Goal 6 of the SDGs has a target for clean water and sanitation, by 2030 the UN has a target of providing universal access to sanitation. Safely managed sanitation can support the progress to supporting socioeconomic development and promoting equality. In developing countries, a majority of the general population does not have access to proper sanitation. Therefore, there are still many challenges faced for sanitation in developing country. Unmanaged sanitation has a negative impact to human health and the environment. In developing countries that has a lot of under developed and rural area, community-based sanitation program is one of the approach for educating and improving sanitation. This study has an objective to evaluate the current implementation of community-based sanitation programs in Indonesia. This study is a literature review that analyzed various sources in a systematical way to evaluate the implementation of community based sanitation programs in Indonesia. In conclusion, the implementation of community based sanitation programs yield a positive impact for the targeted community. The factors that has influence are community involvement, funding and enforcement of sanctions.

Abstract. The challenges China faces in terms of water availability in the agricultural sector are exacerbated by the sector's low irrigation efficiency. To increase irrigation efficiency, promoting modern irrigation technology has been emphasized by policy makers in the country. The overall goal of this paper is to understand the effect of governmental support and economic incentives on the adoption of modern irrigation technology in China, with a focus on household-based irrigation technology and community-based irrigation technology. Based on a unique data set collected at household and village levels from seven provinces, the results indicated that household-based irrigation technology has become noticeable in almost every Chinese village. In contrast, only about half of Chinese villages have adopted community-based irrigation technology. Despite the relatively high adoption level of household-based irrigation technology at the village level, its actual adoption in crop sown areas was not high, even lower for community-based irrigation technology. The econometric analysis results revealed that governmental support instruments like subsidies and extension services policies have played an important role in promoting the adoption of modern irrigation technology. Strikingly, the present irrigation pricing policy has played a significant but contradictory role in promoting the adoption of different types of modern irrigation technology. Irrigation pricing showed a positive impact on household-based irrigation technology, and a negative impact on community-based irrigation technology, possibly related to the substitution effect that is, the higher rate of adoption of household-based irrigation technology leads to lower incentives for investment in community-based irrigation technology. The paper finally concludes and discusses some policy implications.

Exertions to accelerate development carried out by developing countries in general are oriented towards improving or improving people’s lives. Developing countries are characterized as countries that lack capital, savings and investment. The role of Labor has a significant effect but has a negative impact on economic growth. Agriculture and Service also performance a significant role, despite having a positive impact on economic growth. While other variables, namely Fixed Capital Formation, Foreign Direct Investment, Export, Manufacture, and Fertility showed insignificant results on economic growth.

The major objective of this research is to examine the relationship between poverty, income inequality and economic growth from some selected developing countries. This study uses panel data for the period of 2002-2015. All the data is taken from world development indicators (WDI). To find out the results, we have used Hausman test an econometrics technique for panel data in this research. The results of the study indicate that poverty and income inequality have a negative impact on economic growth on the other hand Gross capital formation, labor force, total population and government consumption and expenditure have a positive impact on economic growth. The result tells us that changes in these variables have a significant and positive effect on the dependent variable. To achieve the goal of economic growth developing countries should reduce poverty and take meaningful steps to overcome the problem of inequality in the society which can be very helpful in achieving the goal of economic growth.

This paper analyzes a range of host country characteristics that determine foreign direct investment (FDI) flows to developing countries, using panel data on 72 countries for the period 1970-2008. Keeping in view the endogeneity problem of the chosen host country’s characteristics, the model is estimated using the General Method of Moments (GMM) technique. The analysis shows that gross domestic product (GDP), economic growth, and per capita income positively affect FDI—a result consistent with the market-seeking behavior of multinational corporations (MNCs). Furthermore, we find that remittances have a significant and positive impact on FDI. On the other hand, inflation and the balance of payments deficit have negative effects on FDI. MNCs are attracted to host countries that are outward looking and follow trade-promoting policies. This is confirmed by the positive effect of openness on FDI flows to developing countries. The study also finds that the effect of military expenditures on FDI is negative and significant. Finally, our analysis finds that the real exchange rate has a significantly negative impact on FDI.

Abstract: Clean water as a primary need of human which is generally used for drinking, bathing, cooking and washing should be met in terms of quantity, quality, and affordability and sustainability. The government through the national development program of water and sanitation universal access which declared that by 2019, Indonesia will achieve the 100% target of proper clean water and sanitation for the whole Indonesian people. Water supply and Sanitation community-based Program (PAMSIMAS) is one of the prominent programs of the central government that adopt a community-based approach, where the main actors are the society as well as the person in charge to implement the project. PAMSIMAS II was launched in Aceh since January 2013 to April 2016 in which thre e districts joined PAMSIMAS are Aceh Besar, Pidie and Bireuen, with a total number of villages of the program as 46. The study conducted in the District of Aceh Besar with selected 15 (fifteen) villages as research object. This study aims to identify the level of success of PAMSIMAS II and identified community participation in managing water and sanitation infrastructure that has been built by the program. Those things were measured by the factors namely: 1. Adequacy, quality and continuity of water, also 2. Performance of BPSPAM as management body in village.  This study adopt quantitative analysis that supported by qualitative analysis. Data were collected by observation, questionnaires and interviews. At the end the SWOT analysis is performed for the formulation of a strategic planning in or order to make PAMSIMAS sustainable in achieving access of clean water. The result of this research is information about th position of The PAMSIMAS II after the calculation of EFAS and IFAS which conducted based on the questionair that deliver to the actors of PAMSIMAS II in district of Aceh Besar and also recomendation about priority strategy should be conducted for the development of PAMSIMAS II in the future. Abstrak: Air Bersih sebagai kebutuhan utama dalam kehidupan manusia yang umumnya digunakan untuk minum, mandi, memasak dan mencuci sudah seharusnya terpenuhi secara kuantitas, kualitas, terjangkau dan kontinu. Pemerintah melalui program pembangunan nasional akses universal air minum dan sanitasi menetapkan bahwa pada tahun 2019, Indonesia dapat mencapai 100 % target layanan air minum dan sanitasi yang layak. Program Penyediaan Air Minum dan Sanitasi Berbasis Masyarakat (PAMSIMAS) merupakan salah satu program andalan pemerintah pusat yang menggunakan pendekatan berbasis masyarakat, dimana masyarakat sebagai pelaku utama dan sekaligus penanggungjawab pelaksanaan kegiatan. Program PAMSIMAS II dilaksanakan di Provinsi Aceh mulai tahun 2013 sampai dengan April 2016 di 3 kabupaten yaitu Kabupaten Aceh Besar, Kabupaten Pidie dan Kabupaten Bireuen, dengan total desa yang bergabung adalah 46 Desa.  Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di 15 desa di Kabupaten Aceh Besar sebagai objek penelitian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi keberhasilan Program PAMSIMAS II dan mengindentifikasi peran serta masyarakat dalam mengelola infrastruktur air bersih dan sanitasi yang telah dibangun.  Hal tersebut diukur melalui beberapa faktor, diantaranya: 1. kecukupan, kualitas dan keberlanjutan air dan, 2. Kinerja dari badan pengelola di masyarakat. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisa kuantitatif yang didukung dengan analisa kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data dengan melakukan observasi, kuesioner dan wawancara. Penelitian ini melakukan Analisa SWOT yang bertujuan untuk perumusan rencana strategis agar Program PAMSIMAS dapat berkesinambungan dalam pemenuhan akan air bersih. Hasil dari penelitian ini berupa identifikasi posisi Program PAMSIMAS II setelah dilakukan perhitungan EFAS dan IFAS yang dilakukan berdasarkan Kuesioner yang telah disebar kepada para pelaksana program PAMSIMAS II, dan kemudian dilanjutkan dengan rekomendasi prioritas strategi yang akan dilakukan untuk pengembangan Program PAMSIMAS II ke depan.

Purpose While there is an urgent need for clean water in Ghana and Nigeria, governments lack the financial means to do much to address this need. This does not mean that improving access to clean water is impossible. On the contrary, this paper argued that engaging citizens through co-production, as is already being done in developed countries in the fields of care-giving, waste management, healthcare and community policing, could provide a successful strategy. The purpose of this paper is to examine how public water facilities are being managed to improve and sustain access to clean water for domestic use in rural areas in Ghana and Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach A survey interview with households and in-depth interviews with water professionals were conducted in Ghana and Nigeria to help the authors understand the practicalities of the co-production of clean water and how this is improving and maintaining access to clean water sources. The paper draws on a philosophical framework of “deep” citizen engagement to describe the merits of co-production and how it works in practice in developing countries. Findings Based on the interviews with officials and surveys among the population of rural areas in the two countries studied, the authors found that the two countries vary significantly in their approach to water management decisions and the extent to which citizens are involved. Ghana’s approach seems much more successful than Nigeria when it comes to maintaining boreholes for water supply with the help of the population. In Nigeria, three-quarters of the public water facilities are non-functional, while in Ghana, community involvement in maintaining public water facilities has resulted in the sustained use of boreholes and eliminated the lack of access to clean water in many communities. Originality/value This paper contributes to the practical understanding of co-production in developing countries and the potential of such co-production in improving clean water access. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no previous scientific research has studied how co-production can improve and sustain access specifically to clean water sources in developing countries, and this paper aimed to fill this gap.

Both economic development level and environmental factors have significant impacts on life expectancy at birth (LE). This paper takes LE as the research object and selects nine economic and environmental indicators with various impacts on LE. Based on a dataset of economic and environmental indicators of 20 countries from 2004 to 2016, our research uses the Pearson Correlation Coefficient to evaluate the correlation coefficients between the indicators, and we use multiple regression models to measure the impact of each indicator on LE. Based on the results from models and calculations, this study conducts a comparative analysis of the influencing mechanisms of different indicators on LE in both developed and developing countries, with conclusions as follow: (1) GDP per capita and the percentage of forest area to land area have a positive impact on LE in developed countries; however, they have a negative impact on LE in developing countries. Total public expenditure on education as a percentage of GDP and fertilizer consumption have a negative impact on LE in developed countries; however, they have a positive impact on LE in developing countries. Gini coefficient and average annual exposure to PM2.5 have no significant effect on LE in developed countries; however, they have a negative impact on LE in developing countries. Current healthcare expenditures per capita have a negative impact on LE in developed countries, and there is no significant impact on LE in developing countries. (2) The urbanization rate has a significant positive impact on LE in both developed countries and developing countries. Carbon dioxide emissions have a negative impact on LE in both developed and developing countries. (3) In developed countries, GDP per capita has the greatest positive impact on LE, while fertilizer consumption has the greatest negative impact on LE. In developing countries, the urbanization rate has the greatest positive impact on LE, while the Gini coefficient has the greatest negative impact on LE. To improve and prolong LE, it is suggested that countries should prioritize increasing GDP per capita and urbanization level. At the same time, countries should also work on reducing the Gini coefficient and formulating appropriate healthcare and education policies. On the other hand, countries should balance between economic development and environmental protection, putting the emphasis more on environmental protection, reducing environmental pollution, and improving the environment’s ability of self-purification.

Despite the sharply increasing remittances in developing countries (especially in the AsiaPacific region), the relationship between remittances and domestic investment in recipient countries has not been fluently evidenced. This paper aims to fill the empirical gap in the Asia-Pacific region by investigating the impact of remittances on domestic investment with a sample including nineteen developing countries based on time series data from 1980 to 2015. However, our findings contradict some evidence from other regions. The results robustly confirm that remittances have a negative impact on domestic investment in these countries. Our results also indicate that the annual GDP per capita growth, official development assistance, domestic credit, gross saving, and inflation have a positive impact on domestic investment, however, we conclude that the impact of trade openness on domestic investment has a negative sign in the study period. The paper also provides some policy suggestions with regard to remittance flows in this region.

The current study empirically investigates the relationship among female labor force participation and governance in developing nations, using panel data of 62 developing countries, from year 1996 to 2016. The two variables taken as dependent variables are women labor force participation and governance. Results of GMM estimation showed that there is positive association between women labor force participation and governance. Education, GDP per capita, and globalization has positive, while income inequality has negative impact on governance. Similarly, education, fertility rate and rural population has negative, and globalization has positive impact on female labor force participation. So, it is concluded that the importance of governance and women labor force participation cannot be refused in terms of growth enhancement, which will consequently improve the social and economic conditions of developing countries.

This study examines the "Economic Impact of Craftsmen Statue on Community Base Tourism Development in Tohpati village Klungkung Bali". The core concept of economic problems is the imbalance between unlimited human needs and the means of satisfying the needs of a limited number. Economics should not be emphasized through the point, but it should be emphasized as an approach to explain human behavior (Gary Becker). The economic system is a means used to regulate all economic activities in society whether done by the government or private in order to achieve prosperity and prosperity together. The Economic system can be divided into three namely: a First capitalist economic system that is all economic activity submitted to the market. Second, the communist economic system is all things governed by the government. The third is a mixed economic system that is a combination of the two economic systems above (capitalist and communist). Indonesia should adopt a mixed economic system because firstly, Indonesia is an emerging country, where market failures often occur due to uneven information or accessibility to transportation and communication facilities. The second is that there are still many Indonesian people are below the poverty line. Thirdly most Indonesians have businesses that are still classified into small and medium enterprises that still can not compete perfectly with a bigger business. In addition, in a mixed economic system also required the role of government in overseeing the development of the economy that runs in the country of Indonesia, in order to create prosperity in public life. To implement a mixed economic system it must be applied in a real way in the community environment so that the economic system in a country becomes smooth, balanced, and make more prosperous for all parties involved. Community Base Tourism as a model of tourism development today because community involvement including maintenance is something that must be applied. Tohpati village community adherents of the traditional economy inevitably have to deal with the values ​​of novelty in the global economic order. Economic development that takes place in a country brings impact, both positive and negative. Positive impact: increased foreign exchange earnings, expanding or accelerating business opportunities, increasing national income, increasing tax revenues, expanding employment opportunities, promoting growth in development that has natural potential. Negative impact: land prices skyrocket, in tourism centers expensive food prices, biological resources become damaged, the occurrence of urbanization. The circulation of drugs, prostitution is difficult to monitor.
