Youth is a valuable asset to the nation to realize the objective of becoming a developed nation. However, what is happening in the globalization era nowadays is the involvement of youths, including those in higher educations, in the behaviors that deviate from Eastern values and principles of Islam, despite the fact that they have been through the process of formal religious education in schools. This begs the question: What are the moral problems of youths in institutions of higher education? Their risky behaviors seem to indicate that school education alone is not sufficient to to form good morals in youths, and Islam can alternatively be made a way of life. Therefore, this article explores the concept of youths and Islamic morality, moral problems of youths in institutions of higher education, and how to overcome them. In the context of Malaysia as a nation-state, the development of youths’ moral to be a perfect human and who can maintain a balanced in the intellectual and spiritual aspects is a lifelong process in education and should be addressed in line with the development and progress of the nation-state. KEY WORD: Youths; Morality; Higher Education Institution; Globalization; Informal Education.  About the Authors: Rohana Tan ialah Pelajar Master Sains Pendidikan Pengembangan di Jabatan Pemajuan Profesional dan Pendidikan Lanjutan, Fakulti Pengajian Pendidikan UPM (Universiti Putra Malaysia). The purpose of this paper is to consider the following two notions; (1) that the use of ‘informal education pedagogies’ within teaching and learning in the ‘academy’ can both support the learning process within the ‘classroom’ but also transcend to society via students; and (2) that synergies exist between informal education and social pedagogical concepts. The discussions are situated from the perspective of an experienced practitioner and academic who is currently teaching youth related degree courses within a Higher Education Institution. This experiential learning has informed knowledge acquisition, understanding and skills application from professional practice to the teaching environment. An experiential learning perspective will be the primary method adopted; the value of this paper lies in its potential to re-affirm that degree courses which embed a ‘practice the practice’ approach in their teaching methodology support the embedding of core values of the said discipline. The paper argues that the ethically value-based principles and practice of informal education pedagogy, and social pedagogy, are relevant for the current and post COVID-19 pandemic environment.

Satisfaction of students of higher educational institutions with their professional activities in todays reality is one of the key indicators which diagnoses the quality of specialists training and efficiency of professional competence development. Satisfaction assumes personal students inclusion in educational process which is inseparably linked with the personality relation to the quality of these or those objects, to living conditions and activity as well as to himself or herself. The assessment is the most important element of the emotional sphere of the person, emotions stimulate motivation to activity. We understand the integrated characteristic including motivational and emotional spheres of the personality as satisfaction. This estimated relations between trainers according to the activity which they carry out, its results and implementation conditions. Vocational training of cadets is carried out in specific conditions of their stay in barracks on the territory of departmental higher education institution. In the integrated characteristic of satisfaction of trainees vocational training included three criteria: satisfaction with the educational process; satisfaction with extracurricular activities; relationship satisfaction. The first criterion contains satisfaction: 1) organization of educational process; 2) level of teachers professionalism; 3) quality of teaching. We put satisfaction indicators into the second criterion: 1) organization of work of circles, sections and clubs; 2) organization of sports and mass actions; 3) organization of events which help to develop professional competence of a future officer of Penitentiary system. The third criterion assumes satisfaction with relations with teachers, with collective and the direct management. Questioning of the 2nd and the 5th year cadets of Samara Law Institute of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia showed that by the 5th course the positive tendency in a satisfaction assessment is found with vocational training. The criterion satisfaction with extracurricular activities needs a separate additional analysis, as by the 5th course the amount of students satisfied with circles, sections and clubs is less than a third of a total number of the course students. By the third criterion some complexity in relationship with the direct management (with commanders of front divisions) is found out and it also should become a subject of special additional consideration.

AbstractThe radiation therapist (RTT) is a practitioner who must learn to take responsibility as an autonomous professional within a collaborative multi-professional team. A case study of international students on fellowship studies to a South African Higher Education Institution was used as the lens to explore the development of professional expertise in RTTs. Documents and semi-structured interviews generated textual data that was semantically analysed. The findings are presented as a discussion of the themes that emerged from the text data; (1) autonomy in a team, (2) collaboration facilitates learning, (3) the need for professional competence, (4) reflective practice and (5) participatory learning. The paper offers the interpretation of professional competence as a practitioner who has applicable knowledge, clinical and generic competence as well as appropriate behaviour and attitudes. It is proposed that a collaborative, integrated curriculum meets the need for the education of RTTs on the African continent. In such an environment optimised learning is facilitated by access to good clinical role models, the development of skills toward reflective practice and student participation in the learning environment.

Background/Aims The attitudes toward suicidal behaviour and related factors are still not understood and may influence the quality of assistance. The attitudes of nursing students regarding suicide and associated factors was investigated in this study. Methods A cross-sectional study was carried out with 351 nursing students in a Portuguese higher education institution. Data were collected in 2017–2018, using a self-administered sociodemographic questionnaire and the Suicide Behaviour Attitude Questionnaire. Statistical analyses included Mann–Whitney's U-test, Student's t-test and Spearman's correlation. Results The students had more educational exposure to suicide during the undergraduate course than in extracurricular activities or interpersonal contact. Students nearing the end of the course and older students had more positive attitudes and greater perception of their professional competence. Negative attitudes were associated with condemnatory attitudes and a lower self-perception of professional competence. Condemnatory attitudes were associated with participation in scientific events. Suicidal thoughts were associated with reading about suicide and not attending a class about this subject. Conclusions This study promotes knowledge that may support future investigations and interventions regarding provisional education and support to nursing students.
