This paper discusses Internet-related information behaviours of elementary school teachers in Taiwan, investigating their information needs, seeking behaviors, and use within an educational context. This study places an emphasis on investigating both work and non-work related use of Internet information by elementary school teachers. Research participants responded to a questionnaire on their internet search behaviours. In-depth interviews of 30 respondents were then performed. Results show that the boundary between work and non-work related use of the Internet is blurring. Participating elementary school teachers in Taiwan use the Internet for many tasks, and there are several technical and personal barriers to overcome before the technology can be fully utilized in the daily activities of educators.

This study examines the work-related information needed and sought by professional and managerial staff of a large university. Through personal contacts, the Internet, and departmental sources, professional staff are able to readily satisfy many of their daily and short-term work-related information needs with minimal use of the library. However, because their jobs are multifaceted and complex, these staff members frequently are engaged in longer-term activities (such as project development, report writing) requiring more intensive library use, which often is perceived to be frustrating and time-consuming. The implications of these findings for academic libraries are discussed.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to verify the prevalence of well-being and its association with sociodemographic features, health and work-related conditions, and vocal behavior in elementary school teachers in the city of Pelotas, RS. Methods: a cross-sectional observational study with 575 teachers from urban and rural areas. The participants answered a structured questionnaire that included items on sociodemographic, health and work-related conditions. The Faces Scale (Andrews) was used to evaluate their psychological well-being. The Vocal Behavior Profile verified occurrences of abuse and vocal misuse. Poisson regression was used for the multivariate analysis. Results: of the total sample, 79.5% of teachers experienced well-being. It was observed that vocal behavior profile was significantly associated with well-being, and the number of students in the classroom showed a trend towards significance. Conclusion: most teachers had a satisfactory well-being perception. Moreover, a lower well-being perception in the teaching population was mainly related to abusive vocal behavior and, less clearly, to the high number of students per classroom.

Many writers assume that consumers’ use of the Internet will follow the development of Web sites by Realtor.com and other Realtor‐sponsored sites on the Internet. This study examined this proposition by surveying consumers’ Internet use in their home purchases. A model of consumers’ Internet use in home purchases is developed and tested. Results showed that fewer than 40 percent of the home purchasers ever used the Internet for real estate related information during their home purchases. Awareness of Internet real estate information, access to Internet, age, perceived effectiveness of Internet in home purchase, and satisfaction with Realtor are found to be important factors in determining consumers’ use of Internet during home purchases.

17022 Background: Medical Oncology trainees develop their skills and knowledge through formal educational sessions, independent learning and clinical rotations. The internet serves as a source of up to date information and a potential educatinal resource. Despite the existence of many websites with oncology related information, there has not been a comprehensive assessment of how medical oncology trainees and program directors use the internet to meet educational objectivs. Method: In the first phase of developing a new educational website (OncologyEducation.com), we surveyed medical oncology trainees and program directors from training programs across Canada to assess how they accessed the internet to determine the elements they considered essential for a trainee-oriented site. Results: 12 out of 13 Canadian medical oncology training programs participated in our survey. A total of 12 program directors and 23 trainees responsed to our survey for a 74.5% response rate. 71.4% of respondents spend up to 10 hours per week on the internet for work related reasons. Pubmed and UptoDate were the most frequently visited sites. Respondents reported using the internet for email (97.1%), answering clinical questions (88.6%), accessing practice guidelines (80%), and literature updates (71.4%). Respondents expressed a need for an educational website stressing the following content: (1) Key updates by disease sites (2) Access to pivotal journal articles (3) Access to upcoming conferences/information (4) Links to other medical sites/medical oncology sites (5) Fellowship Opportunities. Conclusion: The internet is an important resource for supplementing the training of medical oncology trainees. The development of an educational website based on the needs assessed in this survey is warranted. Upon development of the website it will be evaluated for effectiveness and impact on oncology training and clinical practice. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

People use aromatherapy to relieve the symptoms of physical and psychological stress. However, previous studies have not precisely clarified a scientific basis for the beneficial effects of aromatherapy. Therefore, the overall purpose of this study was to elucidate the beneficial effect of aromatherapy in relieving work-related stress. Twenty-nine elementary school teachers from Taiwan participated in this study. The experimental procedures comprised 2 phases. First, we verified the effect of aromatherapy by conducting 2 blind tests. We used natural bergamot essential oil extracted from plants and synthesized a chemical essential oil as the placebo to do the aromatherapy. Second, we analyzed the performance of the aromatherapy treatment on the teachers who had various workloads. We measured the teachers’ heart rate variability to evaluate their autonomic nervous system activity. The results show that only the natural bergamot essential oil had an effect and that the aromatherapy treatment relieved work-related stress of teachers with various workloads. However, the aromatherapy treatment had a weak effect on young teachers who had a heavy workload. Moreover, the aromatherapy treatment exhibited no effect on teachers who belong to the abnormal body mass index subgroup having a heavy workload.

Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 19 of 2016 is one of the ways the Indonesian Government controls, protects, and disciplines the citizen in terms of using information and electronic transactions. But in its implementation, the lack of socialization to the community, especially to elementary school teachers, made elementary school teachers feel confused and scared; especially with the emergence of civil apparatus cases of teachers who were arrested for tripping cases of violations of the law. The purpose of this service is to provide socialization, understanding and at the same time share experiences related to the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No.19 of 2016 and teacher ethics. The methods that used in this service are presentation and discussion method. Assistance also carried out during the socialization. Based on the evaluation, all socialization participants felt they understood better and understood the importance of using the internet in a healthy manner so as not to violate the teacher's code of ethics and the oath of civil apparatus.
