Due to physical and mental disability, children tend to withdraw themselves from society especially if their parents abandon them, and if society fail to establish a suitable relationship with these children, their presence will uproot from society. In this paper, we deals with the case Rofaydeh Welfare Services Complex in Iran in the he city of Tehran where 60 disabled, mentally or physically disabled children are taken care of, some of them were also orphans. The aim of the article is to provide an environment which is conducive to more relationship and interaction of these children with members of society with regard to their lack of caretaker and family, as well as protecting the primacy of the children's living spaces as their home.

The research methodology included library and field methods; thus, suitable strategies were developed to achieve the goal of this paper. The research indicates that designing the complex as a house in the middle of the neighborhood park allows for children's presence in the society among the people and close interaction with people through being positioned in a neighborhood park, as well as providing the presence of the children in a space similar to a house which is every child's wish. On neighborhood scale, the park protects the children from social damages so that they feel sense of intimacy working between them and people.

Although the importance of occupational burnout for sleep has long been recognized, it is largely examined as an individual phenomenon. Because a majority of adults in the U.S. share the bedroom with their partner, the current study examines the role of occupational burnout in understanding the link between self-control and sleep disturbance in close relationships. Data from 96 married couples were analyzed using the actor–partner interdependence mediation model. Both husbands’ and wives’ self-control (predictor) were linked to their levels of occupational burnout (mediator), and to husbands’ sleep disturbance (outcome) through husbands’ occupational burnout. Neither husbands’ or wives’ self-control nor occupational burnout scores related to wives’ sleep disturbance. Findings from the current study identify burnout management in husbands as a potential nonpharmacological alternative approach to treating sleep disorders and emphasizes the need to examine predictors of sleep in a relational context.

ABSTRACT Aim The aim of this study is to assess the periodontal health status and its determinants among a group of mentally disabled children in Khartoum State and to compare it with a control group of children of normal intelligence. Methods Thirty seven mentally disabled children aged 8-10 years were examined at five centres of mentally disabled children in Khartoum State. A control group with normal intelligence quotient of a similar age and socioeconomic status was selected from schools nearby the centres visited. Both mentally disabled children and the children in the control group were examined for their plaque index, gingival index and periodontal pocket depth. A comparison was made between the mentally disabled children and the healthy children as well as between the subgroups of the mentally disabled children (mild, moderate, and severe). Questionnaires concerning the degree of mental disability, level of parent education, role of parents toward child oral health, were also used. Results The results revealed that the mentally disabled children showed higher scores of plaque and gingival index (1.9, 1.7 respectively) when compared with the plaque and gingival index of the control group (0.6, 0.6 respectively). No increase in gingival sulcus depth in both study and control group was found. According to the degree of mental disability there was statistically significant difference in plaque and gingival index among the mild, moderate and severe subgroups (P=0.001), the plaque and gingival index tend to increase with the severity of mental retardation. Conclusion. Mentally disabled children showed more plaque when compared with healthy controls. Periodontal disease was more prevalent among mentally disabled children as presented in the form of gingivitis and the degree of severity depends on the degree of mental disability.

Abstract Self-control underlies cognitive abilities such as decision making and future planning. Delay of gratification is a measure of self-control and involves obtaining a more valuable outcome in the future by tolerating a delay or investing a greater effort in the present. Contextual issues, such as reward visibility and type, may influence delayed gratification performance, although there has been limited comparative investigation between humans and other animals, particularly non-primate species. Here, we adapted an automated ‘rotating tray’ paradigm used previously with capuchin monkeys to test for delay of gratification ability that requires little pre-test training, where the subject must forgo an immediate, less preferred reward for a delayed, more preferred one. We tested New Caledonian crows and 3–5-year-old human children. We manipulated reward types to differ in quality or quantity (Experiments 1 and 2) as well as visibility (Experiment 2). In Experiments 1 and 2, both species performed better when the rewards varied in quality as opposed to quantity, though performed above chance in both conditions. In Experiment 1, both crows and children were able to delay gratification when both rewards were visible. In Experiment 2, 5-year-old children outperformed 3- and 4-year olds, though overall children still performed well, while the crows struggled when reward visibility was manipulated, a result which may relate to difficulties in tracking the experimenters’ hands during baiting. We discuss these findings in relation to the role of contextual issues on self-control when making species comparisons and investigating the mechanisms of self-control.

In an effort to improve the progress of the Indonesian nation, it is necessary to pay attention to all levels of society, especially the young people who will be the pillars of the Indonesian nation in the future. One fourth of Indonesia's population is children and adolescents. Other studies have shown that parenting can influence a child's level of self-confidence, academic performance, and children's behavior. This research was to examine the "Role of Parents’ Parenting towards Urban Adolescents’ Quality of Life". A quantitative method with non-experimental was used and attended by 381 State High School students (SMAN), ages of 14-19 years in schools of X and Y in X city, namely 234 girls and 147 boys. Measuring instruments used are Youth Quality of Life (YQOL) and parenting measuring instruments that have been adapted. Based on the results of different tests on parenting parents with One-way Anova obtained values of F = 10,203, p = .000 <.05 for mothers’ parenting, and F = 6,146, p = .000 <.05 for fathers’ parenting, so there are significant differences between quality of life with parenting styles. The results showed that "authoritative" parenting has a high quality of life, where parents encourage, also provide limits, adolescents become independent individuals. Meanwhile, “neglectful” parenting has a low quality of life, lacks involvement in the lives of children, adolescents do not become independent individuals, less competent in socializing and lack of self-control.
