, children help, comfort, and share with other people. Recent research has deepened scientific understanding of the development of prosociality—efforts to promote the welfare of others. In this article, we discuss two key insights about the emergence and early development of prosocial behavior, focusing on the development of helping. First, children’s motivations and capabilities for helping change in quality as well as quantity over the opening years of life. Specifically, helping begins in participatory activities without prosocial intent in the first year of life, becoming increasingly autonomous and motivated by prosocial intent over the second year. Second, helping emerges through bidirectional social interactions starting at birth: Caregivers and other individuals support the development of helping in a variety of ways, and young children play active roles that often influence caregiver behavior. The question now is not whether but how social interactions contribute to the development of prosocial behavior. Recent methodological and theoretical advances provide exciting avenues for future research on the social and emotional origins of human prosociality.

The students in the vocational education of architecture design in Taiwan often face many learning obstacles, such as no problem solving ability and lack of creativity. Therefore, this study used a social learning model as a learning strategy in the architecture design learning process to solve related learning difficulties. Firstly, this study used cognitive development teaching activities and a learning process based on analogical thinking and analogical reasoning to build the social learning model. Secondly, the social learning model of this study was implemented in the teaching of a required course of architecture design for 120 freshmen in China University of Technology. The questionnaire survey results were then statically analyzed and compared to measure the differences in the students’ knowledge about architecture designs before and after the teaching in this study. In this study, the social learning model is proven helpful in inspiring the students’ creativity by converting new knowledge of architecture design into schemas and hence retaining the new knowledge for future application. The social learning model can be applied in the teaching of architecture design in other schools, while more research can be conducted in the future to further confirm its feasibility to promote effective learning.

This study aims to determine the predictive factors for effective teaching in blended learning contexts. A Blended Learning Evaluation Scale was devised. The participants were 145 first-year students studying for education degrees using a blended learning model. An exploratory factorial analysis revealed five factors for establishing a good model of blended teaching and learning: student expectations on their learning subjects, the use of web 2.0 tools, feedback from teachers, collaborative work among fellow classmates, and the social relations among students themselves and with their professors.

College students face a myriad of pressures and challenges in the academic environment as they seek to maintain optimal performance or even to remain in the academic program. In 2002, it was reported that more than 30% of first-year students did not return for their second year of college (Smith), and only 40% are reported to actually compete their degree and graduate (Newby, 2002). This information suggests that either due to problems with integration or other difficulties encountered in the social or academic culture of the institution, a significant proportion of college students fail to attain an acceptable level of academic achievement and ultimately withdraw (Pascarella & Terenzini, 1991). The better we understand the factors that contribute to academic success, the greater the potential for positive and timely intervention to

AbstractLegal manuscripts excavated from tombs serve as important materials for research on Qin and Han laws. These manuscripts differ from received legal texts or law documents found at archaeological sites in nature and function, as they were stored as funeral texts in tombs. This article studies theErnian lülingmanuscript in terms of its nature and function. It argues that the manuscript compiled in the second year of Empress Lü (186bce) nearing the death of the owner was not produced for official use but specifically for burial in the tomb. This article further proposes that the burial of theErnian lülingmanuscript may have taken place to illustrate the social status and official capabilities of the owner to the underworld. The investigation of theErnian lülingmanuscript in its archaeological context helps us achieve a stronger understanding of the dating, origins, completeness, and compilation of its text.

The learning model used by teachers does not vary, resulting in the activeness and independence of students in learning is reduced. Therefore, a new learning model needs to be developed that stimulate the activeness and independence of students, namely the discussion learning model and personal investigation. This research used a Research and Development (R&D) approach. Researchers were focused on developing discussion learning models and personal investigations to be able developing a new learning model that can be applied in learning with clear steps according to scientific rules. The results of research were as follows: (1) students were more active in learning, (2) students no longer rely on friends when there are assignments or discussions, (3) problems that occur in learning can be analyzed by students easily, (4) Models could help foster a sense of responsibility in each student, especially responsibilities as a group member, (5) the learning process in the class was more enjoyable. Based on the analysis of research results and discussions, it can be concluded that the development of discussion learning models and personal investigations that have been implemented in sociology learning has a positive impact both for students and teachers. Students were more active in learning, and students were more independent and better identify social problems. The discussion learning model and personal investigation are appropriately applied in sociology learning in the classroom.
